Thanks for sharing, I'm sure the dealers would charge like $250 or more to do this easy coolant drain and refill.
They wanted to charge me 189.99+tax
@@LL-lh7om yea that's crazy. You could save that money in your savings.
Yes, they charged me $238
@@johngraham2470 sorry to hear that.
@@MostafaMansoori Its fine, another time when I went to change oil and the guy told me my brake fluid is low, topped a bit and charged $100 for oil change and $100 for topping the brake fluid. Literally looted me. I think I should start doing my self.
Super helpful, Thanks! Also the cat showing up was fun
I had a full gallon of opened Type 2 coolant in my garage that looked used (since it was dark), and this video helped me diagnose that it was in fact new coolant. You saved me $25, awesome video hahaha
Cool lol. The coolant can look dark in the container. It's a deep blue color.
Thanks. It was really helpful how you zoomed in to help locate the drain.
Excellent video simple and direct, thank you
I love your videos. It helps me a lot to take care of my civic! Thank you!!😊
That's a great, helpful video. Thanks for posting!
Spoken like a true champ
Thank you just fixed my moms car we love you in Oakland drinks on me if you ever in Cali
Great video, dam that's a clean ass engine too
Don't forget to empty the reservoir people. Its below the battery. If removing the battery seems hard to get to it then use a siphon hose. And use OEM antifreeze!
Use this method to suck out coolant from the reservoir: ruclips.net/video/GRZjZYyQ0fA/видео.html
So If I'm performing a flush, would I also have to run distilled water in the reservoir and then pump it out to get it clean? Or does it drain with the radiator plug? I know little about cars, trying to educate myself to take care of my car. Any help would be appreciated!
Your video is very helpful, I love it! Thank you!
That was a very good video. Thanks!
Your welcome
we went to a valvoline and then topped off the coolant, a day later (not even a full day) there was a coolant leak and engine overheating. I have no idea what they did, its not my car so im not familiar with it. They didnt top it off at the cap, they said they fill it in near the actual reservoir. It seemed to be leaking from the passengers side near the radiator actually.
I have no clue if they messed up a hose or something. Infact when I checked the receipt it doesn't even say they touched the coolant, makes me wonder if they realized they messed something up and didnt want proof of it. There was no leak before.
Take it back they touched it first
@@MrRangerZr1 I did but the leak was coming out somewhere hard to identify. We had some mechanic look at it, he said it was the water pump. I cant wrap my head around the timing though, literally it wasn't leaking before. I have no clue lol
Hi.
I'm in the UK and have a Honda Civic Sport 2015 model, mk 9.
Very useful video but I wanted to ask: how do you read the coolant level on the reservoir?? I cannot see any fluid level at all. I've tried with a torch at night and can see a green tinge from the coolant color but I'm unable to read a level.
I've only had the car a couple months and want to stay on top of things. Any advice greatly appreciated.
It's hard to read the level on this car. Use a flash light and look carefully.
@@MrRangerZr1 You're right! With a flashlight at the correct angle/position, you can see it. What were Honda thinking when designing this?? Thanks alot.
exacyly, a pain to see@@adamm.riccio3124
Hey brother ! I have a Honda Civic 2014 lx ..
I want to do this service thanks for the video .
But I want to know how much fluid you have to add in there and the small white box..also how long do I have to keep engine run on ?
loc nguyen you need 2 gallons for this job. Bleeding takes about 15-20 mins or until the radiator fans cycle 2-3 times.
hi i wanted to know when is the best time to empty the reservoir? you left a note saying to empty it. when you drain the coolant it doesn't empty it completely? thanks for the video
No it doesn't empty the reservoir 100%. It's a PITA to remove the reservoir. Suck out the coolant from the reservoir with this method: ruclips.net/video/GRZjZYyQ0fA/видео.html
Great video. Thanks.
*Loved the Cat scene. Was that the litter box??
James Bishop lol no some random container I found
awesome video straight to the point
Love your voice man! Thanks
Hello. I took my car to mechanic because I was loosing coolant and that was causing overheating on engine. They did the pressure test and told me that I was leaking coolant from the bottom of the radiator seam. The mechanic said it’s gonna cost about 500$ . Do you have an idea what could be done to fix this problem .
Just replace the radiator.
if coolant is leaking out of the radiator with the cap off and engine on, does that mean i poured to much into the reservoir? should i keep running the engine til it stops leaking out of the top of the radiator
as long as you don't see any bubbles you're good. check out my other coolant bleeding video using a coolant funnel, makes life easier.
Great Help! Thanks
Why did you use the cats litter box, now I know why he's looking
I didn't, it looks like a litter box. Maybe that's why he was looking at it lol
How much coolant comes out and how much do you pour back in?
I have a 2014 civic LX with 118k miles. SHould I change the water pump.
No need to
My 2009 Honda Civic over heats when I put cool air. Usually dosnt go past by the half mark when I leave the hot air on. But recently it’s been passing and almost reach over heating bar. I had my car smoke up couple times. I notice there’s a small hole under my car where coolant leaks out. What seems to be my problem? I changed my coolant couple month ago
HoodieBills well you have a leak. Fix that first.
So I'm not that great with cars, and I need to check my coolant level in my 2014 honda civic. The light comes on and after a bit of driving it turns off again. It's cold right now, so maybe that has something to do with it, and I also just got this car. It's got less than 50k miles on it. I don't want to have to buy coolant right now if I don't have to, and I just want to check the levels. Is there any way I can access the tank to see the levels?
What light comes on and off? To check the reservoir level, shine a light on the bottle and you can see the level.
@@MrRangerZr1 Thank you for your reply! It's the coolant light, the blue one with a C. I'll try a flashlight later today.
@@MrRangerZr1 the symbol is at 3:01 on the left.
@@shanxious the blue light comes on when the engine sits for awhile. It is telling you its cold. That light means nothing
@@bricenwillingham6807, correct, the light should be on when the vehicle hasn't been started for awhile and depending on where you live it should turn off around 2-3 minutes of driving!
Do you retighten the coolant flush valve?
yes
I have Honda civic 2015 it has 64000 miles should i follow this or wait for 100k miles
I live in chicago preparing for winter ❄️
Ahsan khan change the thermostat and coolant around 100k miles
Thanks
Stupid question but do u close the drain valve when filling up the radiator? I didnt see u do that on the video
Yes you close it
You know where the windshield wiper deposit is, I have a honda civic 2015 grace !! I would love it if you answered me ' !!
The reservoir? It's under the hood, on the passenger side. Has a blue cap with a windshield wiper icon.
Do you know how much coolant is in the overflow. Im trying to avoid taking the battery out lol
It's very hard. Shine a light through the bottle or inside the bottle, shake the reservoir so you can see where the level is at. Even with the battery removed, it's hard to tell lol
@@MrRangerZr1 holy shit man thanks that is a dumb design from them
I have a 2014 CIVIC LX. No way can I get my arm in there to loosen the drain plug. Is there more room in the 2013 model engine bay to do this from the top?
Try from the bottom
So I got a P0128 error code on my car and my fans inside my car sometimes turns on and sometimes it doesn't does this mean I gotta check my coolant and change my thermostat?
start with that
Thanks hehe
I'm color blind, is this blue or green fluid
Blue
@@MrRangerZr1 thanks 😊
I have a 2012 Honda Civic. That white cap that you just unlocked what’s that for???
that's the coolant reservoir
@@MrRangerZr1 are you supposed to add coolant there?
@@Live19-e1p yes
How many bottle of coolant Honda do you used ?
About 1 jug
When do you recommend doing a coolant flush?
Around 100k miles or when you change the thermostat
So the guy on top of u uses a siphon hose do I have to use 1 to on my 2014 honda civic please lmk man
This was a 2014 so just do whatever I did.
Thank you so much for the video. I would like to know when you change your fluid? After miles.
100k miles or when you change the thermostat, which is around 100k miles
Would you need to buy a radiator flush+ cleaner like an additive?
nope don't use those. They do harm than good.
What do I do with the toxic sludge after I drain it
dispose any car fluids at a recycling facility
Just to be clear, this coolant/antifreeze is for the AC correct?
No for the engine
i did this and now my heater isn’t producing warm air. why is this.
You need to do this: ruclips.net/video/Jjr9dxlUjpM/видео.html
I have a 2014 civic with 130k overheating rn during the california summer. Only in "drive thru" settings though. Never on the highway. H light comes on while at idle in drive thu and turns off right away after i drive off into the roads, what do you reccomend diagnostics i run through first? Test thermostat / rad hose temps? Fan? Coolant level? How bout water pump?
Tomorrow is my first day of university and im driving pretty far, so pretty worried. Thanks so much
Check if both of the radiator fans are cycling on and off
So it was the thermostat. Got replaced it and flushed the coolant. All has been good in this 100° heat too!
@@MrRangerZr1 yeah, i finally heard them both cycling on and off. Also burped the top radiator hose for air bubbles, for about 15-20 mins or so. Has been running perfect since then. Its 104 degrees and indrive 2.5 hrs per day! So im glad in saw your video! I really know nothing about cars but somehow i didbit correctly lol
how many bottles did u use
1
Its says 50/50 but which color
blue
Hi buddy how do u knw the reservoir was on min or max? I cant even tell on mine 😐
Using a flash light and cursing the idiots who designed the thing lol
Car is like ahhhhhh peeing
Not gonna lie this sometimes does make me use the restroom lol
After I did this and bled all the air out my mpg just started to go up and down what could it be?
And I changed the thermostat with an oem one
MPGs going up and down? What do you mean
It’s been 10 minutes with the car runnning and the air is still cold.? Why? The radiator is full.
Will take a while. Make sure the heat is on.
@@MrRangerZr1 How much would be halfway between min/max on the reservoir?
@@seagull7414 since the hood is open and the radiator cap is off, it will take a while. About 15-20 mins at times
So my 2013 civic si looks pretty much the same.....I can't see any fluid in the reservoir , even with a flashlight it's hard to see where it's at relative to the min or max line. But when I open the metal cap to the other thing it appears full. So since the radiator looks full do I just need to try my best to verify if I need to add any to the reservoir based on the min or max level? I'm not looking to change my
Fluid I'm just looking to see if It needs to be topped off. Topping it off would mean filling
Up the reservoir right? Not the other thing with the metal cap (assuming that's called the radiator lol) right unless it was low also?
The radiator should be topped off. The reservoir level between the min and max on the bottle. It's hard to see the level, shine a light in the reservoir and shake it around to see the level.
Well like I say when I pop my radiator cap off there is liquid up to the cap so if that's the case then I only need to top off the reseviour if it needs it correct?
@@FL5_OGryan405 did you ever figure it out I’m trying to figure out the same thing
Nope I didn't. I just left it alone. Couldn't get an answer. I only have 67k on my 2013 so I'll just wait till Atleast 75k and Then take it to have a complete flush and refill. But I still need to figure that answer though for the time, I don't want to burn up my motor being low on coolant. I imagine since it's full when I open the metal cap on the radiator then that means it's full. Now whether or not I need to add some to the clear plastic reservoir tank that is what I really need to know. I'm pretty sure that's going to be the case, just make sure it's filled between the min and max level on the reservoir and then make sure it's up to the top in the radiator as well and you should be good.
@@FL5_OGryan405 same problem for me
It’s so hard to see how much fluid is in the reservoir.
Yes engineering fail from Honda
Does it matter how much is in the reservoir?? I'm not big on cars
Best time to check is when it's dark or at night time. Use a flashlight so u can see the shadow level of the reservoir coolant.
How do you even check coolant level if you can't even see it. This car is horrible.
It's terrible. I have to shake it with a bright light flashing down in the bottle to see the level. Good thing main radiator cap is accessible.
Why do you drain it? Why not just add more?
Purpose it to remove the old coolant and fill in with fresh new coolant
Do you have to drain the coolant every time you add some?
No
Can i use that type blue anti on my integra 99? Is it save to use
Yes.
How much coolient is needed? Will 1 gal be enough?
Get 2 gallons
Is the car on?
No
whats the purpose of turning the heater on?
So coolant flows through the heatercore and also gives you indication that the heater blows hot air.
I accidentally filled it all the way to the top, is that ok? Or is it bad...?
the white jug yes bad the radiator no
How do I remove some? I also, can’t see where the Max fill line is, what do I do?

Is this process the same for Si models?
Yes very indentical.
So I let the car run with the coolant open?
until it warms up yes or use this funnel: ruclips.net/video/Jjr9dxlUjpM/видео.html
Can you successfully do this if your heat/ac doesn't work?
Assuming your A/C doesn't work? Yes, just don't turn on the air conditioning.
@@MrRangerZr1 okay, I need to flush and purge my system, my reservoir is full to the brim so I want to drain it and fill it to the fill line and refill the radiator so I know that I have the right amount of coolant because right now I think there is too much. I'm going to flush my system but it will be okay to do without turning on the heat or turning on the air at all
You should be fine. If you have a scantool watch the water temp.
@@MrRangerZr1 thanks! unfortunately my civic doesn't show a temp Guage just a dash light for when it overheats, it would randomly over heat so I'd add coolant to the radiator, because I'd see it leak.. turns out I needed a new radiator cap and so all that coolant I was adding was ending up in the reservoir.. hoping that the new cap solved everything and now I just need to burp it and have the right amount of coolant. But I'm worried that there's no coolant actually in the engine, and hoping it doesn't mean a hole in the head gasket is causing pressure to push the coolant into the reservoir.. any ideas?
Overheating could just be air pockets , and I know too much coolant is bad bc there's no room to expand
Where do you dispose old coolant?
Local autoparts store or recycling center
Check county. In Contra Costa County (San Francisco Bay Area), residents can dispose of coolant as Household Hazardous Waste for free.
How many gallons did you use?
About 1
When should one replace the coolant in the civic? Most say five years but... isn't that too long?
Seram Lee 100k miles
100k miles or at the water pump service, if you ever have to change the water pump.
Hey have you done a valve adjustment yet on your civic?
No not yet, I only have 40k miles on the car.
Does this empty out the coolant that is in that little white tank?
No. Its kind of a pain to remove that bottle.
MrRangerZr1 Thanks for the fast reply, Ill probably use a thin hose and a turkey baster to empty it out.
Yes or a syringe with aquarium tubing should do the trick.
MrRangerZr1 Good idea, the turkey baster probably wont have enough strength the suck the coolant out.
All you have to do is remove the battery no big deal
How long should I let it run for after filling it up ?
Edi Pedroza until it reaches operating temp or the fans start to cycle
What mileage do you change this at?
Around 100k miles
@@MrRangerZr1 how bout 97K?
