This was at a time during college football when you looked at the schedule looking to see when the Noles and the Canes were going to play because you knew that no matter what this game was going to be an awesome smash mouth game and both teams were going to play their guts out and leave everything on the field!!!!!!!
Exactly college football sucks now I'm a Nebraska fan and I live in Ohio and I have to hear these stupid ass Ohio State fans talk about Ohio State like they're a better program than Nebraska I'm like Nebraska was the King Kong of college football at one point Ohio state has never been that all states one here and there but they've never been the program like Nebraska was at different points in college football history where they were the best program in all of college football Ohio state is a pretty good program that wins because they plan a bad conference f*** Ohio State
The best memories of when I was a middle school kid watching Satruday morning football with Dad. Probably eating breakfast and recovering that morning after a Friday night Middle School game with a local rival.
Man so freaking intense! What hitting with bad intentions. They hated each other like no,other. This is when this was hands down the #1 rivalry because the winner won/played for the championship in 83, 85,86, 87, 91,92,93,94,96,98,99,00,01, and 02! 14 times in 20 seasons one of these two either won, or atleast played for the national championship! 70% ! Never again will a rivalry be that important to the big picture over 2 decades. And FSU Florida in the 90s was nearly equally as important. Bowden is the only coach spurrier had a losing record to at Florida
Hey bro how are those two teams doing today!! Not good at all!! In fact these two teams are no longer relevant anymore!!! Lol 😂 !! Plus bro get your college football facts together first and then make sure and get it right because your facts are inaccurate!! Sorry bro go back to school
This game is by far, was one of the best games of that decade. I'm a canes fan and, I was so glad when my team won the game. And, among all of the college rivalries, Miami and FSU rivalry is on the top because on how both teams play down to wire. Whenever Miami and FSU get together, all fans are in for a phenomenal game
Gosh this one hurt! I remember thinking that this would be the year Coach Bowden would win it all. What baffled me then, and even today, is that FSU's offense went in the tank in the last three games of the season - 3 TDs in the final three games vs. Miami, Florida, and Texas A&M. They looked unstoppable vs Michigan earlier in the season.
Well, we won it in 93. Miami has and always will be a rivalry like no other with FSU. Noles fan here, I've been through all the missed field goals, etc. Both teams had extraordinary talent and coaching.
It gets forgotten, but that field goal by Huerta at 34:00 was massive. Miami had 3 negative plays in a row after reaching the 13, it was 4th and 25, under 10 minutes left, crowd was in a frenzy. Had Huerta missed that it would have been an avalanche of momentum against the Hurricanes. A 45-yarder back then was probably the equivalent of a 53-yarder today - most college kickers couldn't make that, especially off a grass field. One of the biggest kicks in Miami football history.
Miami's kickers from this era don't get enough credit. It was a field goal that won the Florida State game in 1983 to give the Hurricanes their first chance at a national title. Then it was two very difficult kicks that ended up beating Oklahoma in the 1988 Orange Bowl. And Huerta did his job in this game, essentially clinching another title for Miami. Without those kickers the Hurricanes might have lost a bunch of crucial games. Instead they won four national championships in nine seasons.
I like how the person that post this video of TV distortion like back in the days where you had to hit it on the side just to get a clear screen. that was slick lol
I remember this game and being so happy at the end and I even recall Keith Jackson saying "Miami will be penalized for it , but so what!" Evenly matched teams, what a battle.
It took me 30 years to muster up the courage to re-watch this game. The loss hurt that much. Give Miami credit, they were fast at almost every position on defense, much faster than any other team we played that year. That said, we were still the better team with a slight edge in overall talent. Played way too tight and had too many mistakes, both in terms of execution and coaching. It should've never come down to a FG.
You said it! He was the one who started to recruit the inner city and smaller towns around the palm beaches on down to key west. One reason is that Miami could not effectively recruit past their low paid assistant coaches could drive!
If Dennis Erickson would've compromised and started using the shotgun on first down he would've won at least one more NC.....before the wheels came off. lol. Love these games. Probably the most intense era of CFB.
What I can't understand is why did Florida State try for the winning field goal on 3rd down? They could have ran another play to get closer field goal range.
Prior to the playoff system, it seemed as if the #1 ranked team was always pressured with the burden to win these games - and from some of these matchups on TV once I became a fan of college football, the #1 team seemed to lose more than 50% of the time. It was often a guaranteed loss when a #1 ranked team faced UM when they came into the game ranked #2. But UM experienced the same consequences at least 3 times when they were ranked #1 and their opponents were ranked #2. The #2 team is often more relaxed in these high-stake games.
What's laughable is that Weldon finished second in the Heisman voting. Desmond Howard shouldn't have won it either. Steve Emtman was CLEARLY the most dominant player in 1991 college football.
I saw a guy fighting hard for every yard and doing an incredible job holding onto the ball while being sacked 6x. Sometimes it's the throws you don't try that wins you games. Gino a gamer against a ferocious D. Who won sour puss?
@@cwhalesss1071 Clearly the better team? Lol. We had 4 Turnovers & a missed FG yet still beat u on your own field. We also went undefeated & won the National Championship. What we did was expose you.
A great game, but Bowden deserved to lose. He had the #1 ranked team and he settled for field goals. That can't happen when you are supposed to be the best team in the country.

What? It was recorded on VHS then converted to mp4 probably. Any hiccups on the TV would have been recorded on the VHS.
I was at this game. Devastating loss for FSU fans
Dab Gum Bobby.. Rest in Peace Coach. Gooooo Canes 🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈😎
A losing record to every cane coach with a NC, count em 4. Over...rated!

FSU would have 2 more titles if it wasn’t for those missed kicks
Hey, They missed the kicks. It aint nobody's fault, but their own, that their kickers had a "choking" issue, is it...???!!??? 😂😂😂

"The clock ticks into history."
Only Keith Jackson can etch such a phrase into the Pantheon of this rivalry.

Let me guess you guys were better than Miami in 92 as well.🤣🤣
Carry on....
It's all about the U! Howard Schnellenberger is responsible for inner city youth to get an opportunity to play college football! What a legacy!!!

At like 25:20ish, miami #8 flies over the pile and smashes into his teammate #31 lol that pile diving shit was wild back in day
Even though FSU list this game , I knew the NOLES were headed in the right direction
FSU and MIAMI invented SEC football

Not Michigan right 😂😂. But the canes.
What I can't understand is why did Florida State try for the winning field goal on 3rd down? They could have ran another play to get closer field goal range.
Bobby Bowden @ 41:46 the agony.....
Ken Dorsey is the most accurate QB in Miami history
Bernie Kosar would have something to say about that title.
He actually only completed 57% off his passes at Miami. That’s a shocking number actually
How in the world was that pass interference at the end? Made for a more gut wrenching loss I suppose.

40:53 Weldon holds the ball too long otherwise it's a TD.
He still had tight coverage on him hard to say
As a Miami fan, FSU should have won this game. It pains me to say that.
I can respect your honesty.
FSU: on 3 first & goals they kicked FGs. Don't blame it on the kicker.
Had he missed one of the earlier ones, FSU still had to time to change their strategy. Losing on the last play was on him.
At 15:31 can anyone please explain to me how you don't complete the pass to a reciever who is that wide open!!!!!!
What's laughable is that Weldon finished second in the Heisman voting. Desmond Howard shouldn't have won it either. Steve Emtman was CLEARLY the most dominant player in 1991 college football.
Look at Doak Campbell stadium back then it was nothing. Now Miami doesn't even have the Orange Bowl anymore.
Ball hits the umpire🤣
Toretta did absolutely nothing in that game.

FSU freaking kicking all those short FG instead of taking chances!

Most of that season and maybe a few more they would go for 2 rather that risking a field goal.
