Russians have the technical and Industrial ability. The only problem is corruption and lack of economic / entrepreneurial prowess. They should be competing with Boeing, Toyota, BMW, Apple, Samsung etc in the global market. They have corrupt oligarchs who love importing western products rather than building their own.

Russia wanted to belong, and so it incorporated itself in the global economy, ceding many industries and technologies, to buy from countries where this might be cheaper or that more abundant. Russia has learned its lessons, and after this war, it will not be doing anyone any favours. It will be a Russia first country. The Europeans can forget about getting oil and natural gas at such concessionary and long term prices that this spawns a secondary market where thy resell Russian energy to each other at a profit. Russia will never allow any country to hold its foreign reserves, and that is why these countries should prepare to pay in gold or other tangible assert, rather in their own fiat currencies they can manipulate and impound when and where their avarice and political scheming so incline them.

To survive in the wide-body arena you need to be able to build 2-engine models like the B777, or B787 instead of 4 engines that is why airlines are retiring the B747, and A340 because of their 4-engine configuration.
