went to a swans concert in Kyiv back in 2016 or so. i'm the kind of person that situates herself right by the damn speakers. at some point i thought i felt blood trickling down my neck out of my left ear. i remember musing that if i were to suffer permanent hearing loss in one ear after that evening, it would have been worth it
Never seen Sunn O))) properly, only solo stuff, but have seen Swans a couple of times (My Father era and To Be Kind era - must admit my views on those albums are the reverse of the usual view!). They are loud, but I'd say Part Chimp is the loudest band I've ever seen. As much felt vibrating through your legs up to the liver as heard! I'd strongly recommend their live shows to anyone into this stuff, easiest in the UK but they do continental Europe sometimes and the US occasionally.
Sunn is loud, but Khanate was louder. I've seen both. I have heard that Swans live is even louder than Khanate which I can't even fathom. Early High on Fire was no joke either.
Another great video, thanks! Wondering if you had heard of Michael Nine’s (as Death Squad) “Intent” performance? Otherwise known as “the gun show”? Nobody was physically harmed. However, I could see it producing some lasting psychological damage.
I remember reading that My Bloody Valentine was one of the loudest bands ever, which was always odd because its dreamy shoegaze. They did hand out earplugs everytime I saw them but I didnt think they were that loud. The loudest show I ever saw was Boris at The Echoplex. I think it was a mix of loud and the small low ceiling cave like club we were in, but as soon as they strummed that first chord I felt it in my chest and bones. Holy crap it was awesome.
A friend of mine's mother was a low to mid level famous rock photographer, anyway she invited The Boredoms to here home, needless to say, Yamantaka Eye destroyed everything in her living room. Another friend of mine's daughter did an unreleased duet with Merle Allin when she was 12. I never thought of myself as dangerous, but I'm clearly danger adjacent. Awesome stuff, fella.
I think sunn o))) usually would do their soundchecks on vol 8 or so, and when the concert started they would crank it up to 11 to be extra loud. also Merzbows Venereology actually measures the loudest track ever put on a cd, being at the maximum of the american limitation for dynamic range. 7:10 well Dead from Mayhem would constantly cut himself on stage. there's even footage of it on youtube (altough very bad quality lol, they played in extra dark rooms back then) but yeah, Shining sounds a bit more extreme lol. GG Allin definately belongs on this list lol. Hanatarash once did a concert with a 1000000yen entrance fee, so nobody was present lol. Also the molotov incident that almost happened also was the same concert as the famous bulldozer event lol. you had to sign a waver stating that you will be in danger when going to one of their life performances. also fun to mention, he once strapped a table saw to his legs, almost amputating his leg and he once cut open an (already) dead cat he found somewhere in the trash at a concert. He described the moment as a very etherial experience, and he felt really connected to the soul of the cat. My favourite danger music performance is still by Geoffrey Gartner, Danger Music #17 by Dick Higgins. 18:10 this just looks amazing I think it would also be interesting to look into the music of furutismn. The intonarumori was actually built to create sounds of cars and industrial visions of the future. it was supposed to give the feel of a future city. Not inherently dangerous, but the people who first saw those in the late 18hundrets were pretty shocked by it.
although not really "dangerous" i do wanna highlight the flaming lips' zaireeka album and its track "how will we know? (futuristic crashendos)" now the whole point of the album is that you have 4 stems of the entire album separated into 4 CDs and you have to put them in 4 separate CD players at the exact same time at a very high volume the track in question has a dangerously high frequency ringing that plays throughout its nearly entire runtime, causing the album to have a frequency warning on the very front cover 💀
Love the video, glad to see Hanatarash getting some recognition, as well as some of Dick Higgins works. Also, This video went from Musical Essay to weapons explanation, and back to musical Essay; really quickly
I wonder what the current most dangerous live act is. I've seen mayhem live and was within arm range of the band the whole show, most dangerous thing that happened was my intense tinnitus episode for the rest of that weekend. It seems like true honest dangerous shows faded out in the mid 90s. Not counting moshing as that's a nearly universally crowd-only form of danger.
The closest thing I can think of that fits the bill is Merzbow's "Pulse Demon" album. I have to nearly mute whatever listening device I'm using so it doesn't blow my brains out!
The loudest band I saw was Sunn o))). I thought the venue would crumble on our head. I'm pretty sure more people got injured at GG Allin concerts than at Hanatarash shows.
I love that you explored this entirely through an objective lens, rather than a subjective one. Because I think we all know that subjectively, music can be extremely dangerous. Neo Nazi's have been using music for years.
So what about music that causes psychological damage? Music that isn't loud or physically dangerous but the lyrics squirm into your mind somehow and disturb your mental equilibrium. Every one has heard of Gloomy Sunday driving people to suicide but how about music like Hamburger Lady, Frankie Teardrop or Mary Turner Mary Turner?
Yeah...they called jazz dangerous because it was made by black people. It's pretty cut and dry. Even back then you couldn't just spell that out though.
Michael Jackson released a whole LP of music called "Dangerous."
I've never listened to it though. I'm too scared.
He also released the LP "Bad", but I didn't want to be influenced.
O maaaaaaan, you guys STINK! Just kidding, had to make a Spongebob qoute, or my head will start hurting. These comments are hilarious!
I saw the title and was like "There is no way GG isn't talked about for at least 5 minutes".
“Symphony no. 1 for Doomsday Device” is a pristine title, you should be proud of that
I love the takanaka music in the background! So inappropriate for the video 😂
Hanatarash was more of a 'last one standing wins' kind of melee-show experience.
Sunn O))) concerts are pretty damn loud
also swans, if you're one of THOSE people
What do you mean when you refer to Swans?

was front row to swans recently, was not disappointed, only unable to hear for 3 days

@@jezo-matic991 I've seen The Oh Sees/Osees so many times and it never gets old. Theyve definitely damaged my ears too lol

pls make a video about the goslings, theyre my 2nd favourite band of all time (to the gerogeri)
Very funny to hear some Masayoshi Takanaka around the 13 minute mark
I’m glad someone else picked up on it.

Yung Werther (Ogun’s song) by Joni Void has a LRAD being used as an instrument
Jazz is one of the most rhytmical music genres you know if you are not moving or don't want to move when listening to jazz idk who you are
The mad man did it again
this video gets so delightfully unhinged
I’d like to mention Gulaggh
I'd second this.
Why the hell does this only have 4,500 views? This man should have tens of thousands of subs.
Shining has some of the best musicians in modern day metal

Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring premier led to rioting by the outraged audience.
The most dangerous concert ever
Another interesting video, keep up the good work

Dinosaur Jr should've been on that "loudest" part.

In Europe there's a lot of songs you can be sentenced to prison up to decades if you sing them or play them publicly.
If GG Allin isnt art, idk what is
I thought I'd see G.I.S.M. mentioned but a lot of the stuff is what Hanatarash did too, actually.
P.S. Do you know about the ''my way'' killings in the Philippines?
Great video! Kinda disappointed My Way didn't get a section though. Lavender Town would've also been a cool mention, fake as it is.
Sinatra's My Way has a few bodies on it - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Way_killings
How have a I never seen your channel before? OOOO MAN!
your videos are so good
Music is not danger ,people are

Great work, Do a video about Throbbing Gristle
That's a good idea. I'll get on it

20:32 sooo…. the earrapenator?
Metallica live in Moscow (1991) had people getting beaten up by millitary personnel during the performance so there's that
love
fuckin genuis
Dangerous music doesn't exist.
*goes to Knocked Loose show*

Dude that's not a bulldozer, the correct term is an excavator
