    I ride 105 mechanical with an 11-30 cassette. I just looked up the specs, the 105 12 speed cassette is exactely the same, all it does is add on a 34. All the other steps are the same: 11-12-13-14-15-17-19-21-24-27-30 vs 11-12-13-14-15-17-19-21-24-27-30-34 ......not a bad thing, just worth a thought

    I’d go SRAM Rival etap if I was looking to go for an electric group set. Perhaps a Rival vs 105 video???

    In 2020 I got a brand new bike equipped with full 105 for much less than the current price of the new group set alone, none sense.

    I'm currently riding on the r7000 mechanical 105 groupset (on a decent, mid-range alloy gravel bike) and I see no reason to switch to Di2 as long as replacement parts are available. The Di2 version of 105 is less expenisve than Ultegra but still expensive, and it's about 300g heavier than r7000. I haven't actually seen the Di2 in person yet, but the mechanical version I use works really well, and I can't imagine that the new version would be a total game-changer. When I eventually go to an electronic groupset, which seems inevitable whether I want to go there or not, I'll probably opt for SRAM. It's less expensive, it's a more flexible system, and, crucially, it's totally wireless, which is pretty important to anyone who intends to do most of their own maintenance. I can't help but think that Shimano misjudged the market with this one.

    In my opinion, Shimano has shot themselves in the foot. No more 105 mechanical, so for those wanting a good group set at a reasonable price, they're out of luck. Then, for millions of riders like myself who are still riding rim brakes, they can't move to this Di2 group set because it's only available for disc brakes. Lastly, the cost of the new 105 Di2 group set is way too high, or should I say way too close to the cost of the Ultegra Di2 group set which is still available for rim brakes. I don't like having my choices forced upon me. I would have been more than willing to give the 105 Di2 group set a chance had they made it for a more reasonable cost and had an option for rim brakes. As it stands, I'll stick with my mechanical Ultegra group set, and in the future will have a closer look at the quality Chinese group sets that are now on the market.

    Feels like road bikes are now just been marketed to those who race. Di2, is probably great but I certainly don’t want or need electronic shifting for commuting to work or a ride out along country lanes. Tbh it’s making me question if, when I need a new bike, it should even be a road bike.

    I'm building up a bike with an Allez Sprint frameset and the new 105 Di2 is just too heavy. With the old 105 R7000, the bike would weigh about 8.8 kg without pedals. Unfortunately, you can't get the complete group at the moment.
    I hope that Shimano will bring out an new attractive Tiagra 11-speed group (rebranded 105 R7000).

  • @AllanPhillips

    Does 105 really have servo wave? I thought that would was reserved for Dura Ace and Ultegra.

      It doesn’t have servo wave. Only current Ultegra, Dura-Ace and GRX does.

    105 Di2 is a nice idea but not justifiable for me at this point. Especially as it doesn’t have satellite shifters on the hoods. From a performance perspective a new wheelset would be a better upgrade for me.

    Made a mistake being disk only being as ultegra and dura ace being avaliable still in rim. Makes me wonder how many people would be upgrading a disk groupset as they are still relatively new, they would surely be getting more people upgrading rim brake groupsets?
    New kit is looking good too 👌

    seeing posts of Di2 owners trying to troubleshoot their system (unresponsive etc.) Ive wasted far too much time of my life trying to troubleshoot pc issues than to try to seek out new ways to find frustration in my life. Di2 is where we part ways, shimano

    The only advantage I see with the 105 Di2 r-der over Ultegra or Dura Ace is it allows a bigger 36T cog vs 34T cog. The lack of a clutch rules it out for dirt use. I am not sure I need 2X12.

    • @jarhead4657
      @jarhead4657 2 года назад

    • @mister_ray
      @mister_ray 2 года назад

      Because as far as I know Shimano does not offer a 12 speed specific Di2 gravel or MTB group set. The video mentioned the 105 Di2 group set on a CX bike.
