I recently had a GL350 and put over 100,000Ks on it over four years. It was very comfortable, reliable and economical (particularly on freeways). Also, in spite of its size, very easy to drive in cities thanks to good visibility, the relatively small turning circle and great camera system.
I have the GL500 because I have three small kids. It's very relaxing to drive in vacation, you have more than enough space and the comfort is exquisite. The S class of the SUV for sur. This vehicle is not very common in France where I live, and often the people ask me what's is. Unfortunately if have a problem with it, I have vibrations at low revs and the garage doesn't seems to find what cases this.
We own a 2014 GL550 and other than the infotainment system I couldn't tell these two SUVs apart. Though the refresh was negligible I recommend this vehicle to buyers in this segment because it offers an excellent driving experience, versatility and functionality. The escalade is an excellent choice but I prefer the Mercedes design better. Thomas, as always, thank you for presenting this marvelous piece of engineering. Well done!
One of my favorite proper SUVs currently on the market. I am in love with your German accent! I feel the need to open a Milka bar. Thanks for this review. From The United States of America.
Fantastic and comprehensive review as always Thomas. Really enjoy your objective and considerate approach to the reviews without sounding too opinionated. It's all very matter of fact presenting the viewer with food for thought. Thanks!
Seems like the perfect bad ass family SUV. Loads of luxury, overkill power and good looks. An AMG equivalent is definitely on my list if i ever win the lottery haha! Thanks for the wonderful review Thomas!
Two thing this car is missing and i would love to see in the up coming models which are 1- head up display projector 2- the wide screen that comes on the E class. And head up display is more important in my opinion!
I test drove both the D5 and T6 versions of the XC90, I ended up buying the X5 30d, I personally like the interior of the XC90 more, but when it came to the engineering bits like noise cancellation, body roll, on road performance I just personally think that the Swedes have a lot to improve to catch up with Benz, BMW, Audi. The D5 was wayyyy tooo noisy for a premium SUV. T6 with a super+turbo charged 4 banger is a great concept but the real world fuel econyomy is around 12-14L/100KM which you could achieve with the 6cylinder diesel versions with the German rivals i just mentioned. Plus a 6 cylinder unit with todays technology I personally believe the power output is way smoother. Just my humble opinion
I agree about the motor. However here in the UK diesels are becoming a problem. There are strong indications that diesels may be banned, or require to pay a charge to enter cities. Central Government has already approved local Governments the power that charge diesel drivers. They are also taking about forcing owners of older diesels to scrap their cars - with some sort of payment incentive. So after many years of diesel cars, my new car this year will be petrol. The XC90is probably the most economical of the large petrol powered SUV's - but yes, it's not very refined and it certainly isn't a Cayenne or X5 round the twisty bits, bit that depends how you drive.
I would prob go for a Range Rover Sport if I were in UK with the supercharged V6 version. but ofc the XC90 is slightly bigger in size, In fact I felt even more cramped in the driver seat when i test drove the Sport vs my X5 plus the rear boot is slightly smaller. however RR Sport is way more luxury inside compared to the XC90. If ur chooseing the T8 engine with a few options u could prob get a AUTOBIOGRAPHY trim level with the supercharged v6 at the same price. and since its a hybrid system in theT8, I wouldnt think that the reliability would be any better than RR even though RR are not particularly known for their reliability. Another problem with Volvo is just the image of the car. RR and Benz has basically been the benchmark for the luxury car segment (excluding the very high end Rolls, Bentley) and are continuing to raise the bar. My friend has a S500 and I was impressed by how much more luxury it was compared to my X5 even though I had extra covered leather dashboard option. In fact even the Sport just feels, looks, drives way more luxurious than the XC90. It feels more planted on the road, softer and is a lot more quiet.
Great reviews - always the right amount of detail to really get to know a vehicle! Personally, I'm eager for the next generation of these Mercedes SUV's to inherit the interior technology that was just seen in the E-class.
I got inside a GLS with the "cloth" seating and found the platform quite acceptable and prefer it for the comfort and feeling after driving it! The brown interior seating is perfect for me!
This is the best car i ever had 2013 GL,downside is shocks are almost 2000$ a piece, coolant pipes can brake 1500$ to replace all 5,good thing is its so comfy and easy to drive that you dont feel your money is wasted
Looking forward to this review, I'm sure it's awesome! Thomas you have to be one of the hardest working people on you tube, almost everyday another interesting review, rock on brother.....
An excellent review of an outstanding SUV. I enjoyed the easy pace of the review, and the general positive attitude he exudes. Brings out all the great features of this vehicle. I will buy it when it comes to North America.
Wie jedes Video super Thomas...auch gut das du die Videos auf englisch machst, dann hast du auch deutlich mehr Menschen die deine Videos gucken....veränder dich nicht denn so wie du gerade arbeitest ist es am besten!!!
21:44 the cover is for covering up valuables that you want to leave in the vehicle. So at least they aren’t in plain sight of any thieves walking past.
Few comments of what could be improved, as overall it’s a great car. Dashboard could show the date, the back part when loading or unloading heavier things could be equipped with a lowering function for better maneuvering and handling, the reverse and parking audio signal the level of volume should be manageable by the driver to chose the preferred level of signal
I love it. It looks way better than the current Audi Q7 and this is not even the top of line. This car is for people with a lot of stuff and a very busy schedule.
Current GLS : facelifted GL which was originally a big 7 seater ML for the US market Next GLS : Everything will change to compete the Bentayga with more luxury from the S-class and Maybach/V12 versions.
@25:23 I'm sure you meant 2 litre 4 cylinder turbo engines 😊 All aside, a brilliant review as always from the God of Full HD, full length, full screen, full of details reviews. Ghanshyam, Braunschweig. 👏🏽👍🏽😎😃
My father owns one and it's a GLS450, it's sad that they don't offer a sport package look for the US, but only for Canada. However, it's one awesome beast.
I have a solution for those stitches on the seat that become uncomfotable on long rides. You can put a thin blanket or soft mat on the seat. That should take care of the problem. Good review.
We (my family and I) have a 2016 GL350 Bluetec. We love it! However, our lease is up soon and we are looking to replace it. The sad thing is, we don't get the 300/350d in the USA, and with such a big vehicle, the gas consumption is quite large. We would love a new GLS, but the gas consumption as well as price are a little too much. What are some good GLS alternatives? We love the Benzes as much as the next person, but in the real world, we can't all be driving Mercs.
What a great review. I thought at first why this is over 40min long ?But now I watched it I understand and I'm happy it took that long.It was my dream to buy it as I have 3kids and driving an E class w212 at the moment and I'm running out of space as kids growing up. Was thinking this or Viano/Vclass now I'm certain to go for Viano/Vclass. There is no boot space in GLS once the 3rd row of seats is up.I carry 2bicycles almost all the time with me( my littlest boy is only 1y old so not riding yet). Thanks again for great review, will subscribe hoping for more reviews in this style.
Afaik Mercedes designed this one with the US market in mind. Living here in Europe I would rather have a well equipped T6. It's cheaper, more practical/versatile and more fun.
Enjoyable review. Not new to the Brand, but newer owners of a black '14 gl350 Diesel. Whoever thought of bringing the S class interior to the GL deserves a raise. Driving it is like a spa-day that sometimes makes me feel like moving to a bigger/fancier City, since there are none in my small home town, which is why we drive it sparingly since we're not flashy people and don't have big egos to match - we do have that passion for the brand however. Canadians get the AMG cladding and 21s as part of the sport package, without having to buy the GL63 - great styling. Now to buy a new set of continentals - for around $2500. Probably the only vehicle that has made good use of today's available technology-it's got everything, like the reviews of the early R63 in Europe stated - if you were a kid and had to build a car with everything in it - you'd build an R63. THat's what this thing is - with gobs of torque (455 foot pounds).
Hei:-) Good review. With reference to the 3rd row seats, I believe you forgot to mention that the 2nd row seat can adjust the back rest (2 positions I think) . This gives very good space in the 3rd row knee space. The 2nd row passenger do not notice this change:-) I'm 1.86cm and have plenty space in the 3rd row
Very nice review Thomas ! Whaaaaaaat ?? Car looks nice, a bit clumsy square and gigantic. I might prefer the lines of the Q7 or even better sq7. What's your favorite interior ?
=) I'd love the beige Artico / MBTex (so bright colour as seen here but with the sustainable material and without the uncomfortable quilting, check GLS 400 / 450 in the configurator with beige Artico!)
Autofefuhl, would the Range Rover be a competitor to the GLS? Since both are similar size and have air suspension how do they compare in terms of comfort level and reliability. I have heard various opinions about the reliability of Land Rover vehicles. What are your thoughts?
This one clearly leads the riding comfort. The Q7 is sportier on the other hand See details here: ruclips.net/user/results?search_query=audi+q7+autogefuehl
what an excellent review thomas!! I've been waiting this GLS review for so long. Would you choose this car over the Lexus LX? I need your insight on this one. Danke!
A precise review of a precise vehicle. Nice to see one in Germany. Agree you wouldn't want to try and park it in Marbella Spain or other large cities. Comfort is the key principle and MB have done studies on pulse rates in drivers that are lower in the Mercedes due to quiet comfort - a key concept.
A good review. I would have liked to have known whether it has the 7 or 9G Tronic gearbox and whether it's made in Germany or the USA. I think they're important things.
Cant wait to finally see new sat nav and all of those super modern features from S and E class in Mercedes SUVs. Now they are not worth such money if we have for example Q7 on the market. Just look at the dashboard 10:00 ... Cmon Mercedes! its 2017, not 2005 :)
I was going to ask Autogefuehl to review the GLS but I forgot then the next day when I open RUclips it'salready there! Now I have a request, can you compare this with the Q7? Cheers!
***** I'm considering XC90 too, XC90 has great exterior, interior and safety too but I don't know the off road performance of the XC90, I'm trying to find videos about it
Compare the GLS V8 500 550: ruclips.net/video/iZv8aN14HQI/видео.html

Great compliment, couldn't say it better
Jerry Georgopoulos hi, are you still happy with your GLS? Have you had any problems with it? Thanks
What about reliability?
have u ever test drive a diesel gls? How’s the cabin noise comparing to the petrol ones?
One of my favorite proper SUVs currently on the market. I am in love with your German accent! I feel the need to open a Milka bar. Thanks for this review. From The United States of America.
thanks, keep tuning in :)
Hou many prices this car
Very honest review, thank you. Downsized from an Armada to a GL450. Not as spacious, but a very comfortable ride. Also takes off like a sports car.
Was the change worth it?
Fantastic and comprehensive review as always Thomas. Really enjoy your objective and considerate approach to the reviews without sounding too opinionated. It's all very matter of fact presenting the viewer with food for thought. Thanks!

Well the new GLS has it
Until I test drove the Volvo XC90 Twin Motor - this was my favourite 7 seat SUV. The GLS badly needs the glass instrument displays from the S Class.
Clive Sinclair Display* . Not the one in front, analogue gauges are way more sexy
How do you think this compares to the Volvo XC90?
That second row folding is messy and super complicated.... why not just a slide rail...?
I love it. It looks way better than the current Audi Q7 and this is not even the top of line. This car is for people with a lot of stuff and a very busy schedule.
Terry Then what is top of the line? This car is more expensive than a Q7.
AMG GLS 63...you had to ask.
Well, the car is a monster but the review is great as always :)

What happened to the NEW Audi sq5, came out earlier this year and not one has done an review for it.
Review is scheduled for beginning of June
I like this big black Merc gls . I love your review Thomas thanks 👌
thanks pal!
I just check the GLS 450 here is US and it has a different look. the one you are testing in this video is the GLS 550 here with this look.
this one better looking outside than new gls
this is the aesthetic which brings forward revolutions, my friend.
Say What ? brings vibrations ?
Great review, very detailed and thorough. Thank you.
Please Autogefühl/Thomas make a preview of the MERCEDES-BENZ G63/65 and G500 4x4 square,please please please!!!

Hi Tomas, please when you are explaining about the tv screens , turn them to English. Thank you.
awesome review and very informative!
How stable it is at high speeds? Considering it's a big car
I have a solution for those stitches on the seat that become uncomfotable on long rides. You can put a thin blanket or soft mat on the seat. That should take care of the problem. Good review.
Thanks!

How much do these cars go for in Connecticut?
Mercedes always look so luxurious with the cream coloured interior.
as I mentioned you can also get the beige colour in the MBTex/Artico leatherette!
how is its breaking
Are those genuine or fake exhausts?
You are a wonderful lady for shearing all of the information on the 400 and 450

I hate shifting via a steering wheel stalk. :/
Autofefuhl, would the Range Rover be a competitor to the GLS? Since both are similar size and have air suspension how do they compare in terms of comfort level and reliability. I have heard various opinions about the reliability of Land Rover vehicles. What are your thoughts?
Sure u could say so. There are different reliability ratings but its always hard who to trust
Hello, is it a 2WD, or 4WD or i can switch between them, and how is is compared to the toyota prado or land cruiser
only 4WD
Great review, great SUV, I'm a fan of your reviews... But what did you mean by running board looks Hood?
+TheKingkingg thanks! The side boards maybe?
Very mercedes, i have ordered a new c class coupe and have specified artico leather thanks to you 👍🏻
awesome, enjoying cars _and_ thinking about sustainability!

Thomas, great video here in the USA we love big SUVs.I drive a tahoe.
+D Lynch yeah I saw that when I was the last time over pond. Everything is bigger in the U.S. :D
Love the coat Thomas. What make is it please?
I really don’t like the massive merc emblem on the front of the car nor the bulky dash screen, the modern inbuilt screen are much nicer.
After one month without internet connection,I have a lot of work (35 enjoyable videos from you!) :-D
Oh wow u got a lot of catching up to do :)
This vehicle is amazing. Would’ve loved for you to show the voice command. Maybe next one👍🏽Thanks for your efforts
Best suv in the world :)
Love the GLS but its outdated! looking for the new GLS to arrive (2018/ 2019)! but seems New GLE will be introduced anytime soon.
Where did you get your jacket .. I want one ASAP.
Thomas I would like to see you conducting your thorough review about the Toyota CHR. I am interested in this car. Thank you in advance. Michael.
thanks Michael, I ll ask for it!

Does it support apple CarPlay or AndroiD Auto ?
+Mo Alk no
Hei Thomas can you pinky please do a M4/M3 review?! :D maybe for the future some comparison videos would be cool.
Hey m8, let s what we can do. A normal 3-Series review or the Hybrid would also be great
Great review. I agree with others. Audi Q7 would be my choice but the GLS will smash it in the US.
thanks andrew!
This is bigger than the Cadillac Escalade?
nah they should come close, the base model length of the Escalade at least is same length
"Whaaaaat !" lol.
Great job as usual Autgefühl !!
PS: I love the coat Thomas.
A good review. I would have liked to have known whether it has the 7 or 9G Tronic gearbox and whether it's made in Germany or the USA. I think they're important things.
thanks Paul!
assembled at Mercedes-Benz US International, Inc, in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama
And 7G Tronic, the 9G is for the 500 / 550 and the 350d
Thank you for getting back to me with the information so fast, most professional of you.
you re welcome, keep supporting us!
Great review. We take delivery next wk of a 2019 450. Thx
Thanks! Cool, enjoy!
When the full review of the 2017 seat ibiza ?
Coming up, just finished editing :)
Thinking about airing it Monday evening
Thank you for the answer.

Just look at the dashboard 10:00 ... Cmon Mercedes! its 2017, not 2005 :)

why you don't compare GLS with Audi Q7?I think they are in same class.

Autogefühl You do it well!
spread the word for us! :)
what about the Range Rover? Could it be considered a competitor?
Kind of. More to GLE. Maybe Range Rover Long wheel base if available in ur market
Autogefühl that’s an interesting view point. I always considered them to be in the same niche because of the exterior size and price similarity.
5 seater vs 7 seater
My dream car, it is really a monster. I love it!
THIS IS BETTER THAN GL. THE FRONT IS HIGHER
I was going to ask Autogefuehl to review the GLS but I forgot then the next day when I open RUclips it'salready there! Now I have a request, can you compare this with the Q7? Cheers!
=)

***** what is your opinion about the Q7 design compared to this GLS?
RB26DETT I like the benz styling more however the q7 looks smaller
***** I'm considering XC90 too, XC90 has great exterior, interior and safety too but I don't know the off road performance of the XC90, I'm trying to find videos about it
