I also had a guy who would low ball me on every item I sold and then eventually got one and said oh it doesn't work well, can I have X amount off. Eventually I blocked him too, he was extremely cheap and annoying to deal with. It was old Apple products my wife had that were just sitting in a drawer.
It's so frustrating doing just about anything in the secondhand market. I checked market prices for two guitars I was putting up for sale, both in good condition, took $100 off the online price for each one, so about $900 for both (500 for one, 400 for the other). I would probably be willing to sell both for 800 as a package deal if someone offered it. Super reasonable imo. I can't tell you the number of people who, point blank first offer are like, "can you do $550 (total) for both guitars (together)?" Like, what?
Yeah, people really do want something for nothing. I used to have a Kirk Hammett KH202 left-handed guitar ( I once thought I was going to learn to play guitar, no, I’m not left-handed , I just play left-handed.) I think I ended up selling it for like 189 bucks when I decided to get rid of it. I had bought it brand new and maybe played it like three times. It’s so all over the place what instruments hold value.
That sucks man. Ive been to a lot of retro stores and had great experiences at almost all of them. I hate to hear about these kind of bad places. Good on you calling it out.
Same here, there’s a lot of good retro game stores that treat people right . It’s unfortunate the terrible places like this exist and somehow stay in business with that kind of customer service.
Even though I haven't sold a lot of video game products because of the countless horror stories I've heard dealing with incredibly cheap, greedy, and manipulative people - I have enough foresight to cut them off if I detect the slightest inkling that they're going to be difficult. I'm lucky enough that I have a really good friend that helps sell me portions of my collection and I pay him a fee to help me sell it so at least he can get a little bit of profit out of it. I wish game stores would realize that reputation is everything and if enough people have problems with you and your business tactics then your going to lose your business soon enough. You can only get away with a certain of bullshit for too long.
the last game I sold, a guy bought an original copy of Silent Hill from me for $140. case looked great, CD had some minor scratches on it that were common on ps1 discs but it still played fine. he sends me pictures of it with a giant gash in it and demands his money back. I bet he runs this scam on a lot of ps1 games cuz he wouldnt send a video of him flipping the disc over to ensure it was the same one. I didn't back down and he eventually went away.
Never ever do partial refunds if person isn't happy just have them return it. People will pay more intially and claim BS excuse to get a partial refund.
about 17 years ago i bought a pc engine duo r from a well known game import store on ebay, took about a month and when it came it was in a thinly padded bubble mailer envelope! i was new to ebay and was thankful something came at all and i dont remember calling them out but till this day it still pisses me off as they charged like 30.00 for shipping and handling.
I know what you mean, I bought an N64 game once and it got sent in a bubble wrapper and the cartridge was partially cracked. I was new to eBay, and I looked back and should’ve asked for a refund.
Yeah, I knew they sent me at the back the right one. It had very distinguishable features. From what I could tell, they didn’t open it up, but who knows maybe they did.
Shops like that won't change. They are arrogant and double down until the bitter end.
Yeah , they are cooked

People are so scummy.

This store seems like a front for criminal activity.
Anything is possible
Vampire Mike sent me, awesome video but wow these stories are insane
Mike is a good dude! Thank you ! Yeah, I don’t know how some people stay in business or why they act this way, it’s just wild !
When you were about to mention worst story, I knew you were going to mention the Microvision Saga.
It was so horrible. This guy had maybe purchased two things in his entire time on RUclips.
On RUclips? I think you mean eBay?
Yeah, eBay

Reputation is everything, I don’t know how the store is still in business.
Yeah, I've had to do partial refunds and gotten them here or there with small issues. Good on you pal.
Yeah, some of the stuff is just the cost of doing business. I try my best to keep people happy.

I think that’s about what I sold my copy of silent hill on PS1 for. There are some real scumbags out there.
I've been to that store in Erie! I think I bought a few Genesis games there like a decade ago!
I definitely wanna check out that place when I go visit my folks next time.
I've often thought a can of fish in liquid opened to mature for a while..., and then poured in the right place would be a fun game to try. 😜
That’s wild !

I didn’t want it back, it had been sitting there forever.

after they sent you back your ps2 id check the seriel # etc, make sure they didnt swap it out with one of their janky ones or take parts out of yours.

game collector recommends blowing in the cartridge? yikes
