For me: Highland - Glencadam Lowland - 1770 Glasgow Speyside - Glentauchers Campbeltown - Glen Scotia, screw anything that starts at US$100 for a 10 year old "Islands" - Arran Islay - Kilchoman without even blinking
Some very good choices there (I kept finding myself nodding in agreement!). I think I've commented with a list at least once when this challenge has appeared before, but it is so tempting to keep coming up with more and more 'honourable mentions' that I think I'll just leave it to the 'experts'...
Great video Matt. Lowlands is tough for me to pick. I’ve tried a variety, but have only a few bottles in my collection to compare. Perhaps a nod to Kingsbarns Doocot which is available & affordable here. Ledaig Sinclair Series is my “Islands” nomination. Honourable mention to Lagg Corriecravie which has a fantastic nose. So many good Islay options. I’ve very recently done a 180 on my Laphroaig stance. This thanks to a Thompson Bros bottling and the latest 2024 Cardeas, which is terrific. Benromach for sure, regional profiles be damned. Glen Scotia Festival releases are must buys for me. Longrow Reds would likely top my list if they were more available & affordable ( which they aren’t). There are no bad choices from Campbeltown though. Cheers.
Good choices, very difficult challenge. Quintessential is very different to favourite or available for me. For me Highland quintessential would be Ardnamurchan AD, best would be Brora 43 Age of Peat. Speyside would be GlenAllachie 15, favourite Linkwood 37. Islands has to be Talisker 10, favourite is Talisker 35 (1977). Islay has to be Lagavulin 16 but my favourite is actually my favourite whisky of all time Bruichladdich A Final Act of Creation. Campbeltown quintessential is Kilkerran 12 , favourite is Springbank 25 (2022). Lowlands is probably Glenkinchie, maybe the 16. My favourite was a distillery exclusive Auchentoshan virgin oak.
Hey Matt, Great video and excellent take on the challenge. Great selections all around. Was shocked you didn’t have Octomore in your honourable mentions! Thanks for the nomination too! In great company with your other nominations. Cheers and I’ll get to work on my video.
haha when you pulled out the clynelish i thougt, hmmm id pick old pulteney, as it represents everything that youd associate with highlands, although it sometimes feels too overpowering for newcomers, because its a more sour, little bitter malt. (what i very much enjoy), and speyside: mortlach, but only the IB^^. great list :)
Campbeltown: Springbank 10 Island: Arran Quarter Cask Lowland: Daftmill 10 (various) Speyside: Craigellachie 13 Highland: Loch Lomond 14 or really any of their Single Cask Expressions Islay: Port Charlotte 10 but I would vote Kilchoman Machir Bay CS and Laphroaig 10 year CS a really close 2nd or even tied for 1st.....and literally almost any IB of Caol Ila is probably worth every penny.
Matt great picks! I haven't tried the Tamdhu 15 before and would you believe it the Old Pulteney 18 either! I loved the old 17 so I have to try and taste the 18 as well. Your honorable mentions are bang on as well! Ps. Dude I love that no one has a pristine Springbank 10 and all the ones I've seen have ripped and faded labels looking sus af! 😂😂😂
Unrelated question, how do you feel about the Nucks going into the coming season? That hat looks good. // a Swedish Panthers fan! (not a bandwagon, they sucked when I started watching them)
Terrific choices Matt! Peat head here! Only peat!! lol!!😂
Nice vid, Matt. I've yet to come across a bottle of Springbank in the wild on a BC shelf.
Love the Tim Horton's reference to a whisky... can't get any more Canadian then that lol
Great choices. I would likely go: Benromach 100 proof, Lochlea CS batch 2, Deanston 2008 Oloroso, Lagg, Ardbeg Uigeadail
For me:
Highland - Glencadam
Lowland - 1770 Glasgow
Speyside - Glentauchers
Campbeltown - Glen Scotia, screw anything that starts at US$100 for a 10 year old
"Islands" - Arran
Islay - Kilchoman without even blinking
I almost put Glentauchers but I don't really want it to become too popular.......;)
Hello Matt. I am enjoying your channel. Thank you for sharing.

What a great video.
Great job on this, Matt. We have 1 direct overlap (I imposed some criteria that affected my choices), and these are all great picks. Cheers!
Challenge accepted… 😇
Cheers 🥃
Can’t wait to see your video John!
Terrific choices. These days I am all about moderation and Islay peated scotch when I do imbibe! Awesome video Matt!

Highland - Ardnamurchan Madeira cask or Paul Lanois
Campbeltown - Kilkerran 16yo
Islay - Kilchoman 100% islay 13th Ed
Islands - Arran 17yo
Speyside - Glenallachie 15yo
Lowland - Daftmill

I whole heartedly agree with your picks my friend. 👍
