    I miss this... So simple. No segments, no weekly rule changes, simple points format. No manufactured drama or over glorified fights or wrecks. Truly the Golden Age of stock car racing.

    Damn. Re-watching this if that caution didn't come out when Gordon was under Johnson I think Gordon would've been gone with that clean air.

    All I could say that I was mad that Gordon spun out until he finished 2nd without a rear bumper. Almost another Bobby Allison style of a victory.

    Wally: "Watch these cars bounce." Man, I miss that. Now their so aero dependent and glued to the ground the racing really suffers and it makes it awful to watch. Nascar really died with the end of the Gen. 4 car.

      This. The new cars are catastrophic to the sport. They can hardly pass each other anymore.

    Wow. I was only 8 when this race happened. I remember watching that year so much. The COT made me forget how good the racing used to be. Glad to see the gen. 6 replicate this some. Nascar has ruined to many tracks though to get racing back like that

  • @wildfast88
    @wildfast88 12 лет назад +8

    This was the first and still the greatest chase ever. Everyone in the chase deserved to be there. All 10 races had good finishes, and the final race came down to 5 guys that had a chance to win the championship. I love the chase and in my opinion it was one of the best ideas Nascar ever made. Sure Johnson fucked up a few seasons but we still got some awesome finishes example was Homestead 2004, 2005, 2006, 2010, and 2011

    • @jraybay
      @jraybay 4 года назад +1

      That's true but I think people dont like it cause its abit gimmicky, and drivers who drove very well over the length of the season lost it all in one race.

    (dmetl) #218 - neat story of how Carl Edwards had to come to the race late on an airplane flight to take over his car at lap 29 ... story has it that he came in from another race he had just raced ... I'd say he must have been the busiest person in the universe that day!

    (dmetl) #217 - damn ... a wreck so soon ... lap 1! Dale jr. did a pretty good maneuver to avoid an accident ... Gordon n waltrip n Busch also worked the wheel good ... then ... another caution by lap 8 ... this must be a record for cautions

  • @sroush24
    @sroush24 12 лет назад +2

    well, kasey kahne was the fasteset car by far that night, heartbreaker for him. but im jeff gordon fan and i was so surprised for that car to run as fast as it did. then again it couldnt possibly get any slower than it was when it was a clean car.

  • @nkchevyguy91
    @nkchevyguy91 12 лет назад +1

    ahhh these were the best years of nascar...dale jr was in the 8 budweiser car, the racing was actually exciting and not bullshit, and jimmie johnson didnt destroy the fan base by non stop winning. prove me wrong anybody

  • @mattkowal90
    @mattkowal90 8 лет назад +2

    If this race was only 400 miles, Kasey Kahne would have finally won then blown that tire on the cool down lap. It takes 267 laps to make up 400 miles around Charlotte Motor Speedway, but since it's a 500-mile race (actually it calculates to 501 miles) it takes 334 laps. If only it was called the UAW-GM Quality 400.

  • @jg772006
    @jg772006 9 лет назад +2

    This race perfectly exemplifies Kasey Kahne's career ... nothing but bad luck. Sure hes got a bunch of wins, but he should have A LOT more. Hes been screwed far too many times. His rookie year alone in 04, he could have easily had 4 or 5 wins, but stupid shit like slipping in oil, or a tire going down cost him so many times.
    I remember this race very fondly, and was so upset for the kid. I felt so bad for Kasey. Hes a good kid, and a hell of a racecar driver, but hes been fucked so many times in his career.

    • @oompalee267

      +JG Warrior1377 Yeah it's a shame hes another driver like Gordon where every single rule change whether it be double file restarts, GWC, THE CHASE, the COT or the Gen 6 car having a great first season then have 3 different rules packages in 2015 for no reason has done nothing but hurt him. The sport really has become a joke Brian France is killing what his family created.

  • @bobbytrill420

    At around the 2:20:00 mark BP talks about the 9 cars vibration issues and says that because the car is dragging the racetrack occasionally it's possible he's knocked some teeth off the flywheel. He couldn't be anymore wrong, not only is the flywheel an clutch housed in a "scatter" or "shatter" shield, a 3/4 inch thick bellhousing, if there was no shield the transmission could not be bolted to the engine and even if that were possible it doesn't hang lower than the chassis or body. I just hate when broadcasters try to get technical and give some insight they couldn't be anymore wrong about. Plus it's not BPs fault it's the network making them "interact" and commentate with the at home audience

    Normally i dont respond to comments toward me.. But what type of racing do you watch? Clean air is everything, not to mention at the time Gordon was shit in dirty air with those cars. Also.. how does the rear bumper effect how much grip the front end gets with the clean air? -_-

  • @jackpierce1724
    @jackpierce1724 6 лет назад +2

    Too bad for Kasey Kahne, he was running so well, that MOPAR car looked pretty strong (reminded me of Ron Beauchamp Jr.'s car) and led 207 laps.

    Sure the cars are faster today, but the racing sucks. Cars are too aero dependent.
