    That is interesting! I have only two people I prep for: me (ready to eat worms and hardtack washed down with a few lifestraw slurps from a mud puddle) and my wife (who walks in our pantry room every day, looks at 6 months of wall to wall food, and declares, "There's nothing to eat!") 🤦‍♂️

    I have this system and LOVE LOVE LOVE it. I can finally keep accurate track of all my preps (food and non-food items) I deleted my excel sheet because now I can tally what I have based on my family's needs. I truly thought I had everything we needed for a year. Boy was I wrong! With this, I can see exactly what I need to purchase every time I'm at the store. Every prepper should have this system and keep up with it regularly. Mike is especially helpful when I have questions, too. The man is a genius! Get it now!! 😁

    Being a Nerd myself, I am attracted to this inventory system. However, it seems like it suffers from the same problem as my current inventory system. It takes personal discipline to deduct items from the inventory when used. If you have multiple family members that becomes more difficult. I may use it to track more of my long term food and prepper supplies that aren't used on a regular basis. Are you using this system now?

    • @jkid9942
      @jkid9942 3 года назад +3

      I have the same problem. When I take the time to rotate my new purchases, I count what I have and update my list. This way I’m updating a little at a time and it’s not so overwhelming. I have a “holding area” for when I can’t take time to rotate, but it doesn’t go on my list til it’s in the “real” storage area.

    This is interesting and probably a nice thing for tech savvy people. I'm intimidated by tech & dislike stress so have been happy using a 50 cent composition BOOK + PEN + PENCIL system: Each food group (dairy for example) gets 1 or 2 pages allocated for it and the types of dairy, the container size, and their location are entered in pen (dry milk, #10 can, under spare bed for example) while the number of each item at that location is entered in pencil so that it can be easily changed as items are added to storage or removed and placed in the working pantry. When items come up on sale, I just refer to the book to check whether I need to "top off" that item to maintain the desired calorie count and days of storage. Yup, call me old fashioned, but I spent way too much time and felt my blood boiling just trying to figure out how to make a call on a cell phone!

    If you're on the fence and not sure whether to get this or not, take my word for it - do it. Mike (who runs the ultimate prep system) is a great guy and you can get directly in contact with him should you ever need. The logistical problems of putting things back has always caused me anxiety and discouraged me from doing it to begin with. But I've used the UPS since last summer and I'm in love.

    • @PrepperNerd
      @PrepperNerd 3 года назад +4

      That’s not paranoid, it’s a great question. I have a whole video on privacy and security but one key point is that the platform I built this on is used by companies for storing the most sensitive type of information, protected health information (PHI). That potentially exposes those companies to massive lawsuits for 8+ figures if that data got into the wrong hands. They would only use this platform (Smartsheet) after thorough assessment of the privacy and security policies, technologies and procedures. Hope this helps.

    We're prepping for over twenty here. The logistics for that many folks has been mind numbing. For many years, I kept logs and knew exactly what I had (relevant to calories). We have three buildings, a cellar and a buried cistern, each dedicated to different aspects of preparedness. Keeping our stocks in specific areas and in plain view helps me keep my head around it. Yearly inventories have helped to make certain that everything is viable and in good condition.
    Lately though, I have been prepping so hard and fast that I don't have time for bookkeeping. I'd like to have a system like the one you shared but at this point I'm not certain that its worth the effort.
    Its time to prep like there is no tomorrow, because some day soon, there isn't gonna be. It really doesn't matter to me now, what I have or whether I have enough. It is what it is and all I can do is stack like a mad man.

  • @litseenxoots

    I suspect that the amount of time spent maintaining this system will mean it will go by the wayside fairly quickly. The time cost of maintenance seams to greatly outweigh the benefit actually obtained by using the system. Standard inventory rotation is needed regardless which serves most purposes. Unless one has a warehouse, inventory systems such as this seem overkill likely destined for shelf ware. A nice but ultimately impractical time waster for the home.

      That’s definitely something people don’t take into account enough. So in that sense if you think you have a year, you might have 4-6 months of food. The nice thing about the system is you can specify the number of calories that you personally want to plan for each person in your family.

    This may be a good idea but very time consuming. It may work best for a shopping list to get a desired amount of preps whether it be food, tools or equipment and supplies for maintenance and gardening. After reaching your desired goal additional preps one could just replace what they consumed the next shopping day. You know the saying “buy what eat, eat what you buy”. Have a way to rotate the food.
    If supplies, plywood, nails, roofing, tarps, etc are used replace those items iv available.
    Maintaining a list may work for some folks but after reading some of the above remarks, although a good idea, the time to keep up the list is not for everyone.

    This program has too much crap on it. I need a simple fill in the blank boxes with a minimum maximum and current inventory stock, location and end date. I cannot use open office or spreadsheets as I am not literate in that stuff and too damned old to learn, we used to be able to find programs like this a dime a dozen. Now everyone want them to be online and have an annual fee and use the cloud. I don't want to share my inventory with the cloud and I don't want to keep paying for a system that does not need to be updated.
