The Bamberg Symphony is composed of musicians from 20 nations including Russia and Ukraine. It is our mission as an orchestra to offer a symphonic symbol of solidarity in these difficult times,and to convey our message in support of peace.
A week after the war broke out, we recorded "Prayer for Ukraine", a piece written by Ukrainian composer Valentin Silvestrov and arranged for orchestra by Eduard Resatsch, under the baton of our chief conductor Jakub Hrůša.
This is the musical expression of the emotions that fill our hearts these days and move all of us -the entire orchestra, Jakub Hrůša and the administration-to do our part in restoring dialogue and hope.
Bei den Bamberger Symphonikern musizieren gemeinsam über 20 Nationen, auch Russen und Ukrainer. Es ist unsere Bestimmung als Orchester, in diesen schwierigen Zeiten ein symphonisches Zeichen der Solidarität zu setzen und Hoffnung auf Frieden zu vermitteln.
Aus diesem Grund haben wir mit unserem Chefdirigenten Jakub Hrůša das Stück „Prayer for Ukraine“ des ukrainischen Komponisten Valentin Silvestrov aufgenommen (von Eduard Resatsch für Orchester arrangiert). Dieses Zeichen der Solidarität ist der musikalische Ausdruck dessen, was uns alle - das gesamte Orchester, Chefdirigent Jakub Hrůša und unser Management - in diesen Tagen in unseren Herzen bewegt. Mit diesem Werk werden wir ebenfalls unsere Konzerte in dieser Woche eröffnen.

Solidarity with Ukraine - The Bamberg Symphony Orchestra play Valentin Silvestrov
More than 20 nations, including Russians and Ukrainians, play together with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra. It is our purpose as an orchestra to send a symphonic signal of solidarity and hope for peace in these difficult times.
For this reason we recorded the piece "Prayer for the Ukraine" by the Ukrainian composer Valentin Silvestrov (arranged for orchestra by Eduard Resatsch) with our chief conductor Jakub Hrůša. This sign of solidarity is the musical expression of what moves all of us - the entire orchestra, chief conductor Jakub Hrůša and our management - in our hearts these days. For the Ukrainians Ukraine is their Motherland (Materyzna, Материзна), Fatherland and Parentsland (Bat'kivshchyna, Батьківщина, because in Ukrainian father is bat'ko, parents is bat'ky or bat'ko in plural), she is all. The original name of the musical thing has the author, he is Valentyn Silvestrov.

0:08 is a good place to start. -- "Prayer for the Ukraine" was written in 2014. The beginning sounds like John Lennon's "Imagine". I don't know if that's an accident or not, but either way it's very fitting.

I suppose the soothing, sweet sound of the European orchestra is par for the course. It is alright, but this tradition can be more contemporary and diverse. Let us tune in to various portions from time to time.
