    The update has definitely been speeding up since early access, if I recall correctly. There have already been 10 updates since the launch of early access a little less than 2 years ago, many of which included not only new species or cosmetics updates, but also updates on gameplay and management aspects. However, I do understand your concern and really wish for this project to become more like a real playable game sooner, so that it would also appeal to a wider audience, which in turn brings profit and potentially leads to more content or faster development.

    I really don't agree with "the graphics need to keep up," many retro 16/32 bit pixel art indie games have proven that if the game is good the graphical look are not vey important.
    That being said, they do need to turn the current sandbox toolkit into an actual game.
    Also 100% agree with you on the LOD thing, having to basically get so close that the only thing on screen is the font for it to be readable is ridiculous.

    • @RudiRennkamel
      @RudiRennkamel  3 месяца назад +5

      I agree with the pixels art games. But IMO this game relys on good graphics as it's part of the experience. If it was a unique art style I would agree. But this aims for realism

      Graphics can be updated, remastered and changed, but if the gameplay is bad, or worse just boring that is the death of a game. So perhaps the should shift focus to getting getting some gameplay in the game pretty soon.@@RudiRennkamel

    For park builders we have nowadays with like over 70 animals.
    29 animals is a decent number for a park builder, so I’m satisfied with what We have so far with prehistoric kingdom.
    After that, they can very much improve with the mechanics and if they want to add more paleofauna, they can very much do so, I just hope it won’t be too much and stuffed like Planet zoo and JWE.
    I just need a good simple and creative Park builder with a decent number of creatures and creative items, like zoo tycoon 2

    I've only just started messing around with this game, and...Maybe I'm weird, but I don't really want a "game," at least not in the sense of managing guests and staff and all that. If I want that, I'll just play Planet Zoo and download extinct animals for it. With this one, I just want to create a world full of dinosaurs with completely natural boundaries between enclosures, and just watch them do their things. I want them to have babies that grow up and live and die, and I want the animals to be able to interact with the environment and each other, with proper herding and dominance fighting and stuff like that. I would love some actual nesting behavior. I'd like for the herbivores to be able to eat things in their environment rather than being fed, though I'm not sure I'd want predators to be doing their natural thing, as I'm a big softie and don't want to see my animals killing each other. :) Etc. So, ultimately, I guess I want more of an animal simulator and to focus on building naturalistic and self-sustaining environments for the animals than I want a traditional park builder/manager. LOL I know that's not what I'm going to get, though.
    My point is that, if the guests stay lifeless, I'll still be happy. If they were less detailed, I'd still be happy. I don't really care about guests and, frankly, I don't really want to build stuff for them, aside from the bare minimum, and I don't want to worry about whether or not they can see animals properly, etc. I want it to be all about the animals. I guess, ultimately, I don't want this to just be "Planet Zoo, only with extinct animals." I want it to be its own thing, and I'd prefer it to be more animal-focused than anything else. I know, of course, that the developers are going more for "Planet Zoo, only with extinct animals," so I'm not going to get what I want, but I guess my point is that, so long as they keep developing the animals and their behaviors and so long as they keep them scientifically accurate (as opposed to the heavily fictionalized dinosaurs of the Jurassic Park franchise), I'll be happy, because the animals are why I bought the game.

Basically, I was answering Rudi's concerns about there not being a game yet with a different viewpoint.

    • @ayrton7488
      @ayrton7488 2 дня назад

      Your opinion, even if different from others, is respectable. The problem is that at the moment the game is still in its infancy, even when it comes to animal behavior. So far I haven't seen any animation that shows dinosaurs interacting with each other, as happens for example in JWE2, or in Planet Zoo. Furthermore, the animations are still rather poorly done, in the sense that the movement of the dinosaurs is not natural and they often move jerkily or always repeat the same actions. The graphics, however, are a completely different matter and are at very high levels.

  • @joschuaknuppe5849
    @joschuaknuppe5849 3 месяца назад +17

    I think all these concerns are unfounded at this point since the PK devs have said multiple times that certain aspects, like visitors models, are more like stand-ins for the moment and I can see why they would first put in all the things that they did because people want the dinosaurs, so if they would put in other mechanics first, people would constantly scream for more animals (I see that all the time in the comment sections of their social media posts. I think it's better that they take their time with the management and Ai overhauls.
    The team is extremely small so I rather wait a few years more than have something half cooked rushed out. The game is out, it's getting regular updates, there are frequent hot fixes and they listen to concerns from the community. And I might be biased here because I know some of the devs and follow the project very closely but besides some bugs I see no issue with the pace of development in the moment.

    • @joschuaknuppe5849
      @joschuaknuppe5849 3 месяца назад +4

      I might also be biased because I work in paleoart and in paleo we are used to wait sometimes decades for certain publications to come out, besides the point but it trains your patience. This is nothing compared to me waiting 6 years for a paper that I made an illustration for to be published so I can finally post the image online.

    • @RudiRennkamel
      @RudiRennkamel  3 месяца назад +4

      My concern, as I said multiple times, is not the quality or the updates atm. It's the other end of the gaming industry atm. Many A+ games are rushed. But many indie titles never get released. I love this project so much and I want it to succeed. I just see the problem it all takes so long because of the small team.
      Plus, and that's nothing against their talent, especially management and people are so so so hard to nail. So many big studies failed with it.
      And yes I agree, people always want what they don't have. But I try to see it as a whole. And that's where my issue lies.

    The people bother me to the point I don't want to open the park I'm building on. I know that will likely be fixed later, especially now that they're giving staff and management focus. Still, I'm a bit disappointed. Not lucky with dino park games since I was dejected by JWE which I stupidly pre-ordered.

    Personally, I think the foundation of PK is stronger than Planet Zoo or other similar types of games. Those other games are certainly impressive, but when you start to pry away the layers of them the mechanical layers to them have their limits. PK still has a lot of those mechanics that makes those other games great, but it fills in gaps and brings in totally new features that often leave me wondering "why isn't this the standard?" And then you remember just how indie this game is...No, I was an original Kickstarter backer way back when and I have only been thoroughly impressed since.

    I didn't realize how much I depended on guest reactions like in Planet Zoo for creative satisfaction until I started building in PK. The creepy PK robots should be removed until they actually start doing something other than randomly walking around. It is a very affordable game however so I don't feel bad if I don't use it as much as PZ and I hope with time it will be as entertaining to play.

      @@monkeydsasco9200 The precursor of PK+Mesozoica was Jurassic Genetics, an attempt to make an unlicenced sequel to Jurassic Park Operation Genesis. Aside from the obvious legal issues, one of the project leads became notorious for stealing art assets. This led to a mass-walkout of almost the entire devteam in early 2014 who set up PK as a successor project with no connection to the Jurassic franchise. One of those early devs (Max) served as head of public relations and ran PK's social media. Towards the end of 2014, he left PK under highly acrimonious circumstances and founded his own dinosaur-zoo project (Mesozoica) in direct competition with his former colleagues.

    If I wanted a great dinosaur park management game, I would play the Jurassic World Evolution game.
    To me, the appeal of PK was paleo accuracy and the modular building system. So maybe I’m the minority, but I would actually just be happy to have more species, more props and building pieces, and transportation rides to flesh out creative opportunities. And more robust guest and animal behaviors would also help the game feel more complete.
    So honestly, management tools and scenarios are pretty low on my wish list, since there already is a dino park building game to scratch that itch. Anyone else feel that way?

  • @kellywood8586
    @kellywood8586 3 месяца назад +1

    I have this game, I've had it so long I can't even remember when I downloaded it from Steam. I got it because I thought 'This looks like a cross between Jurassic World Evolution and Planet Zoo... Awesome!' However, I haven't played it anywhere near as much as those other games because I love playing the scenarios most and that's what I think is lacking for me in Prehistoric Kingdom at the moment.
    I have played Planet zoo for 1681.1 hours and that's because I keep going back to play the career mode and timed scenarios. I do play in Sandbox sometimes, but I lose interest because I like having goals to keep me motivated.
    Every time I see a Prehistoric Kingdom update announcement, I hope to see the introduction of a career mode or even a more in depth tutorial. Until they introduce one of those, I probably won't go back to the game.

    game is a demanding thing and making it takes a lot of time and there are many aspects in it, as you say yourself, the game is still being developed and many of the core systems have not been incorporated at all, now we are already talking about whether the game is enough
    if we are not willing to throw our eggs in one basket as a community and support the project there will be more stories like the mesozoica game and all dino dino content we will get in for this style of game the end will be meduim developed park builder with jurassic park theme or a DLC for eg planet zoo.

    I've been wondering for awhile how they even still have the funds to keep this game running. Ik its a small dev team and they probably aren't getting paid a ton, but the launch sales for this game aren't the greatest and all the dlc content is free. This would explain the slow content releases, but eventually with how base game sales are performing, I don't know if they're going to be able to keep this game alive for much longer. The game desperately needs new content, and with the pace they are going they'll be lucky to keep players around or even bring in new players for much longer. We are in a different Era of gaming where newcomers expect quicker and more mainstream content. It doesn't have to be a lot but something to chew on for a few months is what gaming companies need at the very least. And with PK not even charging for content makes me feel like the team might be self funding a lot and working a lot of overtime to get some of this out.

      I could be way off, but I wonder if they shifted development focus away from all these new management tools and more time to releasing new species, building themes, biomes, and guest/animal behavior to allow for greater creativity and diversity. If, only if, they find a way to make realistic people with emotions, diversity and loads of animations - hey I'm sold.

      They don't have to be super realistic either, no one is asking for that. But something that at least does not look like a coconut with painted eyes and a mouth, reminds me of Russian cartoons from the 60s.
      There are a million games and cartoon movies outhere with cool looking artistic renderings of people that do not have to be exactly life like.
      Also one of the worse things that Frontier did is having so many of them, moving all at once in large groups, it looks tacky and conjested. There is no need to have so many visitors, individual movements with less visitors would look way cooler.@@RudiRennkamel
