This is far and away one of the most underrated metal albums in the last 20 years. Still solid, and doesn't feel stale even after years and my own taste changes
50 year old metal head here. I've been around for all of it; and I can say without reservation that this album is a masterpiece of the Heavy Metal music genre.
superbarnie Lol? What does racism have to do with my comment? Most American bands have a more Hardcore or Metalcore style these days. I was just surprised to know that some are making actual Melodic Death Metal music.
pyroth309 Yeah they are definately technical but they also have a very clear gotherburg influence so I'd put them to "technical melodic death metal" (if I have to label as anything other than f***ing amazing)
Pat Pintaville and Peter Joseph are the 2 most undiscovered guitarists on the planet, they create eargasmic melodies and solos that blast your face off in amazement, hope they start to get the credit they deseve soon, if you like 90s arch enemy/ At the gates listen to all the absences songs, very similar.
I'm so grateful I have had the opportunity to listen to these guys since 04! They seriously are my favorite band and always will be. There is not a single thing wrong with any note in any song. Keep at you guys are the best.
Riders of The Plague is, IMO, one of the best metal albums of the past decade, this is an inredible song and it isn't even one of my fav on the album. Can't wait for the 3rd one
I was on tour in Pensacola or Fort Myers FL right around this time. July, 2009 actually. Missed my opportunity to play the Crowbar due to a huge fight between my lead guitarist and the girl he just had to bring with him. Still a good friend of mine all these years later, though I still haven't forgiven him for torpedoing the band we were in at that time, and another a few years later. Get a wave of nostalgia every time I see or hear anything related to The Absence as I was a huge fan back then.
these guys truly are amazing the only band that has that "AT THE GATES" "vibe" and sounds like the old way melo-death used to be played, im looking forward to the new album early next year :)
if you think about it, all of the best riffs ever are simple and straightforward and the most memorable. I think that is the way riffs should be simple and catchy, doesn't have to fast or technical. I think they do a good job of making great riffs that have melody and agression
I'm stoaked everyone else is into this band, every time i watch a video theres like a million negative comments. these guys are in my opinion the readest metal band right now.
The solos are great and I love the string bends. At first I though it sounded like LoG's Now You'e Got Something To Die For but then I was like it kinda sounds like In Flames but it really doesn's matter because this band has a great combination of melody, musicianship, and heavy. Very nice.
Ya I know what you mean dude but you have to admit this is still a badass band!! Especially the Riders of the Plague album! They sound a lot like Arch Enemy in my opinion, you can tell they were strongly influenced by them
such an epic album is ROTP, im so glad i found them by chance a few months ago and can honestly say there one of my fav melodic death/thrash metal bands now.
1:41-1:44, that kid is one of the best parts of the video. Great song, haven't listened to it in a couple weeks but now I"m gonna have to go get the albums since I have money now. :)
@vmatt123 Riders of the plague has some of the best harmonies and melody ive ever heard musicians put into music, listen to songs like "world divides" or a song by them called "outro" some of the best soloing ive ever heard created from these two genius guitar players, this band is amazing.
Your music is beyond awesome, thanks so much for these most delicious tasty riffs, guitar solis/solos, and badass vocals! you guys are keepin it real, giving me just meat, potatoes and sauce, and at the end of the day that's all I need.
i honestly dont understand why these guys aren't touring the world. they're absolutely amazing and they def should be doing international tours with the big name metal bands
Actually, I thoghut the same thing. Apparrently, they're actually more influenced by VERY early Soilwork, with traces from the other Gods of Gothenburg and Melodic Deathmetal in general. Regardless of the tree from which they spawned, the fruit we reap is phenomenal. This band is fucknig awesome.
It isn't about simplicity or technicality. It's about making decent, talent-full(? lol) music. Just because pop music pleases the masses doesn't mean it isn't shit. Case and point; Meshuggah.
The second guitar solo is simply out of this world. No way to describe it even years after. Legendary !
This is far and away one of the most underrated metal albums in the last 20 years. Still solid, and doesn't feel stale even after years and my own taste changes
Yep

Badass. Just found this band a few days ago and I'm an instant fan. Had no idea great American Melodeath like this existed. 10/10
pyroth309 Also check out Allegaeon, they are American as well (from Colorado I believe)
pyroth309 racist
Dennis Plotnik
Yea, Allegaeon is great and I like them but they're more..technical death or progressive death to me.
superbarnie

The guitar players riffs are pure genius!
Yep
10 years later still godlike.
Dragon Warrior Productions, too bad the album after this was a complete wash...just not even close to this one.
I didn't care for it much, either. Listen to their latest one, though.
This still kicks ass, these guys were so fucking good back in high school. Nothing really comes close to their melodies.
Whoever the dude up front, singing along and totally getting it... He RULES!!
Pete and Pat are the coolest dude ever. Top notch human beings.
Such a great band. My buddy saw them live years ago and introduced me to them, and I am very thankful for that, hah.
I'm so grateful I have had the opportunity to listen to these guys since 04! They seriously are my favorite band and always will be. There is not a single thing wrong with any note in any song. Keep at you guys are the best.

I love how the riff beginning at 2:46 turns the song into totally different, genius guitar work. This might be my new favourite band!
How have I never heard this? This is excellent
these guys truly are amazing the only band that has that "AT THE GATES" "vibe" and sounds like the old way melo-death used to be played, im looking forward to the new album early next year :)

amazing talent for composing a brutal but yet melodic death metal masterpiece!
Thumbs up for The Absence!
FUCK, I love that opening riff. I live about 10 miles from the Crowbar, too. Thank FL for real music like this.
The solos are great and I love the string bends. At first I though it sounded like LoG's Now You'e Got Something To Die For but then I was like it kinda sounds like In Flames but it really doesn's matter because this band has a great combination of melody, musicianship, and heavy. Very nice.
Both guitarists in this band are amazing.
Their new album is FINALLY coming out! ^_^

The exact thing i thought!!! "this is great! the sound just like old Arch Enemy" (discovering the band with this album in 2022)
Great Band! Greetings From Perú!!!
I saw them live and they were awesome. Usually opening bands have a shittier sound quality, but they sounded perfect.
Dayuummm this song gets really good.
That riff in the middle sold me!

They are too awesome to only have 5000 views on this piece of gold.
These guys are very nice in person. Saw them a few years ago with Graveworm, Vader, Destruction and a few other bands in Ft. Worth.
That old bearded man guitar tone sounds nice synching up with the kick drum like that. I could listen to that sound all day.
the shots that they have of them playing the guitar is fricken sweet

The intro riff sounds like The Absence - Dead and Gone. Killer 🤘
Your music is beyond awesome, thanks so much for these most delicious tasty riffs, guitar solis/solos, and badass vocals! you guys are keepin it real, giving me just meat, potatoes and sauce, and at the end of the day that's all I need.

This band is fucknig awesome.
Thats why I like so much like doom metal, or acts like this that aren't about being flashy, but playing more for themselves instead of showing off.
pink guitars look so awesome
i agree, they must get more recognition!!!
this song has bred fear deep into my soul!
Very nice band I'm waiting for another album
Look no further: ruclips.net/video/AdHUryDMcHs/видео.html

It isn't about simplicity or technicality. It's about making decent, talent-full(? lol) music. Just because pop music pleases the masses doesn't mean it isn't shit.
Case and point; Meshuggah.
