@@elizabongwater I think it's in reference to the 911 calls that come through to her phone, which she promptly ignores/makes worse (can't quite remember the details)
its honestly big of her to say that! people always say 'the only way to cure your jealousy is to get what the other person has' but that's just not realistic a lot of times. i think she handled her jealousy so maturely despite the fact that it was... warranted. I definitely wouldn't have been able to handle it.
@@scottyb8392 what exactly did you mean when you say warranted? I’m sure you didn’t mean it in a bad way, but because so many people think this is a justifiable reason to hate Ariana in this situation, I’m going to take this time to educate people who are very misinformed. There is a lot of misinformation being spread around: 1. Ariana did not make more money than Jennette(Jennette literally disclaimed this in her book) 2. Ariana wasn’t just allowed to miss work because she was favored; she had it written in her contract(and as sad it is that Jennette wasn’t able to direct any episodes or do other projects like she wanted, she should’ve gotten that written in her contract) 3. Jennette was very mature and reflective in mentioning that most of the things she was jealous of Ariana for, were things she didn’t even want(like channel bags or a big pop star career). Yet if you look at the context of the chapter she talks about Ariana, you see that she was projecting all of her pain and anger from her mom, her eating disorder, her miserable job, and her anger at Dan Schneider into her jealousy of Ariana.
@@noncatholiccatholicrat6309 That’s your opinion, not a fact. Ariana being more promoted and given more freedom by their shared company gave her more opportunities which LEADS to a more lucrative business life, especially as they were both leaving successful shows to hopefully make an even more successful show. It’s very clear favoritism came into play with money as the motivator. Anyone would be sad in her position, I think for good reason.
@@noncatholiccatholicrat6309 I could be wrong, but I read it as saying Jeannette having those jealous feelings was valid. Ariana didn't do anything wrong, but as you clearly outlined, Jeannette had a lot of miserable things going on at the time. Her feelings, however misguided and projected, are valid. She had a lot to come to terms with.
I am now completely convinced this entire show was a plot against Jeanette. Lets take note- First, they promise to give her her own show, then take it away, then repeatedly promise she can be a writer only to again go back on it. Now, they've made multiple instances of things that Jeanette actually struggled with. A crazy stage mom, a comment by cat about eating too much, Sam literally binge eating and another comment about how she should stop drinking. If you've read her book, you know at one point, especially after her mom died, Jeanette McCurdy had a severe drinking problem.
You know they really had no excuse to undersell the iCarly half of the show, because like... Sam was in iCarly. She was half the face of it. iCarly was such a HUGE cultural phenomenon, they made news multiple times, and now here's Sam with a babysitting service! Literally surrounded by children as part of the entire plot, but the kids never react to her, they never get business BECAUSE she was from iCarly, what's even the point??
Yeahhh it’s very weird in universe with that in mind but like somehow the show almost made me forget that Sam is supposed to be nearly world famous considering the special in Japan
The funny thing is, they could have done something with that. Sam's extended vacation could've been set-up as her going back discover herself, being absolutely sure her e-fame would last and be this safety net to fall back on, but now she's hit by a very rude awakening that the world moved on and forgot about her. So when Cat is the only one to remember her, that could be seen as pathetic, she was on top of the world, then she's only remembered by a rando. And then it could be a recurring joke that only weirdos rememeber her, with how often she needs to sneak or put on a disguise.
I mean even Cat to a lesser extent, she’s still going to Hollywood Arts but she rarely performs? The only one I can think of off the top of my head was that Abraham Lincoln thing, which…
I put a hold on the audio book and have two library cards, one library has it on hold for 6 weeks and the other several months 😅 I hope I get to hear it sooner than 6 weeks, I've watched several people talk about it in the meantime
I was gonna get the audible version with her narrating but some of the reviews say it was kind of flat and felt she was rushing thru certain parts so I'm torn.
I am only at 1:12:50 , but it also doesn’t seem like they brought that aspect of her helping kids on a similar track as she was on out into Sam and Cat. It might have been really cool if Sam in her babysitting could have sort of taken the role in the kids’ lives that Spencer had in her’s during iCarly.
I wish we could have seen that pilot or piece of it. In Sam and Cat, everyone looks way older than they're supposed to be. Having a time skip would have been nice
@@PDD555I don’t think it’s really that egregious. I mean Jeannette and Ariana were like 20-21 while this show was going on. While I do think Sam’s spin off show would have been better, 20-21 really isn’t that bad for people playing teens, it’s pretty normal. I actually think I would have a harder time watching a 21 year old Jennette play like a 30 year old Sam.
I know, these shows work when the characters are allowed the change for the better, which is what this old show would have clearly done well. But nope, we instead got pretty much 36 sets of 22-minutes of nonsense and wasted potential.
@@houselemuellan8756if she wrote a show with the same concept and had someone else play the lead (a different but similar character) i think it would probably be really cute and meaningful
Apparently the script for "Gibby!" was initially leaked by someone who won it in a "Nickelodeon Trivia Contest." No idea how official that contest was, but the possibility that Nickelodeon willingly gave away this trash fire script to an outside party for a contest makes the story behind it's discovery even more crazy. Either that or (more likely) some random Nick employee heard about their small town's unofficial Nickelodeon themed trivia night and was like "You know what would be an absolutely insane prize..." which is also crazy and hilarious.
One thing that stood out to me in the IGMMD book is that when Jennette discovered she wouldn’t have the chance to direct an episode, she had a bad panic attack on set and collapsed. The actor who played “the boxer” as she writers picked her up and carried her back to her trailer, comforting her with the help of her makeup artist. Your point about Goomer being the heart of the show isn’t limited to the characters alone.
I love Goomer and that that actor - as someone older who could look at these traumatized young women with objectivity - was able to be there for her. But what I'm taking from this is the bit about Ariana collapsing under stress is just a bad jab at Jeanette. God, Schneider, she's already been the target of abuse for six years, and it's just exhausting.
I just read a little about the situation. Was the producer lying for expedience or did someone really threaten to quit over that? It doesn’t make sense to me, even if she did a bad job, it’s a single episode of a kids show. Why would you need to quit? Either they were being unreasonable about that or they didn’t like her. If they actually existed that is.
@@ShabazzTBL She was treated very unfairly throughout her time, not just then - and it could very well have been the guest director already hired who threatened to quit. We just don't know. We certainly know *Jennette* wanted to quit by then.
I’m glad Jennette’s book gave not only her the courage to reveal the atrocities she had to go through at Nick, but also gave courage to the other victims of Schneider’s bakery to have their voices heard.
@@bluewater6878 In curious about that too. It was released earlier this month and for a 5 hour video this must have taken awhile. If he did find time to read and incorporate it I applaud him.
Russ immediately recognizing the pear pad, indicating that Quinton has ranted about it to him before, is one of my favorite small details of this video.
Wow, legitimately sad that show where she's a guidance counselor didn't go through. That would be like, the perfect wrap up for her character. Gonna pretend it's canon.
It's weird that in the pilot they get promised free hamburgers for life from inside out burger and then for the rest of the show go to a different restaurant for hamburgers.
Theory: Inside Out Burger gets its name because if you eat too many of them, they burn through your stomach lining and turn your stomach inside out, either giving you severe chemical burns and a trip to the hospital or killing you depending on how fast the ambulance gets there. The girls stopped eating there after learning this.
I'm certainly not the first person to say this but watching this now and knowing that Jennette McCurdy was struggling with an eating disorder makes all the emphasis around food with Sam's character all the more fucked up.
@@meevins from what we are told, Jennette told HR and the directors to "knock it off with all the food" many times and nothing was done about it. im very sure the writers were aware and there was nothing they could do about it.
Knowing about her eating disorder, I've taken to watching carefully when she does eat on the show. And I've noticed that there are scenes where Sam is enthusiastic about eating but doesn't actually consume the food, or only pretends. For example, when she's drinking the root beer around Cat after she made the money man, you can see that she's not actually drinking any of it when she pours the liter bottle onto herself. Stuff like that. She also talks about the peanut butter on the hot dog, but you never actually see her eat it. (Though this may all be wrong and only seems that way because of Quinton's editing)
@@raymondkim3740 not to say that your observations are incorrect or that her ED didn't have anything at all to do with how she interacted with foot onset, and I'm very sure it was hard for her, but it's very common for actors not to eat prop food/to cheat eating it. Obv there are often multiple takes of any given scene, and if an actor chooses to eat, say, several bites of pizza in a take, they then have to eat that same number of bites of pizza again and again however many takes they do because takes need to have the same continuity. So, y'know, I don't think anyone-ED or not-would be too keen on chugging a bunch of root beer a bunch of times in a row. Also, a lot of the time the prop food isn't very good, ie is cold and gross from sitting around for ages. Just thought it was worth noting 😅
A year ago I got dumped by a guy while this was playing in the background. He told me he wasn’t attracted to me anymore and didn’t even bother to pause Quinton’s video to break the news. Worst of all he didn’t even let me get to the point where the Ariana vids play on the Shrek CRT before doing it. I’m glad to say that a year later I finally returned to finish the video and reclaim it as something to enjoy. Thanks for everything, Mr. Quinton.
Goddammit. Quinton is the only person who can take 40 actual minutes to get to the main topic of a video and not get me mad because it's all interesting
Watching this knowing that Jennette McCurdy originally wanted her own solo show but it was shelved because the basically forced Arianna into it explains a lot about how the show was going, even ignoring the other things that were going on in Jennette's life
I'm not sure how long Jennette's solo show would actually last though. Knowing what happened to Jennette behind the scenes, even later on, by my guess Jennette would probably want to leave acting immediately.
Right? I don't blame her and how she felt at all, quite the contrary. It must be tiring to see day by day how you are compared to your coworker, specially when your dream wasn't being an actress in the first place
Honestly I don't think it was so much that she wanted the solo show as much as she was convinced having her own show was a sign of true success after sacrificing so much to get it, only to be overshadowed by a breakout costar doing a far more mediocre premise, coupled with the loss of someone she was basically groomed into codependency with. (This is going off her book, of course, it's not like I know her personally)
@@estebangutierrez160 I mean, yes, but it would have been better as her solo I guess? like, at least she would be the star. i know she had a difficult situation and Im not saying if she did get her own show, it would be easy. just, the idea that they had to force another start into your own show bc they don't think you profit enough does make it harder

Y'know, I think Goomer might be the nicest person in the whole NCU. From genuinely caring about his friends with 0 self interests, to being the only person who doesn't hate homeless people (In fact, letting one live in his car so he doesn't have to face the harsh weather's), whose goals are stuff like "Make his mother proud", I think Goomer is unironically the only person in the NCU who isn't a terrible person
I was gonna say that it's because he is neurodivergent and they didn't want to make such a character hateable But being fair, all characters seem mentally unstable
The weird thing about putting Sam and Cat together is they're both such heavily exaggerated characters that neither of them can really be the "grounded" one. They're each the kind of character that needs a more grounded character to play off of. Having too over the top characters being over the top together just makes things feel monotonous.
That’s why I’ve always defended “main character syndrome.” You need someone “boring” and relatable as your main character, side characters work because, like junk food, they’re better to consume in small doses. Almost every spinoff fails because people realise the sidekick they loved isn’t as lovable without the main characters. Those qualities that made them so special are quickly diminished when they’re constantly onscreen.
To be honest, Goomer's fight against the champion is the best episode of the entire series. The guy is dumb, but he's a nice person and fights for the honor of those who he loves. Is the kind of comedy character you can root for.
The Gibby Spin Off seems like absolutely every single person involved did NOT want it to happen, so they just made it as ridiculous, concerning, and what not just to make sure it would never get picked up 😂
@@carsausage apparently nobody has anything bad to say about him. Noah has said he felt uncomfortable with the joke where the takes off shirt, which is why in the later seasons of icarly they stop doing it and there's that one scene where he specially mentions he doesn't do it anymore so, it's really messed up that they just made him do it again in the gibby pilot.
Yeah, I was thinking that too. Like, they could say that Gibby's in college and is trying to get his degree and certificate to become a counselor or teacher. And he ends up working at the same school he once went to for active classroom hours or something. And he ends up meeting these kids and becomes their counselor pretty much by accident. And the show is about the growth of these kids, as they grow closer to each other and to others outside of that small group. And the drama is about getting through school, figuring out social cues/rules/etc, and self confidence. And all the while they're also getting up to their own silly adventures that are a lot like the ones characters from iCarly and Victorious go through, but cause we're mostly following Gibby the joke is how awful and bizarre it would have been to be a counselor for either of those shows.
@@raymondkim3740 they kind of explore your last point in victorious, the guidance counselor character is always shown as being in way over his head, and his scenes actually still make me laugh to this day because imagining a real counselor going through helping robbie alone is inherently ridiculous. I also think the concept for that gibby show could have worked well in the right hands. It’s a shame it was… whatever the fuck that script was.

I can’t blame Jennette for feeling jealous of Ariana on set when an entire episode featured Ariana in a cute I Dream of Jeannie costume, and Jennette in an Ariana Grande costume.
@Egirl Cozy in Victorious yes, but when Sam and Cat came along and Ariana started to make a name for herself they began to favour her, they still made her character as dumb as she was towards the end of Victorious though which is still doety
I would think Jeanette wouldn't want to wear a costume like that after what Dan did to he. I doubt she was jealous, in fact she probably felt bad for Ariana.
She actually wasn't, it was all just made up drama. She just noticed she was being drastically underpaid compared to her costar! At the end of the day acting was their job and that's completely normal for an employee to be a bit upset about.
the untitled Sam project was, according to Jennette McCurdy, supposed to be called "Just Puckett", and it was promised to her near the beginning of iCarly. then they added Ariana out of NOWHERE, so the only reason Jennette stayed on the show (to get her own spinoff) was ripped away from her. nickelodeon absolutely fucks over its actors and Jennette is literally such a perfect example
Update; on October 6th, 2023, the Gibby! Pilot in it's entirety was uploaded mysteriously on the Internet Archive. The exact nature of how it was found remain a mystery.
“Sam and Cat did not ruin Nickelodeon, I just stopped being 10 years old” is one of the most powerful statements ever. Now I have to reevaluate my 9 year belief that Henry Danger ruined Nick
I watched Henry danger too back then because i thought it was gonna be the next lab rats ( super powers with technology in the mix, token black girl, neglectful mentor helping out the kids, ynow, all the good stuff/sarc) but after 2-3 seasons it fell off and changed Nick as a whole, for what kind of shows it made, Any show after that felt like Disney 2.0 but watered down, I couldn't tell the difference between the networks if i tried
I grew up with Drake and Josh (and kinda iCarly), but I didn't think Victorious ruined Nick because I was down bad for Jade whenever my sister watched it.

@@introusas i hope she keeps writing though, she had mentioned she was passionate about creative writing as a kid in the memoir and she's clearly quite good at it
After reading the Jenette McCurdy biography, that next video is gonna hit like a truck. The Arianna section really brings that home. For Arianna, this was a fun little detour in her career, in a life of privilege where she could do or have anything she wanted. For Jenette this show was a miserable slog she felt obligated to do because she was forced into this life she had no desire for out of a twisted loyalty to her moms dream. And the one thing she wanted out of this was the chance to direct an episode, and the gutless cowards at Nick wouldn't even give her that.
I do agree with you about everything concerning Jenette. However I must say that Ariana is one of if not the most exploited Nickelodeon star, at least when it came to filmed scenes (that are public). It wasn't aired but on the website, but still, probably the grossest thing Dan Schneider ever made publicly. Absolutely not trying to downplay the other stars like Jennette that suffered as well. Who knows what went on behind the scenes other than what we've learned about, so I feel for all the kids who've worked there. I see Ariana and Jenette as victims.

The fact that i don't have to name which is which because you knew as you read it should be proof enough of that. As for him being "disgusting" for "blaming a kid", the show aired in 2014, so 8 years ago. Jeanette is currently 30, and Arianna is currently 29, simple math would put their ages at 22 and 21 respectively. So you're trying to tell him that he's disgusting because people that have been legal adults for 4+ years are somehow children to you that can't realize the "true nature" of what they're doing? So desperate that you'll call someone disgusting for not thinking an adult is a child. The nerve and ignorance needed to start insulting someone like that is insane, especially when you could've just Googled three simple things: the years Sam & Cat aired, their ages, and since you unfortunately seem to be clueless on this one... the age at which a person in America is considered an adult and not a child.

Is it not a contest, or does that only apply when you don't want to make it a contest yourself, just so you can argue that Arianna had it the worst in your sad contest?
I think the reason that they kept them 16 is because there's this unspoken rule when making media for kids about the age of your main characters. Basically, it's that the characters have to be young enough to be relatable but not younger than the audience. Kids will always want the characters they watch and look up to to be older than them so they feel they can aspire to them, but if they're too close to their age, they'll grow out of them too quickly. This is why most kids' shows on Nickelodeon and Disney are teenagers or even late teenagers because it's that perfect age of relatability for both kids and tween/young teens. It's also why it seems the age of these characters in Disney/Nick shows are getting younger and younger (Game Shakers, Nicky, Dicky, Ricky, and Dawn, that monster babysitting show on Disney). It's because, as mentioned, kids are shifting to online content at younger and younger ages, and the networks are trying to appeal to and retain their remaining (much younger than before) audiences. Think about it, there's not one show fully for kids centered around adults on these networks. It's overwhelmingly centered on the kids, maybe a couple could be centered around adults (like maybe Raven's Home or Full House or something) but that's rare. For the most part, all of the really important, popular ones are not centered around adults, and that's for a reason.
As someone who has worked in retirement/nursing homes in the past, I want to point out that the idea that no one wants to go to bingo is the most unrealistic thing in the show. I've seen residents refuse medical service if it interferes with bingo. We've had facilities where we simply wouldn't schedule to see patients if it would overlap with bingo. Bingo is sacred... (and no- we didn't provide medically emergent services; we could wait without endangering any patients)
I don't even have to work in a retirement home to get this, I'm 22 and I LOVE bingo and frequently see young adults with their parents and grandparents having a blast! so when I see the idea that no one wants to bingo im always like HUH why!!! bingo is great!
Old joke: 2 old women are waiting outside a bingo hall for it to open when a hearse goes past. One of the women drops to her knees, makes the Sign of the Cross, & beats her breast intoning, “mercy, mercy, mercy!” The other woman looks on in astonishment. “I didn’t know you were so devout!” The first woman gets to her feet. “Ah, sure, wasn’t he a good husband to me?”
Right!? I currently work in a care home and the thought that no one would want to play Bingo if they have the opportunity is frankly laughable. That and in a different episode the idea that wet noodles are a “choke-less” food (whatever that means). Someone has not been paying attention to the IDDSI.
Bingo is as every bit of sacred to the elderly as is the traditional rites like vision quests to earn a name of your own in the Plains nations and earning the right to wear an eagle feather on behalf of doing a courageous task for them, though it's not commonly given due to how rare they are dropped by the eagle themselves

It feels like to me that Ariana was changing cat's character over time so that when she was able to start her career in music people wouldn't conflate her and cat. My secondary thought was ariana attempting to dissociate on set though no proof of that
Wouldn't that have been just iCarly with Carly and Spencer merged into one character? Cause Cat is (to some degree) Carly's anxiety mixed with Spencer's weirdness. Well, that, and some heavy trauma that is played for laughs ...
Can confirm that it was very weird seeing Ariana Grande release a song and music video that was sexy, and then act on Sam and Cat as a grating infantilized character.
100000000% go read I’m Glad My Mom Died. Jennette is an awesome writer, and knowing what she was going through behind the scenes adds some different context to seeing her as Sam.
One thing that's really missing from this show is the wish fulfillment element that was present in both iCarly and Victorious. It doesn't have the themes of talent and fame running through the plot, it doesn't have an awesome, supportive parental figure like Spencer, and it doesn't even really have Hollywood Arts (which is basically Hogwarts, but with singing instead of witchcraft). The closest to teenage escapism bait Sam & Cat ever gets is "What if you were able to become roommates with your best friend, with no parents getting in the way?", but that doesn't work because the two girls don't actually like each other and are constantly fighting. It's more like being forced to live with your least favorite cousin. Also, I feel like this show would have been a lot more structurally sound if the writers had straight up committed to making Sam the unambiguous main character, allowed her to take on more of a straight woman role, and leaned into the odd couple energy between her and Cat. Kinda like a quirky romantic comedy (except not romantic ... although that would have been awesome), with Cat being Sam's Manic Pixie Dream Girl, causing Sam to defrost over time and become a more balanced character, while Sam in turn becomes a grounding influence on Cat. They could have done either a light-hearted feelgood take on the sitcom formula (in contrast to the show's more mean-spirited predecessors), or added some more mature elements, like actually exploring the characters' respective traumas through comedic plotlines rather than just using their darkest memories as throwaway punchlines. Then again, that would actually require effort, and why do that when you can just phone it in and hope your actors will pick up the slack?
right! i've been thinking to myself: "what if people had actually put effort into this show? what would that look like?" and your comment here nails it. together, sam and cat had the potential to actually be a great duo if they had allowed both characters to be fully fleshed out characters. they each have a lot of baggage that has been otherwise undiscussed, and having comedic plots lead to genuine emotional moments for the characters and have them grow into more .....normal individuals would have been a pretty good story
I think the sweetest part about this whole video is the part with your dad. You can tell he enjoys, and watches your videos. He has this look of excitement and pride just to be in your project. He even references things from your previous videos, it's so adorable.
And i was so shocked when he said it was his dad. I for sure thought an older brother! Such a wholesome moment after the surprise burp and 'oh fuck' moment lmfao
If I well remember, Quinton mentioned in a previous video how his dad bingewatched sitcoms in the same time as he did (I think it was to stress how much content Victorious had, his dad having the time to watch multiple show, where Quinton was stuck on one).
That was hysterical, they are so similar!! I'm sure they were playing up the mannerisms for comic effect but they really seemed like 2x the same person and I was living for it 😂
That made me SO HAPPY to see. Like, as a 45 year old who caught the tail end of these shows (mostly in reruns) I could only think that it would be Quinton's mom or dad who would be able to remember them. And I was right! The weird thing to me is that Russ doesn't seem to remember Love, American Style. I remember watching that show as a baby (yes, I have significant memories as a baby), though I didn't understand any of it. I just remember bits and pieces of the show, the transitions, and the theme song. But the REALLY weird thing is that there was a show set in a city named Milwaukee. What kind of name for a fictional city is Milwaukee. Just set it in a real city.
I haven’t seen a comment mention this but it’s so awesome it needs to be highlighted how much effort was put into the Gibby! recreation scene. The fact you got the actual actor who played the principal in icarly to read his lines is INSANE!
I want a fanfic where the Superposition collapses and all the characters suddenly become aware of all the discrepancies and have to explore the psychological ramifications of knowing everything is so very wrong.
After reading Jeanette's book, I am so angry that Nickelodian went along with this show instead of going with the original idea "Just Puckett" which would have been a harrowing story about Sam (a former juvenile delinquent) becoming a guidance cousoler at a high school. It was such a great idea and had way more potential than this train wreck. Hell, Cat or Jade or other popular characters from other Nickelodian shows could have been supporting roles, this bringing the shared universe together.
What’s with kids channels having 2 beloved franchises that would’ve made great spin off/sequels featuring the former protagonists taking care of younger kids, but then deciding against the actor(s)’ wishes and making something significantly worse and/or cancelling the show. Both Suite life and iCarly could’ve had great sequels shows/seasons but ended up with a horrible products that were inferior to what the original actor(s) proposed.
Sam being a well-adjusted middle school guidance counselor in contrast with a well-meaning, sweet but bumbling English teacher ("Ms. Cat") would have been hilarious. Maybe Cat could originally be depicted in the same way as in Victorious and Sam doesn't like her for it. But as the two are forced into each other's orbit more and more, how Cat is portrayed changes for the better over time. Eventually, Sam realizes that Cat's stupid, flighty, infantilization is less reflective of reality and more representative of Sam's biases against her. (She's an unreliable narrator, etc.) Cat's actually much more mature and emotionally in-tune with her students than Sam gave her credit for. And they become friends who approach helping kids who are struggling in different but equally important ways. Something like that.
“Later in the day, Sam is visited by none other than BEN SHAPIRO.” I don’t know why, but Quinton’s way of saying this with complete sincerity while also sounding cheekily self-aware that this is a joke, coupled with how unexpected and unprepared I was, made me CACKLE when I heard this part 😂
I was cleaning and had my phone on my dresser. I had to rewind that part and then I laughed at myself and laughed cause it was such a good joke. I half believed it for a second there 😂😂
Ah it's probably because it was pretty funny and tickled your sensibilities, I wouldn't worry it's a common enough reaction. I chuckled too but I was confident with the why ☺️
I’ve never seen Kenan & Kel, but apparently it ends with Kel working to become a rapper. So Game Shakers is essentially about Kel Mitchel playing his character from Kenan & Kel, who is also his character from Sam & Cat, who is also an original character. This is a confusing universe.
I just feel a form of sadness looking at Jeanette‘s face knowing what she went through throughout her career. I can’t really look at these shows the same way I did when they were being released at the time.
Yeah I don’t think I’ll ever be able to watch older shows on nick ever the same again. The children… what they were going though… and honestly what I bet a lot of them still go through behind closed doors. New victims, same people.
The chapters from her book about when she was filming Sam & Cat were heartbreaking, just this horrible sense of everything collapsing in on itself and for nothing
Sir, sir, Sir Quinton. No one is upset at all by this video not coming out earlier. Your series and channel as a whole provides fantastic content. The jokes you make about these series are mostly to take the edge off, not to criticize the actors or what they have went through. And the perspective you provide is fascinating and respectful on these weird shows. I hope, just like everyone else who watches this video, that this year turns around for you. Excited for what content you put out next, no matter how long it takes! (Also, love the Russ Reviews short, he did a great job!) Edit: I JUST NOTICED THE PROFESSOR DOLL AHHHHHHHHHHHHH
i was in the middle of slowly rewatching this entire series. i got to the middle of the second half of icarly, so not even close to halfway through. ngl, i could've waited lol but i'm glad this video is out, of course

i rewatch this series whenever i feel depressed (frequently) and the highlight of this watch through is the way russ says "look! the pear pad!" bc he clearly recognizes it from what i can only assume are quinton's frequent rants on the subject is so sweet to me
I genuinely feel like your dad is really listenable and sounds like he's been doing this for years. I'm ready to watch his 5 hour video essay about the Happy Days universe whenever it comes out.
this isn't a failure. it feels like it's only been a day since your last video. really hoping that things pick up for you, quinton. you deserve it a million times over.
Fun fact 3:15:10 Jennette is wearing the T-shirt of one of my friends who wrote a song about her. I absolutely lost it the first time I saw this on air. I know this wasn’t a great time for her but I really appreciate that she showed love to Turbo T Double TSST in this episode.
I think the issue with Sam and Cat continuing the legacy that started with All That/Amanda Show/Drake and Josh etc is that those shows didnt have characters from the original shows they just became new vehicles for those actors. Sam and Cat is a full spin off of two shows rather than being a separate show for Ariana and Jeanette to showcase their talents. This is why Sam being a B Plot Character and Cat being a runner character really lets the show down.
@@Dallas_isk I don't, but I saw a post he made a few months back where he said he uploaded the first SEVEN hours of the next video to patreon so I guess it's taking so long because it really big, somehow
I don't think anyone who really enjoys your content is frustrated with you in any way. I hope you take the time you need and you can get the rest you need to process whatever happened this year.
I'm about to jump onto part 2 but I really hope you're doing okay Quinton. I appreciate you, not just because of your content, but for the person you've shown through your videos. You deserve happiness and I hope some light shines through. Take care, and for whatever it's worth, just know you're loved and the world wouldn't be the same without you. I truly mean that, love you and thank you
2:56:22 I know this may sound ironic, but seeing Jennette interviewing a toilet actually broke my heart. She mentions being ashamed of her acting carreer in her book, and while I will always be fond of Sam Puckett, I can't blame her for that. Jennette has been through a lot, she didn't even want to act to begin with, so I wish she at least didn't have to put up with such embarrassing skits...
On the other hand she seems to have always loved writing, and her book is pretty well written so maybe this could be the start of a great writing career she can be proud of. So a small silver lining at least right?
@@MissCaraMint Yeah, I'm happy that her book is being received so well! Despite the very dark topic, her writing style makes it really enjoyable to read. If she ever decides to publish more works, I'd gladly check them out.
It's not just the skits she was made it to, it's the character itself. Sam is a horrific character and a really bad person to be trying to present positively to young people. She's talked about how bad just playing her made her feel.
@@TheWonksterThat in itself is heartbreaking to me because Sam is easily my favorite character in the entire NSU. Jeanette's excellent delivery made Sam more than just a brute.

4:48:17 "(...) from Wicked, which was one of Ariana's favorite musicals. I'm sure that piece of Trivia will never come up again in the story of Ariana's life." Boy do I and SpongeBob have news for you
The reason Cat says Dice won't be a man until he goes through puppetry, then gets disgusted when Dice corrects her with puberty, must be because she wasn't misspeaking. She meant puppetry, and she meant it because, in her eyes, Robbie is the perfect man.
No need to apologise about a delay Quinton, I'm a 34 year old Australian woman who never watched these shows (both because I was too old to really get into them when they came out, and because they were only aired on Foxtel in Australia and I will not give a cent to that company if I can help it) and yet I have still watched every single one of these documentaries you have put together, because you've made it so interesting. I hope things are starting to get better for you!
I agree with you about the delay; I really enjoy this series and am fine waiting as long as Quinton needs: to make it and for his own mental health. On another note: as someone not from Australia who has never heard of Foxtel- what is it and what bothers you with it?
@@wallystogner90 yeah, what the other person said. But back in the mid 2000's it was free to air Australian channels or Foxtel, and my parents weren't paying for Foxtel, and when I became an adult, I refused to pay for it either. In addition, it's owned by Fox, and that company is pure evil
@@wallystogner90 for more context, foxtel is the monopoly pay tv provider in australia and was the only non free to air tv service before streaming services. As per the name it's owned by newscorp/fox
I was the right age for it, and maybe even the right demographic, but iCarly to me seemed too girly I don't think it's a bad thing that quinton is so enthusiastic about these shows, but.. they really didn't seem like anything special to me at the time. guess I was wrong.
Sorry that you’re feeling down, Quinton. For what it’s worth, I don’t think you’ve failed at all. Your first few videos introduced me to shows I never gave more than a minute as a kid, yet have really enjoyed learning about and getting to know the people behind said shows and what they went through. Thanks for working so hard on all these videos.
Quinton has created something exceding the standards of the platfrom, he can be proud even if sometimes it can be hard to give yourself that kind of credit
Going from the pilot where Cat hugs Sam after agreeing to live with her and declares that this is the best day ever to the finale where Sam purposely leaves Cat in prison just so she can get homecooked meals and clean laundry is honestly really tragic when you think about it. Like, it really serves to highlight just how terrible this relationship is.
i don’t think anyone out there deserves to hear “hey that was worth the wait” than you. thank you Quinton, this was so worth the wait. thank you my guy.
3:54:24 the fact that quinton's dad immediately has the Same complaint about the pear devices that quinton has previously gone on a whole long rant about ? amazing
Rewatching this for a third time before the new video- just noticing how similar you are to your father as far as explaining sitcom properties goes; together you’re both adorable and it was lovely to see you do your work together ❤
Seeing Quinton and his father both looking absolutely dead inside as they listen to eachother's strange fascination with media outside their expected demographic is kinda delightful in a weird way
The biggest problem with the theme song. You have TWO music artists as your main characters and neither of them sing the theme song? Zoey 101 theme song sung by Zoey. Drake and Josh theme song was sung by Drake. iCarly theme song was song by Carly (and Drake). VicTORIous was sung by Tori. Why wasn't Sam and Cat sung by Sam or Cat?
Even if neither of them sang, at least have a woman sing in a show named after the two FEMALE protagonists, not a man. Also, it would've been a good chance to have a duet between Jennette and Ariana
I think it had to do with what Quinton said in this video, that the show team(I forgot who but isn't it ariana herself..?) didn't want to make Sam & Cat a singing show like Victorious thus not make the two main cast sing for their own show to insinuate that but idk tho
I think Sam And Cat is the first show in quite a while to break the trend of a main character singing the theme song. Drake Bell sang the Drake and Josh theme, Jamie Lynn Spears sang the Zoey101 theme, Miranda Cosgrove sang the iCarly theme, and Victoria Justice sang the Victorious theme. The creator asked Jeanette and Ariana to sing the theme and they both declined.
1:50:17 made me stop cold. They seriously wrote a scene where Sam and Cat fight because *Sam is eating too much*? Holy shit, the levels of disrespect the writers had for their actors' struggles is insane (edit to fix timestamp, lol)
Even if you don't know who he is, you'll wake up one day thinking "man, I really would love to watch a 5 hour video essay of a nickelodeon show" it's just hardwired in your brain
Ok, the joke with the British guy saying “cheers” and Sam and Cat replying with “Seinfeld” “Friends” took me by surprise when it made me laugh. I certainly appreciate Quinton reviews kid’s shows that I was too old to be interested in, make me interested enough to watch multiple marathon-length essays about them and yet satisfied to never watch those shows.
Same, I was hard at work at this time, I had no time to care about whatever flatulent disneysitcom Nickelodeon was shelling out down people’s noses to notice any new shows… plus, I think my sister got sick and tired of Nickelodeon also… There was a lot more Law & Order on the family’s TV set playing while I was watching RUclips on my ipod touch.

One thing i admire so much about Jeanette is her going 'yeah I was jealous of Ariana. She had what I wanted' instead of trying to sugar coat it
its honestly big of her to say that! people always say 'the only way to cure your jealousy is to get what the other person has' but that's just not realistic a lot of times. i think she handled her jealousy so maturely despite the fact that it was... warranted. I definitely wouldn't have been able to handle it.
@@scottyb8392 who's saying that?
And her being worked harder than ari
That’s an ouch
thats some bojack horseman s5 shit (refering to philbert)
You know they really had no excuse to undersell the iCarly half of the show, because like... Sam was in iCarly. She was half the face of it. iCarly was such a HUGE cultural phenomenon, they made news multiple times, and now here's Sam with a babysitting service! Literally surrounded by children as part of the entire plot, but the kids never react to her, they never get business BECAUSE she was from iCarly, what's even the point??
Yeahhh it’s very weird in universe with that in mind but like somehow the show almost made me forget that Sam is supposed to be nearly world famous considering the special in Japan
Yeah that really makes no sense, especially since she gets recognized as Sam from icarly in the first episode and then like what… never again?
I think the writers truly just forgot.

I was gonna get the audible version with her narrating but some of the reviews say it was kind of flat and felt she was rushing thru certain parts so I'm torn.
The single Sam show, of her being a counselor is such a big character development. It would have made so much sense.

It's weird that in the pilot they get promised free hamburgers for life from inside out burger and then for the rest of the show go to a different restaurant for hamburgers.
they probably get free burgers from Good Burger, since that manager has an unnatural attraction to minors & Ed's secret sauce is crazy good.
Theory: Inside Out Burger gets its name because if you eat too many of them, they burn through your stomach lining and turn your stomach inside out, either giving you severe chemical burns and a trip to the hospital or killing you depending on how fast the ambulance gets there. I'm certainly not the first person to say this but watching this now and knowing that Jennette McCurdy was struggling with an eating disorder makes all the emphasis around food with Sam's character all the more fucked up.
and it's very likely the writers knew this which is why they included it, the same for giving her an abusive distant mother
@@meevins from what we are told, Jennette told HR and the directors to "knock it off with all the food" many times and nothing was done about it. im very sure the writers were aware and there was nothing they could do about it.
I was thinking that, too. It must have been pure torture for her.

His actor is also nice too: Jennette was having a panic attack on set and he took her to her dressing room and actually comforted her
💕yes 👏
he becomes a villain in henry danger
I was gonna say that it's because he is neurodivergent and they didn't want to make such a character hateable
But being fair, all characters seem mentally unstable
The weird thing about putting Sam and Cat together is they're both such heavily exaggerated characters that neither of them can really be the "grounded" one. They're each the kind of character that needs a more grounded character to play off of. Having too over the top characters being over the top together just makes things feel monotonous.
Yeah, watching the show kinda of felt like sometimes one character was meant to be grounded one episode, then it would switch in the next.
Yeah, in comedy there’s a straight man and in this duo there’s no straight man to react to their shenanigans
@@panashe5268 like when Friends ended and Joey (of all people) got his own spin-off show which was a huge flop.

@@harrylane4 what kind of behaviour was the victorious cast showing?
Noah has said he felt uncomfortable with the joke where the takes off shirt, which is why in the later seasons of icarly they stop doing it and there's that one scene where he specially mentions he doesn't do it anymore so, it's really messed up that they just made him do it again in the gibby pilot.
The kids not actually being friends and Gibby being the overly optimistic guidance counselor could have been a really funny idea in the right hands.

@@xkawaiikristinx She's a rich girl who was determined to do whatever it took, including fetish stuff, to be famous. @@TacticusPrime I never said that, but either way Ariana just like Jenette was a child, so it's disgusting your blaming a kid when she possibly didn't even realize the true nature of it. @@xkawaiikristinx yeah. Both are victims. He never said they weren't, he is just trying to convey the difference and you're refusing to see it. One could walk away from the show and she would've been fine, probably barely even noticing it, while the other was in a very different situation that she clearly felt much worse about, and leaving on a whim was no where near an option.
What's really obvious and disgusting here is that you're feigning sympathy for Jeanette because you're clearly way too into Arianna, thinking she can only be a victim, but you know that minimizing what Jeanette went through won't get you those likes you're so desperate for.
@@xkawaiikristinx if you need an example of how much of a hypocrite you've been, you finished your last comment with "it's not a damn contest" but began your first comment saying you feel for Jeanette BUT "Arianna is the most exploited nickelodeon star".
This is an accurate breakdown. This is why Regular Show always stood out to me
This explains a lot.
My mom is an Activities Director. She describes Bingo as video games to us.

April fool's day must have been kind to you this year.

I loved how he dissociated while his dad explained old sitcoms. Now Quinton knows how WE feel!
Ikr I was so happy when I realized they used cameo for it
My jaw dropped when I saw that! I'm just so amazed by the amount of effort put in this! I really like that about this series.
I have to agree, that was so well done!!!
I can only imagine how much he paid to have him do that 🥲 true dedication
I want a fanfic where the Superposition collapses and all the characters suddenly become aware of all the discrepancies and have to explore the psychological ramifications of knowing everything is so very wrong.
After reading Jeanette's book, I am so angry that Nickelodian went along with this show instead of going with the original idea "Just Puckett" which would have been a harrowing story about Sam (a former juvenile delinquent) becoming a guidance cousoler at a high school.
It was such a great idea and had way more potential than this train wreck. Hell, Cat or Jade or other popular characters from other Nickelodian shows could have been supporting roles, this bringing the shared universe together.
nickelodian
@@clug906 Nickiladean don't deserve being correctly spelled in this context
“Just Puckette”
Sounds like “Just F_ck it” LMAO
That would be hella cool
Yes, I was thinking something similar when he said Cat wouldn't work at a middle school. Like, why not? Would have been a way better show
someone write this fanfiction now
Why can't we get shows like this? We DESERVE shows like this. All they have to do is TRY.
I _love_ this. So much so that I'm truly disappointed now that I've read it, bc i know I'll never get it.
She could have been a music teacher! She could have taught choir! They could have LET HER SING!
“Later in the day, Sam is visited by none other than BEN SHAPIRO.”
I don’t know why, but Quinton’s way of saying this with complete sincerity while also sounding cheekily self-aware that this is a joke, coupled with how unexpected and unprepared I was, made me CACKLE when I heard this part 😂
I was cleaning and had my phone on my dresser. I had to rewind that part and then I laughed at myself and laughed cause it was such a good joke. I half believed it for a second there 😂😂
@Aquarius Amethyst I did the same thing! 😂

Well yes actually. My grandma made that decision to go to a home. Of course she was 105 years old at the time.

Sir Quinton.
(Also, love the Russ Reviews short, he did a great job!)

i rewatch this series whenever i feel depressed (frequently) and the highlight of this watch through is the way russ says "look! the pear pad!" bc he clearly recognizes it from what i can only assume are quinton's frequent rants on the subject is so sweet to me
I genuinely feel like your dad is really listenable and sounds like he's been doing this for years. I'm ready to watch his 5 hour video essay about the Happy Days universe whenever it comes out.
Quinton should get his dad to do a Quinton Reviews video for him and not once ever acknowledge that it's his dad and not Quinton doing the video
that was the greatest part of this video imo, hope he gets his dad involved more because he's amazing

Jennette's book is so powerful, it's shocking what she was dealing with behind the scenes in silence.
this isn't a failure. it feels like it's only been a day since your last video.
really hoping that things pick up for you, quinton. you deserve it a million times over.
Fun fact 3:15:10
Jennette is wearing the T-shirt of one of my friends who wrote a song about her. I absolutely lost it the first time I saw this on air. I know this wasn’t a great time for her but I really appreciate that she showed love to Turbo T Double TSST in this episode.
That’s amazing! I know it’s been a long time but do you know the meaning of Turbo T? I wanna know too! 😂
I think you can lump in iCarly and Victorious as well
The fact that the smallest part of this franchise has taken him this long has led me to believe that he's finally talking about the _feet_

She's talked about how bad just playing her made her feel.
that's so sad. going through her book now and its heavy

Going from the pilot where Cat hugs Sam after agreeing to live with her and declares that this is the best day ever to the finale where Sam purposely leaves Cat in prison just so she can get homecooked meals and clean laundry is honestly really tragic when you think about it.
Also, it would've been a good chance to have a duet between Jennette and Ariana
haha, i was annoyed by that too when sam & cat first came out
I think it had to do with what Quinton said in this video, that the show team(I forgot who but isn't it ariana herself..?) didn't want to make Sam & Cat a singing show like Victorious thus not make the two main cast sing for their own show to insinuate that but idk tho
