This is a supercut of all my footage of the 2018 CTWC, including a bunch of clips that never made it into the original 2018 experience video. With CTWC 2022 just about to start, I’m looking forward to seeing just how much the scene has grown since then - while at the same time remembering how Jonas and Joseph shaped it into what it is today.
So I was unaware of the trophy and name change. But damnit I’m so happy they’ve done it. The NFL has the Lombardi trophy and now the CTWC has the Neubauer J piece. This is the way it should be. Absolutely beautiful.
Honestly kills me to see Jonas. What an A+ human being. Really sad I never got to meet him
You know it’s a good week when scout uploads 2 days in a row
Is this literally the first good week in human history...
Facts
and the ctwc starts the day after
On ma 🙏🙏
"Tetris is a community that is growing, that has wonderful dedicated people in it, and is just something I want to be around."
~Jonas~
And here I am crying again
Bang Tetris for Jonas😢 Rip the Ambassador of Tetris, the true MVP, DAS Crazy
Jonas, so classy. RIP.
Jonas' streams were such a chill place to hang out. I'd put it on just for his laugh and the banging tunes he would play. Sad he isn't with us anymore, but grateful for the time we had with him.
I think the same way back at his streams. I always felt so welcomed by him.
Very cool!
That's sad that Joseph won't participate this year CTWC. Wanted to watch him very much.
And of course it's very unfortunate that Jonas will never see how everything changed...
In my eyes, Jonas Neubauer's death was the most tragic in gaming history. He was such a great human being, but a pre-existing condition just had to overwhelm him.
The match between Jonas and Joseph
The moment that inspired many players from new generation all around the world thanks to them, how that new generation of players brought the game to the next level
Thats just indescribable.
Cant wait to see tournament in this weekend.
Also sometimes these raw footage without extra editing makes it more memorable.
Ugh, Scout has me crying again. Well done! Safe travels and I hope that it's another life changing weekend for the Tetris community. Best of luck to all the competitiors!
thank you scout for pumping out this content before ctwc!
These clips of them behind the crtv is the first time I felt like I saw Jonas live. Totally diff experience than seeing his face playing on the big screen as the match videos are displayed.
thanks agamescout for getting those zooms on the players' faces!! very rare footage.
I discovered in 2019 that Tetris World Championships were a thing and got hooked and watched all the old CTWCs on RUclips up to the 2018 final. I loved every minute of it and rewatched everything in 2021 again for nostalgia for the live events.
Believe it or not, I even watched the 2018 CTWC videos on a date night with a girl I really liked and we kissed that night, which makes for even better memories. 😃
Watching CTWC and also the Dr. Mario side tournaments helped me through some sad times in 2019 and kinda rang in better times for me. I’m really grateful for that and I think it’s soon time to re-watch the old tournaments again!
Scout why did you stock up on onions 😭😭😭
All I can say again is thank you for all you do, and specifically for sharing this footage. It really captures a moment in time, a moment so important to us and that we so treasure. This weekend will truly be in the spirit of Jonas and Joseph. 💘
See you tomorrow!!
Thank you Scout for all that you do ❤
Thanks guys... 🥂
and thank you Pumpy for all that you do
and thank you Violinche for all that you do
lol Vandy/Pumpy, what? sit and watch and harvest the love of tetris into a 7yrs old kid?
@@violinche7489 Yes, that's sounds great. Keep it up!!!
I am not crying, you are crying
Thank you for sharing the footage, and leaving it natural as is. Its always so bittersweet seeing Jonas in play and discussion anymore. You always do him justice and the whole community with your kindness and coverage efforts.
Looking fwd to the next few days with the results.
When the killscreen was lethal.. Thanks for that simple yet amazing look back!
Watching this from the airport on the way to Portland! Can't wait to meet all you guys :D
Hold up, at 9:20 - did they change the trophy to a J piece in honor of Jonas?
They did!
As someone who got into classic tetris in 2020 and who has only ever experienced these historic moments second hand, thank you so much for sharing these videos, and allowing me and maybe others like me just another peek, and a very real and candid one at that, into what was happening!
I second this
In a way, I feel truly sad for you, and others that joined the community more recently, for having missed out on the wonderful presence that Jonas had in the world of Classic Tetris. He and his wife Heather used to stream together and it was one of those rare corners of the internet where everyone was chill and friendly, and you could leave your worries at the door. Not to mention, y'know, the 7 CTWC wins he racked up (Heather was also Dr. Mario world champion for a while, so they were quite the retro games power couple!), and the positive effects he had as an ambassador for the Classic Tetris community.
On the other hand, I sort of envy you, because it would be nice to not find myself on the verge of tears whenever I watch older Tetris content and find myself looking at Jonas' face!
@@SkylerFallow I was only around the Nubbins streams for half a year, joining halfway through 2020. But I wouldn't want to trade that period for anything. Those short 6 months were all that was necessary for me to get fully engaged into the community and I doubt I will ever be able to find a stream and community like the one Jonas had
This video sets a beautiful tone for the weekend ahead. RIP Jonas. Thank you!
Beautiful stuff Scout. Amazing footage. Thanks for all you do.
What an Era. Kind of miss thoses. Thank for sharing ❤️
Who knew several minutes of unedited footage could make me feel so emotional. Beautiful video, Scout
I don’t cry easily; it’s not something within my control. But this video stirred something and the tears did flow. Thanks for sharing this perfect snapshot of a very specific time and mood, Scout.
Thanks Scout. I'm one of those that got hooked on Tetris because of that Joseph vs Jonas video. Love your content.
Thank you for posting this. I know I was not the only one taken by nostalgia of that Golden Era of Classic Tetris when watching your latest video of the Next Generation that is upon us and will play at this year's CTWC. Thank you for this memento of the 2018 championship, this was the best time possible to post this. Looking forward to see how the Top Six do face to face!
Boom! Tetris for Scout!
Thank you. I miss Jonas. He was really a great human.
So hyped for the world championships! Can't wait to see your take.
Thank you so much for sharing this.
Thanks to those finals I lost a lot of friends I played Tetris with casually, cause after this I started practicing and always won. Hahahaha
Thanks Gamescout, this video got me crying several times, it was an amazing era. Seeing Jonas just gets me sentimental.
Man, that hit hard 😢. Thank you for sharing.
It felt like Tetris changed right when Jonas left us. I wish he could've been here to see just how much the community broke the game.
Jonas would have joined breaking the game with them🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. I really miss Jonas.
R.I.P Jonas, you will never be forgotten
I miss Jonas
same
@@marshvif I know it might sound immature and childish by commenting the same thing under every video that has jonas in it, but from time to time it's hard to face reality and accept that he's not there anymore
@@llkurofoxll1013 On the contrary, it's the exact opposite of immature and Childish. We all miss Tetris's ambassador, feeling your feels and expressing them is very much a mature thing to do. Boom, Tetris for Jonas
Boom! Funeral for jonas
@@scienceevolves4417 bro...
Very sad that Joseph or Jonas are not competing this year, but I’m excited to toon to qualifying tomorrow
1 minute in and I'm crying when I saw jonas...
Really i hope classic tetriz community continue to be a healthy place for old and new players
Great video, great tribute to Jonas the legend.
As a Portlander it's always so nice seeing my city play host to all of these players and members of the community. I'd know the carpet in the PDX airport anywhere
Dr. Mario is my jam. Nice to see the mini shout out to it.
So sorry to hear that Joseph will not be competing this year
Rip
4:46 Ha! "Is everyone having a good time so far?" *SMASH CUT TO:* The most serious face I've ever seen in my life 🤨
Beautiful ❤️
From what Jonas said at the end of this video, I can say the same thing for Munchers (MECC). But I know it will take a lot to build a community for each and every game from the ground up.
3:55 Oh no! The upsidedown! Not the upside down! LUL
You know the vibes.
I have to admit that I can hardly bear to watch CTWC following Jonas's passing. This moment in history was huge, and it helped opened the game to thousands (millions?) of new players. I wish them and their amazing new techniques all the very best, I really do. But for me, classic Tetris died with Jonas. So very, very sad.
I agree it will never be the same without Jonas. But I don't feel like it died with him - rather, it lives on through him. People inspired by him continuing to compete every year and the trophy now being the J piece is his legacy
Yours is a much healthier point of view than mine. You're absolutely right. I shall be watching this year and cheering on as I once did :)
the one thing I noticed is the awesome music they were playing some good rock music from the 70s till the 90s
What the heck another scout video
still dont know how unbelievably scripted-like that was
hello duskless
RIP Jonas the GOAT 🐐
two vids in 1 day sheesh
What a nostalgia trip
8:28 oh sheesh, jonas is hypertapping brrrr
God I had completely forgot that Jonas had passed away, he would be so happy to see how much the community has grown and evolved even just in the last year
RIP Jonas
Holy shit! I had no idea Jonas was no longer with us. He was still young. :(
Forever a Tetris legend.
Greatest. Not because of his skill or achievements, but because of his character. He invited newcomers and shared his knowledge.
Go Jonas!
Thank you Jonas for helping making Tetris what is it today.
I happened to start watching Tetris tournament in 2016, i think i got lucky because the whole tournament is on the rise and yes the peak is definitely in 2018.
I’m doing a speech on the evolution of the ctwc, any advice scout? great video as always btw!!
Focus on the even years!
2010- debut
2012- moves to PRGE, modern format debut
2014- first non-Jonas winner
2016- first viral sensation
2018- first hyper rapper wins
2020- explosion of talent with it being online
2022- I just gotta feeling this years gonna be huge
@@aGameScout thanks!! that actually helps a lot with organization :)
Maybe now. Jonas is commentators on the heaven
when is the ctwc worlds this year?? i cant miss it
I’m only 3 minutes in and the footage seems very eerie idk why
I had a bit of the same feeling revisiting the footage too, I think because I was traveling alone and not as comfortable talking/vlogging yet so most of the trip is silent.
I'm not saying there will be a moment like the Joseph Saelee win ever again, but it will be extremely difficult.
God I really miss him man
Sad that the two of them won't be joining with us this year, jonas having passed away sadly.
I wish you could do interviews with CTWC veterans. Since 2021 a lot of veterans just vanished, Harry, Greentea, Koryon ext.
I just wonder what they are up to now. Are they doing fine?
The three players you mentioned are doing fine.
Harry Hong mentioned that he retired from playing competitively. He streams on his Twitch channel, SuPaSaYaJiN.
Greentea and Koryan were unable to make it to Portland in 2022.
RIP Jonas, gone too soon
I'm not a classic tetirs player, and probably wouldn't compete but as a fan would it be worth taking the trip out to next years live event?
If it’s within budget for you, yes! Everyone is approachable and getting to hang with all the people in the scene is really the best part of the weekend.
It's kind of good and sad. I love these events with older people when they are enjoying the moment, not recording every second of it with their phone.
But at the same time, it's hard for people like me who can't travel to another country just to watch tetris to understand what is going on inside there in person.
As a gen z myself tho, can people stop recording everything? Why look through a screen when you're there in person ((for various various events))
@@imaginatedenemy but then you wouldn’t get footage like this so I guess it’s good to have a balance between recording stuff and enjoying the moment
@@DanVWeller oof I wasn’t being too clear in my comment; what I mean is lessen it like, whats the point of “all” attendees taking footage the “entire” span of the event? Kind of thing that’s getting more and more common nowadays 🥲🥲🥲
I’m wondering David will you ever switch to rolling I feel like you’ll get very good
Ohhhhh ohhhhhhhhhh
boom tetris for jeff
Here's hoping Jeff wins this year 😂 BOOM Tetris for Jeff!
💜
Someone cutting onions?
Correct me if im wrong. Didnt joseph start playing because of the "boom tetris for jeff" CTWC match in 2016 ?
This one initially garnered the cult status as a memeworthy video which brought in a young generation through the youtube algorithm and exposed so many of them to the tetris community.
Im not saying 2018 wasnt absolutely pivotal as well but 2016 definetly trumps that for me in my opinion.
I think if you're looking at it from a butterfly effect perspective, sure, none of it happens without Boom Tetris for Jeff, however, that video is only retroactively seen as such an important video because it led to the events we see in this video which was the true turning point of this scene - the last day of the old guard and the rise of the teenager.
Joseph started playing because of Boom Tetris for Jeff.
An entirely new generation of player surfaced because of Joseph winning the 2018 CTWC.
A meme video is funny to watch, a monumental achievement like Joseph's make people want to actually start competing.
tetris
Part 3 of no rotation?
My spot now.
i want world championship for das players, to see old players.... jeff svavar alex grenntea etc..... i will miss them :((((((((((
It exists! There’s a das world championships that debuted this year in Germany
Was iDubbz in the crowd at 5:25?
Just a doppelgänger 😆
@@aGameScout Thanks for the answer (and all your work!)
Wouldn’t be the first time two unrelated interests would randomly coincide… (The latest installment being boulder climber Magnus Midtbo in a video with Twitch legend Ludwig)
B2B videos?
Wait , joseph not join ctwc this year ??
He was busy with personal life
jeffffff
BOOM!
I'm not crying, you are!
If it was live count the money cost. Maybe some player cannot even afford to give looks like 2000 dollars+ from travels.
If was online the show should be great
Yo
This and 2019 was when tetris was at its peak. Now we have kids at the top that people can’t relate to. The game has gone downhill since then.
