1962 Tonka Allied Van Lines Moving Semi Truck Restoration

- I purchased this 1962 Tonka Allied Van Lines Moving Semi Truck on HiBid March of 2021. This thing was in terrible shape and obviously has lived outside most of its life. The tractor / truck body was soo faded that it didn't even look orange anymore, I was only able to verify the correct color after removing the grille and finding some paint that had not been faded. The Van body was extremely rusted and after sandblasting had many holes in the front of the body almost like it was full of water at one point in its life. I spent a ton of time filling and sanding holes as well as rough spots. I didn't get all of them, however it was way better than what it was when I started. Overall I was extremely happy with this build. It was missing a windshield, and the door handles otherwise it was super complete when I got it. The only thing I didn't like was that the van body was all welded together. Definably was a fun project, however I don't believe I will be looking for any welded body semi trucks in the future. I estimate I had 3 plus hours into sandblasting the semi body alone due to how it is constructed.

My family got this Allied Van Lines truck for Christmas one year. The best present we ever got. You did a brilliant job restoring it and my memories.
I can just see this truck sitting proudly under some Christmas tree somewhere back in the day! Things must have ben much lighter back in the 60s' too since my van has a 15,000 GVW and this is a whole trailer truck!
Was going to say those spiders and nest were already dead, but you sent them straight to hell anyways. Beautiful restoration.
Thanks for watching! It's amazing how many spiders I keep coming across.
Hey, I remember that truck. That company moved several families in my parents back yard throughout the mid 60’s! 💰💰💰
Reading your comment made their theme song play in my head...lol I remember too. 🤣

Ty Another great Sunday coffee and Chip Channel .🎉🎉🇺🇸
Soon u will need bigger table, so many great restores 👍👍👍
You need to give one of your sheep vampire fangs for Halloween. Stunning restoration!
Congratulation chip Channel the Fábio and Rafael from Brazil. The best job and restauration.
You know I've watched a few episodes now, and I always see the before footage and think, "that's just a mess." But they always look so nice when your done. Satisfying everytime. 🥰😉♥️♥️
I have/had the same semi only my cab was a different design, single headlights, different grill. When you mentioned all the rust at the front of the trailer and how rusty the whole unit was I think I know why. As a child, whenever my family took me to the beach my Tonka trucks came with me. Often they would get wet as the tide came in. These constant salt-water baths ate away the metal, especially the axles.
wow dude!
Your video is great, I'm watching it with pleasure. It's like a documentary, thank you
As soon as I saw that there was another Chip video, I hit the play button n the like too. Lol. 👍👍👍🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🦘🦘
Nothing is so satisfying as watching all your repair patches, putty marks, guidelines, etc, disappear under primer and look smooth and pristine. The best work you can do is when it doesn't look like you did any:)
Oh, that was really nice. I remember when these trucks were on the road. And thank you for sharing the sheep at the end. I didn't think I would miss them until you didn't show them! 🤣 Thanks for this wonderful restoration and ride down memory lane.
Am I the only one who expected the windshield to re-appear with the text "I'm OK!" ?
😳🤣🤣👍
Really enjoyed this restoration. I had one of these as a child 60+ years ago. Brought back good memories. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching!
@@ChipChannelRestorations hey, what is the purpose of electroplating?
I had one too! Mine had a u.s highway sign with a #1 on it ,next generation, squared off trailer and restyled truck!
Yeah ! Beautiful restoration 😃🙌
Chip, you just made my Sunday. Sitting here with a great cup of coffee and watching your video. Thank you! Give cuddles to the cat inspector for me.
Watching you hand sand all of those parts makes my fingers ache. Nice work Chip!!!
That orange really pops on this truck. Beautiful job😁👍😇
Awesome job, as always! You have a beautiful cat also..
Good day to you Chip Channel Restorations, I really ejoyed watching you make this 1962 Tanka look BRAND NEW again!! WOW! Your know how, skills, and the right tools for the job was AWESOME! My favorite part is always the SAND BLASTING and Your HUMOR! I'm an old 1963 model myself hahaha. Have a great day and Thank you for your SUPER FUN CREATIVE VIDEOS! EXCELLENT JOB!
Very nice job… lot of work on that restored piece for sure…
This one started off in remarkably good shape all things considered. The trailer doors were still there, the little headlight nubbies weren't discolored... Although the trailer was awfully thin... Great job as always!
Another awesome restoration. Great looking rig. Nicely done. 💕😻💕😊💕 Love seeing Beaker. Gorgeous Kitty 😺
I watch other similar channels, but this is my favourite because of the junkyard, the fleet of restored models and the cat. Definitley the cat.
i miss the sheep antics, please continue to do them they are so funny. great work as usual
love watching you fix these toys
Very wonderful work my friend, as long as you are a fountain of creativity, you accept my traffic and my respect for you
Watched this at double speed, much more enjoyable.
The great passion you have for these restorations really shows in the paint finish.
Another classic model save from the recycling!
And your cohosts, The Sheep and Beaker! Thank you!
Thank you very much! and Thanks for watching!

Tell me I'm not the only one that squints his eyes and holds his breath, even chokes at times, when he is using the sand blaster. Like the sand is going to come out of the screen 😂😂😂
I love this site so much. If our man stopped doing the thumbs up, I would cease to watch it anymore as if always makes me chuckle.

Yes another super great restoration. With hi Quality video illustration. This is a great channel
I bought this same truck on e-bay only in mint condition and I repainted it with the vintage Republic Van Lines brown & tan colors, my grandfather use to be a truck driver for Republic, I was so proud of the job I did, but all I did was paint, you do a complete frame off, I would try it but no equipment, IE sand blaster, chrome plating, powder coating etc..........GREAT WORK ! ! !
Thats super slick.Wish I were set up to do this stuff, its right up my alley.
My son loves watching you restore these! You’ve got a big two year old fan!
Yeech! Spider's freak me out too. That truck was clearly sitting in someone's basement for some time. Beautiful restoration as always.
Many thanks, I have really enjoyed watching this video. My hobby is restoring full-size old trucks then using them back on the road again. After my current restoration is finished my next project is an exceedinly rare International truck.
David in the U.K.
Cómo siempre un excelente trabajo! Y muchos grillos también ja
Man I LOVE your graveyard i could look at it all day
Shine a light through the back of the trailer and make star patterns on the wall as in a planetarium.
Ещё одной игрушки продлена жизнь! Супер!👍👍👍
Wow this one is great! I could've used it to move into my new place back in August WOW!
Can you imagine getting up on Christmas morning as a kid and seeing that under the tree! Such a cool truck!
Beautiful work!
I wouldn’t be surprised if Allied Van Lines offered to purchase it.
I love watching you turn back time and bringing so beautifully back to life the toys I played with as a kid!
The Allied truck turned out beautiful. Nice work.
Wow what a glorious Sunday! A Chip video and eagles football!!! Thank you. Growing up in the seventies girls weren’t supposed to like trucks. I secretly envied my brothers playing in the dirt and sand with their tonka trucks while I played with my sister and paper dolls. Yuck! You are an incredible artist.
I can’t get over how satisfying it is to watch sandblasting, I just can’t get enough of it!!!
Beautiful restoration you are the man for this kind of job
Great work looks fantastic
Chip nice job on this restoration. This is my favorite one yet. Good way to spend Sunday. Thanks Chip for taking us along. Peace Brother. Until the next.
Love watching this. Really cool to see old Tonka trucks I used to play with get restored. You are truly talented at that. A true master. That turned out beautiful
Beautiful moving rig...great work‼️👍👍
Lovely restoration…..needs more cat and sheep though!!
You do a good job on restoring them
Love your restorations!!! I missed the sheep in today's video. We love the "I'm OK" Keep up the good work.
This truck turned out amazing. Reminds me of the Tonka Mayflower moving truck I had growing up. Same color orange, flat front cab.
Bonjour à Vous.
Magnifique restauration !😉👍
Toujours plaisant de vous voir travailler !

25:52 : they look like plumbing washers. Brilliant.
SWEET! LOVE ME SOME ORANGE! You did a great job!
Thank you! 😊. This is my favorite color Tonka.
I believe the catspector this time was mostly interested in aviation…. after a quick snack . 😂😂😂
Nice transformation from rusty spidery to blossom new. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I think he should have put the treats INSIDE the van, she could fit in it.
@@mjbirdClavdivs 🧐🧐🧐she is slightly too …. Heavy for the truck to hold her ……..
I'm always amazed at the quality of the metal underneath the paint. The term built "Tonka Tough" was certainly true. But not just Tonka. Back in the day these toys were built to be used. Played with hard and they could take a real pounding. It's such a pity the same quality isn't used nowadays. Great restoration fella. Thanks for sharing 🙂
So true. Toys aren't built like they use to be.
Great restoration!
Takes time and patience to restore theses toys!
I have neither, that's why I watch these videos!
Thanks again for sharing your talent with us!
Amazing how well the white circle graphic on the trailer has held up
Absolutely amazing restoration
High quality restoration well done
My 3 year old son loves watching your work
I had one like this when I was a kid, Amazing Job !!!
What a beautiful Timeless classic. Never see those around anymore
people like this can make a WW2 battlefield look like nothing happened.
We can restore metal toys, but it ain’t so easy revamping plastic (no way in hell you could sandblast plastic without destroying it!)
Glad to see someone with a patient, steady hand in the media blaster
Magnificent treasure! You need some 3D designed/printed furniture in the same scale.
Nicely done!! I remember having a truck just like this one as a kid my sister had a bunch of dollhouses take my truck I would fill up the truck with the all off the stuff from the dollhouses and drive off pretended its moving day then my sister comes to find all of her dollhouses empty then after she left to tell mom I would fill up one of the houses with everything I did it many times until I got busted my dad saw me loading up one of the houses lol.
You do a great job restoring them back to new I love ur videos keep up the great work
I would like to thank you for not playing obnoxious music during your videos. These are great and I thoroughly enjoy watching them.
"Still don't like spiders"
*literally torches the cobwebs*
😂
8:00
I literally clapped when you used the lighter to burn the webs. Bravo! SuPURRvisor approved!
I don't know what's more adorable. The restored toy car or petting your cat. Amazing video once again.
I don't know why but sandblasting is my favourite part. I guess maybe because it starts to show the potential more. What a great job, as always.
My friend, you took us back to childhood days. You are respectful and professional. Thank you very much
Electroplating and sand blasting speaks to me on a spiritual level ! All the other restoration channels never give 100% which is why you are the best ! Love the sheep i was expecting to see one when you opened the rear doors.
In June of 1963, My family moved from Illinois to California - all of our furniture and posessions
were loaded into a giant orange Moving Van. As it drove away and we climbed into the family
car to begin the long cross country drive, I can still remember the Mallard Duck Logo on the
side of the Allied Van Lines truck.
A beautiful restoration, like all of your work, it is of Museum quality and will hopefully preserve
the memory of when the finest of everything, especially toys, were Made In USA !
Through the miracle of the camera we dont know how much time it really took you to restore the truck but im impressed with the time you put into your restorations. Keep up the good work 😀

Lo mejor de estos vídeos es que no tienen música de fondo, el sonido es el que hacen las herramientas al trabajar , es fantástico
ASMR del bueno jajaja

I love watching your restorations. The tow truck that picks up the rusty vehicle is too cute! I can tell you are a perfectionist. You do amazing work! I love your kitty.
Man, they really spared to expense on them details for this one! It got ALL the decals!
As a body and paint guy for almost 35 years this is very satisfying.. well done
I've really enjoyed this marvelous restoration o' that big guy!!
The result's fantastic!!
My admiration from Seville, my dear arachnophobic friend!!

Yay!!! Another Chip Channel restoration! I'm one minute into watching it and I've already hit the "like" button. That's how much I love Chip Channel videos.
It hasn't been a minute an I already got the like button😁

Wow great job again. These toys sure bring back good memories. And your restorations are approved by your quality inspector.
Man what a collection. These need to be in the Smithsonian!
U do great work on re storing those old toys.
