- In today's homeschooling video, I am sharing a sneak peek of what we are doing for elementary science for next school year. I have heard so much about The Good and the Beautiful that I couldn't resist trying it for myself. I spoke with the company and they were kind enough to send me two of the units that I requested.
Today I am going to show you what a typical science unit from The Good and the Beautiful looks like and how I set it up and organized it.
We haven't started the program yet but I am so impressed with the quality of the pictures and the topics covered in each unit and I can't wait to try it out in the fall!

Hi. I'm currently using the Space Science unit and my son and I love it. We have meteorology up next. If you're not following them on social media, you really should. Every so often you're able to get units for free. I've gotten 2 units for free so far. I love your channel and I'm a fellow Disney lover😁
Yes, I'm following them on social media and that's how I got their chemistry unit for free! They are such an amazing and generous company! I'm so glad you love my channel! Disney is the best, isn't it?
Great video! I don't home-school, but I'm a SAHM who also works about 15 hours a week from home. Every summer I try to find something fun and educational for my kids to do while I work. My son will be going into 4th grade this fall so I think this would be a great review for him since he love science!
It's perfect for summer lessons that are fun! I hope your son likes using it!
I love your commentaries on the pictures. Hilarious. My sentiments exactly; especially the spider.
Well, most bugs are just gross! I'd take a spider of a beetle any day!
I am purchasing the Human Body Unit. I like the way that you have organized this. Thanks for sharing.
I hope you love it and have as much fun with it as we did this unit!
TFS! I’m looking forward to this unit next year. We’re doing the exact same units for our science. My kids are uber excited! I’ll be honest... I’m a little excited too.
We love the good and the beautiful! We just received the human body science and can't wait to start it!
I know, I wanted the human body one, too. I'm really excited about Anthropods though and I can't wait for them to release their Botany unit.
Thanks for sharing! I've been researching TGTB and it looks so great! We will be using this in most subjects in the near future :)
They really do seem amazing! We might try their new high school unit for my soon-to-be 9th grader. I'm not sure since I've already purchased something else to use with her but I really really want to use TGTB.
Thank you for all the helpful information and making me laugh ❤️!! The 2019-2020 school year will be our first year homeschooling and I’m so excited! I’ve really enjoyed your channel so thank you.
Thank you!! I want to get this unit! My list is made and ready to shop!!
Wonderful!
My son is 2 years old and I’m already so excited to use these 😂😂 kind of wish I didn’t have to wait so many years before diving into this curriculum
I'm so glad you're excited to use it! It's such a great program!
I like the way you set up the unit in your binder.😊
Thank you! I'm super excited to start using it in the fall!
Haha, “the teacher part of me loves to laminate”. I hear you! Wonderful wonderful look through, thank you! I plan on doing this with my 3 & 5 yo this summer along side of a butterfly garden & ant farm.
Thanks so much for such a thorough explanation of this curriculum. I’ve been very curious about it, since it’s gained a lot of popularity. The Good and the Beautiful is holding a conference in my area and I just might go. I’m just nervous to make a switch. I feel like I’m always trying new things, instead sticking with what works. I’m with you, though. Science isn’t my favorite.
I would love to go to their conference, you should definitely go! I feel the same way about switching. lol I swear, after I've made a decision about a curriculum, I shouldn't be allowed on RUclips!
A Place to Nest For sure. Unless, it’s one of your videos!
These are the exact 2 I ordered for my son’s kindergarten!
You could put the cover in the binder cover.
This looks so amazing!! I'm looking for something to fit for my 4 girls and this looks like it may work. Thanks for sharing!
I can't wait to use it with my soon-to-be 3rd grader! :)
Also have to add I love all your reactions to the bugs haha. "Until then I'll keep squishing them...". Hahaha
haha Some bugs I can tolerate but some, like beetles, I just can't handle! :)
You are not a “wanna be”, you are a teacher.
Before we started the unit I also said anthropod but it’s actually arthropod! We are using it now and it’s been a lot of fun for our kids in combination with a butterfly kit.
I know! Why did I say that? Lol
Looks great! I will have to check the company out. Thanks for sharing.
They seem to be an amazing company and I've heard nothing but good things about them!
A Place to Nest since watching your video I have searched on RUclips and a ton of home schoolers are unboxing them. There were mixed messages about the religious aspect in some comments I read. I am Catholic and I saw some comments from other Christian groups 're the author being from the LDS church, but it says on their site not specific to any religion so I will just have to give it a try myself. I really like the human body unit and the bug one you showed.
This was really helpful! Thank you so much! It makes us want to study ARthropods!!
I know! I don’t like bugs but it looks so interesting!
Hello, thank you for his video it is so helpful. You got me hooked on All about reading and spelling for my 3 girls! My two oldest are one year under yours. Your reviews are gold to me! I’m wondering if you will be using the good and the beautiful for Language Arts and dropping All about reading. I’m on the fence because i just love AAR but love the Christian aspect and inclusiveness of TGATB. Your input would be greatly appreciated.
I would love to see the Solar System Unit closely. I'm considering using it for my boys, but I would love to know if it would fit them.
Ok, I'll try to show that more closely sometime soon!
Thank you so much for this walk through!!!! How heavy is the religious accepts incorporated into the lessons ?!
I wouldn't say it's heavily religious but it definitely mentions God and relevant Bible verses in each lesson.
How long does each unit study take you to finish? How many days per week do you do science?
It really depends on how many days you do it, per week but typically it would take us a few weeks to get through a unit.
Good thing you didn't take it to get it spiral bound. I took mine and the machine ate some of the pages and they said it was because of the type of paper.
I'm considering TGATB science units for next year. What did you think of them? We really want a hands on science curriculum with lots of activities/ experiments. Do these units have many of those activities?
I guess that depends on how much reading you want your kids to do independently. We stopped using it because, while they're fun, I wanted my daughter to do a lot more reading with a more traditional approach. That being said, there are some hands-on activities but not very many experiments. At least not with the levels I used.
Just a suggestion for next time. Buy the PDF. Send it to the homeschool printing company. They can print in color on nice paper and bind with a cover. Then its all done in one shot. They have cheap B&W copies also.
Charging Our Faith that’s what we did with intro to energy and creative writing!
Charging Our Faith how much did it cost to send it to them, print & bind, & ship back?
Curious how you ended up liking the good and the beautiful science? Do you feel it truly works for k-6 and possibly even upper middle school students?
We really enjoyed it but we did decide to try something else, for now. We can still add TGATB science units in here and there but I wanted my daughter to have a science curriculum that requires much more reading on her part rather than me reading every lesson to her. There are definitely benefits to both types of curricula and you have to find what works best for you and what will be engaging and challenging enough for your kids. I hope that helps. :)
So helpful! Thank you!!
You're welcome. I'm so glad you enjoyed it. Thanks so much for watching!
This is an awesome in depth review! Thank you soooo much! What a beautiful curriculum. I want to try it for my son but since it's a religious one it makes me nervous. I appreciate that it doesn't teach evolution and sticks to Bible things, but does it have any doctrine? I try to stay with the Bible only for doctrine so just wondering before I look into it more! Thank you!
My Many Ramblings we use Language Arts, Typing, human anatomy science unit there is no doctrine. It just encourages good living and strong character qualities. WE ❤️it!
Cynara Linton awesome, thank you so much!!
Thank you so much for sharing! I just heard about TGTB last week and want to try this Science Unit in the Fall. I'm also thinking about trying the Language Arts & Literature curriculum. 😊Is there a recommendation for how many days per week to work on the Science Units?
Yes, they are spreading in popularity pretty quickly! How many times per week you do science is up to you and your schedule. Of course, being that there are not a huge amount of lessons in each unit study, I would probably pace it at 2-3 times per week, depending on how involved the lessons are and how much time you have to spend on it. I hope that helps!
A Place to Nest Thank you!
Thank you! 'Cause I thought I was the only one who thought looking at those bugs made my skin crawl, my 3 year old loves looking at nature videos and I try not to show her how grossed out I am when they show the bugs etc
Certain bugs don't bother me but I CAN'T STAND beetles! Yuckk! You definitely aren't alone! lol
Thank you for your wonderful videos! I have learned so much from a lot of your topics. I have been wanting to ask you a question that I keep coming back to and this particular video reminded me of that question. How do you print out curriculum from TPT and other sites such as this one that require over 100 pages? Do you go to an office supply store or do you just pay the ink and paper prices at home? The last time I went to Office Max for a little over 100 pages, it was going to cost almost $180.00. I backed down because it wasn't even for a full subject curriculum. Is there a secret to printing large online downloads? Thank you so very much!
I'm so glad my videos have been helpful! :) That makes me so happy to hear that!
For printing, I just do it at home. It does take a lot of ink but I feel it's cheaper than having them printed and I work hard to get good deals on ink by recycling ink, price matching and using coupons.
Hi. Is this curriculum based around the Mormon teachings? Also, is there a lot of reading involved? It didn't look as though you had many printed out sheets for your daughter, so I was wondering if it was more reading like sonlight?
No, it's not slanted towards Mormon teachings. I'm a Christian (Baptist) and the verses and religious references aren't slanted towards the Mormon faith, they are non-denominational. There weren't many printed sheets at all in the unit because most of the work that my daughter will complete is done in her student notebook from her notes, charts and drawings. I hope that helps!
Great video ..thank u
I’m considering using this science curriculum for our homeschool. Does it have tests or quizzes that come with it?
No, it doesn't have any tests or quizzes from what I've seen but we are just starting the program today.
I’m confused on something: you can buy the curriculum from her spiraled or you spiral your own? And is there a discrepancy with spiraling something but needing to cut out stuff? Can we make more than one copy if we buy only the pdf?
You can buy the curriculum printed from their website but it doesn't come bound at all. You would either want to get it spiral bound or put it in a binder. There are also things that need to be cut out and copied for the students so it's nice that it comes unbound so you can do that more easily. Yes, you can make more than one copy. I hope that helps!
Did you enjoy this unit study?
Yes, we had lots of fun with it!
OMG, What do you do with the ants, after!?
I guess we will let them go? I hadn't really thought about that. lol
A Place to Nest 😅
Sounds awesome, but it is pronounced ARE-throw-pods.
I know. I felt like an idiot after realizing I read it incorrectly. Lol
@@aplacetonest well now you have some th to laugh about! Don’t worry about it! Laugh it off!
