This: "When you are drowning in patients and paperwork and compromising patient safety". This goes against every principle nursing supposedly upholds. This has to change. Every state needs to mandate SAFE patient ratios. Period.

The burnout rate and stress is the cause of the shortage. By the way, anyone can file a complaint against you and you could lose your license. I would not recommend anyone to be a nurse- be a X ray tech or

You said it perfect...just a whirlwind of tasks that we sometimes don't feel like even connected with the patients.

My husband and I own a Restaurant which I wait tables at occasionally. I remember as a brand new waitress, only being able to take 1-2 tables because otherwise they would all get bad service, but you work your way up to several tables and get better at multitasking and time management. I am starting nursing school in January and I've thought about how waiting tables has prob been good practice as far a juggling needy "customers" and learning to meet everyone's needs. Haha!

You are in for a huge surprise. Waiting tables is nothing like patient care on a Med Sug floor with 6 ill patients.

Thank you for sharing this very real side to nursing, and being open and honest. It is informative and educational.

I realize nurses can be frustrating, but when I blog, I find nurses complain so much that all they have to do is look at their paycheck and realize nowhere else and their lives. Will they be making more money, I think nurses that complain should reevaluate…

NEW DRINKING GAME! Take a shot every time you hear the word 'Nursing' :P
Good job tackling this topic. It gives people a better perspective of what the job entails.

Why in the world would anyone give this video a thumbs down? I see only a few, but why, I just don't get it. She spoke the truth, and I'm sure many of us nurses relate to everything she said.

Today of all days I needed this. I work on an oncology palliative care floor. It's hard to separate emotionally when I have six patients and one passes and then I have to go on like nothing happened because I have five other patients that need me. I am exhausted tonight. I am going to work every other day m,w, f.... for awhile so I keep my passion going. It is nice when someone tells you that you did a great job. Upward and forward.

Nursing sucks sometimes. I recorded a video my FIRST week of nursing school a few weeks before I dropped out. Uploaded it on my channel. Now fast forward to three years later I'm a travel nurse.

I dont think that all nursing jobs are like that, it really depends on where you work. Like working at a clinic, doctors office, hospice, etc aren't as stressful and physically demanding as working in a hospital.

I can totally understand when a patient might be rude and irritable. I'm going back to college for an RN degree. I basically try to put myself in their shoes. I know what it's like to be on the other side. When my grandparents were in the hospital and stuff.

I am fortunate enough to say I have retired from this exhausting profession- 30 years of Adult/Pedi Trauma- I don't even have the energy to be a medical volunteer! I feel like I already did that after all of the terrible pay.

what are some pros of OR nursing??

    • @ChiefDoesStuff
      @ChiefDoesStuff 8 лет назад

Ellie Nash Pro's for me would be less patient/family interaction. Of course that's what drives a lot of people to be nurses, so it's not for everyone. I think it's kind of one of those love it or hate it specialties. But I think it would suit my personality a lot better.

Ugh... This is so true. I'm a new nurse and im struggling with this realization. This is not what I thought nursing would be. I want to make a connection with my patients but there's no time. I want to hear their stories but I get anxious and upset when they do because I have 30 billion other things to do. 😔

+Ashley Adkins, RN You can do that? It thought it had to be 8x5 or 12x3.
So nurses basically choose their own schedules?
