I've been saying this about Royce for 10 years. He has, hands down, the most unique flow and rhyming schemes in hip hop history. He rhymes bars in the middle of said bar more often than he ever does at the end. Might be a Detroit thing bc Obie raps very similarly.
Thanks for posting this. This song is an absolute masterpiece that deserves analysis and academic discourse. Your ability to transpose these lyrics with 100% accuracy is something all too rare. Thank you!
crzadagza Bruh! I thought I was the only one to catch the lyrical genius of this song! Like as a story, it’s a great song. I get it. But the rhyme pattern is something that is just beyond comprehension! It took me over 20 listens to finally understand it. Anyone only hearing a story about his family during the holidays is missing one of the greatest lyrical masterpieces of this generation.
@Trizae 26 I get ya, not comparing this ti Royce's earliest material, but he really invested his entire career/life in this album, and you can feel it through out the album.
@@darktwisted4300 Atleast we have an understanding. This made me so mad seeing Cardi got the album of the year Grammy when Royce wasn't even a nominee.
@Trizae 26 I've stopped following mainstream Hip Hop a while back, though they are a few mainstream artists from back in the like Royce who I still follow, the rest of the game is pretty much washed down, and them awards could mean jack to me Bruv, to this day I'm still in awe as to why would anyone regard Cardi a rapper, but that's my opinion. Guess indeed the real shit will always be Underground, and as long people like you and me know which is the actual music, THE REALEST MUSIC, they could share them grammies amongst themselves, as we(mostly Underground, prefer not to be part of that fairy-tale world they living in).
Twenty twenty one @first of July.. What a fuckin' song when u lived it. Amazing.. Hard as fuck when u lived it.. Deep as fuck when u lived it. Royce is 🔥 @my life as so many of us.
Eminem’s “Stepdad” had the potential to sound a lot more like this, but Em has such a terrible beat selection. Not to mention the garbage hook, when the song would of been better without it. Minor changes Em, and you could sound better then this, instead you sound worse, while one of your protégés out-classes you.
Royce was never a protégé to Em. He was his peer and his equal. They came up at the same time in the 90s in Detroit. Em didn't mentor him in the way, that some may say, he mentored 50. Even though Fif dropped Power of The Dollar and multiple mixtapes before signing to Shady.
@@mertdaalkabie7946 Facts. Ems last great, near perfect, body of work was The Eminem Show. The first MMLP was perfect and the SSLP was near perfect as well. Those are his three crowning achievements. Almost everything post Curtain Call was horrible.

"What the fuck you gonna do" - famous last words from many people

It is poetry
I couldn't get it off my mind too , it's so goddamn relatable
I love this song!!

This was the start of telling stories again in rap. Simply brilliant
You right him and Joyner
Lupe was doing this since 05... and is still doing the same, but okay.
I may have overstated but this one stood out to me. Listened to it several times one after the other when I first got the album.
