    I'm old and don't work on cars much anymore, but I figured a brake light replacement would be easy. Nope. Without this video or the book I could not have done it. Had I not seen you do the string method, I never would have pulled that hard on the plastic light assembly for fear of breaking it. As it turned out, on a 2012 there is enough extra wire and it was not necessary to disconnect the connector in the trunk, but it's good to know where to find and disconnect it. Thanks, brother.

    They were charging me $46 each to replace both of my rear brake lights. I'm like hell no, I'm going to learn today. How hard could it be. And it wasn't. Save myself few box.

    String method........make SURE, you pull straight back.

  • @jfann77

    Be very careful using the string method. When I pulled mine I had to pull hard to get it out and it popped all at once and landed on my bumper and left a hearty scratch.

    Holden cruze is exactly the same. Except for the clip that holds the wires in. It has a push button on the side next to the wall of the car. Very easy once you have found it.

    On my 2013 Cruze, the assembly would not come out until I removed a nut from the top prong(two hold the assembly inside the cavity). In the video, when disconnecting the harness inside, the location of the nut on mine is seen, but appears to only be a rubber grommet on the featured cruze. If yours doesn't move with the string, check for the nut. Great video!

      I think mine is like yours in having real trouble getting it out and don't want to break anything. Where did you say that nut was again?

    Thank you very much for sharing this instructional video! My brake lens was severely cracked. I ordered the new assembly (which included new wires & new bulbs) for under $47.00 plus tax.
    I saved close to $150.00 in parts AND labor by installing the assembly (with new wiring & new bulbs - rain water had rusted the backup light socket) by myself in less then an hour (diy installation times may vary for others) with the guidance of your video. Thank you again! ☺

  • @allancampbell86

    Just wanted to add, I just did this on my 2014. The connector did not come out easy (white clip) you just have to be careful and use a small flathead. Also I had to use string and a putty knife to slowly pry the tail light out. It was really stuck in there. Don't give up!

    All this extra work is not needed. Pop the taillight assy and remove the bulb you need to replace. No need take panels off in the trunk and weaken those clips.

    You do not need to remove the trunk liner or connector to just change your light bulbs. I followed the video and my tail light fell and cracked!!! So I ended up having g to replace the tail light. What should have just cost me 14 buck ended up costing hundred's. You have enough slack to change you bulbs.

    Thanks for making this video, it took all of about 20 minutes to change out the outside passenger tail light assembly. The one I received from car parts already had the bulbs in place. Only difference is I found with my 2014 Cruze Diesel is the trunk liner fastener was a screw in anchor. Oh, and the string...worked like a charm. Thanks again!

    Is the connector in the trunk supposed to be difficult to disconnect? I did everything you did in the video and it is not giving, there's gotta be some sort of push tab I'm missing or something but I can't figure it out

    • @happywrenching
      @happywrenching  2 года назад

      It's been years since I've done this job so I don't quite remember but when it doubt, always push in the center of the connector and then try pulling it out. Assuming you moved the white plastic retainer out, at 1:17 I believe I am pushing the center of the connector as I pull it out.
