I absolutely love this!! By the way, it wasn't SUPPOSED to sound rehearsed!! This was a scene from Doris' TV show, sung while she and Tony were still in character
--like a sing-along around the piano after dinner :)
It sounds fabulous to me; and Doris, as always, was in perfect voice (Tony Bennett wasn't so bad either....LOL)!!!

Do you all know that Doris Day was the female vocalist for the Dorsey Band back in the day? She became a crossover act into movies, and TV, and could handle singing, acting, and comedy with equal ease.
And now her charity work, especially with pets ... that too is unequalled.

Tony Bennett's career spans for nearly 60 years now that he was featured on American Idol performing with Christina Aguilera and just recently featured with a group of young singers performing the song, "We Are the World." in dedication to the victims of the Haiti earthquake.

She loved the people she worked with, but when it came down to it was strictly a contractual obligation. After the 5th season, they tried to pick it up for a 6th. Doris had a press conference and announced that she was obligated to do 5 seasons, she did the 5 and she was done.

@ciroalb3 and classicfan.. I think the feeling was superb. The unrehearsed-ness of it kept it fun and interactive (like instrumental jazz, which is far more so than vocal). Not sure if that's what they were going for, but if this show was filmed live, I think it fits great.

I just watched the TCM 100th Birthday tribute to Doris Day.
I hadn't seen The Doris Day show in over 50 years, and immediately started tearing up during opening theme and credits.
    [Self Edit]
TCM showed 4 episodes, one each from 1970, 1973 and two from 1971 (I think that's right...
    I really enjoyed them.
So sad that Doris and the San Francisco shown in the credits are both long gone...
    On a much lighter note;
I'm pretty sure that even in those utopian days of the city (Circa 1968-1973) that no fisherman, Italian nor otherwise were fishing for, let alone catching lobster.
    Crab!
I had to laugh at that.

I'm a fifth-generation San Franciscan. I despise this song. It's so sappy and saccharine. A far better one is "San Francisco" from the 1936 classic "San Francisco" starring Jeanette MacDonald, Clark Gable, and Spencer Tracy. So much better.

      I love that movie!
I've only been able to see it once, and that was a few years ago on TCM
      Great special effects.
      Isn't it
funny how many of us, natives such as yourself, and longtime transplants like me, and the relative new comers all have their favorite City Anthem?
For instance, my Ladyfriend, foreign born, shares the same favorite as one of my former co-workers who is multi generational like you; Otis Redding's "Sittin' On The Dock Of The Bay"
For me it's, composer/arranger Patrick Williams' theme for the "Streets Of San Francisco"
The early series fanfare and parting song, not the later with the harpsichord out front.
      Nice talking to you!

@@kidmack3556 : The movie "San Francisco" can be found on several streaming platforms (RUclips, for one) at a fairly low rental price. Just do a search to find them. Not sure when TCM will show it again so streaming might be the way to go. It's also amazing to consider that the movie came out only 30 years after the Quake.

      I will do that thanks.
A good choice for this weekend!
I have a book from a year or two after the that earthquake.
I found it in the storage shed at my Gran's in 1979 (Perris Ca.)
Very interesting book with photos and first hand accounts from different districts of the city.
I liked the perspectives of the soldiers from Ft.Point and the Presidio that had to patrol the city at night to deter looters, and keep order in the temporary tent encampments during the day.
And the Chinatown accounts also, very mysterious...
