My roommate in college had an MVC2 cabinet in our house in New Orleans. I'm an absolute scrub at fighting games but this dude was committed to teaching me how to zone with Ice Man. Good times.
That guy must have had some of the best times ever in that house. Doubt a day passes where he doesn't wish he could go back... Send the family my love!
Love playing my low tier + an actual good character + a top-tier assist teams like Mega Man/Doom/Psylocke but if I ever play against a Storm I want to swallow a bullet
Yes exactly. Chris Matrix first hand claims that he did not name it after himself and he wasn't the first well known player to popularize it anyway. He's been getting flak on this for years and is aware that it shouldn't be known as "his" team. It's really Justin's team tbh and we all know this. mvc2 came out in 2000, which was right after the Matrix film released and in the middle of the original trilogy. Chris been saying that he lines up each character on the team to characters in the film series.
This is a great video hope you find fun in this team. I felt the same way so I did team scrub with sentinel and I’ve been having a blast and learning the game.
What assists are you running? I'm brand new and like running Venom as point because he has a simple gameplan and I've been running Venom/Cable looking for a 3rd
@@radiosurgery1802 expansion for Venom, Anti air for Cable and Projectile for Tron. Trons good for combos and buffs up Venoms damage. I'm still experimenting but I've been having a lot of success with it.
@@radiosurgery1802 Venom's B assist has nasty setps with some characters. I don't like using him as first character though since he has slow normals on round start. His B assist helps me do the effin infinite with WM =) If you're wanting to main Venom however, generally projectile assists are the way to go. WM projectile is good with point Venom and surprisingly Jill's otherwise awful slow B assist allows Venom to go for air dash HK crossups into a sweep confirm into super cuz her assist OTGs really well. There's quite some jank assists Venom can make use of to go into big damage. Can't go wrong with Tron either.
If you didn't have a Pocket Cable back in the corner store days, chances are you weren't gonna be at that place for too long. Just like how people had a Pocket Paul in T7, this was the same thing 20 something years ago.
Please make more videos on the other top-tier characters. I don't play this game, but this video actually helped me understand a little more of what's going on in these matches.
I feel like this is a great game to learn fighting game fundamentals. Not necessarily in the street fighter footsie, anti-air, whiff punish sense. But in the way of exploring movement, execution, making game plans, zoning, pressure, character archetypes etc.
Idk maybe I'm insane but I feel Melty Blood does this as well without all the crazy assist coming and going. Or I'm just a scrub that wants more Melty Blood players 😂
this is such a cool ass tutorial, simple, to the point but brings out the most useful information when it's necessary (like when to superjump cancel roundhouse into hyper viper beam)
I think that is an upgrade. lol Mega Man takes actual skill to use. Meanwhile, Cable just spams heavy, quarter-circle, heavy, quarter-circle, heavy, quarter-circle, hyper combo. 🙄
Not sure if this is very helpful, but I have found moderately good success in casual matches using Duc Do’s team of Spiral-α/Cable-β/Sentinel-γ. All you have to do is mash Spiral’s Dancing Swords and mash Sentinel assist, you’ll be able to trap your opponent with chip damage and force them to take risks. If you also incorporate Spiral’s s.HP in your blockstun pressure with good timing, the opponent will be stuck in blockstun for even longer. If they get near you, use Cable’s anti-air assist and pray. The best part? By the time Spiral is low on health and you need to tag her out, Cable will be ready to kill the entire team with 5 bars of meter AND Sentinel assist backing him up. Even if Sentinel is the only one left, you’ll still have all the tools you need to finish them off. Super armor, flight, a super (Hyper Sentinel Force) that can be comboed into and out of, great zoning, big buttons, the list goes on. Sure, Sentinel can be hard, but in my opinion, if you want to invest time in one of the other god characters, Sentinel is definitely the most fun choice.
We've already had this when the game first came out, then things shifted organically once the game matured. It will happen again with the mvcc release and now hopefully with even more of a player pool than before. What is old is new again and that is good.
Personally have had a hankering for MvC2 since the enlightened ones in my scene in RVA put me on to Spiral projectile assist, Cable anti air assist(CapCom anti air assist), and Blackheart anti air assist team and they went through the stuff with each character, specifically sj cancel hyper viper, Blackheart air dash normals, and how the Spiral and even CapCom work together. That was back in 2016/2017 and since then, I've had a huge hankering to get into MvC2. Even went and emulated the Xbox version of MvC2 at one point in 2019 to lab, so I'm glad this collection exists and I can play against peeps with what I've learned. I've even got to the point where I can work one of my fav supers, Time Flip, into a combo that ALMOST kills. So as you can tell me, the one other person I saw with the same team, and a secret third Spiral player that JWong mentions are having a blast.
MvC2 has been a lot of fun for me so far. I found a lobby last night where 3 of us seemed to be around the same level. My team is Gambit, Guile, and Morrigan right now. I’m going to make it a goal to get better at these types of fighting games. Getting more comfortable using assists, but I still got some work to do. The moves feel/sound impactful, and I love it.
Majin turn scrubs into dubs. The rawest of entry level teaching. Hoping for more for the Capcom Fighting Collection. Would be hyped if SNK also re-released other older fighting games with rollback in a collection to highlight their history more.
I actually tried out this team with next to no knowledge of this game and i was able to actually do ok. Won my first couple games online and I will probably stick with this team or find another one with the cable cyclops shell cause they are pretty sick.
Me before the collection: I refuse to use the gods, they're boring and they're everywhere Me after getting my ass whooped online with Juggernaut/Tron: So uh...that storm and cable is looking pretty nice....👀
Been playing SkullGirls for a long time, it's actually been less intimidating than I thought it would be. The main thing is getting used to this oldschool buffering system.
Having to learn an old fighting game after so many years has made me realize how spoiled we can be with so many learning tools in modern fighting games, I still really dig it and im having a good time despite not liking most 2D fighters , now I've just gotta figure out how to make Jill, Doom and Gambit work lol
Ill throw a little in there for Cyclops. The HK combo is about all you need and does more dmaage than most since it doesnt get hurt by damage buffering doing a bucnh of HK but the best way to land it is holding down and HK to change the jump0in to a much better as a jumpin Dropkick like Cables JHK. All of Cycs HK will beat out all but the best other characters normals so you jumping around is hard to counter if you dont have killer button/launcher like Strider or Guile You can also punish lots of characters from full screen almsot instantly with Optic Blast into Super Optic Blast. Gene Splice can also be canceled into SOB and aimed towards to theopponent for a quick counter or off Alpha Counters to switch in safely with a punish. Now SOB is your super for damage but the wide one Hyper Optic Blast is a better tool for chipping n block. It also has ass for recover and dies vs people with quick counters so be aware. There now you cna pretty much play Cyclops too and beat 90% of players
I wanted to make a psylocke, ironman, cable team but cable seems to be the one that feels the best to use Plus i get hella beam action This video gave a good explanation of Cable's grenades, thanks a lot
I was pretty on the fence about buying the collection cause of my lack of team game/marvel play time so I felt I’d just be getting shit on for my lack of knowledge but this might have convinced me to buy it and try it out when I get a chance if I can use this team to get my foot in the door without much commitment or MU knowledge needed
Playstyles are so varied in MVC2 that it's a big part of the joy of playing matches, and seeing teams used in unorthodox but functional manners. Been playing forever and still coming across players with the most unexpected setups.
I think the game is fun. I found a lobby of players that were around my same level last night. It doesn’t mean it’ll always be like that, but honestly that doesn’t bother me. My first Blazblue that I tried to play online was BBCF and everyone I played felt like they played every iteration of Blazblue. I lost a lot sure, but I had a lot of fun in that game regardless.
My first memory of a video game was the PS2 version of Marvel vs Capcom 2. I found the Heavy Punch button on Cable, and my brother got so angry that his 5 year old brother was beating him, that my uncle had to tell me to switch characters.
My homies and I are learning this gem with the ratio system. Having a blast with Juggernaut, Thanos, and Colossus. Pulled off my first alpha counter last night and felt amazing. Super fun game.
You want a team for the scrubs? try Colossus, Hulk, Juggernaut...sure Hulk and Juggernaut don't have good movement and Colossus doesn't have great supers, but they're all easy to do big, damaging hits with, Colossus is a great point character and Hulk and Juggernaut are great assists for him (Juggernaut especially with the glitch returning), plus once you get 3 bars, or god-forbid rainbow super bar, their THC will wipe out anything on the screen, all you gotta do is confirm to super, they can struggle a bit against Cable, but even then, if you catch him with the THC, you solved the problem there and then.
Funnily enough, I play this team because it is a bonafide scrub-killer...and Captain Commando is also my favorite MvC character. Though, I just called it Triple Cs.
Second comment for the algorithm: I'm playing Hulk-Sentinel-War Machine. I've always loved the sentinels, ever since I first played X-men legends. Picking a top tier I love is an easy sell. The DHC is godlike, especially after hulk drops a meteor on my opponents fucking head. War Machine was my MvC1 main and his assist is better than Iron Mans'. Iron Man may be better on point, but his anti-air assist is too easily stuffed. A random catch from the very good war machine assist leads into a 2 bar TOD when hulk is on point. A crouching low into the war machine assist can do up to 120 damage on cable! For one bar! Health is universally 143! Neutral is tough, but my team is a defensive powerhouse. If I'm really struggling to get in, I just DHC into sentinel and go ham on flight. The game is really fun.
Honestly, the only reason why I never got into vs team games like marvel is because there's too much going on on the screen. If you ask if it's intimidating, yeah it kinda is. It feels like I can't follow anything that's happening.
The inside joke back in the day was that mvc2 isn’t a fight game, it’s a shooting game 😂. You got beams, lasers, grenades, rocks, swords coming at you that you have to navigate.
I apply these kinds of fundamentals to my game plan when I play my team of megaman, bb hood, and juggernaut. Made some of my friends that I play with annoyed af

Nintendo Switch lite, on the airplane wifi finding games and not disconnecting or frame skipping everything on 3 frames. How is this even real man
Great video. I started playing yesterday, got going with Team Scrub, been beating other low skilled players just by zoning. Very fun. I'll add some of your tips Any more recommendations on being consistent with tiger knee execution?
winners call their assist 2nd for tigerknee AHVB, you might get a normal jump version, you might need to do 2369 instead of 12369 or 412369 for the superjump to register better(you want the superjump version for superjump cancelling normals) for practicing guard break j.HP, you can just record the dummy holding back for 10 seconds or something and 2LK 2MK snapback
He actually said to do 2369 7:22 The beauty of AHVB is that if you did 2 AHVB low to the ground, you can just normal jump for the third. it becomes more about beam placement
If you're having trouble with the tiger knee out there. You can almost do 2/3rds of an SPD motion and it works more consistent but slightly higher off the ground. Helped me alot with consistency.
I wanna scoop this collection at some point pretty bad just because of mvc2 netplay, although I might try fightcade again before I scoop as for teams, I haven't played marvel in quite a long time, but I'll probably run my cable/wolverine/gambit team and see what I can cook
I work full-time and have always adored MVC2 from afar and only ever got to play it sparingly every few years or so. When I get the chance I want to run a Magneto, Dhalsim team. Who is Cable weak against and who might be a good anchor/assist? I'm thinking Iron Man right now.
I've been running one of those BB Hood Juggernaut team Super assist snipe teams against the high tiers that I run into online, and I make Cable my third when playing this team, because BB Hood benefits greatly from Cable's anti-air assist and I find that I get some of the best damage out of the team super on enemies that are directly in front of me with hyper viper beam.
Winning or losing I have been having a blast, unless I'm fighting Cable, then I wanna legit commit crimes. Played against a Cable, Black Heart and CapCom team earlier and I picked the wrong assist on my team and just gave up.
I'm playing team scrub right now and man it's so nice to have that commando assist and my sentinel is way better than it was last week it has been so satisfying learning this game
I got zoned out by a Cable with a Storm with Typhoon assist. Learning/"welcome to the real world" moment. Fighting high-tiers with silly teams is impossible. Fought him like 8 matches straight tho.

I've been playing Felicia/Cable/Sentinel since like 2007
Not me coming into the video and seeing Obama suggest my team off the bat lmao. 😅 It’s exactly as he says though.

@@doogies hell yeah. I’m not trying to learn marvel, I’m just trying to play lol.
"viperrrr-
hyperrr viperrr"
I like Cable Cammy and spiderman
winners call their assist 2nd
for tigerknee AHVB, you might get a normal jump version, you might need to do 2369 instead of 12369 or 412369 for the superjump to register better(you want the superjump version for superjump cancelling normals)
for practicing guard break j.HP, you can just record the dummy holding back for 10 seconds or something and 2LK 2MK snapback
Do you start at the bottom and rotate directly to up?

I wanna scoop this collection at some point pretty bad just because of mvc2 netplay, although I might try fightcade again before I scoop
as for teams, I haven't played marvel in quite a long time, but I'll probably run my cable/wolverine/gambit team and see what I can cook
Eff cyclops. Sentinel and team scrub ALL THE WAY!!! Frying pan commando makin people mad. Lmfao!
Hes buffer obviously but less intuitive and more effort. This team is so easy a vtuber could do it
@@doogies for sure man. This is just what i thought when I booted this game up. THANK GOD FOR THE MACHINE!!!
I work full-time and have always adored MVC2 from afar and only ever got to play it sparingly every few years or so. When I get the chance I want to run a Magneto, Dhalsim team. Who is Cable weak against and who might be a good anchor/assist?
I'm thinking Iron Man right now.
lol I remember looking at that team list , ah to be a noob again
Damn it Majin, I’m trying to have fun with my low tiers and you out here telling people to play Cable. 😂😂😂
I've been running one of those BB Hood Juggernaut team Super assist snipe teams against the high tiers that I run into online, and I make Cable my third when playing this team, because BB Hood benefits greatly from Cable's anti-air assist and I find that I get some of the best damage out of the team super on enemies that are directly in front of me with hyper viper beam.
love the crt filter
I thought team ssc was called team gay 😂
Thanks for this vid, dude.
Glad to help!
Winning or losing I have been having a blast, unless I'm fighting Cable, then I wanna legit commit crimes. Played against a Cable, Black Heart and CapCom team earlier and I picked the wrong assist on my team and just gave up.
Cable go innnn boooy!! and cash checks lol
this worked well for most games except for the ones where my friend hit cable with iron man/war machine and then did the infinite
That im/wm loop would work on anyone tho

comment for the algo! always posting banger content we appreciate u!
Sorry but Cable requires too much brain power, I play Iceman for my zoning. I make the big orb or beam and call corridor.
Similar approach!
I'm playing team scrub right now and man it's so nice to have that commando assist and my sentinel is way better than it was last week it has been so satisfying learning this game
I feel attacked by the title ;P
I always felt super stiff playing MvC2. Once I understood to play Cable ans spam mire assists the game feels so much better.
Cable takes the stiffness and gives it power lol. If u learn how to move and dash even a lil bit with him u make him even stronger
I got zoned out by a Cable with a Storm with Typhoon assist. Learning/"welcome to the real world" moment. Fighting high-tiers with silly teams is impossible. Fought him like 8 matches straight tho.
Viber hiber beam
Good stuff
Thanks for the visit
@@doogies u got a new fan
Lol people hae been complaining about cable since my childhood
