Happy New Year Paul, best wishes for 2025, hope your health continues to thrive and you are back flying again soon. Stick with the R1250GS as I think you will be underwhelmed by the stock 1300GS and you might have a sharp intake of breath at the cost to change. After all you have done to your GS it will be criminal to let that bike go. Cheers 🙏
There was a $9,000 difference in price between a 1250GSA and a 1300GSA. I could buy another very nice brand new bike for $9k to bounce around in the dirt. So, I bought the last edition of the 1250GSA. No brainer.
I have the same R1250GS Triple Black and agree the R1300GS is a great machine but I can’t justify the $10K US it would take to upgrade. Not to mention to add all the accessories I have on the 1250 would increase the investment further to upgrade.
Do whatever makes you happy… as long as it doesn’t have a detrimental effect on you or your loved ones, who cares what anyone else thinks? It’s really not that difficult… 🤗👍🏻
Great videos just bought my 2022 GS 1250 loving the tip videos learnt a lot already. Can’t wait for the two stroke test videos this is my era too. Rode Moto x back in the day. I now for sure I couldn’t even entertain riding one of them because of two knee replacements but look forward to you swinging the leg over 😂. Keep up the great videos happy new year 🎉
Happy new year Paul.thanks for all your effort putting this content together.Stick with the 1250!mines exactly the same as yours and its a classic.I don't think the money required to change is worth it.
Hi Paul , Happy new year , I have exactly the same bike same colour etc took the 1300 out as one would expect it’s a better bike but in my view not that much better . Cost to change for me is about 12k mines a 21 plate Gs in absolutely mint condition I like you have spent a least a couple of Grand personalising my bike, the 1300 in my view is definitely not 12k better bike , I’ll certainly be sticking to my 1250 for the foreseeable future it’s got me all over Europe with great memories to boot , best wishes for 2025 👍
Hi Kenny . Thanks for comments . Interesting to read what other riders have said . Looks to be 50/50 ref swapping. Just been to my local bmw dealer who are now stocking Rukka suits 🙈
I would wait for some major upgrades to the 1300 if I were you or even the 1350. Your bike is top. The difference will only be in your wallet really and in your mind.
Happy New year, if i were you i would keep your lovely 1250. I was excited when the 1300 came out only to be very disappointed in the way it looked 😢 very much like a honda scooter. In my opinion it's lost the distictive gs look. I'm shore it's great to ride etc.
happy new year Paul, good to see you back from holiday. Dont be hasty on deciding not to do any more nav unit reviews, carpuride have brought out the w702bs which works in unison with the wonder wheel, and apparently chigee are going to release a 6" with gps. I would have been very interested on your take on those ones. Keep up the great work.
Thanks, I was kind of referring to new companies reaching out to me, with similar units, as I don't want to be an advertising mule for all things nav. Carpuride, Innovv and Chigee are very good units and I am excited to continue with them as and when they offer me units for review. The Chigee 6" does look very good, but everything has a price point and folks have a price point to, so the Aoocci unit I have to review, sits at the low budget end, but from having a Quick Look at it seems really good. So doing this review , I think I will have the whole price spectrum for us riders.
Happy New Year Paul. Oooh, you sounded like a sarky plod in the tunnel there 😛. My 1250GSA went passed the 3yr warranty last April. I decided not to purchase another year warranty as, if you start, you shouldn't stop or all previous years spent would be wasted. Well that was my thoughts anyway. If you fancy the upgrade go for it. You know very well that we only live once. I'm still undecided what to go for next. Waiting for a few colour changes with maybe the odd little upgrade on the GS1300 range to see if that might tempt me. Oh and there is that small matter of selling it to the wife.....
Hahahahaha oh yes the wife bit. She did watch the video and gave me that "stare"as only a wife can give. The new GSA is a bit ummmm Marmite. I'll have to see what Darren says the extra warranty will cost from BMW even if it's just for another year. Ride safe and all the best for 2025.
Awesome video! I hope you are feeling 100%? I have a GS almost exactly like yours. I love it. I did have a very brief thought about trading for the new GS. Then I saw the severe drop in prices on used R1250 GS's at my dealership. The value of mine has significantly dropped. At least here in the States. The prices have stabilized recently.I would get torched on a trade. So, I am keeping mine. Best!
I guess I ned to speak to my local dealer for a price to change!!!!! That possibly may make my mind up. However the 1250 is such a great machine does absolutely everything i need it to do, which makes any change decision a tough one. I only wish they did an M version....possibly that'll be in 2026? Ride safe.
I have had a 1250GS for 4 years and a 1200 before that. I mainly do long distance tarmac touring. This year I rode a rental 1300GS on tour in Bavaria for 7 days. I really noticed the more compact size difference - I’m 6ft tall, and also the 1300 had a super rough gearbox on 1-2-3 changes below about 5000rpm no matter what I did. Way worse than the 1250. Made it very difficult two up riding through towns two up no matter what I did with the clutch or quick shifter. The 1300 I rode had about 15000kms on it. I came home thinking no rush to change from the 1250 to the 1300. Probably will eventually but happier with the comfort of the 1250 for now. Incidentally I sold my 1200 Speed Twin for a Yamaha MT-07 a year ago. Loved the Triumph but the MT-07 is a lighter, better around town bike and also lots of fun/character.
I'd stick if I were you, I've got the same bike & year (in ralley colours in blingy gold wheels!) etc. As you say put a lot of money into it with accessories & is the new 1300 GS really worth 5-6K more! + more insurance costs I seriously doubt it. What you have here is one of the last generation GS 1250 2013 to 2023 this bike was at its peak for all of these years. Stay with your bike IMO Happy New Year!!
I rode the 1250GS lots but ended up with the R1300 and ride its such a good all-rounder. Now I’ll be selling my second bike, the Thruxton R as it doesn’t get ridden.
Keep the 1250 GS !!! I do have a 1250 GSA and tested the 1300, not convinced at all + the cost of upgrade :-( . I love my GSA customized for my mind and soul... cheers from Belgium
About 14 months ago, I first watched a video of the then, new GS 1300. Two weeks later, I purchased a 2023 R 1250 GS, with 7 year factory warranty (no cost). Could not possibly be happier. The 1300 was hideous to me. The 1300 GSA is beyond hideous to me. Just my humble opinion folks. The 1300’s are by far better bikes, but not for me. “well done mate, as he’s crossed the double lines” 👊🤣
In the six past years I’ve owned some BMW bikes. And in their own way they were all really good machines. In my opinion the 1300 GS/ GSA are not a minor upgrade from the 1250’s. At the present I’m with the bmw GS 1300 which is an excellent bike, but during 2025 I’ll try to swap it for the bigger sister because I’m not using the actual bike off road and I intend to travel more next year. As a all around bike the 1300 GS has been an excellent asset , very agile, super torquy engine, very safe to ride in all conditions. BMW have been experimenting some trouble in supplying the luggage and engine protection bars for the 1300 GS and we all have to think and evaluate that before jumping to a trade. The BMW GS still is an outstanding piece of machinery, though. We have to take in consideration a lot of aspects before making the decision forward the new bike proposal from BMW Motorrad Manufacturer.
I have the 1300 I went from a 1250 rt but I had numerous gs’s the 1300 gs is just so awesome, so much more athletic still has shaft , more torque , a quick tune and headers and she’s a weapon , I opted for the forged wheels , I don’t regret it one bit, enjoy your dog walk
Passed my bike test on a Black RD250Lc then went out and bought a Blue/White RD350LC both fantastic bikes , But the suzuki Rgv 250 Grand Prix Spirit i owned was like a moto GP bike with lights unfortunately i got done doing 106mph in a 60 limit 🙈 i had the choice to buy a bmw Gs 1300 but went for the last of the Gs r1250 and like you personalised after watching many of your videos , just love it , i would stick 👍
The RGV was supposed to be good for 110-115mph in its day, I didn't realise that it was a quick machine . White and Blue RD250LC was my dream bike back in the day! Ended up with an old RD200 with expansion chambers, dropped handlebars and then proceeded to blow the engine up within a few months!
I love the look of the ne GS, but id steer clear of it for at least 12 months. I have the bike as you and I love mine. I'll wait about 12-18 months at least til I even think about upgrading
Happy new year firstly - sorry for the loss of your dog. I too just reached 3 years and 10,000 miles (1250 GS Triple Black - a few personal add-ons - no extended warranty) I got itchy feet - fancied a change. So I made a list of everything I like - everything I need - how a bike makes me feel.....and it said buy a 1250GS! (I'm not keen on the looks of the 1300 and I would never notice the difference in power or torque) - I think the 1250 is like a two wheeled G-Wagon! So sticking I am. Let's see how many miles I clock up this year! BTW. Are you still flying - able to do so after your ops?
Quite interesting to read the comments on the swap thing. Flying question....just got one more physical test to do for the Civil Aviation Authority in the UK , but that needs to be done 6 months after the stent operation, so end of this month. Then should be return to work package, simulator rides etc. The aviation sector has sadly been in the news recently. RIP.😢
Financially keeping the 1250 is the right choice as the difference to the 1300 isn't that much, but the $ difference is large. However if you are looking for more channel content then the 1300 will give you plenty of that, so that might be the best way to go.
I still don’t know all the details but I took the decision of changing my 2024 GSA 1250, now with almost 11000km, to the new GSA 1300 Waiting for production date info, but I’m really excited to receive it, potentially in the end of this month What a great way to start the year for sure! Wish you all a great 2025!
I have an identical R1250GS to yours - 71 plate, it is immaculate and would cost around £14,000 at a BMW dealer. I guess p/x value would be £12,000? Cost to change to a new R1300GS probably £10,000. No way would I - yes it’s better but not £10,000 better. That’s before we get into the new hex Ezcan I would need plus pannier rails, etc etc. I love my 1250 it’s a keeper!
I have exactly the same dilemma. I have a 1250GS and a Speed Twin. The ST does not get used much, and I use the GS for everything. I have had the same thought. Chop both for a 1300... My conclusion is to stick with what I have - at least for another year. The cost to change is a factor, but also the fact I've personalised the GS to get exactly the bike I want. But, as you probably know, the thrill is in the hunt!
Well, here in the states is still 2024! Lol. I traded my 1259 fir a 1300, and I wasn't convinced at first, but if you wanted more omphhh, the 1300 is certainly more entertaining and sporty than the 1250. At first, the 1250 was way more comfortable, but after raising the 1300 bars and fixing the forward slope of the seat, it is perfect now. It feels more sporty and compact, and suspension is better . Radar cruise is awesome.
Don’t swap in the 2 first years after a “new model’! There just are gearbox problems and some more issues with 1300. I bought again an old (NOS) the last 2024model Harley Davidson Road Glide Special 114! Try that one,….. and your last missing “feelings’ are for filled….🤘🏽. That’s Majestic, with lots off emotion, rejoice, bullit proof and 4 years warranty (with can extract after till 80.000km
You look good for nearly 60. I’m 47 and wonder how my health will be at 60. Plan to retire from the Police at 60 and hope to be healthy as you to continue enjoying riding.
Police ? Did that for 14 years, left in '98. 4 as a Police motorcyclist and 5 as a surveillance motorcyclist riding a TDR250, plus others...many many years ago 😂 Tough job at times, especially when dealing with death and bodies. respect.👍
The R1300GS is certainly an impressive motorcycle with a long list of sophisticated rider assist features. The actual appearance of the bike is very much a subjective matter, and opinions will vary markedly. Personally I like the looks of the new headlight which performs as well as any of the bikes I have previously owned. The only noticeable disappointment for me is the seat which is definitely not as comfortable as the 1250GS. Any recommendations out there for an aftermarket seat that will allow more time in the saddle?
I am trying to part exchange my 2024 Kawasaki ZH2 with a Triumph dealership here in France. But they offered me 7000 euro (5805.77 pounds) below the purchased price! I hope you have a better result than I am having. I guess it’s the price you pay for convenience.
I would sell the Triumph and keep the 1250 until the next revision of the 1300 comes out in a year or two, probably with an updated screen and maybe updated switch gear, and other fixes to things that early adopters complained about.
G Day from down under mrGSD321 could I please ask a question on your first 2025 video talking about bike swapping etc I noticed your dark screen on the mighty GS as I’m looking at options down under you couldn’t help me out and let me know the make of the screen and of course you opinion is vitally important to me also maybe the size you choose etc as I’m looking to buy one for my GS1250 and that’s possibly one of the best ones I’ve seen if you could let me know mate I’d be forever Grateful indeed Kind regards Mark
Hi Mark. Yes for sure I can help. The new screen is from BMW and is simply their OEM standard screen but tinted, I will be swapping between that and the smaller rallye one that you would have seen on other videos. I basically got if for looks and when I go touring. Just have to swap the mounting bits between the screens when change from big to smaller one, only a 15 minute job.
@@gsd32i G,Day Mr GSD32i I would like to say a big thank you for your time on this matter my friend you helped me out know end you did, sorry for the late response mate forgive me and again thank you for all your help Cheers mate 🍻
Just don't fancy my iPhone being on display to the world. The connected ride navigator is about £500 ish......and is obviously BMW specific. Choices choices 😁
@gsd32i Never used an IPhone I use an older Android and quad lock on some trips on the speed 400 but always take it of the bike when I've stoped off somewhere
Lone rider lights seem very good with the new smart technology they have, if you can get hold of them , as they have been flying off the shelves! My Denali D3's are amazing on the GS
Common sense is keep the 1250 but the fact you ask the question suggests that likely won’t happen as to grow your channel a new bike to accessorise pulls in views. Personally I’d keep the 1250 & take a couple of decent tours, probably cost less than your depreciation money but definitely less than the extra funding on a 1300 with any spec. Thinking about it maybe consider keeping the GS and buying the Honda Hornet 1000 SP as an option to trick out for channel growth it’s gonna have big numbers this year.
It's a tough one as so many new 1300 owners say how much better it is than the old 1250......but I find the old 1250 so so good! 🙈 The sp sounds very interesting . Ride safe.👍
@ I’ll be keeping my TB 1250 it does everything asked it would have to be a really, really, really good deal on the 1300 in GSA spec’d up for me to move the tank on the new std 1300 lacks the 1200/1250 styling it’s got too much curve not enough angles. So having tried to justify a swap the end question is have you picked your new plate yet & send me all those free 1250 accessories 😂
I certainly wouldn't get the new 1300 BMW, your GS is more than good enough, capable and the full package you've invested in, big horse power is more or less pointless these days you just can't use it anymore. The best thing I've done is buy bikes with less HP and I'm now enjoying biking more than ever.
@@gsd32i I understand and agree with her. If you want all the electronic bells and whistles you pay for them and then they fail!!! The 1250 is the best they have produced. I bought the 2024 1250GSA in preference to the 1300. Best bike I have ever owned
@ I was 60 last year, I currently have a V Strom 800DE and a KTM390 Adventure, I told myself I will have a GS before I hand in my biking resignation.. but not the 1300! Your current GS is all the bike you need! 😉
Hi Richard . Valid point ! But as riders when we have an itch that possibly needs scratching , objectivity takes a back seat ….. had that itch all my life. Hence bike number 15 😂🙈Ride safe
I would keep your 1250GS and not upgrade, the only thing your going to gain is a smaller bank balance for a machine that's not another £12,000 better than you already have! And its a lot uglier in my opinion
@gsd32i I have a V2S Multi I have resisted trying V4 I know a guy with one his advice was don't go ride one if you're not prepared to buy one because you ride it you will want one

Keep the 1250, sell the Triumph and use the money to go on a no expense spared tour on the GS to which ever part of the world that takes your fancy.
9:30pm New Years Eve here in Arkansas, Happy New Year thanks for the vids.
youve already made your mind up ... see you at mansells

Panniers 😂

Had the corrosion on my r1250gs and exhaust valve problem,
Swapped to a triple black r1300gs and is top drawer
Do it 👍
I have the 1300 I went from a 1250 rt but I had numerous gs’s the 1300 gs is just so awesome, so much more athletic still has shaft , more torque , a quick tune and headers and she’s a weapon , I opted for the forged wheels , I don’t regret it one bit, enjoy your dog walk
Thanks , dog walk was great👍
Get the 1300GSA! Got mine two weeks ago and it‘s fantastic!!!
Enjoy 👍
Passed my bike test on a Black RD250Lc then went out and bought a Blue/White RD350LC both fantastic bikes , But the suzuki Rgv 250 Grand Prix Spirit i owned was like a moto GP bike with lights unfortunately i got done doing 106mph in a 60 limit 🙈
i had the choice to buy a bmw Gs 1300 but went for the last of the Gs r1250 and like you personalised after watching many of your videos , just love it , i would stick 👍
Twist ! You know it makes sense…..
RIP.😢
@@gsd32i Good luck with it all - yes - some sad events as you say.
Financially keeping the 1250 is the right choice as the difference to the 1300 isn't that much, but the $ difference is large. However if you are looking for more channel content then the 1300 will give you plenty of that, so that might be the best way to go.
Happy new year!. Trade if it makes you happy, otherwise it's a waste of money.
Keep the 1250!!!🤟🤟
I still don’t know all the details but I took the decision of changing my 2024 GSA 1250, now with almost 11000km, to the new GSA 1300
Waiting for production date info, but I’m really excited to receive it, potentially in the end of this month
What a great way to start the year for sure!
Wish you all a great 2025!
Thanks and enjoy the new machine as and when you get it 😁
Keeping my ‘22 1250GS…. End of gen. and have everything sorted.
There's also the small matter of convincing the wife 😂
Well, here in the states is still 2024! Lol. I traded my 1259 fir a 1300, and I wasn't convinced at first, but if you wanted more omphhh, the 1300 is certainly more entertaining and sporty than the 1250. At first, the 1250 was way more comfortable, but after raising the 1300 bars and fixing the forward slope of the seat, it is perfect now. It feels more sporty and compact, and suspension is better . Radar cruise is awesome.
Enjoy and all the best for 2025.
Suggest you get px prices for both as this may make your mind up for you! HNY fella.
Ride safe and thanks .😊
Don’t swap in the 2 first years after a “new model’! There just are gearbox problems and some more issues with 1300. I bought again an old (NOS) the last 2024model Harley Davidson Road Glide Special 114! Try that one,….. and your last missing “feelings’ are for filled….🤘🏽. That’s Majestic, with lots off emotion, rejoice, bullit proof and 4 years warranty (with can extract after till 80.000km
I think sell the Triumph for sure and keep the 1250 until they refresh the GS1300 (i rode one and the suspension in road is too stiff)
You look good for nearly 60. I’m 47 and wonder how my health will be at 60. Plan to retire from the Police at 60 and hope to be healthy as you to continue enjoying riding.
Police ? Did that for 14 years,left in '98. 4 as a Police motorcyclist and 5 as a surveillance motorcyclist riding a TDR250, plus others...many many years ago 😂
Tough job at times, especially when dealing with death and bodies.
Wow thats a bit of a hit to take!
Recommend to switch to GS 1300, heavenly much better periode:-)
I would sell the Triumph and keep the 1250 until the next revision of the 1300 comes out in a year or two, probably with an updated screen and maybe updated switch gear, and other fixes to things that early adopters complained about.
That does sound like a very good idea and has already crossed my mind if I'm being honest !
G Day from down under mrGSD321 could I please ask a question on your first 2025 video talking about bike swapping etc I noticed your dark screen on the mighty GS as I’m looking at options down under you couldn’t help me out and let me know the make of the screen and of course you opinion is vitally important to me also maybe the size you choose etc as I’m looking to buy one for my GS1250 and that’s possibly one of the best ones I’ve seen if you could let me know mate I’d be forever Grateful indeed
Kind regards
Mark
@@gsd32i
G,Day Mr GSD32i
I would like to say a big thank you for your time on this matter my friend you helped me out know end you did, sorry for the late response mate forgive me and again thank you for all your help
Cheers mate 🍻
If i sell my GSA1250, it's gonna be for a Ducati Multistrada, not for that ugly 1300 thing..
Stick with 1250 best GS BMW ever made, my showroom here in N.I. is full of used r1300. you'll be looking at 10k to change "bonkers".
Keep that one mate. It looks Gawjuss and you won’t find another?
Wait for the R1300RS a proper touring machine. Not something designed for gravel tracks followed by a motorrad repair team
These Chinese navigation units do nothing a Smart phone can't do
I personally use the BMW Conected ride Navigator on both my GSs
It's brilliant
Just don't fancy my iPhone being on display to the world. The connected ride navigator is about £500 ish......and is obviously BMW specific. Choices choices 😁
@gsd32i Never used an IPhone I use an older Android and quad lock on some trips on the speed 400 but always take it of the bike when I've stoped off somewhere
@@stalbansbiker I guess whatever works for a rider and works well is the right way 😁👍
I just bought the latest 1250 as I really don’t like the 13 . I think it did need an up date but that headlight is terrible
What? Have you lost your mind. Look at all the extra cost to get it to where the 1250 is at now. Not much swaps over.
Wife just given me that death stare having seen the video 😂
@@gsd32i I understand and agree with her. If you want all the electronic bells and whistles you pay for them and then they fail!!! The 1250 is the best they have produced. I bought the 2024 1250GSA in preference to the 1300. Best bike I have ever owned
One needs more than one bike IMHO. Then again if you only ride the one bike I would propose upgrading to the 1300GSA NOT the 1300GS.
Thanks , GSA 1300 is just a bit....well marmite and not sure if I would love it.
@@gsd32i It's a bit industrial looks wise, but I like it. Others hate it... to ride though it is brilliant.
Keep the 1250gs
Thinking about selling my 1250 for a MXR1000, thats my dilemma, lol good luck with your decision........
👍
Save your money for now, get more out of the 1250 and give the 1300 another year to iron out any more issues.
Now thats a very sensible idea 🤔
Keep the 1250. The 1300 is ugly and not all that. I love the 1250 and my opinion is to keep it.
I don’t own a BMW, however, please keep your 1250. Leave well enough alone don’t get a 1300… Get rid of the Triumph regardless though 😂
😂
@ I was 60 last year, I currently have a V Strom 800DE and a KTM390 Adventure, I told myself I will have a GS before I hand in my biking resignation.. but not the 1300! Your current GS is all the bike you need! 😉
If, as you say your 1250 is "a stunning, stunning bike" why consider selling it? However if money is no object then go ahead and buy the 1300. 😊
Hi Richard . Valid point ! But as riders when we have an itch that possibly needs scratching , objectivity takes a back seat ….. had that itch all my life. Hence bike number 15 😂🙈Ride safe
No
You don't go on adventures, so...
🙈
I would keep your 1250GS and not upgrade, the only thing your going to gain is a smaller bank balance for a machine that's not another £12,000 better than you already have! And its a lot uglier in my opinion
Another GS Nah just so common go buy yourself something with real charector and looks a trip to your local Ducati dealer is required
I am waiting for a friend to get his v4s multistrada....said I could give it a run 🤔
@gsd32i I have a V2S Multi I have resisted trying V4 I know a guy with one his advice was don't go ride one if you're not prepared to buy one because you ride it you will want one
It may be change for changes sake, which is what I don't want to do....I do wish though they did an M version of the gs .
