The Drawf wives are literally described as having beards such that outsiders cannot distinguish them from the husbands. Like, this is exactly what was missing!!! Long flowing locks and braids and curls and gold clasps and garlands. No one cares if its uncomfortable, its for the aesthetic ✨
My husband bought a pirate wig that came with a beard and moustache wig. That day I discovered that I look almost exactly like my uncle.
I hope you sent him a photo lmao 😂
Oh gollie I have a story like this. I was making a video call with my friend and was messing with the filters jokingly tried the mustache filter.
I (a woman) look an exact copy of my dad with the filter 😂
Don’t worry Bernadette, the weirdest thing you’ve ever done will forever be the time you got drunk by inhaling Victorian shampoo. Your channel brings me so much joy.
SO. much. joy.
I think a Dwarf lady would have a beard with braids. Lots of braids in various widths, pinned into curls and loops with lots of charms and cuffs and different color threads in it to make it look spectacular.
Well for us guys the mustache grows down or out the sides not so much a solid rope of hair 😂
Yes, Yes , and YES!! 👏
That would look so fantastical!💛

I assure you, as a mustache wearer, it never gets easier. When I had my longest mustache( 3-4"), I developed a kind of tick where I would be constantly twirling my mustache to keep it out of my mouth. I must have looked like a total villain. 🤣
I'm gonna pretend your questions were actually requiring answers and say: yes, after a meal, I clean both my hands AND my beard, and I tend to obsessively wipe my moustache if I eat something messy. You're welcome for that knowledge you didn't know you didn't need 😄 (and also thanks for this content!)
I find that I'm very subconscious when eating things like spaghetti. I tend to keep my mustache trimmed because of that very thing.
Bernadette looking SHOCKINGLY modern in her ad today.

@@DannyBanner there is one bearded lady dwarf in the second season of the Witcher. 😅
If your sibling cannot talk you into shenanigans, who can? I am definitely HERE for the lady dwarf beard antics. Saw a coupe of women cosplay lady dwarves at an event a few years ago and they did their beards with crepe hair and spirit gum. They were very fetching with their really lovely geometric designs on their gowns and braids in their beards decorated with gold and silver beads.

This was a fantastic bit of whimsy and humor in the middle of a long holiday weekend, thank you for posting and thank you Dani for enabling it!
We can breathe through our moustaches because they are attached, and don't fall into our mouths.
But what about long moustaches? How much moustache wax is necessary to style them away from the mouth so u can eat without a curtain of frizzy hair in front?
This comment is rather hilarious, if you read it without the context of having first watched the video 😅
@@animemangalover94 I use barely any product on mine and it has reached a length where I can brush it off to the side and it stays there. I personally have almost no problems with beard in my mouth except for the occasional stray hair that has just fallen out, exactly like 'normal' hair.
This experience is different for every beard bearer though, as beard hair is as diverse in shape and feel as 'normal' hair, if not more.
My facial hair, like my head hair is untamable, and I keep my moustache trimmed (less it falls into my mouth). Yes, the beard does catch odd pieces of food, which is why napkins and washing after meals is paramount.
@@animemangalover94 For me its not the mustache that tries to get into the mouth much when I don't bother to trim for ages, those hairs stick out and more parallel to the mouth naturally. It is the beard hairs from up nearer the ears/cheek that curls into the mouth most and gets me to finally trim the beard in annoyance most of the time. And compared to shaving every damn day so your face feels like course sandpaper much of the time as the pesky stuff grows back so fast, a beard is no contest massively less annoying.
I made a Gimli costume years ago and gave myself a lovely beard with my head hair. Having big curly hair really helped but it was definitely a rough and ready sort of beard. Very on the road to Mordor chic
Me too! Though, I have very loose curls, sometimes wavy

✨TOTALLY WORTH IT✨
As someone who has watched every minute of behind the scenes content on both LOTR and The Hobbit potentially more than I’ve watched the actual films, as well as in the study of theatrical costuming and hair/wig styling, I feel especially tuned to answer your question: I never saw dwarves with beards in curlers, though I occasionally saw a wig clipped up. I don’t think having a perfectly quaffed and curled beard is as important to dwarves as the shiny bits, which are often family heirlooms. On the other hand, the elves, whose hair somehow always hangs in a gloriously straight and glistening sheet down their back, you could often see was often in a stocking prior to shooting beginning. Orlando Bloom iconically would ponytail his wig and wear a bandanna on top. Haute Elvish couture.
I love the juxtaposition of Burnadette's serious skill and romantic image combined with the childish and comical acts...I hope this continues.
All of the dwarves in Terry Pratchett's discworld books have beards. Those dwarves in the video have marvellous costumes etc, but they're really missing the beards!
I am dying to know how much you giggled whilst photoshopping hair curlers into Gimli’s beard because I must say there was plenty on my end seeing it
Now we need a behind the scenes video that's literally just Dani laughing their ass off while editing this. xD
Yes, I DO wonder if Dani has a birthday coming up, so this is Bernadette's "present" !
Also, I am hoping they come out with a tarot deck from the "House of Banner" as that photo of Dani was EPIC ! It would naturally feature many Guinea Pigs in Court dress......
@@m.maclellan7147 If that deck ever came into existence I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
As someone, who has braided at least 3 hairbeards myself (at a company party 😂), I recommend you make the mustache by braiding two pieces of hair through eachother. That keeps the pieces in place, AND makes them fall down more like a real mustache. I wore my beard for a couple of hours and I loved it 🧔❤️
omg your pfp is perfect!!! XD
I, too, have done this several times. I was so excited to see her version, but also so wanted to give tips all throughout.
I imagine that beards changed depending on what was in fashion, so one season plates/braids were fashionable and next season it was curled. Future generations of dwarves could date a painting by how a beard was styled. “That’s so second age”! Gimli said.
Bernadette, you have no idea how amusing this was. Thank you for the much needed whimsy. Love the curls!
Beard hair is also naturally pretty curly for most people, mine requires a fair bit of oil and in hair conditioner to not just fully frizz up
Most people, indeed. Though I have known some older gents with the SILKIEST of beard hair and it is absolutely majestic.
@@OdinsSage my dad knew a guy who's beard was apparently silky and smooth like hair.
I didn't know that, thank you for sharing!
I betcha anything those older gents with the silky beards are using so much product it would make your beard curl!
Mine has a probably considered loose curl. but i've got every thing going on in by beard, super tight curls to completely straight in the goatee, dark brown and blond with a few stray red, white and black hairs.
I love how Bernadette is the perfect conjunction of memes and aesthetic historical clothing content.
Me: "Comedy option, just staple it to your lip."
Bernadette: [hairspray directly in the face]
Me: "Okay, that was probably funnier than my idea."
Maybe she's born with it? Maybe it's Moria! I can't help but think that Dani wheedled you into this bit of tomfoolery because they have SHORT hair and knew it couldn't be done by them. 🤣
This origin story makes absolute sense.
I can definitely see them being frustrated because they can't do it and then going like hold on a second... I have a sister. With conveniently long, luscious hair. Bernadee-ette?? I have an idea for you... 😂
5:36 "If you eat something doesn't it get all up in the beard?"
As a wife of a beard-bearer, I can attest that they don't call beards and mustaches "soup-catchers" for nothing. I am CONSTANTLY finding crumbs in my husband's beard and mustache and it quickly becomes a detective story about what he ate to create such mess.
I have used the terms "flavor savers" and "soup strainers" before. I will have to add "soup-catchers" to the list.
Have you seen the Victorian mustache cups? They're amazing.

She is beauty, she is grace, she has hair all over her face.

Dani, keep the 'good' ideas coming, and good job on the editing ( I would still be laughing...).
My younger brothers are now adults with their own naturally grown beards - but when they were much younger my dad would take clippings from his own beard, and apply they with rubber cement.
A dark brown goatee on a ten year old blond biy was hilarious, but fun.
My son started growing a mustache at 10 😮😅
Amazing! Thanks for rectifying such a disservice!! When Lord of the Rings came out and Gimli said that their females had beards and were almost indistinguishable from the men, I loved it! And I did the same thing, but I loosely French braided my hair and then flipped it over my head and crossed hair for my stache too🤗
This was wonderfully entertaining. And I hope beards for lady dwarves happen going forward. Cannot say I have a favorite dwarf beard style sadly but I think they should all sport beard jewelry.
This made me really want to see more feminine beard styles on dwarves, cosplayed or otherwise.
So I'm a chronic pain patient, currently stuck awake at like 2:30am with painsomnia (severe pain preventing sleep) and omg, this was exactly the content I needed, rn 🤣💖 In my pain-addled and sleep-deprived state, I can't quite articulate how or why, but my entire mental state has significantly improved since watching, haha. Tysm for posting this wonderfully random-ass video, you absolute legend 😁💖
I have a friend who grew out his beard for a while. One day he shaved and I asked why. His answer was "my food started tasting like my beard." That was the most honest statement I have heard.
I made myself a beard on a plastic grid thing for a party once. I pushed yarn the colour of my real hair piece by piece through it after cutting the grid to my face, it's ended up looking really good. I highly recommend having a detachable beard in your house that suits and fits you.
Thank you for this inspiration 🌈⭐️💜 ladybeards rule.
Yes. When I was a kid I made a Gandalf beard in this same method, I used plastic gutter mesh. Many years later I made another one in brown, never know when you need a detachable beard, speaking as a bearded dude aha.
Everything about this video was 100% worth it. I can't even pick a favorite, but highlights include the mustache frustration, the curlers, and the "typing in gloves is difficult" bit. The things we do for our sibs. =D
Terry Pratchett's dwarves would be proud as well! Well done!
@@topogigio7031 Yes, I know Tolkien wrote the Legendarium, and I've read most of his work. I'm referring to Terry Pratchett's dwarves in Discworld, where the women are literally indistinguishable from the men, and even when they choose to express their femininity, they still keep the beards because they're dwarves for goodness sake! Also, people poke fun at things they like and are popular. That was Pratchett's whole thing, he loved the fantasy genre, particularly that of Tolkien, so he lovingly jabbed at it. @@MrsBrit1 oh thats cool! i am short of hair and young of age so i' guess i've missed most of those. I did mean in mainstream fantasy shows though!
beard hair is a different texture to your straight shiny hair. Crimping would probably be the closest and allow you to use less hair as it appears fuller, and then adding a texturizer would probably help with the manageability of the whole process. Although maybe female dwarves have soft silky beards?
I doubt thats the case. Hair texture has nothing to do with biological sex in humans and i dont see why in dwarves it would be different.
@@edwardhisse2687 they're dwarves. THey are smth like 10x their weight:mass ratio. We don't know what's different about including their females growing beards(as a normal thing).
If you go by the Markus Heitz version of dwarves, it's described more like longer, densely packed body hair, or "wispy down", as is repeatedly said by the main character. As far as Tolkein goes, I don't know of any descriptive examples of any dwarves' beard qualities, let alone specifically the female dwarves
I'm glad you brought this up. I too was surprised that the lady dwarves lacked beards in the show.
If you look at the promo pictures you can see that they do have a bit of beard, it's just that it's so little you barely can see it, which was probably a choice made to cater to our beauty standards, which sadly don't include beards on women

As a women with beard hair growing beneath my chin, I really like the representation of beards for women, even if that exists only in fantasy.
Truth of the matter is that pretty much everyone has some kind of hair on their face, if only the peach fuzz kind. The sooner society learns to just accept visible facial hair on anyone it grows on the better.
The problem with mine is I get one hair on one side, then another on the other side…I’ll have two or four just straggly bits that look funny, so I pull them out.

As an afab non-binary person who wises they could grow the most luscious of facial locks the lack of heavily bearded female dwarves in media is always disappointing. So thank you and your sibling for bringing us the content I have always wanted 🤣
Bur seriously though, the moment you put on the purple grapes you gave strong Blackbeard from OFMD vibes and I love it. This was an amazing topic to take on, and kudos for you doing it and taking back what rightfully belongs to us true Tolkien fans. My thought was when you had the mustache part in place, instead of trying to knot the beard in front, tucking the hair behind the mustache and using that to hold the beard into place although I recognize that would add strain on the mustache, but maybe it would work better to cover up the chin and just under the lips.
