Keep an ear out and you may be lucky enough to find them performing somewhere on the streets of Portland. Don't forget too toss them some change or a buck or two so they can record their cd soon.
I was punk in the 80's , hardcore punk, and music could not be more 'different from what these guys play, but I recognize in them an attitude that is familiar to me.....
gutterpunks are familiar to everyone since before gutters were invented.
Antifa......not punks I'm calling it
This is a genre called folk-punk. It's a fusion genre, it's folk music with a punk twist, usually played at a notably faster tempo than traditional folk music, and with a punk ethos about their lyrics, DIY stance, and ethics. Punk was never defined purely by the music, that's why the Minutemen were considered punk, even though their music wasn't similar to other punk at the time. They had the ethics.
Long live dboon
Actually as someone who was at ground zero in NYC in 1975 you're wrong - the original punk scene was diverse and eclectic. It was all about DIY and certain shared attitudes but it was about all different kinds of music from the start - it only got associated with certain styles later and in the eyes of the foolish public.
an ugly girl grabbed a washboard and lazily scraped her fingernails against it and youre sitting here trying to get deeper meaning out of it. go read a book. go practice an instrument. because all youre doing now is burning braincells.
DIY isnt rhythmically tapping on garbage btw. everything has sound everything you hit has pitch if i go pick up a blade of grass to whistle its nothing special so calm tf down about the washboard. It wasnt even diy. she could diy herself out of a plastic bag. i mean how else did she end up like that.
aahhhhhh yes, just the essentials, banjo, accordion, and washboard!!!
That is some really amazing washboarding and terrific dinging
Back when Portland didn't suck as much.
I’ll take the tweakers and lunatics over these fucking losers
I miss when the streets of Portland looked more like this.
They sound pretty rad.
I guarantee you dont play an instrument
Punk is rock star is music love
its cool there doing a dirty kid discount song!
thats the accordion player from dkd
Thats dkd before dkd existed.
Good job the best Paul.
Can you be 46 and a married father of two and still be crust punk ? Shit.i fear not....oh well sounded nice for a few seconds
haha right
tricky... got kids myself and I often think of the crusty days of my life and long to go back... No matter the pain and shit that follows, the freedom calls me every time I see ppl like this... But the kids keep my head clear and I enjoy the memories instead. ...
You are a conformist slave.
If I had a band, we would be called Northern Sailor and play Folk Punk in addition to Irish traditional music. Here's our lineup for both genres:
Folk Punk:
1. Concertina.
2. Bodhran.
3. Acoustic Guitar.
4. Banjo.
5. Acoustic Bass.
Irish Traditional Music:
1. Concertina.
2. Bodhran.
3. Mandolin.
4. Tin Whistle.
5. Cello.
Ultimately Punk defines a movement in music. If you listen to them play without looking at them you hear Eastern European flavored Folk.Very traditional sounding - about as far away from Punk as you can get.
Finally someone that knows what they're talking about.
The lady at 0:06 looked mean.
well i saw these guys cause i was looking up this group i saw busking once called aeon now. idk this is not bad but it doesnt stand out like aeon now to me but to each their own. i could care less about the lifestyle cool i can respect someone chooses to live that way as well as some who doesnt. i just makes my ears happy and suprises me
Thats me playing accordion, we play this music because we all grew up playing in "punk", ska, crust and metal bands but because we are all squatters we find ourselves living without electricity so taught ourselves folk instruments took the ethic, lyrics, and musical styles we had previously played and translated it into something completely new..... blah blah blah..... you can reach us at my email address
Hasn't the definition of what punk is or isn't been played out in the pages of MRR back in the 80's? I see punk as an ever evolving art form. What punk was to me in the eighties may not necessarily be what punk is to someone today. If I'm not mistaken, there was a outcry against the hardcore crowd from the 70's era punks as not being punk. Who cares!
I think punk died in 1978. The ethos are still around I guess, but not in this clip
Try the band Fat White Family
nice washboard
Why do they not have a bar venue..?!?🥳👊🥰🎶🎶👍👍👍👊👊
Great stuff
$100 each and a bottle of booze
@catjoyyoung The music is folk. You win. I grew up very involved in running desert shows in Las Vegas, NV during the early 80's, touring and playing in many bands and "punk shows" often had a variety of "punk rockers" playing their spin on various forms of music. Punk is a lifestyle & also a brand of music. ;●D
Oooooo
ummm did that dude withdraw his dollar as soon as he thuoght the cammera wasn't facing him?
No, I think he missed the case and didn't want it to blow away. It looked like when he dropped it in it landed on the lid, so he was probably just moving it into the case.
sound like some hitchhiking band I picked up in normandy
Punk for me today is the Saints. Yesterday it was Schlong and Pig Children. Tomorrow it will probably be the Weirdos if I it finishes downloading in time.
How can I get a hold of this band to book a show?
Sorry meant to add:
The video is punk as fuck.
Wow that one chick with the washboard is pretty if I had cash in ran in to them I would give.em 20 buck ech
@PDXFANATIC Yes - the term punk does now cover more than just the music. I am afraid I am a bit of a purist. When Green Day arrived in the second wave of punk I really did not feel they were punk. I was in the UK in 1980 and at that point there were many different types of music and even Punk was subdivided into subgroups (punkabilly as example), There were - Mods, Teddys, Ska, etc. which were distinct musically and in the dress code.
No Doubt came along and said they were SKa, I doubt that.
Can someone please tell me what came first the button or piano accordion?
The button accordion came first.
How can I book these guys?
Good ol' hawethorne..
Do you have a dollar?? Got a dollar?!
I KNEW you would reply! I am WAY more punk than that.
@xxmisfirexx Agreed.

burning hope by Dirty Kid Discount I believe
@catjoyyoung Punk is a lifestyle. It always has been. Even Greenday used to be punk. They were homeless and played their hearts out, Now they're millionaires. I don't know whether or not they kept their mojo.
Bar B I miss your face sydni jetkins fb
@jukeboxxxe ??? Um...nope.
tiny homes for the homeless
😂
I’m over it, they’re a dime a dozen these days, very little originality left in the scene, from the sounds to the stories, the music and the crusty freight hop dress code. Walking away from it was the most punk rock shit I’ve ever done.
no, thank you.
This is ultra liberalism.
latfo
oh we also started playing music like this because traditional "punk" is played out and worn out for being anything more than infantile and asinine rebellion, jealously guarded by those who are far to couched in their privilege.
Anyway I can download the songs from the demo, they cutoff halfway here on RUclips and I've alr exceeded my listening limit on bandcamp. And I'm broke lol
hmmm...this is punk? Because of their attire?
I thought punk was a smell comprised of stank and alcohol sweat.
@PDXFANATIC The music is folk. Sorry to spin you out but I am not 12. I was around for the original Punk era when it actually WAS defined by the music and not by the clothing.
Well we disagree.I like to hear the punk in punk music and if I don't look at this particular band what I hear is folk music. I just do not agree that folk, blue grass, salsa, or Mbenga Pygmy music becomes punk when the musicians wear punk attire.
No offense, but I prefer the Cockney Rejects
anyways, these guys are crusty as fuck, which crust would also be a subgenre in punk , and in portland oregon so i would not doubt if they are train hopers and homeless, but anyways if those facts are true it is clear why the decided to do folk, i mean they live on the road and have tales to tell plus i'm sure they squat isn't that punk enough so leave the crusty's alone punk was and is never about the fashion it's about the attitude.
That's not punk. What a bunch of posers! I just wrote this to piss people off.
really gay but also kinda cool
@sickdumpunk And you cannot spell its America or Americans only and money
NO! It sucks!!
Now that's just awful.
Ugh. Oregon dirty kids or Oregon train kids are the worst.
You are the worst!
folk: music that emphasizes traditions and ancestral roots of a certain ethnic group
Punk: people who deny traditions, roots and ethnic groups under the fallacy of "without flags or borders"
Hahaha, ridiculous punks
All this boring folky and piratey bar pubs ounding music is such a trend with "street punks" and the "gutter punk" guys who refuse to get a job. Its quite boring and the people are boring too. Grindcore is where its at.
grindcore isn't even music
they... suck i dont like it
here's 4 wet dollars to stop playing.
Can someone please tell me what came first the button or piano accordion?
