I think of myself as one of the lucky people who has made this into a career. It took me five years to write my first book and then I wasted a year and a half trying to get a publishing deal before I stumbled into the concept of self-publishing. I didn't even know it was a thing. Book 1 went live in June 2017 and buoyed by the excitement, I wrote book 2 in five months. I sold about $18.00 worth of books by the end of the year.
I quit my job in September 2019, just eight weeks after attending my first 20Books conference. By then I had fifteen books under my belt, was taking $5000.00 a month, and had been grinding flat out for many months to get to a point where I could go full-time.
By dedicating myself to always learning one more thing and focusing hard on marketing and selling my books, I have been able to generate a seven-figure income. I have written more than eighty books, I have a small press that will generate circa $250000.00 this year, a translation service, four assistants, and I am still just scratching the surface of what is possible.

I went and tried it out and it's amazing. I didn't realise what a thrill it would be to hear my book narrated by someone else. It coped pretty well with the fantasy names, too.

I can see AI voices getting good enough to be at the level of really good voice actors a long, long time before AI is up for writing anything worth reading.

You must not ever use AI. It's so far from being able to write alone it's crazy.
