I expect this mower will last several seasons with decent care. ruclips.net/user/postUgkx1VWTrayKBdCKAjzAcZ_Eg4dhHTae3LkN also recommend Also, I ran across the problem with it not starting the 2nd time I used it. There is a safety switch which is pushed in by the chute or mulching piece being attached to the deck. I took the cover off and it wouldn't start. Put it back on, no problem. It takes only a minute with 2 easily accessible wingnuts and no tools. This mower starts up first crank each time and it is a joy to use. It also mows in reverse by putting the key to the reverse area after starting and pushing in the triangular button. It will stay in reverse mode until you turn it off. All in all, for my homeowner needs, I really like this mower-and at 70 bucks a cut here in Miami, it's already more than 1/3 paid for itself in a month.
We have a 2017 JD S240 18.5 v twin. We did get carpet laying discharge until I lifted the outer discharge chute and bunged it the upper position. Now the clippings are thrown to the wind and there is no residue looking layer on the lawn. When the irrigation is operated, any clippings laying on top of the grass plants are pushed down to the soil. We traded our Husqvarna LTH 18538 with mulching kit on the JD. The Husqvarna did a terrible job leaving clumps and wind rows on the right side of the mowing path, and being a one cylinder, it vibrated. With the JD I can mow bare footed and with the Husqvarna I never could. We bought the Husqvarna in 2013 for $1,300. JD gave us $1,000 trade allowance (no other dealer or brand would take a trade in) The JD was $2,300. With the Husqvarna it took 1.5 hours to mow the lawn because I had to go so slow. With the JD, I'm done in 45 minutes. I now understand "it's not how fast you mow, it's how well you mow fast"
I think the Husqvarna has the edge over the Deere. I know because I have both. The Husqvarna also has a metal hood as opposed to the plastic hood of the Deere, which will break its mounting points over time. The Husky will age better in my opinion. The Mower deck is constructed better too. V-twins are generally more louder than single piston, but nonetheless, I always use hearing protection and safety glasses when mowing so noise is never an issue.
I don’t get why your comparing a crappy entry level John Deere which is on its last days of life with a brand new husqvarna. Try comparing an x300 series John Deere with a husqvarna like that
@@manofculture4945 Don't get excited man. I was comparing the two I have. I've had the Deere since 2003 and it is still going strong but it does have it's weaknesses. Nothing that will make me want to get rid of it though. 460hrs is far from end of life. I keep it well maintained and it runs great. I was just a little more impressed with the Husky's metal hood and other areas that are a bit more robust. I'm happy with both and each has it's purpose where I am. I use the Deere for the light sections and the Husky for the heavier. I have no need for an X300 to be honest.
@@manofculture4945 I bet their both $2500 new machines John Deere x340 is $5000 with 25 hp Kawasaki engine and 48 inch deck or 54 inch and real heavy deck
I have a John Deere LA130 bought in 2007, 48" deck. It has almost 700 hours on it, and still works fine. That RIO button is very easy to bypass, and raise the deflector and it will throw the clippings a lot better.
I’m mowing with an LX 172 made in 94. It’s tough as a Sherman tank. The original Kawasaki still purrs! After a lifetime of MTD mowers I am thrilled with the John Deere tractor 🚜 . I sharpen monthly for perfect results.
I don’t mean to harp on this but I was just redirected back to your vid in my search so I’m going to make one more comment lol. I think you should have titled this vid “Brand New Husqvarna v/s Old Neglected John Deere” Lol
take the flap on the john deere and hold it up with a bungie and the grass will get thrown further and spread better. I had an LT-155 with that same flap and it did the same so we folded the flap up and it solved the issue
I had a 20 yr old JD i gave to my neighbor when I purchased a new one, and it looked better then that 5 yr old one. he needs to take better care of him Mower.
You did your best stumbling through a subject you seem to know nothing about. Just for the record, the John Deere box store models are made at their plant in Tennessee. Always have been.
I never had a Deere before, but I would probably say that the deck was clogged and or needed to be cleaned, compared to your newer Husqvarna. I have a YT54LS model with a reinforced deck, rapid replace blades, limited slip, and a 23hp Kawasaki. Great mower I have about 48 hours on it with zero problems, definitely a great mower thank you for your review because it definitely helped me when I bought mine a few months ago! Best of luck with yours!
Had bad experiences with Husqvarna specifically the 42 riding mower within just a year new from lowes, but the walk behind mower by husqvarna is excellent! I ended up getting a John Deere zero turn so far things a dream 😊
He just had it serviced a few weeks before video. It's just that the chute hangs to hard and low, grass can't fly well. Other than that, the John Deere wasn't all that bad, here it is Spring 2017, he was out on it the othre day, but I think he's having battery issues... not necessarily the tractor's fault.
I think the difference in the cut here is that the Husqvarna probably has High Lift blades installed, and the John Deere has Mulching blades installed. As well, the chute design can have an effect on how the cut grass lays down. When my grass is tall and thick I use a bungee cord to hold the chute completely open. Doing this allows the cut grass to flail out of the machine spreading thus spreading it far and wide--no rows of heavy cut grass remaining.
FYI for everyone. Going on 4th season. Only issue, seat material cracked a little (2"). Just made final payment (package included Mower, Husqvarna blower and Redmax trimmer) woot woot.....
This isn’t exactly an apples to apples comparison. You need to come back in about five or six years when the new has worn off of your Husqvarna so we can see if it still runs. Until then everything you say is just speculative right? I’m not trying to be mean or a smartass but you’re comparing a brand new mower to a John Deere that has been Rode Hard and put up wet! Lol Man I have a Cheaper Scott’s (John Deere) that I bought from Home Depot about 17 years ago that has set out in the weather every day and it looks much better than that John Deere that your neighbor has in your video and it still runs great today. I don’t even know how you can make a lawn mower look so old, worn-out and used like that JD that you are comparing your brand new lawnmower to. Wazzupwitdat?
Hey, just checking in... I'm on 126 Hours, no mechanical issues. Drive belt changed last fall (2019), seat is ripped since 2018ish, other than that, doing fine!
I feel the Husqvarna GTH is a better tractor. The drive belt and mower deck are quick release. I can have the deck off a Husqvarna in under 10 minutes. And not a fan of John Deeres New oil change system...
@@philllsxga.7737 bruh their new oil change system is good all you have to do is just replace that one thing it's much easier I feel like john deere is better cause they last longer then Husqvarna I have a la125 That's really old it runs good still meanwhile Husqvarna Brakes down a lot
If you lift the shute on the Deere, You will get a better broadcast of your clippings. You also have mulching blades on Husqvarna. You need Gator mulching blades on the Deere.
Can you explain what makes the John Deere better? I'm thinking of buying a new riding lawn mower next week debating whether to get the John Deere or the Husqvarna thank you
Well I can tell you what I know being a small engine mechanic and antique garden tractor collector. What you don't want is a Briggs and Stratton or Kohler engine. They are cheaper and don't last long, what you want is a Kawasaki engine. Also the same company makes Husqvarna, Craftsman, MTD, Poulan Pro, Airens and more. They just are different names and a few things are different. Newer mowers are cheaply made and only last a few years anyway, but the older tractors I have , have lasted 50+ years.
@@schweit10 Hahaha. The only tragedy is the number of people who go out of their way to put an "informational" video out and they don't even know the name of what they're talking about. No different than if we were at a dinner party and I repeatedly called your wife Katie instead of Kathy and I never bothered to get it right. Seriously, it isn't even spelled the way people try to pronounce it. I've never seen it written as Husqavarna or Husquvarna. Have you?
@@jaypuck6912 I completely agree with the number of people who go our of their way to put out "informational" videos. And now that I think of it, maybe the best part of the video was indeed him actually pronouncing Husquvarna correctly.
I want this hovering Huskavarna lawnmower , look at the right wheel it is not turning when he is mowing the lawn just floating across the grass , SUPER COOL
It can just be down to different types of blades used as to why one is discharging grass clippings better than the other. You would have to have the exact same blades on both mowers to make a proper comparison. I have had a JD for years but my next ride on mower with be a Husky.
Well, it's been a summer and my husqvarna worked flawlessly including sucking up leaves (I have a lot of those) going up and down steep grades and on wet grass. Did not have to add 1 drop of oil. The limited slip rear might chop up weak or newly planted grass when making extreme tight turns, but the grass seems to fix itself, it's not that bad. The only minor thing to mention, very minor, is that the hour gauge fogs up on certain days, but it goes away. As far as my comparison video, the John Deere looked exactly the same as the newer ones I saw while shopping around. The deck, seat, pretty much everything. This was hardly a scientific comparison, I agree. My other neighbor upgraded from an older Craftsman to a Husqvarna this summer, but with the gray deck, usually found in Home Depot or Lowe's. We are not on speaking terms, but he seems to have no problems.
So how is the Husqvarna doing after abusing it like you did the John Deere. Have you heard of mulching blades? Mowing the lawn more than once a month also helps. I have the LA125 with 197 hrs that has not given me a problem, of course I give it proper servicing and cleaning.
And the point of this review is what? The Husq is a kick ass machine. Cheap to operate compared to the JD. The ignition back up and cut setting is great. I have one I love it. Great with the big bagger I have not had to rake in 5 years in the fall. Sucks it all up.
I have a 2010 Poulan Pro 500EX 46" 20hp B&S (made by Husqvarna) and I love it. I don't mulch leaves in the normal sense, but I get it done just the same. I blow the leaves in towards the center of the lawn as I mow till their in one big pile in a row and then mow over it and keep reigning back in towards the center until the leaves are chopped up so fine that on the final passes they basically disappear. I can only see a few slight differences between yours and mine. Most everything is the same except my deck only has the rear anti-scalp wheels, no deck stops in front and no 12volt port. My blade engage is like the one on the John Deere. On the other hand the transmission disengage on the back of mine is a lot more robust than that wire on yours. Mine looks like a thick rod with a knob on the back. I bought it brand new in 2010 and it still works like new. All I have ever done is general maintenance to it except for last weekend when I replaced the old mandrels/spindles in the mower deck as the bearings were going out in the old ones and making the deck vibrate bad. The new ones came with grease zerks which the originals did not have so they should last longer. I currently have 177.3 hours on the mower and it's still going strong.
The blade is probably a lot sharper on the Husqvarna if the John Deere had a sharper Blade the results may have been different or if it had just been sharpened
The button keeps the PTO engaged while you're in reverse. You only have to hold the button long enough to get going in reverse, and then you can let go of it.
The wind row effect is due to the chute design. One can add a bolt through the chute that contacts the metal deck and holds the chute higher above the ground or like I did, bungee the chute all the way up and broadcast the clippings. My S240 mows better than my neighbors JD Z35 with mulching deck.
Im not a fan of the Kohler engines. You can find a Husqvarna with a Briggs though. I ended up buying a JD D140 for my first lawn tractor and I love it. The JD has a Briggs engine if you buy a JD with a "John Deere Engine." I was a field engineer for a cnc company and actually did some work for Briggs. I was told by a Briggs employee literally the only difference in the engines for JD vs any other tractor brand is the JD engines have Green stickers with the JD insignia. The reason I got the JD though is I live close to a dealer and parts are very easily and readily available for me. If I wouldnt have bought the JD I would have hunted down a Husqvarna with a Briggs on it. As for throwing the grass mine does a good job. Except next week I'll be putting on the mulching kit so it won't matter any more lol. Too many leaves around my house not to have it.
I did not see where he compared what kind of blades each machine was running. The stock Deere blades are notorious for not blowing grass out very far but their bagger blades are amazing.
Probably has 3-in-1 blades or mulching blades, so no it won't throw the grass clippings as far. Unless you are truly mulching those mulching blades aren't what you want, you need the high lift blades for side discharge and bagging.
All home-and-garden center variety mowers are a compromise in many ways. It's a very competitive market and price is the name of the game. If you want a truly durable mower you're going to have to pay another $1,000 or so and get a garden tractor; everything is beefier and longer lasting. However, in the end, regular maintenance is what's going to keep anything lasting longer. Many homeowners don't do this.
I’ve had both brands. JD is over priced. Husqvarna was $1000 cheaper for same size deck 54 inches. Plus the bagger for JD was $1400 that takes forever to attach. I’d go with the orange one
I had a Husqvarna 18.5 rider. Vibrated terrible and took about 1.5 hrs to mow 1/4 acre. Got a JD S240 with V twin. Runs real smooth and now takes 40 to 45 minutes to mow my 1/4 acre. JD mower deck performs better than the Husqvarna deck ever did.
Tom n You are comparing a entry level Husqvarna to a higher priced deluxe JD !!!! Compare that Husqvarna to an entry level JD and the JD sucks !!! Husqvarna has a problem with their late decks of vibrating, It took me 2 mowers to get one that was "better" but still is rough running, I did remove the original blades and replaced them with new, same number hi lift BALANCED blades and it helped, but I find My Husqvarna YTH18542 mower deck chatters when in taller grass compared to my older Ariens which is a 9 year old 42 cut also with the 20 HP BS V2...
huh...trying to decide on one of these brands...looks to be almost the same thing in the stores at first glance. curious. want Ease of taking deck off/sharpening blades and of course Reliability.....with the "little" things...the engines seem to be from the same plant/plans or are very similiar
Well, my Husqvarna at 160 hrs. is still running perfectly well. Just the seat has two rips in it because of the material. I'm not sure if the newer ones have different material? John Deere machines are good too, I guess it's what you feel good with. As far as blade removal, I just raised the deck up on both them if I recall it's either a half inch or 9/16 bolt remove them, use a hand file and reinstall. Deck removals are also pretty much straightforward very easy to do. On both models.
I have a Husqvarna 2146xp bought in 2008 if i remember correctly. Tufftork K46 transmission,Twin cylinder Kawasaki 21hp engine. My tractor work perfect, about 226 hrs on the meter. I did only regular maintenance, including a transmission oil change(they say that is not required but its bullshit) Changing the oil in a hydro transmission avoid problems on the long run. Battery was changed 1 time. I filled the rear tire with liquid to improve traction, since i am not a very heavy person. The Kawasaki engine is very smooth and quite easy on gas. Ofc there's better machine but i never regreted my purchase!
I have a Husky push mower bought new about 6 yrs ago, when buying a _distressed_ property. It has a Kolher motor, which has held up to being used as a mower, and basically a small _Bush hog_ , and has hit countless rocks, sticks, roots, etc. And still mow roughly an acre regularly... Best mower I've had in my 61 yrs.
I have a Husky Rider that's almost zero turn with mulching deck and blades. It has a B&S motor and mows our acre (which has a combo of grass types and weeds) beautifully, no leftovers or unsightly leaves after a mow. If someone offered me a JD of similar quality and price when I was looking I may well have gone that way. I will never tie myself to a brand. It's not logical. There are good and bad with EVERY mower, we all know that. When some commenters say never, can't and don't they are leaving themselves open to ridicule or at least being put in their place. For example B&S motors are good nowadays and to that poster who said you can't, yes you can get a Husky with a Kwaka motor. In fact I could have when I bought mine. This rubbish about mowing quicker with the Deere...what's that all about? I can fly and do a reasonable job or slow down a bit and enjoy the me time. I'm out there for some R&R actually so who the f cares if it's a bit longer, if at all? This video comparison was not very good; a new mower versus an old one of dubious maintenance history. Blades may have been chipped, blunt and or bent in a clogged up deck on the JD versus brand spankers and clean deck on the Husky. A somewhat ineffective way to kill quarter of an hour was all. To MrBackYardMechanic, I for one could not understand a word you spoke while actually mowing, all drowned out by the engine. The whole video had low volume. I am glad you didn't come down heavy on the Husky or the JD; let the fanboys do that. Big Tip: Don't wash the deck or mower innards out with water; always use air and a steel brush. Bearing can get water in them and . . . well you know bearings don't like water.
I know this wasn't an official comparison or whatever but, I recently got a new mower husqvarna bult craftsman pro series 7000 everything on my craftsman is the same as the husqvarna in vid deck has the same place chipped with the paint kohler motor, electric PTO. I would definitley take the husqvarna anyday
427 elevating productions I also have a craftsman pro 2014 model year and it is built by Husky even has a Husqvarna sticker on it under the seat I was told when the model number starts off with 917 it is built by husky we all know craftsman does not make lawn tractors I think now craftsman built by mtd I got lucky like you and got a husky built one
I buy only commercial mowers for my business but I like Husqvarna over JD. John Deere makes some of the best commercial mowing equipment no doubt but for my money Husqvarna gets my money every time.
Curtis Hermanson I agree the only commercial zero turns I run are husqvarna exmark and scag way to many problems with John Deere and their dealers parts are also way more expensive
Nothing runs like a deere. Have an 02 and an 03 and both are like new! Despite what people think, John Deere's mowers are completely different from those of MTD and Husqvarna. No matter what grade you buy, dealer or big box John Deere, its the same quality that John Deere puts in to everything they build! The big box ones are NOT MTD or AYP or Husqvarna. They are all true JD under the hood!
Tony McGee I noticed that too. I have an 05 125 Automatic I bought used from a friend. Under the hood it looks new. My deck looks like dog shit though, a lot of the paint is coming off and the right side anti-scalp wheel snapped off (previous owner) so I need to get that welded back on.
our kubota mower shoots grass like a big rocket lunge its powerful and 10x' deeper deck and wider chute and thicker guage solid steel deck with shaft driven
Michael Mac Tavish Here we go again...your talking about a TOTALLY different class of tractor dude. These are just very small LAWN tractors,NOT GARDEN OR SUBCOMPACT tractors like your talking about. My Deere X-595 diesel or X-534 articulated will chewup and spit out a COMPARABLE SIZED Kabota easily.
my first riding mower was a Sears craftsman LT1000 back in 2005 and it has a 42" mower deck. Now first I must say I am NOT very good at maintenance and I am a bit rough on equipment. It served me very well until a couple years ago and never had any bad issues that were not from my own doing. I also now have a Husqvarna 48" for 2 years and I have noticed one thing. I have had to drop and clean the mower deck a lot and it seems to easily got clogged with grass. It has 3 smaller blades compared to the craftsman which had just 2. Also I have issues with the Husqvarna throttle getting stuck especially on slopes. I had it looked at and supposedly fixed, but it still does it. Also it is very hard to see how much gas you have thru the little window since gas really has no color to make it stand out. Just my 2 cents and experience and like i said I am not very easy on equipment so if they want to truly test them, then let me have it for a go. ;-) Just saying
I have a 2004 Sears LT 1000 20 hp Briggs 2 cyl model I plow snow in winter and mulch grass in summer just normal maintenance oil change, air filter gas, filter, grease, installed 24 F battery best they had from walmart after first year it is still in use it refuses to die, plugs once every few years, drive belt every 2 years mower belt every 4 years (turn blades on and off at idle after warm up) blades every year replace, same tires, replaced spring on automatic transmission shift handle , oil change valve nothing else needed i would buy another one right now if sears still had the same ones but the new ones you cant put in a 24F battery so that means a new battery every year or 2. Best riding mower i ever had i am 78 and i think it will outlast me.
The one mod i did do was i ran a fused wire from the positive of the battery terminal to a switch on the dash where the throttle control has the arrow and drilled a hole and fed the toggle through on a DPDT center off switch ran the top terminal to the front to the junction where the headlights went to the hood and ran the ac volts off of the ignition switch to the rear of the switch i installed lower terminal this gives me the option of a full 12vdc on the headlights anytime or the Alternating current (Dim) which i never use anymore .
Haha.. I agree! I have the same model and it runs great as well! Now the plastic hood is jacked as my son drove it into our boat hitch many years ago, but hey.. who cares.
Kevin Is #1 the Deere is built better. BUT! Big but... you gotta buy the dealer models. Stay away from the 100 series. Basically any mower you’ll find at Home Depot, Lowe’s, Wal Mart, etc.. all garbage. I’ve got the x330. Love it. Very well built. I have a huge hill in my yard and it handles it like a champion. Deere or cadet all day.
Nice video. I toasted my JD briggs engine due to low engine oil last week and now I am in market to buy new one. My old JD use to similarly lay out grass clumps when discharging on side, even with sharp or new blades. The deck was pretty clean. So I was glad to see I wasn't alone with this issue. Does anyone have similar grass clump issue with Husqvarna. I am debating to go with JD D125 or Husqvarna YTH22V42, and would really appreciate to get feedback on Husqvarna in how good it cuts grass.
Thanks for the reply. I caught a lot of heat for this video, it wasn't meant to be scientific, just for fun really. This was the first year I left the mulching kit on, including the blades and chute cover which makes everything get chopped up really good. My grass did very well, I was really surprised. Under normal use, with the chute opened, it throws the grass nicely and I have had no issues with the tractor at all except the darn seat already cracked at a crease :(. Changed oil at 40 hours. Blew out air filter. Engine runs fine. Did not have to add ANY oil prior to or after the first 40 hours, now up to 50 hours or so... I would suggest a local dealer for one and treat the transaction like buying a car. I got a good package deal with a blower and commercial grade weed trimmer... Also, and others would agree, it seems the brick and mortar stores sell tractors with lower quality parts, including internal engine components. Good luck with either purchase, they are both good tractors...
I may be mistaken, but you threw the grass with the Husqvarna to the outside with both passes whereas with the John Deere you made your second pass over the discarded grass of your first pass which explains the build-up. If so, this is not a good comparison.
I had a 2004 Husqvarna 13.5 hp Kawasaki 2 cylinder engine, 42-inch deck, that worked just fine. I sold it at 260 hours and the only thing I ever did to that engine was change the spark plugs one time and changed the oil at the start of every season. The controls were a lot less confusing and complicated than either of these two. Why do you need two separate controls to go forward and reverse? And why do you need a special button to back up with the blades engaged? That is too much crap and isn't necessary. It had a manual choke on it so you could just pull it out and choke it as you needed, not all the way in or all the way out, and it wasn't tied in with the throttle. The cutting height was a dial on the bottom of the dash panel, screw it in to lower and screw it out to raise the cutting height. I took a hacksaw and shortened up the discharge chute and took the back bolt out of it so I could just lift it up and swing it out of the way when I was mowing taller grass and didn't want the heavy discharge grass lying around and didn't want the chute getting plugged up when mowing tall grass. I have had Yard Man (MTD) and John Deere and Husqvarna and Husqvarna would get my vote every time on the best design and best engine supplier.
Whether Big Box or dealer purchase the John Deere will still come with that damn plastic body cover! Plastic on a top end big name lawn tractor? That reduces the overall value considerably in my view. Built well but this is a major put off and I have an LX172 I have used for over 20yrs. Hood hinge is busted and cost more than the mower is worth to fix or replace it.
I have owned the Husqvarna. Most Uncomfortable mower I have ever owned. Very problematic also. Bad Brigs and Stanton engine. JD took it in trade on a S240 18.5 V twin 42 yellow deck. Used to take 1.5 hours to mow my flat city lot with the Husqvarna. Now takes 45 minutes to mow the same area with the JD. I look forward to getting on my JD. I dreaded having to mow with the Husqvarna.
They are not even comparable models regardless to the year. The John Deere you’re comparing is an entry level John Deere with a Briggs engine while you’re comparing a higher end Husqvarna with a Kohler engine.
This comparison is like me getting a small 7 year old beat to death 32 inch 6.5hp zero turn I can't think of any brands compared to a 2020 bad boy rouge 61inch 35hp zero turn it's 2 totally different setups
My Uncles has 4 acres and I help him out with his lawn when his business is in the busy season. He has a 2010 john deere but recently one of his distructive workers snapped a rear wheel off. He went out and bought a new husqvarna. It looks real nice but around 100ft out of the trailer I packed it back up and was on my way to Doggett to get the parts I needed. In my opinion John deere is a much nicer experience.
the age has a lot to do with it . everything form air in tires ,sharp blades , what the one has been threw. im not fan of jd but they do make good stuff depending on models. it seems like the mowers are getting better over the years. thanks for vid. J. P.
My opinion is that this test is unfair; the husky is new but the JD is old & needs the blades checked for sharpness. Try a new JD x350 mower & then compare it to the Husky!
I've had issues with our husqvarna tractor always snapping belts. Deck rusts like an old chevy. Motor is good though but not very powerful. I love the power of a John deer
Husqvarna with Kohler 7000 series engine is the better engine by a country mile over any Briggs and Straton the Kohler 7000 series 22 horsepower 725cc V Twin engine is designed after the Kohler command commercial pro engine..
I have had no issues at all. I am just about to hit 40 hours. The only two issues is that the height adjustment lever sticks out a little bit to your left, so it might catch on something. The other issue is because this is the limited slip model, the inside wheel might dig up your grass slightly but nothing major especially if it is wet or freshly seeded. However if your lawn is mature and healthy, it should not be an issue.
I love all these comments about oh it's a box store John Deere. It doesn't matter all their new equipment sucks they don't make them like they used too. The old lawn tractors and medium duty tractors quality are long gone. Go look at commercial mowers John Deere is one of the highest priced at a lower quality compared to husqvarna exmark scag and others
And use something similar price as well the john deer is their cheapest line made for big box store and you comparing it against a top of the line husqvarna
a man sold me a 1005a for 25 dollars he said it wasnt worth messing with he put it in the trash . this is my first rider ever.so i took a chance he delivered it and told me no refund, i put gas in it a battery, but it would not fire at the plugs.. long story short through trial i unplugged the black wire on the coil. Bingo, 2 minutes later i was trying it out it has no rust looks fairly new runs great i had to bypass my pto so now it mows in reverse without cutting off.,just because im honest i told him, he called me a lie and sold me another one for fifty dollars its very slender,i never seen one before, it almost look like a snapper. i looked at it,its been stored for a season it looks really good but he cant get it started and he's frusterated. he's gonna deliver it tomorrow .
its quarter inch increments your adjusting it on an angle so spacing in farther apart. Think of it as a circle is smaller going around near the middle than it is on the outside
I think your buddies shoot has aged as mine has and sends the grass downward, resulting in the grass not being throw outward. I leave mine in the up position using a bungee chord which I slip off when mowing the street. Both good mowers. Your buddy should clear his deck of debris more often, and his oil filter needs to be changed by the look of it.
you prolly dont give a shit but if you guys are stoned like me atm you can stream pretty much all of the new movies on Instaflixxer. Been streaming with my gf these days =)
The Husqvarna mower is not made by the Husqvarna Company nor is the John Deere made by John Deere. Those two lawnmowers are made by the same company and I note that they have so called "Briggs and Stratton " engines. Please note the Briggs and Stratton engines are now made in China and are total and utter shite! If you want trouble buy one or other of those lawnmowers! You have been warned!!!!
@@Eddie-ev9bv I would not touch a B&S engine for any reason, I have had two of them fail in the past. My previous mower was powered by a Honda engine, and my current Husqvarna TS246 has a Kawasaki engine. It comes with the Kwacka engine form the factory, but they have since dropped that option. My local dealer says a number of them have sent messages to ask to have the Kwacka engine put back among the options.
@@Geebax2 You are 100 % correct. In olden days, Briggs and Stratton engines were one of the most reliable engines obtainable. Unfortunately nowadays, profit comes before quality and the B & S engines are all now made in China , are mass produced and are junk. The old Kawasaki engine was very reliable and never gave any trouble but of course they are now gone by the wayside as well. The only reliable mower nowadays is the Honda and hopefully it will continue to be made by that company. It is a bit more expensive to buy , but you basically get what you pay for.
Matt, that's too logical ;) . My neighbor, who's older, went with his wife to the Detroit suburbs to visit his wife's ailing relative. He called me and asked me to care for his lawn because he had extended their stay and he noticed we were having a lot of rain back here in NY. He told me where the key to his shed was, the gas, and of I went. At the same time, a few days later, I got my Husky. I figured that one of the 2 times I cut his lawn (about 1.2 ac.) I would make this video. Since then, he has developed liver cancer, had a transplant and his health is "good". So, being a good neighbor, I try my best to help. Heck, his wife brought us some homemade chocolates and a $50 charlie brown's restaurant gift card. Sorry, no great conspiracies here... lol..
mulch blades or blades that do both don't throw gas very far, news high lift blades the JD blows the grass out allot further. both are great machines. I'm more into the JD/Briggs motor as reliably goes, but again the difference is minimal. I love green, but that's a pretty orange...lol
Sharpening your blade makes a hell of a big of a difference the way your machine performs
Nothing Runs Like A Deere.... But you got to keep it maintained!
You really can’t go wrong with either one of these tractors.
@@manofculture4945 The fact that he is comparing the 2 shows how great and old worn John Deere still runs.
@@manofculture4945 I bet their both $2500 new machines
John Deere x340 is $5000 with 25 hp Kawasaki engine and 48 inch deck or 54 inch and real heavy deck
Lt166 doesnt give me any noise problems
I have a John Deere LA130 bought in 2007, 48" deck. It has almost 700 hours on it, and still works fine. That RIO button is very easy to bypass, and raise the deflector and it will throw the clippings a lot better.
I’m mowing with an LX 172 made in 94. It’s tough as a Sherman tank. The original Kawasaki still purrs! After a lifetime of MTD mowers I am thrilled with the John Deere tractor 🚜 . I sharpen monthly for perfect results.
Yeah I gotta L120 bot as old as yours but still I feel ya. Nothin runs like a Deere!
I don’t mean to harp on this but I was just redirected back to your vid in my search so I’m going to make one more comment lol.
I think you should have titled this vid “Brand New Husqvarna v/s Old Neglected John Deere” Lol
Exactly what I was going to write lol old Johnnys most likely never seen a service lol
Omg exactly what is this guy doing here? Compare apples to apples same year same price class. This is terrible
Yea the John Deere was about 300 less
take the flap on the john deere and hold it up with a bungie and the grass will get thrown further and spread better. I had an LT-155 with that same flap and it did the same so we folded the flap up and it solved the issue
I got the same Husqvarna but with the 48" deck cuts pretty well never bogs down for me.
That deere may have the mulch blades on it
I have over 1000 hours on my 2011 YT4000 24hp Platinum B&S and it doesn't burn, nor leak a single drop of oil, and I use it a lot.
Had bad experiences with Husqvarna specifically the 42 riding mower within just a year new from lowes, but the walk behind mower by husqvarna is excellent! I ended up getting a John Deere zero turn so far things a dream 😊
looks like the old John Deere needs new blades or sharpend
He just had it serviced a few weeks before video. It's just that the chute hangs to hard and low, grass can't fly well. Other than that, the John Deere wasn't all that bad, here it is Spring 2017, he was out on it the othre day, but I think he's having battery issues... not necessarily the tractor's fault.
4000 hours on a john deere. All I replaced was the blades and battery a few times.
4 years to pay for a riding mower?🤷♂️🤔
@@livewithnick correct 0% financing. A great way to build up and maintain your credit. I figured why not I could have paid cash.
6:50 Husqvarna YT42LS Start Up Sound
9:01 John Deere LA135 Start Up Sound
Why did you engage the blades at high idle on the John Deere? Always lower the RPM.
Lol
Man I have a Cheaper Scott’s (John Deere) that I bought from Home Depot about 17 years ago that has set out in the weather every day and it looks much better than that John Deere that your neighbor has in your video and it still runs great today.
OK so neglected 5 year old JD vs. brand new Husky with a clear presenter bias to the Husky. Moving on....
@@SRN42069 that's laziness.
They do that because sissies don't want to get their hands dirty !! How do you fully drain the crank case?? Bad idea!
@@philllsxga.7737 I know lol I just thought about that anyways I still think john deere is better
@Allosaurus 67 I know lol I just thought about that anyways I still think john deere is better
If you lift the shute on the Deere, You will get a better broadcast of your clippings. You also have mulching blades on Husqvarna. You need Gator mulching blades on the Deere.
The John deer Difference really shows in the larger models and the accessories for them.
I’ll ride the Deere every time. I have one and there’s no comparison. Try next time to get two new mowers and see a real test
Can you explain what makes the John Deere better? I'm thinking of buying a new riding lawn mower next week debating whether to get the John Deere or the Husqvarna thank you
Cough cough case/ingersol
Well I can tell you what I know being a small engine mechanic and antique garden tractor collector. What you don't want is a Briggs and Stratton or Kohler engine. They are cheaper and don't last long, what you want is a Kawasaki engine. Also the same company makes Husqvarna, Craftsman, MTD, Poulan Pro, Airens and more. They just are different names and a few things are different. Newer mowers are cheaply made and only last a few years anyway, but the older tractors I have , have lasted 50+ years.
Thank you so much for pronouncing Husqvarna correctly. Mostly in the dirt bike world, I hear Husk-UH-varna a lot.
I hope you were able to recover from the tragedy of people mispronouncing Husqvarna. Stay strong!
To experience an actual John Deere you have to pay the price for the X 300, anything Less, and you get the POS experience.
Do not forsake end of season oil and filter changes, nor the grease fittings, and the Huskie will continue to run like new forever..
you'd have to lift the chute up so it doesn't pile up
So how is the Husqvarna doing after abusing it like you did the John Deere. Have you heard of mulching blades? Mowing the lawn more than once a month also helps. I have the LA125 with 197 hrs that has not given me a problem, of course I give it proper servicing and cleaning.
i prefer the husqvarna with the front mounted cutting deck give you alot better cut
And the point of this review is what?
The Husq is a kick ass machine. Cheap to operate compared to the JD. The ignition back up and cut setting is great. I have one I love it. Great with the big bagger I have not had to rake in 5 years in the fall. Sucks it all up.
I mulched, first time this past fall (2016) posting video of it soon, on wet hill also..
This is the second year (2017) I used a mulch kit, no raking at all, grass over the summer was healthy, no chemicals..
I have a huskie and a poulan but my poulan says Electrolux co.older model.B&S engine.
How is it cheap to operate compared to the JD? They're exactly the fucking same.
My D110 John Deere throws the grass out very well, also I keep my blades reasonably sharp to if that makes a difference.
How is the upkeep on these? Thinking of buying one myself do you need to do anything other than changing the oil thank you
The blade is probably a lot sharper on the Husqvarna if the John Deere had a sharper Blade the results may have been different or if it had just been sharpened
But the thing with the steering wheel on the side looks pretty cool
All home-and-garden center variety mowers are a compromise in many ways. It's a very competitive market and price is the name of the game. If you want a truly durable mower you're going to have to pay another $1,000 or so and get a garden tractor; everything is beefier and longer lasting.
However, in the end, regular maintenance is what's going to keep anything lasting longer. Many homeowners don't do this.
Where did you get that peddle set up? That is not a standard Husq. Set up.
I have a John Deere 8 years old like 375 hrs on it, still starts first time in the cold, and cuts great. It's been well cared for but very reliable.
New top of the line Husqvarna compared to an entry level Deere that has obviously not been treated very well. What a comparison...
That John Deere looks like crap compared to mine which is also a 2010 model. Does the owner take basic care of it?
You know how it is with some people, they see tools as a waste product, not a "take care of it and it lasts for ever" product :P
Yeah I abused mine and his looks worse than mine
Keep in mind that the John Deere is older than the other one
5 years older and not very well maintained, needs cleanup , probably needs blades sharpened, deck cleaned etc.
my first riding mower was a Sears craftsman LT1000 back in 2005 and it has a 42" mower deck.

My 1993 JD LX 178 with 44" Piranha deck can not be beat.
Haha.. I agree! I have the same model and it runs great as well! Now the plastic hood is jacked as my son drove it into our boat hitch many years ago, but hey.. who cares.
Id take that beat up Johnny over the other any day
Can you explain why please I'm thinking of buying a new riding lawn mower next week debating whether to get the John Deere or the Husqvarna thank you
Kevin Is #1 the Deere is built better. BUT! Big but... you gotta buy the dealer models.
@@dudedude8931 I'm between the cub cadet xt2 or the deere s240 right now. It's a tough decision
Donald Peach good news is you wouldn’t go wrong with either.
What would you recommend me for a large football field with grass collection? JD or Husqvarna. Thank you
Thanks for taking the time to make the review. Very interesting.
Husqvarna the best
Watching this for the first time 8 years later
Plastic body means NO Rust and weatherproof.
*through
I have to agree with the last person..The Deere has been let go...Proper maintenance means longer life.
Why is it that we have tons of JD owners with 15yrs + going strong and we don't see that with other brands ?
Need to sharpen the blades on the JD
the one is 5 yrs old there has been improvements since
Didn't read all the replies, but did you compare the blades to one another? One might be duller ore even be a mulcher type blade.
I did peek under and they were in good condition. My neighbor gets his machine tuned up every spring, including new blades....
My opinion is that this test is unfair; the husky is new but the JD is old & needs the blades checked for sharpness. Try a new JD x350 mower & then compare it to the Husky!
I love the la series
I've had issues with our husqvarna tractor always snapping belts. Deck rusts like an old chevy. Motor is good though but not very powerful.
I love the power of a John deer
Husqvarna with Kohler 7000 series engine is the better engine by a country mile over any Briggs and Straton the Kohler 7000 series 22 horsepower 725cc V Twin engine is designed after the Kohler command commercial pro engine..
that husky is one grass cuttin SOB.
John Derre is still working, but it's showing it's age. Going to buy a Cub Cadet XT1 Enduro Series with the 24 HP V twin Kohler with a 52" deck.
Love my husqvarna yth24 48 mower
Maybe a separate comparison would be just the engine. Nothing beats a Kohler.
And use something similar price as well the john deer is their cheapest line made for big box store and you comparing it against a top of the line husqvarna
I tried putting 10 inch tires on a Huskavarna too wide hits the mower deck and axial not long enough
I'll take my J D 125 any day over the husky!!he should try cleaning the deck on the John Deere after mowing ,it will last alot longer!!!
a man sold me a 1005a for 25 dollars he said it wasnt worth messing with he put it in the trash . this is my first rider ever.so i took a chance he delivered it and told me no refund, i put gas in it a battery, but it would not fire at the plugs.. long story short through trial i unplugged the black wire on the coil.
Robert
its quarter inch increments your adjusting it on an angle so spacing in farther apart. Think of it as a circle is smaller going around near the middle than it is on the outside
The JD may have mulching blades on it.
Is that a cigarette lighter on the Left on the huskavarna ?
When I saw the phone charger I knew where this was going hehe. However, I have a brand new JD 160 and the thing was awesome
you prolly dont give a shit but if you guys are stoned like me atm you can stream pretty much all of the new movies on Instaflixxer. Been streaming with my gf these days =)
@Reed Benton yea, have been using Instaflixxer for months myself =)
Looks like both of those came out of the same factory.
It is a bit more expensive to buy , but you basically get what you pay for.
y do u have ur neigbors mower?
Maybe he asked his neighbor for it so he could use it for a video
+Matt Britton that would be a strange conversation
+Bacardy Buster Not really
I have a 2021 Craftsman Turn tight T240 tractor that puts both the John deere and the Husqvarna literally to shame from quality build to performance..
