- Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty reviewed by Matt Kim on PC. Also available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S.
Last year, I said in my review of Cyberpunk Edgerunners that CDPR now has a blueprint for where to go with Cyberpunk 2077, and Phantom Liberty shows the studio already had exactly that in mind. Between a more sophisticated level of storytelling with excellent performances, smarter insights on the cyberpunk genre and its dystopian themes, and landing on top of a much-improved gameplay experience thanks to its fresh 2.0 update, Phantom Liberty marks a new chapter for Cyberpunk 2077 and is finally close to what I’d hoped it would be when I first sat down to play three years ago.

@@ReaperCetbg3 releases an early access demo to help find and fix bugs. The expectations were set that it's early access and buggy. Most games that launch buggy are promising a fluid experience at launch. It's about expectations.

FINALLY! *THIS* is what they promised for the original release and we only got a few, but it seems there's finally alternating stories and not just "unlock Pam's questline so you can have her ending". Actual ROLE playing.
According to the early reviews the expansion has multiple 3rd acts that even affect the main story of the game it sounds insane
This is the only game that I'm going to play until something really serious will come out. Probably GTA 6 or The Witcher 4.
They work on Cyberpunk 2 already and that's pretty crazy.

Anyone who wasn’t buying into all the drama and just playing the game already had their hearts captured from the start. Really big mob mentality surrounding this game.

CDPR are incredible artists and storytellers. They have such great vision for their games; they're so ambitious it doesn't always execute perfectly, but it's hard not to appreciate the artistry in their work.

V not knowing what to do with the phone is pretty on point. Show anyone in their teens and younger a VHS or cassette tape and be entertained by the confusion.

A pity for the engine the developed in-house. They’re moving to Unreal Engine 5 which means Cyberpunk is it’s swan song.

Magnificent work they really nailed it.. been playing 2.0 non stop like 20+ hours since the update kicked in and it’s glorious blew me away.. can’t wait for phantom.. only a few hours left ❤️🔥

Except it's completely wrong in what it suggests. Cyberpunk's problems definitely weren't in thematic incoherence of its story or cheap humor undermining the storytelling. But it's IGN, so shitty takes are to be expected.

5:40 Me too! In fact, this is the only game I've never used the fast travel function; same is gonna be true for my 3rd playthrough xD. The world is so beautiful and immersive you just wanna take it all in.

This is still too common in the gaming industry. We should receive a quality product at the start. Not 3 years down the road.

Cyberpunk is doing so many bits I’m about to jump from a PS5 to my first ever PC build just to see some of this DLSS 3.5 raytracing overdrive for myself!
You should, path tracing at higher resolutions adds so much more to this game, the visuals are amazing as is, but get even better
unless you're getting a 4090 and a 4k monitor, don't bother.

no dlss + ray tracing looks amazing still.
DLSS is made for potato systems to brush up the visuals. If you got a high end GPU, you always turn stuff like DLSS off, because it actually makes the quality worse (obviously).

Question for those who have the dlc. Is there a link between one of the endings of the main story and the beginning of the dlc?
For the expansion, you’re placed almost half way through the main story. It’s not a continuation of the main story. You can still play the main story missions and progress in it and even finish it if you want.
Great review, props to the writer, this video was excellent and shows how far IGN has come and the improvements they have made over the years

@remek5758 they will. Like they did with the dlc. They are also moving to ue5 which should help development as the redengine caused alot of issues
@klebyell cause they built this on the same engine as the Witcher and they said it was difficult to make it work for a game like this now they're working with epic and using unreal 5 wich is alot easier to develop on

7:13 you're actually wrong here. Last Gen consoles are stuck at 1.16 and will not get 2.0 so not everyone can enjoy the marvelous 2.0 changes

The real shame is that this is the Grand Finale for 2077. No more DLC or updates unless we pull a Payday 2 and bully the studio into making more.

Its ok. But first CD Project must fix bug when screen flickering because chip in game was bugged. After mission in Cloud tower. Many players have this problem and starting new game after 2.0 came out. And have 10+ hours dont wonna start new game again because of this bug.
The map is awesome. Its both new and not new, you walk around and think "damn, there was that much space here?" (Hence the not new in my comment, it is completely integrated to NC original map). Crawls easily to my top 3 of fav places in the game along corpo plaza and Kabuki
The 2.0 update has been great so far. Looking forward to playing Phantom Liberty tomorrow.

The early access method really does work.
Hopefully they continue to build on this game.
They said this is the final version of the game, they are using Unreal engine 5 for all their further developements. This is it, enjoy it, the next game will be in the Witcher franchise (porbably Wither 4 or Witcher 1 remake, whichever comes first).
CP2077 is now in the final form. They will work on Witcher 4 and then actually a 2nd Cyberpunk
this is the final version but the next cyberpunk game is on the way. most likely in 3-4 years.
