    I recently had a GL350 and put over 100,000Ks on it over four years. It was very comfortable, reliable and economical (particularly on freeways). Also, in spite of its size, very easy to drive in cities thanks to good visibility, the relatively small turning circle and great camera system.

    I have the GL500 because I have three small kids.
    It's very relaxing to drive in vacation, you have more than enough space and the comfort is exquisite. The S class of the SUV for sur.
    This vehicle is not very common in France where I live, and often the people ask me what's is.
    Unfortunately if have a problem with it, I have vibrations at low revs and the garage doesn't seems to find what cases this.

    We own a 2014 GL550 and other than the infotainment system I couldn't tell these two SUVs apart. Though the refresh was negligible I recommend this vehicle to buyers in this segment because it offers an excellent driving experience, versatility and functionality. The escalade is an excellent choice but I prefer the Mercedes design better. Thomas, as always, thank you for presenting this marvelous piece of engineering. Well done!

    Two thing this car is missing and i would love to see in the up coming models which are 1- head up display projector 2- the wide screen that comes on the E class. And head up display is more important in my opinion!

    Until I test drove the Volvo XC90 Twin Motor - this was my favourite 7 seat SUV. The GLS badly needs the glass instrument displays from the S Class.

      @DavidBoy333 7 лет назад +4

      I test drove both the D5 and T6 versions of the XC90, I ended up buying the X5 30d, I personally like the interior of the XC90 more, but when it came to the engineering bits like noise cancellation, body roll, on road performance I just personally think that the Swedes have a lot to improve to catch up with Benz, BMW, Audi. The D5 was wayyyy tooo noisy for a premium SUV. T6 with a super+turbo charged 4 banger is a great concept but the real world fuel econyomy is around 12-14L/100KM which you could achieve with the 6cylinder diesel versions with the German rivals i just mentioned. Plus a 6 cylinder unit with todays technology I personally believe the power output is way smoother. Just my humble opinion

    • @3204clivesinclair
      @3204clivesinclair 7 лет назад +1

      I agree about the motor. However here in the UK diesels are becoming a problem. There are strong indications that diesels may be banned, or require to pay a charge to enter cities. Central Government has already approved local Governments the power that charge diesel drivers.
      They are also taking about forcing owners of older diesels to scrap their cars - with some sort of payment incentive.
      So after many years of diesel cars, my new car this year will be petrol. The XC90is probably the most economical of the large petrol powered SUV's - but yes, it's not very refined and it certainly isn't a Cayenne or X5 round the twisty bits, bit that depends how you drive.

    • @DavidBoy333
      @DavidBoy333 7 лет назад +1

      I would prob go for a Range Rover Sport if I were in UK with the supercharged V6 version. but ofc the XC90 is slightly bigger in size, In fact I felt even more cramped in the driver seat when i test drove the Sport vs my X5 plus the rear boot is slightly smaller. however RR Sport is way more luxury inside compared to the XC90. If ur chooseing the T8 engine with a few options u could prob get a AUTOBIOGRAPHY trim level with the supercharged v6 at the same price. and since its a hybrid system in theT8, I wouldnt think that the reliability would be any better than RR even though RR are not particularly known for their reliability.
      Another problem with Volvo is just the image of the car. RR and Benz has basically been the benchmark for the luxury car segment (excluding the very high end Rolls, Bentley) and are continuing to raise the bar. My friend has a S500 and I was impressed by how much more luxury it was compared to my X5 even though I had extra covered leather dashboard option. In fact even the Sport just feels, looks, drives way more luxurious than the XC90. It feels more planted on the road, softer and is a lot more quiet.

    We (my family and I) have a 2016 GL350 Bluetec. We love it! However, our lease is up soon and we are looking to replace it. The sad thing is, we don't get the 300/350d in the USA, and with such a big vehicle, the gas consumption is quite large. We would love a new GLS, but the gas consumption as well as price are a little too much. What are some good GLS alternatives? We love the Benzes as much as the next person, but in the real world, we can't all be driving Mercs.

    What a great review. I thought at first why this is over 40min long ?But now I watched it I understand and I'm happy it took that long.It was my dream to buy it as I have 3kids and driving an E class w212 at the moment and I'm running out of space as kids growing up. Was thinking this or Viano/Vclass now I'm certain to go for Viano/Vclass. There is no boot space in GLS once the 3rd row of seats is up.I carry 2bicycles almost all the time with me( my littlest boy is only 1y old so not riding yet). Thanks again for great review,will subscribe hoping for more reviews in this style.

    Enjoyable review. Not new to the Brand, but newer owners of a black '14 gl350 Diesel. Whoever thought of bringing the S class interior to the GL deserves a raise. Driving it is like a spa-day that sometimes makes me feel like moving to a bigger/fancier City, since there are none in my small home town, which is why we drive it sparingly since we're not flashy people and don't have big egos to match - we do have that passion for the brand however. Canadians get the AMG cladding and 21s as part of the sport package, without having to buy the GL63 - great styling. Now to buy a new set of continentals - for around $2500. Probably the only vehicle that has made good use of today's available technology-it's got everything, like the reviews of the early R63 in Europe stated - if you were a kid and had to build a car with everything in it - you'd build an R63. THat's what this thing is - with gobs of torque (455 foot pounds).

    how does the ride and comfort compare to that of the Q7?

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  7 лет назад +2

      This one clearly leads the riding comfort. The Q7 is sportier on the other hand

    A precise review of a precise vehicle. Nice to see one in Germany. Agree you wouldn't want to try and park it in Marbella Spain or other large cities. Comfort is the key principle and MB have done studies on pulse rates in drivers that are lower in the Mercedes due to quiet comfort - a key concept.

    Great review. I agree with others. Audi Q7 would be my choice but the GLS will smash it in the US.

    A good review. I would have liked to have known whether it has the 7 or 9G Tronic gearbox and whether it's made in Germany or the USA. I think they're important things.

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  7 лет назад +3

      thanks Paul!
      assembled at Mercedes-Benz US International, Inc, in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama
      And 7G Tronic, the 9G is for the 500 / 550 and the 350d

    Cant wait to finally see new sat nav and all of those super modern features from S and E class in Mercedes SUVs. Now they are not worth such money if we have for example Q7 on the market.
    Just look at the dashboard 10:00 ... Cmon Mercedes! its 2017, not 2005 :)

      ***** I'm considering XC90 too, XC90 has great exterior, interior and safety too but I don't know the off road performance of the XC90, I'm trying to find videos about it
