If you want to know the truth about society? Listen to comedians. They tell the true narrative of life and for some crazy reason it makes use laugh because we know it’s the truth.
EXCEPT the system also uses “comedy,” mostly of the very unfunny flavoring, to brainwash the masses. This is more true now than ever.
But yes, they lie on the news and put truth in movies. That kind of thing.
Yup
Rappers to some degree, too
Look at the modern version of comedy, do you think meme culture has been good for society? Comedy like anything else can be co-opted to suit a particular want.
They are the canaries in the coal mine.
Im glad to see people NOT forgetting Richard Pryor. He was one of the top best comedians ever.
One of the trinity
Why would anyone forget about Richard Pryor? Dude was legendary.
He WAS the best.

@@Pinckneyrf who are the other two? Eddie Murphy is one? I'm from the UK so may be ignorant to others. Was it George Carlin?

Lenny Bruce was a huge influence (he was the first to really push bounties besides “take my wife please”

"They don't kill cars"...Is one of the most brilliant lines I've ever heard in comedic social observation. Only Pryor could pull that off.
Could you elaborate for me on that one? I didn't fully understand the joke; I thought it was just wordplay

Richard P. Jokes are still funny! I remember this show from years ago! I'm still laughing at them, his jokes are timeless and classic!
Wild to see the crowd fully lit and being able to see their reactions
Part of that is because they're filming. Film technique has come a long way, but in 1979 if you wanted to film in full color, you needed a TONNNNNN of light.
@@thenudebrewer7466 oh that makes a lot of sense.. but how or why do you know that?
@@rahulonwater I have various experience in film. I'll tell you a quick story of how I *first* learned about it, in the same way you're saying "wow, I never thought of that." It's that my dad was a big fan of the old TV show "Leave it to Beaver."
He was watching some retrospective in the late 80s or something and they were talking about those "glory days" of TV and the topic of when and why they decided to end the show. One reason was the show was fundamentally about the boys being YOUNG ... and they were grown up.
The other was that color TV was taking over and filming in color required so much more lighting that the production didn't want to spend the money. This was actually true for A LOT of shows around that time, the extra lighting that was required to film in color was just not part of their budget and the Fat Cats that paid for things balked at the price to update an OLD show. They'd spend the money on a NEW show, but the old shows were basically written off due to a technology shift. When I first learned all of this, I also said "wow... I never thought of that." I just assumed everyone thought color was OBVIOUSLY better, so they all switched. A lot of people lost their jobs because many shows didn't switch, they were just cancelled and it was because filming in color costs A LOT more money.
Hope that helps! :^)
@@thenudebrewer7466 thank you for sharing that story. I learnt something new today.
It's always sad to see tv show and movie franchises end without giving any closure (unless it's intentional)
Noticed the staff standing against the wall
If you look back at older comedians like him, George Carlin, etc. u can see how accurate they were then and how it all still is true. That’s y I tell ppl to listen to guys live Dave Chappelle and Chris Rock and some of the other greats and even some of the next big ones bc these guys tell it how it is and know what they r talking abt. Comedians r special and it’s scary how accurate some of the shit is
Chapelle and Rock dont hold a candle to Pryor, sorry.
NMP99 How is it scary? Maybe you meant uncanny? Richard Pryor spoke about life. The fact that things haven’t changed for the black experience is shameful. Now that is what’s scary. You can’t even compare the white comedian or his comedy to Pryor’s as they had completely different life experiences. Plus maybe it’s just my preference but George Carlin wasn’t that funny. Maybe it’s simply that I relate to Pryor on a cultural level and Carlin, not at all.
A.H Man Disagree, Chapelle is gold
Jaesha it’s scary how it holds up over time especially with shit like this where it’s been 40 years and barely any change has happened
I think Chris Rock kinda lost his mojo, had to switch off his last netflix special, he just rattled on for 2o mins about rascism 😴
The one thing that makes me happy about this somber set is finding out Naruto running somehow existed back in the 70s

History doesn't repeat, but it does rhyme.
"The more things change the more things stay the same" my young brotha. Same shit new year.
Yall act like some white people don't experience these things. There's videos on youtube of whites who put themselves in predicaments have this done to them.
It’s part of black peoples shared experience because more of them know someone or have a family member it had happened to because they are more often the victims of police in proportion to their percentage of the population.
there's a youtube video of my white friend getting shot by the cops with a cell phone in his hands. Cops thought it was a gun.
True Story - I saved a friend of mine from the Police hurting him about 20 years ago. We were hanging out in front of my house and they pulled up. They began harassing him, but luckily I had a video camera out there at the time. They noticed me recording them and instantly stopped cursing at him. They went from threatening him to calling him sir. It was like both officers switched to their other personality which actually had some decency.
You said it.

Wait... so you're saying, you have a friend?
I'm always amused when younger folks say, "I don't get why people say Pryor's the GOAT...I've heard all this stuff before" without the slightest hint of self-awareness. He's the architect of modern stand up comedy. That his work is still ultra relevant is a failure of our society. That people are still wanting to do things as if it were still the 70s...that's a greater failure of our society.
Spot on and truest statements are found in comedy
Fuck off, Harold. The comedian is one of the most important we have in a society.
I used to think that way about him being the best, but I think a great comedian is somebody who does a lot of improv by doing things off the top of their head, Rodney Dangerfield was excellent at that. I’m not comparing him to Richard Pryor, but over 90% of stand up comedians don’t have that kind of ability
Yeah man, the boomers up to millenials need to stop holding to the past and embrace present. The present is not that bad if we stop holding to the past that makes us do the bad stuff that's happening right now. I'm actually happy about the new generation and I hope we don't corrupt them.
It's cause ppl be dumb, yeah they heard it before from other people that copied him. They don't get the origins.
It's crazy that this relates so much we still dealing with the same problem 30yrs later
Try over 40 years. This was in 1979.
It's sad.
Richard Pryor along with George Carlin will always be my top 2 all time favorite American comedians and I always loved both Richard Pryor and George Carlin the best. Read the book Stranger in a Strange Land. One of the main take aways is that people don't laugh at truly good things. For those they smile. You laugh at the messed up parts of life. A baby hits their day with a bottle is heartwarming but still a violent act. Animals doing messed up things, people getting hurt, nasty things even though child friendly jokes are not really positive. Even when you finally get something good that makes you laugh think if you're laughing at the good thing or more likely the struggle or pain it took to get the good thing.
Comedians like Richard Pryor, Chris Rock and George Carlin tell the unfiltered unapologetic truth in a very funny way and truth and humor are timeless. That's why these greats are timeless.

Richard Pryor had the rare ability to be relevant, relate to every person in every corner of the globe, could (still does) make you laugh, make you cry, make you examine your soul and become a better human being, all while fighting his own demons. This man remans a legend and few will ever be able to reach his lofty heights of being incredible.
"can you break a n****" the best to ever do it,gone but never forgotten. RIP RICHARD PAYOR.
It’s amazing that over the past few decades we laugh at these jokes and jam to music like hip hop, but always seem to miss the message. I think it’s hard to understand different cultures, but we all want the same things. We don’t blend our cultures, we just ‘coexist’. When different races learn of other cultures, it typically through a movie, that fills every stereotype imaginable. We all have our own sob stories filled with bitterness, but we need to find the compassion to help each other let it go. So many talented people, and most don’t realize those jokes are based off of life lessons. Stay happy and healthy people! Hopefully, over the next few decades we can spend our energy building up communities, instead of finding ways to tear them down.
It is not hard to understand different cultures, especially black culture. Whites and Blacks have been around each other for hundreds of years. If you have ever listened to, Ice T's earlier rap songs, NWA songs, or any rapper talking about the police. Then you have heard the message. The problem is that, when it's not happening to you, most people don't care , and lend a deaf ear and a blind eye.
Renee S Yep, but most non-blacks, vice versa, learn about “culture” by the way media or politicians interpret the information, then deliver the wrong message. No matter the political party “leading”. Ice-T was targeted when he came out with “Cop Killer” (he wasn’t talking about all cops) they took away his 1st Amendment rights, removed the original song from the album, debated how his “use of explicit lyrics” needed to be censored, but was the message wrong? This was in the early ‘90s, what has changed? Mob Rule ignored our guaranteed rights, because it’s unpopular speech. We all have rights, and we all need to defend those precious rights guaranteed the day we were born. Coming together towards the positives will benefit us all.
I'm white and I don't ever want to "not see color" -- black skin represents an entire cultural heritage, a history of adversity and overcoming adversity, and being strong and united in brotherhood and sisterhood. I would like a world where differences are respected, but everyone is treated as equals. There is much to be done to get there. I hold onto the belief we can still get there.
@@nutmusic3747 indeed, and the "not seeing of color" is a big reason why some folks dont realize that racism is still alive and well just because it isnt happening to them. its important to recognize and celebrate our differences over acting like they don't exist and turning a blind eye to all the issues that arise from the ignorance

What he said was probably true 50 yrs ago. It's not true today.
Absolutely brilliant.
Happy Heavenly Birthday to this legend. 🐐
Love this guy. His movies and stand up was great🤘
One of the best stand up performances of all time, watched this show over and over and never stops being funny
Truly the very best.
It goes Richard then Dave. Two of the best
I remember this coming out. I was 13 yrs old... Best comedian ever......
I know this isn't the most poignant takeaway but... Did Richard Prior just invent the Naruto Run?
Masashi Kishimoto must've seen this bit and was like "I can use this somewhere". XD
🤣
FACTS!
@@mugsmctuggs1318 you’re*
That's your take away!??! Sheesh, no wonder your generation is so useless and confused...
You sign less papers when you kill someone compared to injuring them.
*Learned that from a military vet in high school.*
I learned it from an old Field Training Officer who was 30 days away from retirement from the force in a criminology class at a community college...
Fewer*. Are you sure that you were educated?
@@hlc5410 Yeah dickwad.
@@oneeco You forgot to use a comma between "yeah" and "dickwad". Go back to school.
@@hlc5410 You don't place the period after a "quote." So much for education.
I love this guy! He really made me laugh growing up.
Pryor is the best comic of all time, anyone else suffers from Recent Bias. His ability to convey a dog's outlook toward a chase is too hard for any other comic. Pryor shows us Jim Crow is still going on in 2021.
“Pryor shows us Jim Crow is still going on in 2021.”
Keep grossly exaggerating current day reality here, Jerry.
The greatest of all time EVERYONE else is just a copy of this man he was a master !
Pryor Without Question Is The G.O.A.T. In A Class All By Himself 👍
Dave Chappelle and Eddie Murphy give Pryor as their inspiration. Pryor is the greatest who inspired today's greatest comedians.
I'm sorry, but Dave is even funnier.
Richard Pryor is one of the goats but not everyone comedian is a copy and paste. There are different styles. He definitely was one of the pioneers and a legendary comedian.
R.I.P my friend.
This is years before I was even born, but I went down a rabbit hole. I am so impressed, literal definition of timeless. Imagine making someone 40 years later who sees it for the first time, laugh.
Brother went straight up Naruto. History doesn't repeat, but it does rhyme. Funny as hell!
So as it still holds true today. RIP Rchard Pryor. 💔
The GREATEST COMEDIAN OF ALL TIME!
He was good but I wouldn't go that far.
@@thefracturedbutwhole5475 NO ? ask your favorite comic who is his favorite comic....It would be akin to someone saying Bruce Lee is not the greatest martial art film star...
This got me laughing and for a minute I forgot that I was broke😂
The 1st minute is so absolutely strong by itself.
