Listening to this masterpiece once again, I find that you cannot use "prior year" or periods of time to define the music of the Yellowjackets. This music is infinite, it does not matter when it was created, performed, recorded or even re-recorded. It is just simply beautiful music. One cannot limit this type of music to our planet Earth only!
The original version of this track from the Yellowjacket's outstanding 'like a river' recording is one of the most beautiful pieces on the entire album and when you add the enchanting vocals of Luciana Souza, magical things happen. Words cannot describe how well this marriage matches up, it truly is a match made in music heaven.
@@michaeld.nichols2552 I so much miss Jimmy Haslip. I'm learning to appreciate Dale Alderson. The blood of Yellowjackets is beginning to flow in his veins.
"Solitude" obviously means 'the state or situation of being alone, loneliness.' Well, I know what that is. Nonetheless, I would like to know what the lyrics mean, this is certainly an incredible, beautifully performed piece by the YellowJackets, as always! Bravo Luciana, Russ, Bob, Will and Dane! Simply beautiful.
Yes. Being alone for me is understanding who I am. It also has to do with others, trying to understand and respect who they are. Perhaps we're not home here. Perhaps there is something more. Jazz rendered like this brings a glimpse of home. I enjoy your comment.
As an instrumental piece is absolutely some of the finest material by genius Ferrante. The added voice is a nice experimentation. Contrived. Once she is given some freedom and is able to weave through this harmony I imagine that beautiful things will come out of it. Would love to hear them LIVE in this way just described.
Beautiful changes and lovely contour to the instrumental melody. I miss that nice contour and rhythmic variety in the vocal melody. What a musical and sensitive bass solo. And what can you say about Mintzer's artistry that hasn't already been said. Interesting how the band has changed musically over the years. There are a lot more venturesome harmonies and time signatures as the band moves in a more straight ahead/ new school direction rather than the fusion style they were initially known for.
Practicing with this tune, I learn that what the sheet music says, it means. Be there, be on time, have it right, each musician in total concentration. Being self-taught, I can only get these lessons where I find them. One look at Will Kennedy and it's apparent that he lets himself fall totally into the demands of the tune. Luciana Souza, vocalist, wow. And, to the person who wants to know the lyrics, me too.
And William Kennedy, drums. Notice how quiet. So tasteful. Hits things a little here and a little there. At the right times. Not hitting everything all the time. That's a drummer.
always good to see mr mondesir
sensacional
in all honesty, the Sims brought me here. More appreciation for the jazz musicians that defined early video game music, please.

A great piece which highlights each musician in their "solitude".
Another one of Ferrante's beautiful compositions. Loved this tune since it was featured in Like A River back in 1993.
Feast for the ears
Woow, what a beatiful piece..

I tried to make an excuse not to like this because of the absence of Jimmy Haslip but it’s sounds great.
Falou exatamente o que pensei. Luciana Souza perfeita pra essa versão.
What are some of the words?

@@michaeld.nichols2552 Yep, understand. I have to let Jimmy go, though it's tough. I'm also learning to appreciate Dale Alderson.

Hoje é dia ...
Ummm 🤔 this is perfect for what is going on in the world. 😢
The lyrics take away from the beauty of the music in this case.
Miss Haslip, but the times i met him, he wasn't a nice guy, I have to admit.
