@Thomas, this. It's hard to explain but I remember when I first started I had troubles with playing simple chords or fingerpicking any songs. After a time of playing there's something that just snaps inside ur brain and it takes all the knowledge you have and bends it, like playdough. Learning new things really does get easier, you just have to be dedicated enough to learn your first hard song ever and that's when you'll notice how many songs have these similarities that makes it easier for you to learn them.

Your wrist seems to be a little stiff in your picking hand. Loosen up a little bit and pretend you are shaking water off your hand when strumming and when picking. A lot of it is in the wrist and if you lock it, you will feel tension and fatigue in your forearm which you don’t want. Be relaxed.
Amazing progress! You're doing exactly what natural musicians have done for centuries. I would say first what's your goal as a musician? Do wanna play for fun? If that's the case, then keep doing exactly what your doing. Do you wanna be an expert/pro? Then find a teacher/mentor. Every guitar god had some form of instruction, whether it was their parents, friends, neighbor, no one is really self taught. Having a mentor will cut your progress in half. Then, get in a band and start performing consistently every where: backyard barbecues, bar mitsvas, where ever you can get an chance to perform. This will literally boost your guitar skills and confidence. Scales are only useful for warmups and learning the fretboard, learn riffs, lines and solos instead. This will teach you the language of music. Practice is crucial but if you're not applying it in performance, then there's no point. Peace.

I think if I could get over the initial beginning phase I would be ok. I’ve watched countless RUclips videos on beginners guitar lessons but I just get stuck. Anyway great video man and congrats on the progress. You sound really good
I'm a beginner and I'm familiar with what you're describing. My advice is to identify what you're bad at, which might be as simple as being able to reach the low E string with all four fingers. Keep practicing that kind of thing, it's not fun but you'll slowly build new skills upon previous mastered ones, even if it's as simple as strumming one chord consistently. Even if you can only play one note, you can play with the rythm in your strumming hand and still create some interesting musical riffs.
Its all in your goddamn head the brain plays you..literally you procrastinate and you tend to be lazy then be productive come on lets remove that trash you're supposed to control your brain not your brain control you cant you see the reason we procrastinate is because of chemical reactions that are stopping us do things that benefits us, and would you let that chemicals(emotions) ruin your life, NO,right?.....now go get that god damn guitar and learn most of the successful people are the people who had overcomed this mindset
I'm a year in now and the greek modes n pentatonic scales are what has opened everything up for me tbh it took way more trial n error than wanted to even get where I'm at. I've realized it is very satisfying to play but it all comes with time and you can't rush time so you gotta be patient sometimes n just let it all come to you. it's a different learning curve for everyone but picking up a guitar n having the courage to stick with it throughout the failure has been the sweetest journey of my life!

I’m around 11 months in playing guitar and I can say the biggest threat to improvement is not playing at all. I had a month long period of little to no motivation and it’s just important to find new and challenging songs to play.
Congratulations! Welcome to the treehouse club. We're glad to have you as a member 🎼🎵🎶🎵🎶🎸❤ P.S. your dedication earned you another subscriber. Me. P.P.S. take some lessons at a music school and /or get in a band. Music is exponentially more enjoyable when you participate in a communal setting. It's meant to be shared. Furthermore you will learn stuff from other people that will really help you. And you will reach a level (sooner than you think) where YOU will be the person helping others. The next step after that is performing. When you first start doing it it's very scary. But you'll get past that and then it's an absolute blast. It's a dream come true. Trust me. I know you have thought about it . We've all been there lol
Absolutely incredible. I’m 15 and just started acoustic guitar as my grandad is in love with guitars too. This video really inspired me - defiantly Subscribing !!! 😎💗
this is showing up in recommended for me, so expect lots of views ahah. nice job man happy for you and your progress! what have you found not "the hardest" but the most time consuming/demanding thing to learn?
Great progress, it seems you've been bitten by the guitar bug. Cool to see you switch between electric and acoustic. I also had my one year anniversary, but play only acoustic guitar since I bought it.
An exercise that helped with my fret hand strength & movement is fingers 12/13/14/23/24/34 then 43/42/41/32/31/21 although you've made great progress goodstuff.
I can't believe I was 17 when I started playing, took lessons for a month and played every day until I got to a point where I could play chords pretty well and was actually pretty decent sounding, then one day I got busy with college, and fast forward to now, I'm 26 and realized how much time has passed. I'm happy with what I accomplished throughout the years, but guitar wasn't one of them and I wonder where I could be at if I spent 30 mins at night practicing for the last 9 years. Time flies jeez. Making it a goal to make up for that time now with good practice.
Wow I’ve always wanted to learn how to play a guitar, this video gives me so much motivation, a few songs in this video were some songs I’ve always fantasized about playing, I never knew some of the songs was acoustic guitar, the more I know!!!
I totally believe you and congratulations. I admire your efforts. This will always be your go to meditation. I recommend listening to some jazz guitarists like Pat Metheny or Wes Montgomery John Abercrombie etc. You will eventually get bored with rock.
If you really want to do some finger style guitar. Learn Travis fingerpicking. Super easy and literly any song can be transcribed. But you are making awesome progress. Your right hand alternate picking is really good and will only progress from here. From what I hear, you maybe could benefit from learning the 5 minor blues positions. Or even just the first position with the Bottom of the second. There’s only about a million easy licks from that alone. Kudos to you sir. Cheers

Great job. People who have never picked up the guitar are the ones calling you a fake and a liar. Anyone who plays can tell . We have all been there. Again a great job. Keep it up. You are going g to be good.
Im 9 months into playing guitar, this got me even more inspired ahhahha, great job man!
Amazing progress my man! I wish I had the same focus on getting harmonies and chords down. Keep it up!
Thanks dude I believe in u!
I’m 43 and bought my first guitar 6 months ago. It’s just hanging on my wall. I don’t even know where to start. It’s so intimidating.
This was really awesomel!!! Looks like when you started learning scales and moving them and chords/moving them around easier things started to get way better even though things were already amazing in the beginning!!! Hoping you have a really great year, with everything!
I Also hope to see another video too!! I'm thinking of putting all my random clips 7 months from now into a video to see how far I've changed too, it looks like youre shocked at how surreal it isi love it
DUDE HOW MANY GUITARS DO YOU HAVE!!!! I have been playing for 2 and half years but still only have one electric and one accoustic. your lucky
Great progress and thanks for sharing on line. These videos are useful to compare our own progress to. You are doing really well.
Subbed to support your channel.
Thanks for the love!
Good work mate! You only get out of it what you put in.
damn dude that really impressive I just started and that was pretty inspiring.
Takes a lot of courage to share videos of yourself playing early on, great work man!
defintly a sub i really want to get into guitar so im saving up rn but till then ill just watch these
That’s got me pumped dude!
i've ben playing for a month!! Get a cheap but quality guitar, or a second hand one
Im lucky my sister has both an electric and an acoustic and she doesnt really play much. i actually have the electric guitar here in my room
Great video mate. I’ve been playing for only 3 weeks for first time and loving it. I’m doing the Justin Guitar course and just strumming a few open chords at the moment but excited for what the future holds. Thanks for the inspiration in your video! 👍
Nice man I hope your journey continues to thrive
Hey John, I've been doing the Justin guitar course for about a month now and learnt lots. You still practicing? If so how much have you improved now?
Hmmm....I heard some Bloodhound Gang in there? Great job! Keep it up!
Well done. People who don’t play don’t understand the time and patience required 👍
a lot of time and frustration. ups and downs
Always remember guitar learning is a marathon, not a 100m sprint.
Wow wow wow ! This was so inspiring on so many levels! The ending got me! When he said it's changed him in so many ways and given him so much. I felt that! I've been learning Spanish and I went from frustration were my head felt it would expload to one day waking up and just speaking Spanish - which felt like magic - it's given me so much more than just learning Spanish, the next level is to conquer the guitar! !
I'm glad I was recommended this...great job mate
Just found this video. Not sure if you're trying to do the whole youtube thing (you should!) but upload more guitar related content. I see you're into skateboarding as well but this right here is your bread and butter plus you have a chill personally which helps a lot. Picking up my guitar this week. Much love bro!
Your cat chasing its tail to country road was easily the highlight of your progression
Mate get a loop pedal its loads fun and REALLY helps your playing and timing
Ya, couldn’t agree more, and loads of fun.
I started 2 weeks ago and far out I'm struggling but I'm putting in at least about an hour a day. It's so inspiring to see people progressing so much my goal is crazy train eventually lol
Jonas Dickenson I’ve played for a year and crazy train is super rewarding when you get the full song down. Don’t be intimidated by it, like many songs it isn’t very scary after a bit of practise!
That’s a fun one. You got it dude! Just keep practicing and it’ll all become easier
Did you ever learn it
4:44 that cat telling to stop playing the forbidden riff🤣
Keep up the good work man!
thanks man. sub to watch me grow :)
Why are there people thumbs downing..KEEP IT UP BROTHER,!!!!!!
you are awesome. you are are really motivating me. guitar can be frustrating. but its really the best thing you can invest your time in to. its defintely worth the time and the effort.
Michael Moskaľ definitely worth all the frustration. Taught me lot about myself honestly
I’m around 11 months in playing guitar and I can say the biggest threat to improvement is not playing at all. I had a month long period of little to no motivation and it’s just important to find new and challenging songs to play.
Congratulations! Welcome to the treehouse club. We're glad to have you as a member 🎼🎵🎶🎵🎶🎸❤
P.S. your dedication earned you another subscriber. Me. P.P.S. take some lessons at a music school and /or get in a band.
It's a dream come
true. Trust me. I know you have thought about it . We've all been there lol
Self-taught for the win! You're doing a great job, keep it up!
Gorgeous progress here ... so cool you filmed it all... impressive...enjoyed this very much... will come check on you again 😎🌹
Great progress! Well done!
Damn crazy that we started playing around the same time and most of the songs u played where my first too
Bruh when you said you gained an appreciation for Neil young , me too sir me too. He makes it sound like 2 people are playing
Absolutely incredible. I’m 15 and just started acoustic guitar as my grandad is in love with guitars too. This video really inspired me - defiantly Subscribing !!! 😎💗
Hows it going?
this is showing up in recommended for me, so expect lots of views ahah. nice job man happy for you and your progress!
what have you found not "the hardest" but the most time consuming/demanding thing to learn?
I know this video is two years old, but it encouraged and inspired me today (Dec. 27, 2022). Thank you!
keep it up bro, that's amazing!
keep it up man! go for it!
Great progress, it seems you've been bitten by the guitar bug. Cool to see you switch between electric and acoustic. I also had my one year anniversary, but play only acoustic guitar since I bought it.
Great work brother- you should be proud👍
An exercise that helped with my fret hand strength & movement is fingers 12/13/14/23/24/34 then 43/42/41/32/31/21 although you've made great progress goodstuff.
Nice work! Keep it up!
thank you!
Gooe luck with everything pal
I can't believe I was 17 when I started playing, took lessons for a month and played every day until I got to a point where I could play chords pretty well and was actually pretty decent sounding, then one day I got busy with college, and fast forward to now, I'm 26 and realized how much time has passed. I'm happy with what I accomplished throughout the years, but guitar wasn't one of them and I wonder where I could be at if I spent 30 mins at night practicing for the last 9 years. Time flies jeez. Making it a goal to make up for that time now with good practice.
Woah my guitar anniversary is on the exact same day. May 19
dude, I litteraly started practicing myself 1 day after you in the same year! that's crazy!
Wow I’ve always wanted to learn how to play a guitar, this video gives me so much motivation, a few songs in this video were some songs I’ve always fantasized about playing, I never knew some of the songs was acoustic guitar, the more I know!!!
Enjoy it, you have a lifetime of pleasure from the guitar ahead of you, the more you give, the more you get back.
I totally believe you and congratulations. I admire your efforts. This will always be your go to meditation. I recommend listening to some jazz guitarists like Pat Metheny or Wes Montgomery John Abercrombie etc. You will eventually get bored with rock.
Dennis Davidson Pat Metheny is the best!
Cheers
Thank you!! I’ve come a long way since posting this and working on a new vid. I’m gonna look into the fingerpicking and blues scales
Can you now please show us your methods on practicing,? What are your resources, practice tools drills etc.
I’m having trouble with sticking with it, I taught myself how to play for a year but I’m nowhere near this good yet and I’m trying to figure out ways to get past looking at RUclips videos for how to play guitar.
same here man, I just wanna be able to feel the music when I play better and really know what im playing and not just making chord shapes. I feel like I should be spending more time practicing but like picking it up almost every day just playing some still doesn't feel like enough
Good luck, man!)
4:41 I thought the cat's sound is my house lol
Thats awesome bro im almost on my second year playing guitar keep on jamming out and playing
LMAO that’s exactly how my bohemian rhapsody sounded at first 😂😂
Ollie Alexander lollll
That's how mine sounds right now lolol
Was that my apocalypse solo at 1:28 ?
nice work! keep it up
At 1:20 were you playing the My Apocalypse solo??? That solo is fckn sick man I love it.
