@@whitefox25 Yeah, but imagine running AI training battles for days just to grind. I did that once and never again. That said, the option to do so being nerfed by a level cap and group EXP is a heavy handed way of going about it.
Same. Most of the video creator's complaints were intentionally removed (i.e. grinding one character to an obscenely high level instead of capping the teams level to encourage, you know, teamwork and tactics) to improve the game. Also, complaining about "too many characters" and the story being "too complex" just seems lazy.
How is it an “artificial” difficulty wall if you can’t grind past it? Isnt that the definition of a legitimate difficulty since you can’t trivialize it by spending more time? If the game was designed around grinding that would be a disrespect to players’ time. This game is amazing precisely because the developers designed everything to beaten without grinding. It respects the players time and makes each battle feel more rewarding as a result.
Honestly this review just feels like you dont enjoy having to actually plan out battles and just wish you could powerlevel and 1 shot everything like in Fire Emblem.
Honestly, I can't wait to play this game: I've never had the chance to play the original and I'm starving for a "classic" srpg. Triangle Strategy left me with a bitter aftertaste and I can't wait to dive into a more "customizable" game within the genre!
@@masterwitchersir habbit, Some people say 'like' the whole time too and I have a work colleague who says 'actually' every sentance. example: 'Actually had a really nice time on holiday actually and the weather was actually really nice actually. You should go sometime you would be surprised actually.' No one has the heart to bring it up because its so deeply ingrained in the way she speaks now its kinda endearing lol
This will satisfy you. I like triangle strategy as well. This is better. It's not exactly the same though, less fire emblem 3 houses like and more FFT-like. A bit less involving story, but branching storylinepaths unlike FFT but like TS and deep endgame dungeon content. Deeper than FFT's. The labyrinth of the dead. And have you played the "golden path" in TS yet though?
Level caps are fun.. They make you think of other ways beside grinding to overcome the challenges that the game offer. Also maybe a better criticism should be the mission objectives.. Compared to Fire Emblem and Triangle Strategy, I think both FFT & TO lacks varied objectives other than defeat all & defeat boss.
People are being rude over someone saying a opinion. He didn't say the game is bad, just that he's not getting into it that much. There's a modern example of good difficulty and good QOL like Triangle Strategy, the kind of son of Tactics Ogre, so i think it's valid if some characteristics are not resounding with you.
I respect your take about theres too much unit to control, it really comes to preference. I always like using 14+ units in older Fire Emblem, it really feels like a strategy game where I need to group my units into smaller group of dps, tank and healer.
I grew up with this game and its remained one of my all time favorites. I still have a psp to this day mostly so I can go back and start a new playthrough of this game whenever the urge strikes me. I still have my original save file from when I was 14 where I cleared the game on all 3 paths and finished the CODA. It's got over 100 hours on it. It felt like divine providence when reborn released literally on my birthday but I was so disappointed. Many of the changes feel like less of an improvement on the original and more like a design shift with the main goal being to streamline things. In a game that I really enjoyed for its crunchy complexity and depth compared to its contemporaries like fire emblem and FFT that was a punch to the nuts. I know a lot of the skills in the original were just stat boosts but there was a lot of customization that's just gone from this game. The mage classes feel really bad to play for this same reason. In the psp version mages basically traded some dmg when compared to the weapon classes in order to have this massive repertoire of direct/indirect/AOE dmg, buffs, debuffs,CC ect. At least until endgame when they got summons which were busted. Now you just pick four. The randomness in the battles also makes my strategies feel impotent. Instead of carefully building up tp on my squishy berserker in order to sanguine assault and launch a finishing move in tandem with some ranged fire to burst down a tough unit stalling my push I now must pray it procs and also pray for good buff card spawns near multiple units in order to do enough dmg to chew through the enemies beefed up HP pools. I've won battles without having to think even a little just because I got blessed by the buff cards. Similarly I've found myself in what feel like impossible situations because the enemies got all the good luck. Personally I think it's really bad game design to remove the strategy from your strategy game in favor of randomness. Sorry for the ranty comment. I was just so excited to play what I thought was basically gonna be the psp version with souped up graphics, voice acting, new music and, balance changes. Only to get... this.
This is the FINEST S-rpg experience to ever exist to this day ! The amount of improvements and attention to small details by the devs in the gameplay mechanics is outright SCARY ! Everything you'd expect from a remake like this and then some.
If you can’t grind… then that isn’t artificial difficulty. Is it designed to be difficult? Yes. Is it designed to be beatable? Yes. Idk.. it’s like calling chess artificially difficult. It’s just difficult, in a good way. That being said, this game does have (in my opinion) an incredibly tough first chapter. But once the PLAYER learns the mechanics, and how to build out a team/ placements it gets MUCH easier. You get better at realizing you walked yourself into a bad position, and know to reset a battle sooner than later. This game has an amazing story and a ton of great content. But it requires a bit of effort on the players part…. Something most games don’t require anymore sadly
So your criticism of the game is the battles actually require you to think and make the best plays, as opposed to being able to grind and out level your enemies and just mindlessly walk all over them..... o....k.
You have to admit that there’s a subjective line between “difficult” and “tedious”, right? It’s not like every game is made with the goal of being the hardest game in existence, there are other factors to consider. The review even pointed out that your results may vary, and you should definitely pick the game up if you’re not worried about the difficulty spikes.
Honestly, just picked this up and while I agree, this issue is about five down on the list of issues I have so far: 1.) EXP per action is removed, except for weapons and magic skills. 2.) The UI is difficult to read at times, as some of the hotkeyed options are super frigging tiny. As someone with astigmatism, it just hurts my eyes. 3.) They kept all the unnecessary crap from the PSP version, such as the FFTA weapon sprites and extraneous characters that added little to the story. 4.) There's no option to play the original SFC/PS1 versions. Mostly because I miss the crisp, aliased sprites and pixel art portraits. 5.) Equipment is more tied to classes than the original and they could have easily just made it so certain classes progress in those skills faster. Oh, and class markers to change jobs is kind of dumb too. 6.) This is the level caps. I get why they did- but it does rob the player a chance to blow through the game if they so choose. Always prefer freedom of choice in playstyle than railroading players into a forced experience. That said, while I have several gripes with it, level cap included, I still think it's worth getting.
I'm getting "This wasn't bad, but not for me" vibes from the review. I think I'm going to pick it up though because the downsides don't seem to so bad to me.
@@TheGamingShelf I have trouble believing you're into T-RPGs honestly. The meat / fun of the games has always been their lengthy battles, but you want them shorter? You want less gameplay? wtf. It's like saying you love platform games but you'd like to skip the platforming.
It's definitely has a steep learning curve but luckily there is a niche community that's always willing to help. I got LUCT back in 2010 when I was 16 and I couldn't make it passed the first chapter. I've been playing reborn since February on my switch and ps4 and I still haven't finished the main story. I picked up triangle strategy last week and tbh the long story and info dumping is overwhelming. Reborn is all meat and battle and TS is all fat, with im guessing is a great story. Best of luck!
For MP healing you can use Fruit of the Adept (heal 10% HP and MP), which can be crafted from buyable shop items and works great in late-game when you have more MP.
The large parties and vast amount of characters on your team also make me not get attached to anyone, and big battles do take too long. Can't wait for FFT though!
This situation feels like when videogamedunkey gave Octopath Traveler a bad review and people couldn't understand that videogamedunkey's opinion isn't other people's opinion. Just because someone else doesn't like the game that you like, it doesn't make your opinions of the game wrong. The reasons why he doesn't like Tactics Ogre Reborn could be reasons why someone likes Tactics Ogre Reborn. It's not like he's pushing people not to buy it, he actually says if the problems he listed are alright with you, then you absolutely have to play this game. Why do people feel like they're being attacked when someone doesn't like the same game as them?
Sometimes I wonder whether those people understand that reviews are also for potential players that are, in fact, not fans of a game/series/genre or are just getting started. Like, there are so many games I got to enjoy because someone dared to be negative and I was able to judge whether that was a dealbreaker for me, and if I still went for it (like Octopath lol) could mentally prepare for that negative aspect while playing. Sometimes I even enjoyed it, like weapon breaking in BOTW 😂
It’s obviously a design choice to make the game hard with limited resources/material. So i think you could say that this game is not made for people who just wanna plow through the story. You will need to take time and strategize.
It's not made for newcomers either. If I couldn't use cheat engine to give myself some money, I would have quit. I'm not restarting such a lengthy game from the start just because I mismanaged the initial 30,000 goths. Just another poor decision from S-E, but we're getting used to them by now. They stopped playtesting before releasing a long time ago.
@@dwiatmika9563 while I wouldn’t exactly say easy it’s not as hard as they are making it out to be especially once you learn you can farm for invite money and resources from dungeon and how op items can be
There are several dungeons in the game with repeatable battles for drops. The first is in chapter 2. That's how you can grind more money. (they've also found a crafting exploit that can basically get you infinite money)
Beating this game on no incapacitation rules is infuriating. I got the last boss to half HP and he randomly landed on a crit card and wiped one of my units. I was done for the day. Honestly, the only thing I hate about this game is the buff cards. Besides the fact that they clog up the screen, they're just generally annoying. I'd have rather seen enemies with higher stats than having a bunch of cards to go collect. I'm sure most people would disagree, but bosses getting to spam finishers because they start with MP regen cards and two physical attack buffs is just stupid.
@@TheGamingShelf Yeah, you nail it with the voice. I also love that the channel talks alot about the more traditional Japanese RPG’s. I feel like the good ones can be hard to find these days as they are not the triple A games they used to be in the PS1 days. I’v found some great games through your channel.
I love your voice and this review video is nicely put together, keep up the good work! And wow, some people really go off, everyone has their preferences and playstyle definitely. I know I'll enjoy my time with this game just awaiting for its arrival.
Here's the issue I have. The PSP release was fantastic. But Square-Enix's brand new team for this project messed with a lot of the balance of the game, removed whole features. •No random battles Which remove level grinding options as well as unit recruitment options. •Tweaks to classes and spells They nefted several formally useful spells and ablitites and dammed up the overall amount of luck points characters earn on each level up, making critical hits much less common. So you need to go after the blue cards. •Level caps added to the game to restrict power plays. This basically means that you can't have fun spending a bit of time leveling up a bit to make battles easier. It also removes the other staple of the series... enemy levels increasing with your mean party level. So capping encounter levels removes several tactical options and kills all speed run options for low level runs. This was all done to remove options for how people could play the game. So if the left over remaster/demastered port feels lacking, or otherwise more difficult that's all due to this group of noobs who threw this game balance into a blender and dictated that there is only one way to enjoy the game. I would highly recommend the PSP release over this "remaster". If you don't have that option, wait for a sale, buy this version and emulate the PSP game instead. At the very least you will then be able to see the reasons this release is lacking in several areas. (I wish they would have just made those revisions and kept the original PSP release as an option, but with the visual updates.)
@@Mac_Omegaly eh, I personally found the game balance of the PSP version to be terrible, there are just too many things that are broken and Overpowered, to where you purposely have to gimp yourself or the game just becomes far too easy. At one point in my playthrough I had one character soloing entire maps... where is the fun in that? I have yet to play this version yet, as I only just received it in the mail a couple hours ago, so I cant comment on whether the changes are for the better or worse, but the psp version as much as I loved my time with it, had many flaws that become worse as you go progress through the game.
@@Mac_Omegaly I dunno I think it all sounds fantastic and fun. I like that you cant outlevel the challenge, I like that there are no random encounters but you can grind at your own pace, I like the visual updates, time will tell on the game balance in terms of spells and weapons and whatnot I will have to see but I like a challenge and I know its weird but I like knowing when I am struggling on a part of a game that is tough that many others are probably struggling too. I love coming to the internet after beating a game and discussing the most difficult parts and all who beat it can relate because its the same difficulty setting for all. (Anor Londo archers anyone?) Its kinda old school and I dig it. I do see your points though and can respect it especially if low level runs is something that interests you.
Playing this all night yesterday it's pretty good. I agree the 3d models look dated, I actually wish they would explain all the different status effects like what the hell does bereach do (lowers phys def in wiki)? I love playing it blind like playing tactics all over again, omg and I did not know you need to exorcise dead units or else they revive, that on early battle against that lvl 7 old dude necromancer at lvl 5 was brutal for me but it was hella satisfying when I beat it lol. I also really like that they added the AI for some units if you don't need to control them too much, but so far haven't used it yet. Definitely though this game was developed with a labor of love and it shows, lot of thinking and planning went into this game its definitely fun. The weekend can't come fast enough! lol
its crazier than you think. Breach would seem to lower defense of the target, but it doesn't. Instead it increases the damage the target takes. The difference matters cuz of stats alteration vs a % damage increase post stat consideration.
Then I would say don't play March of the black queen as it's more unit micro management, but you'll be missing out in one of the best ogre battle games. I'm waiting for a remake of March of the black queen. Comon square
It's not up to the modern standards, but if you have the PC for it the Saturn version of MotBQ got an english patch a few month ago. You have a few additional maps, more vibrant colors, no loading screen like in the PSX port and Japanese voice acting !
@@TheGamingShelf haha! I'm playing Sonic Frontiers on Switch and man I am loving every second of it. You? Or you still trying to "GIT GUD" on tactics hahaha!
I dont care for the character battle menu being right under the character you use. I also wish I could cycle through multiple enemies that are within my attack range. I have other issues as well. 7/10
Thanks for having the balls to criticize games that force level caps to force difficulty. A lot of people in the comments are butthurt that you want to play a game differently than they do, and it's because they get their self identity at being good at these games when in reality nobody else cares that someone else is good at a single player game and there is nothing wrong with people who want an easier. People need to stop acting like they are cool or impressive for being so. The reality is that nobody is impressed. These games are made for entertainment and someone else wanting to grind and make it a power fantasy doesn't effect you. I'm impressed you gave your real opinion here and weren't scared from the get gud mob that is toxic around gaming these days. I played and completed the PSP version and love this game, but not liking a level cap is a very reasonable take in a genre that has been built for generations around the concept that you can always level up and build your characters, something that isn't forced on anyone if they don't want to play that way. I'm not a fan of video games giving you less options in how you play them.
@@Mac_Omegaly I know this is a crucifiable opinion, but when I death marched for Cressida I was in sheer ecstasy, and will always look back on the memory as one of my favorite accomplishments in a game. It is the only game I ever truly 100%d thanks to the loot table guides and advice of the old regulars on gamefaqs.
Lol, no it doesn't. Grinding just adds unnecessary time that you could be spent playing the story and enjoying the combat. I'm glad they capped the levels so that actual strategy is involved when playing. Grinding 10 levels shouldn't be the solution to defeating a boss. That just cheapens the gameplay and mechanics
Different classes for different opportunities. Recently started using terror knights to inflict fear debuf and let's just say with the right units you can practically one shot units.
You weren't doing much damage to the bosses most likely because you weren't using the correct damage type. Most bosses go down in one turn or two when you get up to them. You can go into optional dungeons for drops for money so that point was stupid. You have to think about your composition, your positioning, skills etc more than your level. It is not the kind of game that is made so you can grind any challenge away. That is a modern JRPG you're looking for.
Anyone reading this, DO NOT make your choice based on this review. He clearly wasn't interested in this title in the beginning but jumped on the hype train. No different from people discovering David lynch then proceeding to talk about how they hate his work when it clearly isn't for them to begin with. This game is an OG of the genre. Probably should've done some research first if you never played the psp port.
It's a classic rpg, simple. Classic RPGs don't hold your hand... it's a whole design philosophy of the time, like it or not. It's just like many if not every classic rpg franchise has newer fans (could even be passionate diehard fans) who only grew with newer games and actually suffer with the early games, because of those early game design traits.
you were talking like a fan of the genre but you don't really seem to appreciate the simple things about these kinds of tactics games. for example, when i play these games, i always hope to be able to play as many characters as possible. you saying 8 is what you want when many of these games have a low end cap of 10 and max of 15 really makes you seem to not know the genre well.
Oh wow I can't believe people actually didn't like the game, I completed this game twice on PSP. Btw you can set all your units to AI if you think it's a chore. The AI in this game is brilliant, it knows what to prioritize. It's a good idle game, actually better than those mobile games
Feel you on this. I've played my fair share of tactics RPGs, but i just can't get into tactics ogre. Its not the difficulty exactly, its just that it feels challenging in a way that is not fun for me. So "Git Gud" isnt really the answer and ill much rather spend time on other games
"Under-served" is one way of putting it. I sometimes feel like I don't even like SRPGs. Most games that do it don't even have a point to it; they use flat, uninteresting maps, very little strategic depth, and/or stupid AI. It seems like they just take JRPGs and put them on a grid because it looks cooler Tactics Ogre is one of the greats (only topped by FFT). I haven't played the remake much, but the only problem I have so far is the stupid buff cards. If you could turn those off, I think it would be perfect
I really havent started playing strategy rogs until like 2 years ago but I will say since then triangle strategy has definitely been my favorite....I also liked diofield chronicles too but it was so short.....I'm liking tactics ogre but it nowhere near as good as triangle strategy....I also do hate the level cap in this game until you progress the story....it has been very annoying
How do you feel about stories like Game of Thrones? I'm asking because your opinion on it helps let people know how objective your opinion of this type of story may be. It's important to disclaim any strong unique dislikes you have so viewers can make informed decisions on whether to take your opinions on certain genres with a grain of salt.
I spent a hundred hours on the 1st game. This new version is as complicated as Disgaea, with 10% the fun. I just completed chapter 2 and I'm done. I'll pull out my PS 1 and replay the original.
Hey I'm considering buying this, mind telling me the big bad changes from the original, I remember playing it so long ago that I've forgotten most except that I loved it. But hearing they changed stuff worries me.
@@nameisbad They removed the rouge class completely (unless you hack it back in via cheat), they impose a level cap on chapters until you beat the game, they recently nerfed a bunch of weapons because it wasn't hard enough, they removed hybrid customization by removing skills from classes so that means you have to play a class one dimensional (a tank is a tank, dps is dps, heals is heals...no hybrid builds viability unlike the psp version). There is NO random battles, the battles are now restricted to stories and instance maps (wild areas/hell gate) even then the loot is crap.
@@CL-os5cz I don't mind the difficulty increase, as I'm someone who hates grinding to beat stuff but instead I'd rather just play better. Outside the difficulty, for the other issues you mentioned, would you say it's still worth it?
@@nameisbad You still have to grind your proficiency with weapons so you'll have to deal with that no matter what. (after beating the game) I don't recommend the game unless it's on sale for 20$ or less (which it will be), but if you're a HUGE massive fan of the Ogre series, then give it a go. Its still the same game; just with a level cap, 2 new characters artwork (non playable), Role playing restrictions classes if you're into that (a knight is a knight, archer is an archer). edit for spelling
I really don't see how people claim this game is a masterpiece. I had absolutely no attachment to the main cast at all and never bothered to use them in battle, other than being forced to use Denam and just dropped it after halfway or so into chapter 3. The music and voice acting is nice, but the soft, rounded sprites are just plain ugly to look at. I also agree that battles just feel waaaay too drawn out and found myself just using a couple barbarians and rune fencers cleared things out while mages and archers could only try doing chip damage or a couple debuffs. For the original release it may have been "the crown jewel" of tactical rpgs, but now with this version, it just feels like a slow, tedious slog to get through.
yeah if the battle system is tedious i'm not gonna spend my time ''getting gud''. i am intrested in this game since im giving more tactical Rpg's a try this year , but i think im gonna wait for a price drop. thanks for the review taylor.
Its a tactics game, its not really tedious, but waiting on a price drop is fine. Just remember when you play it yourself you're gonna be like wow, the reviewer just sounds like he wants to overlever to plow through the game is all.
@@Raytheman581 the player shouldn't be told what level they must be though. It's legitimate like his too many guys complaint which yeah brigandine takes a while as does langrisser if you hire troops for everyone.
@@MrVariant it can be ligitamate but it's not an objective fact and varies by persons wants and likes. I see it like soul games having no difficulty slider and people saying they shouldn't be told I have to play a hard game. I mean before enemies could level with you at a certain point anyway and they'd have strong gear to boot if you leveled to much. So it's not a feature that's wholly new in trying to stop people from overleveling
@@MrVariant Oh yeah, I forgot about that. Even the last one scarlet grace even on easy its still not really easy as the enemies still keep pace with you, but you can level however you want and enemies will still pretty much kill you just as easily no matter what level. I turned it down to easy and was still getting my ass kicked at one point, until I learned how to really play the game.
If all you were gonna say is "game too hard i have to think too much" then the only thing you really like abt strategy games is the story. I love fft but it's too easy to break, the fft 1.3 insane difficulty mod is a full rebalancing of the game which seems a lot harder until you realize you didn't know anything abt fft and its mechanics and this mod forces you to learn them in order to play effectively. Dorter in chap 1 is impossible until i watched a walkthrough and realized i knew nothing abt the game mechanics all along. Well not that i didn't know the mechanics but rather the og fft never gave me a reason to experiment or anything, i could just run up and attack everything or over level.
To me, the game felt half finished... the classes are boring and limited, the way they just don't bleed skills into each feels very lackluster, the itemization is very limited compared to much older games like fft, the story feels very shallow and not well written... the card system is really immersion breaking, the class changing tokens are really, really bad (you cannot "test" for stats without spending some of those), and there is a really bad information lacking, like what spells a class can use or what items a class can wear/wield (if there is, I havent found it, might be my bad) which makes me waste resources because I don't know what classes can wield a weapon until I spend a classmark.
Are you just like slow or something? All your complaints about ui are addressed in the menus if you actually took time to look. Never had to spend classmarks to find out what class equips what? That just sounds like a complaint you'd get from someone that just didn't bother to press the right directional button to see who can equip who. Story is shallow? A story with 3 branching paths that are actually different and not just small changes? Sounds like you didn't even play the game to be making these complaints.
Haven't played this game myself, but I really don't like how the power up cards clutter the battlefield. It's so aesthetically displeasing to see them hovering all over the place.
Love the Final Fantasy Tactics series but, yeah, I'm out on this one. Returning my copy to Amazon today. I have the PSP version, but couldn't get into it as I too found the story less engrossing, and the high number of units a chore, especially when there are so many choices at your disposal. The level cap is the final straw, I think. Hope those who love these deeps games enjoy it, but for me, I'll just stick to the FFT titles. And Stella Deus.
I agree with u I had a lot of flaws. Because yes it is a not a tactic like. But even for an rpg it is lacking and I loved the first final fantasy tactics it is one of my favorite games of all time The fact u can't have more than four skills /spells. The music and the areas. But everything else. Feels too slow. And it takes a really long time to upgrade anything. In this game. Compared to Fire Emblem three houses. and Final fantasy tactic. And even the final dungeons Are really bad put together. but in the end. I'm not saying you shouldn't buy this game. But just know what you are getting in to. But for me it's a 5/10.

I have heard complaints about a few battles where the difficulty spikes.
Honestly this review just feels like you dont enjoy having to actually plan out battles and just wish you could powerlevel and 1 shot everything like in Fire Emblem.
That's exactly what he wants. Maybe some sort of casual difficulty.
I am absolutely loving this game. Nice review, but interestingly enough, your criticisms were points of the game that I enjoyed
I for one love the larger unit numbers, and resource management. I love the finite supplies here, and I love it in Fire Emblem too.
Then you'll love this!
This game is a perfect srpg.
Honestly, I can't wait to play this game: I've never had the chance to play the original and I'm starving for a "classic" srpg. Triangle Strategy left me with a bitter aftertaste and I can't wait to dive into a more "customizable" game within the genre!
What's with everyone that comments on RUclips and reddit, starting their comments with the word, "honestly' and "tbh"
@@masterwitchersir Honestly,IDK. Tbh. TTFN.
Guarantee you won't be disappointed Luca. On my honor as RPG gamer.
Funnily enough, Fire Emblem is lacking in that too past the 10th entry.
So your criticism of the game is the battles actually require you to think and make the best plays, as opposed to being able to grind and out level your enemies and just mindlessly walk all over them..... o....k.
That’s what I got out of this too.
He’s a horrible gamer.
This is why I hate modern fire emblems and the likes it ruined what people perceive as isomeric tactics games.
This dude plays mobile games
Honestly, just picked this up and while I agree, this issue is about five down on the list of issues I have so far:
1.) EXP per action is removed, except for weapons and magic skills.
4. I agree with so much, I don't like the psp and reborn versions. I prefer the gritty and permadeath version.
I'm getting "This wasn't bad, but not for me" vibes from the review. I think I'm going to pick it up though because the downsides don't seem to so bad to me.
Basically yeah. It has an undeniable high quality, but this just wasn't for me.
This marks the first time we get voice acting in the Ogre series. Going to give this a spin, cheers!
I thought Dunkeys Octopath review was pretty positive...
@@armorvil nah the game still pretty easy, just get to level cap and you will mostly fine, the mechanics is a bit confusing for beginners thi
I got to the forest today i can finally get fucking gold
Beating this game on no incapacitation rules is infuriating. I got the last boss to half HP and he randomly landed on a crit card and wiped one of my units. I was done for the day. Honestly, the only thing I hate about this game is the buff cards. Besides the fact that they clog up the screen, they're just generally annoying. I'd have rather seen enemies with higher stats than having a bunch of cards to go collect. I'm sure most people would disagree, but bosses getting to spam finishers because they start with MP regen cards and two physical attack buffs is just stupid.
It’s the sprites that do it for me. I would’ve copped if they at least had a ff tactics art style.
The card art is the bomb tho
Characters should have been remade as they still are inferior to FFT from 97
Man you have a great voice for reviews. Sort of reminds me of the Game trailers/ Easy Allies Voice.
That's funny you say that! Brandon Jones is a huge inspiration and I've modeled a lot of what I do on this channel from them.
“Game too hard”.
Here's the issue I have. The PSP release was fantastic. But Square-Enix's brand new team for this project messed with a lot of the balance of the game, removed whole features.
•No random battles
Which remove level grinding options as well as unit recruitment options.
•Tweaks to classes and spells
They nefted several formally useful spells and ablitites and dammed up the overall amount of luck points characters earn on each level up, making critical hits much less common.
@@Mac_Omegaly You realize Matsuno was involved in every aspect of this game remake right
@@Mac_Omegaly eh, I personally found the game balance of the PSP version to be terrible, there are just too many things that are broken and Overpowered, to where you purposely have to gimp yourself or the game just becomes far too easy.
@@Chelaxim that sounds pretty cool too 😁
Playing this all night yesterday it's pretty good.
Awesome review man! I've kept an eye on this game for a bit but don't think it'll be something I'll go for anytime soon!

Only played the knight of Lodis on gba, never the original so I’m excited to get this.
I just wonder if they made the secret recruitable characters easier to get, because my god…
Hahaha. This is why a Stratagy guide was always needed. It's a shame more people don't know to look up those hidden characters.
People really salty bc he didn’t like this game not being able to grind can hurt the game.
Translation: GIT GUD NOOB
Very original comment 👏
Ah since I don't own any of the consoles that support this version, I picked up "Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together" for the PSP. No regrets.
I dunno about you, but spending half my turns chewing magic leaves doesn't sound like a fun, elegant strategy.
😂😂😂
I like the fact that you can't grind. What I get confused on are the classes, namely, do you master certain classes or do you just stay onto them?
It's just like many if not every classic rpg franchise has newer fans (could even be passionate diehard fans) who only grew with newer games and actually suffer with the early games, because of those early game design traits.
hoping for final fantasy tactics getting a remake!!
"Cant increase levels reeee but you can increase abilities" which btw increases your power even though the level number isnt going up
Reborn is by far the hardest version fore. Going neutral route, I gave up saving the the fire sister from oz.
Bro the fight with hector on law routes is nuts too he is so stacked with buff, literally ohko any character with finisher dang
I agree. This game is freaking broken. When you get further in the game.

They did use the PSP one
@@tylerw4069 That is nice to know. The PSP had some AMAZING ports. Here is to Persona 1 and 2 as well as Valkyrie Profile.
you were talking like a fan of the genre but you don't really seem to appreciate the simple things about these kinds of tactics games. for example, when i play these games, i always hope to be able to play as many characters as possible. you saying 8 is what you want when many of these games have a low end cap of 10 and max of 15 really makes you seem to not know the genre well.
"you're not a real fan like me, because you don't appreciate things that I appreciate"
Oh wow I can't believe people actually didn't like the game, I completed this game twice on PSP.
Btw you can set all your units to AI if you think it's a chore. The AI in this game is brilliant, it knows what to prioritize. It's a good idle game, actually better than those mobile games
Thanks this advice helps a ton. I think of how wonky fft AI is ruclips.net/video/Zwuu99twlNw/видео.html
Dude, I LOVE this game. The NES and remakes, but saying that the AI in Reborn is “brilliant” makes you sound kinda dim.
It seems like they just take JRPGs and put them on a grid because it looks cooler
Tactics Ogre is one of the greats (only topped by FFT). I haven't played the remake much, but the only problem I have so far is the stupid buff cards. If you could turn those off, I think it would be perfect
time to be LORD CLASS again and solo everything 🤣
thanks for the review!
I agree. The only thing that made me go further in that game was the story. The gameplay got boring really fast
Hopefully they redo Final Fantasy Tactics and enhance the sprites, etc.
A lot of your criticisms make it sound like you don't actually enjoy TRPGs...
This review reminds me of the Decline of the West. The modern palate so used to mass culture, cannot appreciate or even comprehend true art.
The original version and even the PSP version are incredible. This remaster version messed with the balance of the game and, IMO, totally ruined it.
I spent a hundred hours on the 1st game. This new version is as complicated as Disgaea, with 10% the fun. I just completed chapter 2 and I'm done. I'll pull out my PS 1 and replay the original.
That's what I did, I went back to playing the SNES/PS1 one.
Almost Perfect game. Edit: Perfect game.
For a guy who claims to play & like a lot of SRPGs this review does come across like it was made by someone who's never played & doesn't like SRPGs.
Honestly the psp was better.
You can grind money lol you just beat a dungeon over and over again. Or just craft a bunch of damascus blowguns and sell them.
yeah if the battle system is tedious i'm not gonna spend my time ''getting gud''. i am intrested in this game since im giving more tactical Rpg's a try this year , but i think im gonna wait for a price drop. thanks for the review taylor.
Its a tactics game, its not really tedious, but waiting on a price drop is fine. Just remember when you play it yourself you're gonna be like wow, the reviewer just sounds like he wants to overlever to plow through the game is all.

Well not that i didn't know the mechanics but rather the og fft never gave me a reason to experiment or anything, i could just run up and attack everything or over level.
they give you A.I so that you don't have to control every single of your unit.
"The game is just too hard for me so it's bad and sucky >_
That's such a small issue lmao. It isn't any different from when enemies dropped crystals/bags in FFT
0:45 Is he seriously explaining the story?? On a hate video?
And then goes on to explain classes? What is this?
Love your videos but weird criticisms of a Strategy game.
You are the only one not enjoying it
Love the Final Fantasy Tactics series but, yeah, I'm out on this one.
And here I thought I was crazy alone on an island! Happy to hear I’m alone in this opinion.
This feels like you should’ve never reviewed this game to

Too many characters to control is also an issue in the first XCOM game and Xenonauts.
I agree with u I had a lot of flaws. Because yes it is a not a tactic like. But even for an rpg it is lacking and I loved the first final fantasy tactics it is one of my favorite games of all time
The fact u can't have more than four skills /spells. On a character is bad like I played with a wizard class and they had no real extra bonuses
What language of this game? its not usual english.. the dialogue is hard to understand T_T
By the way you express your opinion, it seems that you don't know how to play this game.
I beat the PSP version of this game. In 2013. And I have heard it was one of the best PSP games ever made. But that was a big lie. All the people on RUclips who says this game is a Great game.. is just getting paid to say that.By Square Enix. For a free copy of the game.. In my opinion, I enjoyed the story.
I agree with you about the level cap, and yes it was a deliberate choice for this version. The PS1 and PSP versions do not have that. If you want to play a "better" version play the PS1 version (hands down my favorite version.!
The character models look amazing. What the hell are you talking about?
Another video game youtubers that can't play a Jrpg 😂

"Game to boring" "Game so bad you cannot tell your units from enemies" Game is a trash in frond of Suikoden Tactics Dont pay money for this trash😵😵😵😵😵😵😵😵
The story was terrible.
All the characters portraits are the same ...you really couldn't add more png files .. or a customizable thing ...at least let me change the hair color or something...waste of money trash game
I've been scowering the internet to find someone who dislikes this game as much as I do. To me it's just fatally flawed and I don't get why everyone likes it so much.

It's a S#@# game ... so over complicated and convoluted...and you can not tell who the F is on your side and who is the enemy! They all end up looking the same !! To top all that.... you can attack your own character..like wtf 😑 you don't even know who is who then you attack your own characters... graphics are absolutely ancient and pathetic... pure rip off
The game gives you 3 different options to easily tell who is and isn't on your side. Not the games fault you failed to notice this.
Who said tactics ogre was good? 50 characters on screen, looks like a mess
I agree. When you have played Final Fantasy tactic. And then you play this game. You can see how unbalanced tactic Ogre reborn is.
After watching this video I am glad it saved my time. I took my pre-ordered copy for my switch and ran it over back and forth. Trash deserves to be smashed! I don't mess around, people. Trust me, when I go out, I go bananas and that is what makes me a dangerous human being.
No. You bought something that you clearly wanted and let someone else’s viewpoint on it coax you into destroying your own game. Dangerous human being? No. Stupid human being? YES.
Wow… Sound dumb
oooo dangerous human being. So emo. So edgy.
Wtf did I just read...
I started the game and the difficulty spike is ridiculous you hardly do damage your characters permadeath you lose everything this souls type difficulty is killing games
almost like the game wants you to.... strategize? shame there aren't multiple ways to easily strengthen your characters or weaken your enemies..... oh wait....
@@FLIK510 all this game has is dificulty thats all and a good storyline
@@Valcross1776 That's what the game is..? It's a strategy based game so ofcourse it has to be tough or else what is the point lol
Bro it’s not that hard just farm some money in the dungeons and use items. Items are very op. Also learn the game absolute worst case scenario you can go back to a previous save you have multiple save slots for a reason or you utilize the chariot mechanic
I saw fairlight playing this game hard on twitch and if he likes it i know i'd probably like it 2923211 since he seems to always have some hyper intelligence with these type of games lol
