    It's ocho with a soft ch as you'd hear in chair, Bacardi is also pronounced with the stress on the 'i' instead of the 'a' as we would typically say in English

      Stevo. I think Bacardi 8 would hit that Diplomatico market easily on blind tastings. Very approachable. Very easy drinking. Really decent. Not epic. But decent.

    My dear friend, I may not be Spanish, but I did grow up watching my sister, watch Dora, the explorer, and the phonetic pronunciation of eight or Ocho is oh Choe that’s the best way I can try to describe it but if you need a better reference I do recall there was a song by French Montana called Ocho Cinco and they said many times in that song 😁👍

    How I know I still have a long way to go on my rum journey is when you say that the finish is lovely full of fruit flavours, meanwhile I have written down for the finish: "short, not complex" hahahha

    Very informative video as ever Steve
    I've said in the discord that I'm searching for 8 year old rum to have as a 8 year anniversary present from my wife, drinking mostly spiced rum and sipping stuff like chairman's reserve and havana spiced, you recommended the ocho
    I love you're videos as lets face it the working class are mainly gonna look at 30 quid rum as high there version of high end 50 quid rum as dream rum

      Not quite the video I thought I'd done, but they will help if you're still ignoring the Appleton 8 recommendation. Remember what i said, there aren't actually many 8yo Rums out there... ruclips.net/video/aSCzqztSVIY/видео.html & this Members follow up; ruclips.net/video/NonL7Pv_k7I/видео.html then there's this one featuring Santiago 8yo; ruclips.net/video/IHnbZnMiq5Y/видео.html Also note, the Diplo Mantuano is NOT an 8yo Rum. It's essentially a 3yo Rum. It just has Blends of Rum UP to 8yo. It's why there's no age statement on the bottle. Age Statements can only refer to the youngest Rum in the Bottle. So for example, Appleton 8yo has 8,12 & 15yo Rums in there, but the predominant and the youngest Rum is 8yo. Final thing... the Santiago is the only 8yo Rum i've not done a standalone video about, but you'll get the gist from the other videos I've shared.

Basically, they're 2x "Multi Country Blended Rums" created by David Cordoba, aka Mr Daiquiri, aka the old Global (I think) Bacardi Brand Ambassador. Lovers is a Lighter Rum created for Daiquiris. Forza is slightly heavier. I love to sip both though.

      @@StevetheBarmanUK speaking of Bacardi I would love it if you could try the Bacardi Ocho rye cask it was the first real rum that I tried, and as a mainly whiskey drinker myself this was very pleasant for me drinking neat from what I was told by the lady who was giving out samples that they were finished in Angels envy rye barrels and i love my angels envy. It’s one of my favourite ryes overall and this just work so good that being said, I haven’t really tried any other rums but because of it, I’ve become more open and looking to try more things like it so I would love for you to try it and see and hear your thoughts and opinions on it, and things that may be able to compare to it in the rum world

    I tried this rum and it was the first rum that I legitimately hated, it tastes like vanilla wood polish and does not have a nice aftertaste. Id give it a a 5/10 and is barely drinkable when desperate. The version that is 45% and in rye casks is barely better. I dont think ill be buying bacardi again.

    Bought a botle las week and I was shocked about the taste of this rum. 20/25 years ago, this used to be our pick when fishing in Bahamas, but according to my last experience last week it has changed so much that I almost cant believe. So, two concerns came out to my mind: 1) is it possible my palate has changed so much at a point I cant even recognize this booze? 2) they have changed the formula over de years.
    Let me tell you that I almost dont drink rums and lately burbons are my go to.
    I ve found the bacardi 8 very dry an 20 y ago I remember it was very "smooth" in my mouth. Do you guess tve formula has changed? ( at that time even de label was diferent and Im almost 100% that was saying was made in cuba not porto rico)
    Tnx for the review Steve!

    • @StevetheBarmanUK
      @StevetheBarmanUK  Год назад

      Yeah. Like most Rums. Even Appleton. They’ll have all been reblended at some point in the last 15/20 years. I’m simply cos palates change and evolve. Plus barrels will change cos say whiskey will have changed which will leave different tastes on a Whiskey/Port/Sherry etc barrel.

    The 8 and 10 year Bacardi are nice but way too thin. They would benefit from being bottled at some sweet spot between 50% and 60%. It would be a fruit bomb.
