The Story of Warcraft pre-WoW | Part 01 | Warcraft I: Orcs & Humans
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 9 янв 2013
- NOTE: You can now watch this video with updated graphics here: • Warcraft: Episode I: O...
This video contains the cinematics and briefings from the original Warcraft game, "Warcraft: Orcs and Humans" (1994), developed by Blizzard Entertainement. This version (unlike my previous video) also has soundtrack music added, so that watching half an hour of briefings will hopefully feel a little more exciting.
The contents are:
01 - Map of the world back then (Kingdom of Azeroth and Orcish territories in this world)
02 - Intro cinematic (00:59)
03 - The briefings from the Human missions and the Human finale (02:21)
04 - The briefings from the Orc missions and the Orc finale (12:42)
05 - Game credits (with orc background) (22:53)
Note 1: Even though the game menu buttons feature the orc campaign first, having them at the end makes more sense in regard to the story as a whole (they are the ones who actually win from a lore perspective).
Note 2: The game had no cinematic sequences like they had, for example, in Warcraft III, so the story was basically told solely in the mission briefings. Also, the two storylines for the different races were not part of a single arc and therefore the game had two possible outcomes: victory for either race you've chosen to play. The main events retained in the current official Warcraft lore are the death of King Llane, the orcish victory in the Kingdom of Azeroth and the human survivors' retreat towards the northern kingdoms (the later not shown in this game, but in the sequel).
Note 3: Also, part of the game's story is told in the game's manual, which you can find here: www.wowpedia.org/Azeroth_Army_... (there are 5 webpages in total, which you can navigate through using the menu at the end).
Note 4: This is not the original resolution of the game. I up-scaled it to bring it in line with the rest of this series and to be able to stick all of them back to back. If you dislike this, try watching my older video of this game.

Crazy to think that 22 years later, there would be a movie narrating (in a new way and with a lot of differences) what we see in this old 1994 game.
What's really crazy is all these "no spoilers" reviews xD
warcraft 3 has major spoilers
I enjoyed the new Warcraft. It had its faults.
I wish it was more like the Metzen drawings I loved as a kid. I wish it had retained more true to the much darker, simplistic elements of the first two games allowing the sequel to evolve into the more fantastic and visually different Warcraft 3.
But I enjoyed the movie. When I saw it. It could have been SOOOO much worse. When I saw Grom, I cheered.
Garona being treacherous fit the bill so much more, they painted her as her half human side giving her empathy etc, but have you seen humans in wartime? far from noble really.
@@ProffessorYellow She was half orc half Draenei. Not half human.

For people wondering , you play as Orgrim Doomhammer on this game on orc side .
Cool. I never knew that. But it was many years since I broke out the cd to play the game :P
Most of the story in this game was retconned in wc2.
In this game the Shadow council engineered his assassination.
In wc2 Doomhammer acted alone and Guldan had to feign allegiance to him after the fact.
Wc1 also goes back on itself in the story, saying Garona killed Llane (canon) but then saying you killed him and threw him into a moat at stormwind (non-canon).
Basically, put your Doomhammer boner away.
(source: wc2 handbook)
@@hamishgiec2062 The human ending is canon, as it is in the second game as well.
@@oneblacksun no the orc ending in warcraft 1 is canon as it is the destruction of stormwind and defeat od the kingdom of stromguard upon which the horde moves across the sea to fight loardoran and the alliance
Your sound card works perfectly!
one of the great lines from warcraft lol
Enjoying yourself?
It doesn't get any better than this!
I like how they did a Conan thing with the Human ending. "That is a story for another time", indeed.

Shannon and her white chocolate grapes is the real MVP here, carrying the entire Blizzard team through the development of the game.
Huh, it took me a minute after the intro section to realize it said "world of warcraft" but that the game was just called Warcraft at that point. Funny how that later became the name of the MMO.
Was going through old CDs and found this game in the pile. I think it may've been my dads back then but I think I may start getting into this :D.
So, did you? :)

cherish that old cd! To last this long without getting abused and scratched up in a miracle! I know your comment is 8 years old, but hopefully to this it still works :)
I remember playing this game as a kid it was good times, as cool as the humans were I loved the orcs the way they talked was awesome
Don't forget the warlocks, necrolyte, skeleton and daemon units. They made you feel like you were leading a horde of evil badass demon worshipers who slaughtered everything in there path.
Even Lothar hates Deadmines!
This maybe just me being slow, but I've only just noticed that the 3D maps of Azeroth are different between the orc and human sides. For instances, the orc one does not feature Medhiv's tower. I had always assumed them to be identical, and in many places they do line up, but it's cool they went to the extra effort; especially as, according to bill Roper, the whole story, mission briefings, and accompanying dialogue were produced over a single weekend very close to release - they were amongst the last features to be added and weren't intended to be there until Bill pushed for it as an additional appealing aspect for some players. Without him, this whole video's content wouldn't exist.
"Welcome to the world of Warcraft"
World of Warcraft has now been around for a longer time than the series existed before its release.

WTF old games were so epic. Where did this Blizzard go
Thank you for this video man
1994 and Blizzard is making awesome cutscenes. This studio will always be fantastic.
After see *StarCraft 2* videos it make me realize that *Blizzard* could continue with the *Warcraft series*. I would love to see *Warcraft 1* and *2* and all their cut-scenes and cinematic get a HD touch/remake, to match their current cinematic, and the growing trend of HD remasters brings some of the best classic gaming titles back to life. Publishers get to re-release proven titles and fans get to relive some of their favorites and for new one to experience them. A great HD remaster is a win-win for everyone and of course making a remaster/remake isn't easy though.
Developers have to improve on aspects of the original titles, while keeping the timing, animation, and spirit that players remember but they could also had new things that they couldn't had before because the limitation back then. It requires programming and design effort and in some ways, a remaster/remake can be as difficult as making an original title but not impossible, I mean if a group of fans could remake *Resident Evil 2* what is stopping Blizzard to remake/remaster Warcraft 1 and 2?
They already made a movie. Although it would've been great for an HD remake. But Blizzard isn't going to do that.
CovertBrony I was speaking about game not the movie so do not bring something that has nothing to do with the post.
linkzellda Like i have said about the remastered of the game. It is most likely ain't going to happen because of "Blizzard's choices".
I am aware of what you have said. Also it does have the same shared topic of "Blizzard". I don't blame you for wishing a remake of the game. But we have to face it. It is more than likely not going to happen. Because of them focusing on WoW.
CovertBrony Let face it that probably will happen since WOW is reaching to its end and you can't predict the future so stop acting you know.
linkzellda I am not trying to "predict the future". It was an opinion. Although i would be gladly to be wrong about the "HD remake".
I am not trying to argue or to prove who is right. I am hoping what you have said would be the case.
I played this with no sound due to my Windows 3.0 era computer. The game took up half of the HD space.
I love how blizzard actually respected almost everything of the original map from 1994 to the actual wow map: see it here en.maps.dadesign.ru/azeroth/

I love the Conan the Barbarian reference.
WC1 to WC 2 = Orcs vs Humans
WC3 = Everyone vs Burning Legion
WoW- WotLK = Everyone vs Scourge
WoW:Cata = Everyone vs Deathwing
WoW: MoP = Everyone vs Orcish Horde
WoW:WoD = Everyone vs Iron Horde?
more like "Everyone vs Everyone vs [big bad guy, e.g. Deathwing, Lich King, . . .]" I couldn't STAND constantly getting ganked. . .
I wonder what happens when :''Everyone vs Night Elves''
last exp gonna be everyone vs sargeras .
WoW:Legion = Everyone vs Burning Legion....again
yeah, sadly it went a bit to shit with WoW, but before that, Warcraft lore was amazing :)
So wait, Lothar wiped the Deadmines? Really?? THE Lothar couldn't clear a level 15 dungeon?
'Levels' don't exist in the lore.. for obvious (apparently not) reasons.

Who do you play as the human commander in WC1? I got the game since it came out but haven't figured it out lorewise.
Not clear, but definitely not Lothar, since he is referred to in third person.
@@ScrotusMaximus69 You save Lothar from ogres in the Deadmines
Very true, never played Warcraft 1-2, but I love Warcraft 3, especially night-elf campaign.

The only Warcraft I played to the finish (both campaigns).
Those fucking steaks are hard as fuck, they're chewing it like the mofo.
When I watched this in the theater... I remember the graphics being a lot better, lol
After watching the movie, I was curious of the Warcraft Orcs and Humans story. So I tried playing the game, but I really suck at it, that's why I came here after that.
Regarding the movie, I loved it, but it seems the story was a bit off from what the original was. Any opinions?
it's a completle new story regarding the games
They had to condense a lot of stuff and change things up to be more dramatic.
I missed seeing Clerics heal soldiers and Necrolytes raising skeletons, but the movie had to largely ignore that sort of stuff to prevent it from being more confusing and bewildering than it already was.
That said, I enjoyed the film. It had plenty of references to elements in the games (well done ones at that) and I mostly wasn't bothered about the lore changes, because for the most part, the changes made the story and the film more enjoyable.
Also the movie Orcs felt more akin to the classic Warcraft 1 and Warcraft 2 Orcs than the Warcraft 3 - and onward Orcs, which was a massive plus in my book. The movie Orcs were badass, including the nicer ones :)
So you're Turalyon in Human campaign and Ogrim doomhammer in Orc Campaign
Turalyon didn't lead during the first war. He became a lieutenant in the Second war
Edwin Hanks Who then are you during the human campaign? A nameless nobody? Apparently the lore from the human side in this game isn't accurate.
Tim Stone
Nameless, yes. Probably a knight from Lothar's brotherhood (Stormwind's order of knights). For example, someone like Gavinrad the Dire is a possibility (he was a knight of Stormwind and Lothar trusted him enough to recommend him to become a paladin, plus he was greybearded by the time of War3, so his age sort of fits too).
Hmm. Makes perfect sense, though I confess I haven't fine much research into it. But I accept that, and if you are indeed a nameless night in the human campaign , and Doomhammer for the orcs...to quote Metallica, "nothing else matters."
Keep up the good work. Cheers.
the human side obviously isn't canon. It can't be because in Warcraft 2, blackrock spire is still there and Stormwind is still destroyed.
Duncan Jones' finest work.
God I miss this writing.
Very nostalgic and I'm wondering if it's available on the consoles like a PlayStation 2. In current terms of the warcraft Universe I would have gone Humans & Alliance with Night Elves > Orcs & Horde with the humanoid cow🐂🐄🐮 race the Tauren
Is there a book (any kind) or any form of media that tells the full story of wacraft starting from wc1?? This is awesome but I feel it lacks storytelling.
The text crawl has a voice over? I'm currently playing this game on DosBox and it has defnitely not there.
I had a version with the voice over but no music (also DosBox), the music is added manually. I'm sure you can find it on the internet somewhere.
Dont play Pirated Games would help to not have this issues :P Look on my gameplay anything is fine musicand voice over was always a thing in this game. There a not different Versions of it.

Whos here after watching Warcraft Movie!?
to anyone curious or doubtful this was ever supposed to originally be a warhammer game, look at the map and look at the far left of it, Star of Chaos baby!
That's a cool catch! Can't believe I've missed it all these years.
So true.
2:09 Humans
12:46 Orcs
Anyone can explain me this?
1) On the Orc Campaign we play as Orgrimm and killed the Blackhand. But how we arrived at the Humans Land?
2) Through the dark portal right? Blackhand was being manipulated by Gul'Dan to cross the Portal and arrive on the Humans Land.
3) Why on the Human Campaign they show as the Humans were victorious since the Orcs putted the whole Stormwind down?
4) Warcraft 1 was just related to the First War? Or just a part of it?
Thanks. BTW awesome video.
+Fa A The first two games had alternate campaigns, not sequential (like in Warcraft III), the winning faction was always the one that you played. The human ending in Warcraft I was deemed unofficial retroactively (upon the launch of Warcraft II). And yes, Warcraft I is just the first war (Horde vs. Kingdom of Azeroth, no Alliance exists yet).
+Scrotus Maximus Exacly this
The first linear campaign "episode-after-episode" wasn't there in Blizzard games until StarCraft in 1998 - Terran, Zerg and Protoss episodes were put in chronological order for the first time ever. Although Beyond the Dark Portal Alliance and Horde campaigns were quite consistent and connected with each other and had similar events overlapping, these two additional episodes weren't that chronological (though Ner'Zhul campaign began before Khadgar campaign)
If I had to point out, Goldshire (in wow:MOP) back then is STILL looking good xD. also same place, different time! just notice it from 00:05 - 00:55
Warcraft 2 is probably only game that assumes the evil victory in its predecesor game... also anyone noticed orc campaign doesnt mention Medivh ?
Hey man you okay? you hit your head pretty hard back there on that half pipe dude...
What? Dranei? Naruu? The Shadow Lands? dude what are you talking about? Anyway, let's get going or we're gonna miss Billy playing Chapter 12 of the Human Campaign, I can't wait to see what happens
They don't make games like this anymore. I miss simple storylines that didn't care whether they were cheesy or not.
Although I already read the Warcraft 1 story many times, watching this video refreshes my memory again. I don't like some of the changes they made in the movie. I can accept more details on the events that occured, but I don't understand why they would make changes to the events that defined the characters :(
because of the already screwed up canon of the first two games compared to Warcraft 3, The books, and WoW are already vastly different in terms of order of events, I remember has a kid beating warcraft 3, surely they didn't make Medivh evil in the movie, right?
I think the order of events are still the same, just that they added more fluff or details in the events in the books. About Medivh, depends on how you view evil, I can tell you the reason behind his betrayal is similar to how he is portrayed in the books.
Seecondchance Haven't see the movie yet, though I have been playing through a very loyal remake of Warcraft ii in Warcraft 3's engine lately. Sound Effects, combat at sea and Everything. Still can't device rather i like it or simply want to blaze through the original second game itself, now that I know it too has Hero characters I can edit the game with to make the later levels less difficult! Since I know they obviously plan on covering the origin of the orcs coming from the dark portal storyline in a future sequel, just like W2's expansion, unless that too made it to the beginning of the movie somewhere?
No, the movie did not cover any plot in Warcraft 2. In fact it did not cover the whole Warcraft 1 plot, but it does show the Orcs going through the Dark Portal and the world of Draenor briefly, as shown in the trailers.
Regardless, go ahead and play the Warcraft 2 campaign. The first movie is very fast-paced so I imagine the second movie will be too since it has to clutter even more plot points in a single movie, so it's better that you watch the movie while execpting certain events to happen rather than learning the plot again from the movie.
"surely the didn't make Medivh evil in the movie"
They did, because lore-wise that was correct. Medivh was corrupted by Sargeras and only became the good man we saw in Warcraft III after being "killed" by Khadgar and Lothar during the events of WC1, or, more specifically, the novel The Last Guardian.
How can I carry the game on my computer?
DosBox (easiest) or some other emulator.
so oldd ^^ who would play this now
A lot of people still do.
i can't play this sorry :p

Is it ok if I laughed so hard when the orc voice told me to kill Griselda
Graphics are old but god they look epic :D
its unbelievable to think games have evolved so much and so drastically in only 2 decades
I'm trying to play the classics from the beginning. Warcraft, Starcraft, Resident Evil, Final Fantasy, Mario, Zelda, Castlevania, Mega Man. This depends on how old you are of course (Mass effect, Darksouls, and Metal Gear Solid, don't count as _classics_ in my arbitrary opinion) but of the named series, only Warcraft and Final Fantasy have me resorting to RUclips. After *truely trying* , of those series listed, Warcraft and Final Fantasy don't get legit playable till at least their sequels. If it matters to anyone while judging this comment, I am 25 years old as of posting.

so which ending actually happened, the orc ending or the human one?
+micheal josephson Orcish one is canon in Warcraft I - here, and Human one in Warcraft II.
+ThyFacelessOne thank you!
micheal josephson The entire Warcraft Universe is vast, and there is detailed information about it on the net, you can read a lot.
Yeah, Im playing wow right now as a matter of fact lol
+micheal josephson Orc ending and Orc campaign is canon. However many events from Human campaign are canon as well, like Lothars search for Tome of Divinity in Deadmines, Medivh death in Karazhan and Garona's assassination of King Llane. So it cannot be discarded completely.
And many retcons had been made even in WarCraft II, read The History of Orcish Ascension and A Brief History of the Fall of Azeroth from Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness manual here: wow.gamepedia.com/Warcraft_II:_Tides_of_Darkness_manual

Warcraft 3 had pandas... it was in the lore before Kung Fu panda.
it was just a pandaren brewmaster in a bonus campaign, not a whole race.

Wasn't the Orc campaign supposed to be the first?
They take place simultaneously.
actually, even if in the game the orc campaing is shown first, lore wise, orcs win in the first war, so it should be played in second place
the orc/human campaign offer alternative endings as far as i know. Lore-wise orcs won
The Orc campaign is the precursor to the WC2 storyline
