- On 1 January 2024, at 16:10 JST (07:10 UTC), a MJMA7.6 (Mw7.5) earthquake struck 7 km (4.3 mi) north-northwest of Suzu, located on the Noto Peninsula of Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan. The reverse-faulting shock achieved a maximum JMA seismic intensity of Shindo 7 and Modified Mercalli intensity of IX (Violent). The shaking and accompanying tsunami caused extensive damage on the Noto Peninsula, particularly in the towns of Wajima, Suzu and Noto. All 126 fatalities and 210 missing individuals were reported in Ishikawa while over 600 were injured across multiple prefectures, making it the deadliest earthquake in Japan since the 2016 Kumamoto earthquakes.
The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) officially named this earthquake the 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake (Japanese: 令和6年能登半島地震, Hepburn: Reiwa 6-nen Noto-hantō Jishin). It led to Japan's first major tsunami warning since the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake, and a tsunami run-up of 4.2 m (14 ft) was measured along the Sea of Japan coast.

Most Japanese are quite accustomed and adapted to earthquakes. When Japanese people start calling YABAI, it is really a dangerous earthquake.
I'm Japanese, and I completely agree with you.
that's true. when some small happen, we'll just say,EQ came a bit. BUT if it's really big shit, we say Yabai.
In dangerous situations like this earthquake, the correct Japanese word is ”Abunai(あぶない)“, not “Yabai(やばい)“. 😱
I can understand how the words of young Japanese people are spreading to middle-aged people. In this way, a replacement of traditional words may occur. 🍀

😭It was nice to see people working together and protecting others to keep everyone safe. And on New Year's Day, when everyone is meant to gather with family and look forward to the future... Just horrible. ☹
What I want you to know is that ``don't go to the Noto Peninsula'' does not mean ``don't go to Kanazawa.'' Kanazawa is returning to normalcy, and restaurants and souvenir shops have resumed operations. However, when I looked around the city, there were few tourists. Although you need to be careful about aftershocks, going sightseeing in Kanazawa and spending money is also a great way to support the disaster area.
No traffic jams?
Since the peninsula is not very convenient for transportation, it seems that traffic jams are occurring. It appears that traffic regulations have now been eased.@@AnnaMorimoto
I wonder how the old Chayamachi districts and the "Ninja Temple" are doing...
I looked on SNS, but couldn't find any information. It seems like there wasn't that much damage around Kanazawa, so I think the temple will be okay, right? If there is any damage, it will be posted on SNS.@@worldcomicsreview354

yabai, yaba, yabe=Originally, it means"not good'' or "very bad condition.''
Recently, it is also used to express happiness and goodness, but many Japanese people use this expression when they are really serious.
It is an expression with a meaning similar to OMG.
How serious their situation is.
In a way to say “oh sh1t oh sh1i!!! "
@@yasunakaikumiThat's right.
yabay & egui = serious problem
But Japanese often use “Yabai” in affirmative way.
For instance, when something good happens, you can use “yabai” also. In this way Yabai is similar to the usage of”f-ing”
In dangerous situations like this earthquake, the correct Japanese word is ”Abunai(あぶない)“, not “Yabai(やばい)“. 😱

As for the situation in Ishikawa Prefecture, it is possible to go as far as Kanazawa area. However, going further north than that is not recommended. This is because it will hinder rescue efforts. Also, road collapses and landslides are occurring. (Used DeepL)

Thank you for your reply. 😌
Therefore, the attitude of imposing your religion on people of other religions is unnecessary interference with those people of other religions. ☝️
We, the Japanese, have many Japanese gods, and each region enshrines these gods, and the people of each region revere them.
And we follow the teachings of Buddha, respect our ancestors who have passed away, and live reverently and modestly on the land. 🙏
I think your gods that you believe in are important and important to you, but our Japanese gods, the teachings of Buddha, and our deceased ancestors are important to us. ☝️
Even if you say that your religion’s doctrine is superior, if you preach that doctrine to people of other religions who are grieving due to an unexpected disaster, you will not gain any sympathy.
And that’s just for your own self-satisfaction. ☝️
I don’t know if you can understand the true meaning of the following sentence that I will present to you, but I will write it anyway. 😌
“Once upon a time, the king of a certain country asked his queen. ‘Queen, who do you love the most in this world?’
the wise queen answered as follows: ’King, there is no one I love more than myself. What do you think, King?’
King ‘...Certainly, I think so too...’
But the king and queen looked at each other and thought. ‘Is this really the right idea?’ they went to Buddha, expressed their thoughts, and asked him.
Buddha: ‘People have different ideas, but everyone believes that they are the most important thing and love themselves. In the same way, everyone else believes that they are the most important thing and love themselves.
So, don’t bully others, don’t hurt their feelings, don’t kill others, respect others’, he said quietly. ”🙏😌🍀

This earthquake in Ishikawa Prefecture recorded a maximum magnitude of 7.6.
The damage caused by the earthquake was quite severe, probably because the epicenter was shallow.
Over time, the tsunami slowly washed away cars and houses.
If you encounter a major earthquake, seek refuge outdoors and hide as much as possible. *(There is a risk of falling, so it may be necessary to crawl forward in some cases.) There is a risk that the door may become loose and you may become trapped, so it is better to open indoor doors as much as possible after a large tremor.
In any case, please prioritize preparing in advance to ensure your own safety.

4:08 I think this young mother is very impressive for immediately calling her small child and her husband's parents over to her and making every effort to speak in her normal, calm voice as much as possible.
She is very good at trying to speak in her normal, calm voice, "Mother in law, are you hurt? Did anything in the kitchen break? Did anything break? She is talking to her husband's mother in a very gentle voice.
A little girl who quickly evacuated to her young mother's side also asked, "I wonder if it might be a Kotatsu (a traditional large heater developed in Japan, the country with the world's largest snowfall and the second largest snowfall. It is a four-legged table with an electric heater on the back. It has been 600 years since it was invented in Japan.
The tabletop, which is about the same size as a tatami mat, is about 9 or 10 cm thick, and the table legs, which are pillars supporting the four sides, are made to be about 9 cm thick, and are further covered with a fluffy cover as thick as a futon to keep warm air from escaping. Japanese children grow up being taught in disaster drills that if a kotatsu is nearby, they should run into it. (This is a traditional practice in Japan during disasters and is a type of evacuation method to avoid impact from falling objects.) Should I leave it in the Kotatsu?" I am proud of her for checking without crying.
She is a smart and calm girl.
I am sure she remembers and observes what she is taught by adults when her parents or school teachers talk about disaster drills.
