Just a back drop to this game-Jimmy Johnson was an Arkansas assistant before he became a big name and he says in his Bio that he was promised the Arkansas HC job by the Athletic Director. Well Arkansas reneged on the promise and gave it to someone else. Jimmy left for Oklahoma State and later Miami. He states that this win was especially sweet.

Jimmy Johnson Miami coach and Kenny Hatfield Ark. coach were on the same 1964
Ark. team with Jerry Jones. Barry Switzer was an assistant coach on same team.

Jimmy was passed over for the Arkansas job in 84’ for Hatfield. As if that wasn’t bad enough, they humiliated him by bringing him in for an interview after they offered the job to Hatfield. That’s why the players carried him off. This was a revenge game for him. Not against Hatfield. But against Broyles.

I was looking forward to Steve Atwater punishing Miami. But, 10 minutes into the game he had given up multiple big plays to Michael Irvin and missed a tackle on Melvin Bratton long touchdown run. Maybe that’s why he fell late in the first round to the Broncos.

During the game Jimmy Johnson kept telling his defense if Arkansas scores 1pt. he was gonna make the team run wind-sprints the entirety of their next parctice. Arkansas scored that touchdown near the end of the game and according to Micheal Irving Monday's practice nothing but wind-sprints, offense, defense, kickers too.

Pretty certain if you somehow could put truth serum into Jimmy Johnson, he would let you know that he would have kept piling it on to the Hogs here, since Frank Broyles did not hire him out of OSU when the Arkansas job became available a few years before this. Being a Hog alum, guaranteed Johnson did not forget the snub.....
Plus: very, very difficult to run this ‘Flex-bone’ or even the old ‘Wishbone’ against a defense that is just as fast!

These teams that were heavy run reliant were no match for Miami's defense. Most of these teams could not pass to save their lives if they got behind.. Arkansas does have some great fans. I would have headed out for the exits when it 38 to 0 before halftime.

@@fkcavs The Canes were great football players, and fun to watch now, but also obnoxious trash. That whole "swagger" crap. I used to get sick listening to their excuses for losses. 1987 Fiesta Bowl they blamed on turnovers, as if they were completely random, and not their own fault. 1988 Notre Dame they obviously blamed on the refs. Even Saban's Alabama monster is less tiresome than the U was to anyone who wasn't a weird jobber from south Florida.

Good lord you sound like the Canes triggered you in every way.......but did you make a pro wrestling reference in " anyone who wasn't a weird jobber from South Florida " whatever that's supposed to mean. And sorry to break this to you but Miami had 5 turnovers in the Fiesta Bowl vs Pedo State which is absolutely the reason they lost the game considering they dominated every statistical category yet only lost by 4 points. And the 1988 Notre Dame game was straight 💩, Cleveland Gary never fumbled that ball. And Saban's is the most boring devoid of personality dynasty in the history of major sports.
