i mean in his case he did it wrong. but sometimes you do it to scare the player into changing course into your dumbfires. they'll expect homing torps to come so they change course thinking the homing torps will follow their new course then zig zag and end up hitting your dumbfires. obviously in this guy's case that wasn't what he was going for, but it is a thing you can do.
