fun fact, in the same week where the original tournament was held, the duel Yugi vs Mai was published in Weekly Shonen Jump and Black Luster Soldier, the number 1 prize card of the tournament, made its debut. I can only imagine that this must have been a deliberate bit of cross-promotion.

I played the SHIT out of Dark Duel Stories as a kid, & unironically my favourite character to fight was Weevil. He has the Cocoon of Evolution in this game & I ALWAYS loved seeing how absolutely broken that card was. A normal summonable 2000 defense monster that transforms into a 2600 attack beater then a massive 3500 monster with each of his standby phases. & that's WITHOUT Forest active. I always remember him getting Forest & Cocoon of Evolution up, which made them into 2600 def, 3380 atk, then a massive 4550 atk. PUGM was literally stronger than Blue Eyes Ultimate. Ever since playing this game as a kid the Cocoon of Evolution line has genuinely been my favourite 3 monsters in the game.
I also played Sacred Cards as a kid, which just so happened to have had the same overpowered Cocoon of Evolution in it, & I abused the hell out of it to beat the game, running an Insect deck as soon as I got that card.

I've legit watched this video like 3 times. This summer, I randomly decided to revisit the Japanese Yu-Gi-Oh games on GBC and found this video. I've completed DM1 so far and just started DM2. Gotta say the first game is much easier if you use the password for Seiyaryu which has 2500 attack points lol. Can't wait to see games like Duelist of the Roses and Falsebound Kingdom on the Road to Master Duel. Love the videos ✌️

I lost a grand total of four duels TOTAL in Duel Monsters 1 for the Gameboy (all Kaiba too lmao) when I played through it a couple months ago. I have no idea where you got the idea it's so hard lmao. The card drops in game make up tenfold, but maybe I just got insanely lucky... But I also never saw Great Moth apparently, that's actually insane Weevil had that.

Do you know any code or something to remove these limitations?

Good video ! I've probably spent too much time of my life on these games, since I've spent several years disassembling these specific four games on datacrystal, especially DM3 Dark Duel Stories.
    I have a few comments:
16:34 : Only 1 in 8 saves will have a chance to get Solomon Muto to give a card. If your save has gotten a random number at the start of the game that allows it to generate Solomon Muto, you have a 1/256 chance to activate Solomon Muto after each duel. If your save did not get the 1/8 good random number at the start of the game, it will never have Solomon Muto.
    29:07 : 9870 cards, actually.
35:06 : Marik and Yami Bakura have 3 Jirai Gumo in their decks too.

    • @IceshadeComets
      @IceshadeComets  Год назад +1

      1. Oh shit I got lucky on my playthrough then, i didn't even realize that was a thing. I just assumed it was natural due to how slow the progression was in general.
      2. Damn, that's like double the cards from what I said, I really like the card combination mechanic in this game, and hope it would return some time later in the future.
      3. Yeah, pretty crazy to think that the whole game would be based around high attack monsters with 2000 attack or higher, card construction was a really good mechanic, as without it, this game would be as hard as forbidden memories.
Thanks for your insight, i'll probably return to Road to Master Duel this summer, just finishing up my college degree before then.

Something worth considering in Duel monster II, it uses the same fusion system as Forbidden Memories, so you don't have to grind that much for beaters if you know how to fuse, but holy sh1t that deck cost system taking away 50 points from you when using the password system is pretty rough

tbf, using the password is essentially cheating. You are getting cards you should not have. Adding a cost to breaking the progression system of a game seems like a no-brainer decision for me

    • @el_cores
      @el_cores 7 месяцев назад

@@ich3730but the password system it's an option that you have already on the menu, it's not like a cheatcode or a combination of buttons that you have to do in order to access it.
I agree that you should have a cost to use it. However, the game it's already grind-heavy to begin with, you get only 1 card dropped at a time and 3(IIRC) points per win so 50 points of cost EVEN if you made a mistake choosing the option or input the code wrong it's too much. 20 points or 25 would have been fine

I've obtained all 3 god cards in DM4 on original hardware, it was a huge pain in the ass obtaining them in yugi version because you cannot use a lot of spells and traps so you have to rely on monsters's effects such as mammoth graveyard (reduce 1 level of all your opponent's monsters) and fiend's hand (destroy 1 monster on your opponent's field) And to add salt to the wound you are not able to use a lot of dragons so using the fusion mechanic was difficult as well. However, while researching for good low-level monsters, I discovered that there are some speedruns of this game so if I come back to them, I will try to do a run

Ready to lose even more respect for ritual monsters in these games? Let's say you jump through all the necessary hoops to properly ritual summon Relinquished. It will come into play *face-up.* And since all effects are basically flip effects in these games, you can't use its effect now. You just threw away four cards to summon a 0/0 vanilla, which is also divine attribute so it can't even kill things with type advantage.
Oh, and if you manage to get a copy of Relinquished or Thousand-Eyes Restrict, you can just normal summon them for free and use their effects with no problem.

    • @IceshadeComets

@@IceshadeComets Relinquished is. Thousand-Eyes Restrict can be summoned by fusion just like in the show and real life game, if I remember correctly. But in both cases, they're useless when summoned that way.
I think the GBA games, Sacred Cards and Reshef of Destruction, fixed this problem by having rituals and fusions come into play face down. But they're still not worth summoning the hard way.

I think being forced to attack or put the monster in defense mode in that first game makes for a very interesting wrinkle in the rules. It would completely change the way we play the game. Want to skip the battle step? Put all your monsters in defense mode. That could be very fun for a while.

hi sir!!!! i played Duel Monsters 4 and manage to get the god cards,,, here are their effects...
OBELISK: destroys monsters and trap card on the opponents field and strike 4000atk on opponents LP
OSIRIS: powers up itself by the number of cards in your hand up to 2 lvs so 1000 pts for Atk and Def..
RA: summons monsters from the graveyard to your side of the field...in my experience RA summoned 2 monsters at the same time...
in order to get them you must duel Yami Yugi(OSIRIS), Bakura(OBELISK) and Marik (RA) many times until they give them to you..then trade to other version of the game..all of them has 4000atk and def..in my experience you can megamorph them up 2x (+1000)...your lucky you havent fought them in battle because they are actually in their deck...i already experience it.. Yami Yugi has OSIRIS and of course Marik has RA... for OBELISK..... you never mentioned it... Ishizu has it... YEP!!!!! if you let your guard down... Ishizu can summon Obelisk...
for me DArk Duel Stories (US) was my first game that introduced me into Yugioh videogame... i enjoyed playing both Dark Duel Stories and DM4... anyways Nice video sir and really informative!!!....

Actually RA is the best. If i remember correctly the efect of ra is like monster reborn (×2) + change of heart.
Yes you got the most powerful monster your opponent has on field + revive the last monster in the opponent gy + revive the last monster in your gy(most of the times is the 3rd monster tributed for RAs summoning)
Thats why i think that the joey version is the best: best god, can use relinquished, thousand eyes restrict, king of swamp(effect = dark hole), great moth cards...
Also if i remember correctly(but note 100% sure if i remembered the correctly) change of heart, dark hole, mega morph, torrencial rain, trap hole, windspred ruin...

Watching this video gives me an itch to replay the 3rd one again. To bad we [over seas fans] never got the fourth one and Joey didn’t beat Marik. Would of been a unique and nice story. Looking back I’m surprised I never abused the creation system. I managed to beat the game when it was out. I don’t remember Dark Knight being that hard. I remember beating everyone even Nightmare. weird i played dark duel stories recently and i beat darknite 5 out of 5 times, so he was really easy for me, i didnt use any passwords either, i just had a bunch of level 4 2000 attack custom cards in my deck, i had about 800 to 900 deck cost total, with that you can basically use 20+ 2k beaters considering the cost per card is between 20 and 40, so 30 on average, that means you can fit 30 of these in your deck and if you actually know about weaknesses you can overcome anything, even jirai gumo isnt an issue since hes weak to fire. the only difficult monsters to beat are divine monsters, if they summon those with the help of swords of revealing light you are basically done. after i beat all of the additional opponents after dark nite i think i had so much deck cost that my entire deck was basically only level 4 2000 monsters, with that you have about a 90% chance of victory against anyone, also it depends on how lucky you get with your part drops ofc.

its so peak capitalism that they essentially released the same game 4 times with minimal improvements AND THEN decided to do the pokemon scam of cutting the content into 3 versions as well. That way people can buy the same game 6 times xDDD
