I'm always amazed that Dan Abnett gets any writing done. He's always so passionate and talkative when doing interviews etc that he seems to talk forever (and I'm glad)
Bronzi was a great character, it’s not often that a regular baseline human says to an Astartes at first meeting “I’ll mess you up, son!” Love this book.
I loved how this was very much a HUMAN story in the series. Bronzi and Soneka were brilliant! They all were. Especially how Bronzi squares off against an Alpha Legionaire, knowing he's likely to get owned. He's an old soldier with more stones than is good for him. :D
Dan seems such a cool guy who really loves his job. Also, is Mira like one of the best interviewers, and no one is acknowledging it? Well thought-out questions and a genuine enthusiasm for the subject. Great stuff
Legion is an excellent story - far removed from the normal bolter porn fare - but then, Dan elevates everything he writes. Some great concepts and introductions to the Warhammer universe, that still fit the lore. And the fact that the 20th Legions story turns out to be so tragic because they can't consider they could be wrong.
Just finished Know no Fear yesterday, only got to sleep at 5AM cause I could not put it down for the life of me. Don't recall much from Legion, that was a couple years ago, but I'll give it another read!
Amazing writer! I just love the world building and detail that Dan seems to cram into his books. I would love for him to write a novel about one of the xenos factions one day. It would be cool for his usual level of detail to shine light on a xenos faction.
Haven't read Legion (yet) but the Gaunt's Ghosts books have been an amazing journey over the past two years. I saw the video title and clicked thinking it was about his Legion of Super-Heroes comic work, but will be adding Legion to my queue. Thank you for a great conversation with a great writer!
That is a hard book to devour but it is really different with so many hooks, lines and twists. Definitely going to run thru it again, this time on audio. .
Second edition Eldar codex on the shelf behind you there. Some lovely bits of fiction in there - I know Ian's not big on the Space Elves but there's loads of good lore in that book.
Dan's Gaunt's Ghosts series and his awesome Titanicus novels have kept me up ate into the night for many years. I LOVE his Horus Heresy books, and am just about to start his Ravenor collected edition now. Absolutely rewrote the WH40k rulebook on how far to go in his in-depth treatment of almost everything from the Imperial Guard to the Adeptus Astartes and the Mechanicus Titan Legions. True legend in his own right.
Always great to watch a Dan Abnett interview! Legion is a great book. I can't wait to see your reactions after reading the next adventures of Grammaticus.
Dan's like the Duracell Bunny, start him off and he never stops! Great stuff. I don't think Dan has ever written a mediocre book, let alone a "bad" one! Thanks Dan for all the great moments you've given. But I'll still never fully forgive you for making me cry when you, and that fething groxfroker Cuu murdered Bragg! And of course, thanks to Mira for setting up such a great interview.
Its so inspiring to see someone get so into a hobby that they actually interview prominent people from it . Mira you are so cool and rad and i love how you approach making things and living life. A true joy to behold♥
Currently reading (or listening, mostly) through the Heresy series myself - tactically skipping as recommended (like Battle for the Abyss) or else I fear I’ll never get through the whole thing! It’s so great having you do the book club videos with Ian as well as these author interviews. It really helps keep me accountable to keep working my way through these amazing stories, as well as your content being very entertaining in its own right! Keep at it! Looking forward to us all getting to the end (and the death) together.
Thanks Mira for a fun interview, and gratz Abnett on finishing the heresy saga. Loved reading Legion, I ate that book in a day or two and I'm not a quick reader
The energy you get out of your interview subjects is insanely infectious. Absolutely brilliant!!!! Hope to see you do first heretic! Until then, great work. What a joy!
I love these interviews and your book reviews with Ian. Dan seems like such an enthusiastic and infectiously good natured person. 😊 So glad he could come on and have a laugh and chat with you!
Amazing interview about one of my favorite books. I hope one of his two secret projects is a Thousand Sons 40k novel, I've always wanted to see his take on them... Relatedly, I can't wait until you get to ATS and talk with McNeil about it!!! You're going to love all of his thoughts and inspirations.
Thanks for this Mira, it's always a joy to hear you speaking with the HH authors, and especially Dan. I'm looking forward to when you reach my personal favourite Heresy novel, another Dan book, Prospero Burns. It has a lot of the elements you've liked about other novels so far, so I'm interested to learn what you make of it. It's HH novel number 15, so a way to go yet and on a fairly uneven road, but I'm hoping you get there and we get to hear you speak to Dan again when you do.
Looking forward to this - Legion is one of my favorite Abnett novels. If you ever get a chance and he agrees, I'd love to hear a discussion of The End and The Death and the process of writing it, what he left out and wanted to include, etc.
Man, Dan just wont shut up! (In a good way). Fr, Mira, i'm glad we, as an audience get to experience the joys of witnessing your exchanges with your wonderful "pen" pals. Genuinely hope you get to host a round table discussion with them at the conclusion at the end and the death, someday! Cheers!
Superb interview, Legion is one of my favourite Heresy books, and the ending was sad, I may have had something in my eye! Alpharius, is again my favourite Primarch novel by far. Again brilliant content.
The remark about 7 minutes in about everyone loving the breadcrumbs was interesting to me because honestly, that's kind of what's led me to part ways a little with my enjoyment of Dan's more recent works. What I really valued about things like the Ghosts, Double Eagle, Eisenhorn etc was that they -weren't- about the grandiose "big picture" stuff and they largely did their own thing, and with the general increasing focus from GW on everything being one big interconnected ongoing narrative with "protagonists" rather than a sandbox for us plebs to play in with "our guys" that's something I valued even more, so stuff like the King in Yellow reveal did make me roll my eyes a bit. I also think it's interesting in the context of Legion, which gets a bit of a bad rap from a lot of 30K fans but for me is actually one of my favourites to the point the spine of my paperback is barely legible I've read it so many times, because honestly I think the reason Legion isn't looked upon fondly by some is exactly because later "tie-ins" didn't really do justice to the potential of the little revelations and mysteries from the original book. Lots of folk out there dislike the Perpetuals plot or the Alpha Legion's portrayal, but when you read their criticisms none of them really ring true for Legion itself, rather Legion is judged badly by association with how some of its elements were developed later in other books.
John Grammaticus might be my fav character in the whole heresy. In world of hyper competent scary space marines you need a charming guy who isn’t that good at his job. This is helped by the audiobooks where he is the only character in the series with a very dodgy american accent which really adds to the charm.
It’s been decades since I’ve read either, but I recall thinking at the time that Legion was the most Jorge Luis Borges thing I’d ever read in a Warhammer setting. I’ve always wondered if he was throwing in references or that was coincidence or just in my head.
John Grammaticus is a great character and chap too. This book is a BL tomb, takes lots of time to read and think about. So many mysteries which seem to generate even more ??s A stand alone novel that is very well worth the Quid.
If I can’t twist Dan’s leg to get a Votann novel in the works, Mira… Can you get him to twist someone’s leg who can? It’s just… they were introduced and then… [crickets]
Titanicus, sequel please. Legion, sequel please. Alpha boys at the Horus Heresy, sequel please (abandoned, with a mine stuck to one of them?! No, that cannot end there! Dan wouldn't do that to Alpha boys 😉). &c. ✌😄 [Cover art of Legion: one of the best. That was darn gorgeous.]
Mira being Dan's Rembrancer is cannon now.
I like that :)
25:02 " How much time do you have today?"
" as much as youd like"
I'm always amazed that Dan Abnett gets any writing done. He's always so passionate and talkative when doing interviews etc that he seems to talk forever (and I'm glad)
Gotta appreciate Dan taking time out of his schedule to do these chats. Very informative and entertaining. And thanks to Mira for doing these.
We're very lucky that Dan is so generous with his time, thanks for putting this up!
I feel that in my bones!
He’s such a cool dude
Dan Abnetts Legion brings a gritty believability to covert warfare.
GWs design team brings me a funfair bumper car
Insane these interviews don’t do massive numbers. Great work, Mira.
Bronzi was a great character, it’s not often that a regular baseline human says to an Astartes at first meeting “I’ll mess you up, son!” Love this book.
not just an astartes! a primarch!

@@SamTheManWhoCanTwice But was he…? Hahaha.
The dude: "Ok Dan, all those secrets sound great for the book, what else do you have in mind?"
Dan: "I don't know. I never thought I'd get this far."
Dan's enthusiasm really comes across.
comment for the comment god!....we watch ...and we enjoy!😁😁💪🏼💪🏼🤩🤩
Dan seems such a cool guy who really loves his job.
Also, is Mira like one of the best interviewers, and no one is acknowledging it? Well thought-out questions and a genuine enthusiasm for the subject. Great stuff

Some great concepts and introductions to the Warhammer universe, that still fit the lore. This may be my favourite book of the series, outside of the original trilogy.
Well, tied with 'Know No Fear'.
Know No Fear and Legion are my top 2 as well :)
Just finished Know no Fear yesterday, only got to sleep at 5AM cause I could not put it down for the life of me. Don't recall much from Legion, that was a couple years ago, but I'll give it another read!
Respectable choices, but nothing can beat First Heretic my beloved ❤
Canberran here! Dan taking inspiration from our museum makes me feel so seen!
Great guy, seems so nice and genuinely passionate so glad we have got him in the community!
I always imagined Nurth's desert expanses to look like those in Lawerance of Arabia, then Dune once I saw it.
What a great interview. Dan is the reason I got into 40K. My fave Author 🎉🎉
Dan is a top dude and writer. He is the backbone of black library.
Mria
is awesome
I enjoy these interviews, great to have insight into these writers minds. Keep going!
Very good interview! I just bought Legion. Woo hoo!
Amazing writer! I just love the world building and detail that Dan seems to cram into his books. I would love for him to write a novel about one of the xenos factions one day. It would be cool for his usual level of detail to shine light on a xenos faction.
Intro song epically crushing! 🎶
Excellent interview!
Thanks Mira
Dan you are the reason I like alpha legion
I'm so happy that I discovered Dan's brilliant WH40k books!
I'll probably love anything Dan does. But I really want to read the Bequin finale!
This is such a fun time; Dan and Mira make for great company.
Haven't read Legion (yet) but the Gaunt's Ghosts books have been an amazing journey over the past two years.

Thank you for a great conversation with a great writer!
Thanks to both yourself yourself and Dan for these interviews Mira. They are brilliant.
That is a hard book to devour but it is really different with so many hooks, lines and twists. Definitely going to run thru it again, this time on audio. .
Thoroughly enjoyable interview, loved every second of it.
Loved the interview. Dan is a great guest as always, so much to say and with great enthusiasm.
Second edition Eldar codex on the shelf behind you there. Some lovely bits of fiction in there - I know Ian's not big on the Space Elves but there's loads of good lore in that book.
And art!
These interviews with Dan are absolute Gold. Your vids should have 30,000 views 🫡⚡️
Dan's Gaunt's Ghosts series and his awesome Titanicus novels have kept me up ate into the night for many years.

Dan is so damn cool
Australia mentioned!
Always great to watch a Dan Abnett interview! Legion is a great book. I can't wait to see your reactions after reading the next adventures of Grammaticus.
Can’t wait for this one! Always great questions and so cool to see my favourite authors interviewed by you! 😊

I think Dan loves doing interviews with you Mira. Awesome video. And let's not forget the theme song!
Thanks you so much for doing these Mira!
You are so welcome!
Legion is my favourite Heresy book! I'm just starting the video, but I can't keep myself from commenting before it's over because I'm beyond hyped!

Fantastic. Going to spend the rest of the day wishing that my local store was frequented by Dan Abnett. And Mira too

By your word.
The energy you get out of your interview subjects is insanely infectious. Absolutely brilliant!!!! Hope to see you do first heretic! Until then, great work. What a joy!
I like the quirky IG leader with that creature on a leash for a pet in Legion by Dan Abnett.
Namatjira and his thylacine :) they get mentioned!
The random Australian cameos in the Heresy haha
I love these interviews and your book reviews with Ian.
Dan seems like such an enthusiastic and infectiously good natured person. 😊
So glad he could come on and have a laugh and chat with you!
Lovely interview 👏
We come for the singing, everything else is incidental.
Would love to know what Dan thinks about the narrators who bring his characters to life in the audiobooks.
