    I didn't know you lived in Lexington, I live close by in Winchester. I recently found out I have a condition called Retinoschisis and it is causing me to lose my peripherally vision and is slowly going towards my central vision. I have been watching a lot of your videos lately and it has been very helpful and informative. I have surgery in a couple weeks in Lexington to try and help it. When I put the phone in my front pants pocket it seems to be off up to 150 feet and the direction of turn is wrong. Is there a hack if this is true? I do not want to carry the phone awkwardly.

    I use a power chair. I would need to find ramps as well? It would be nice if the app could act like a cane would find things like drop-offs such as curbs and to help you find exactly where a curb cut is located etc? I am legally blind and do have some eye vision but because I use a power chair with a tray on it I can't use a cane and it would be nice to use something that would act as a cane but would be like having a Mowat Sensor but all on your phone? I personally use directions like North South East West. It would be nice if this app could use things like, go north at your 10 o'clock position walk 30 feet then turn west? The app should count down the feet as you get to the corner and as you are going down the pathway if there is an item in the way it would use the camera to find it and let you know what it is and how much room there is on either side of it? It as well would be nice to have the ability to connect services and other apps within the same app such as Aria and Be my Eyes and use those features without getting out of one app to use another app?

    • @theblindlife
      @theblindlife  3 года назад +2

      It definitely is heavier than a standard cane, but it doesn’t seem that bad to me at all. In fact, the cane and rolling ball itself work so well that the cane just seems to glide along. So I don’t notice the extra weight at all. I think the extra weight would be something you would get used to pretty quickly.

    Hello Sam! My uncle has recently lost his eyesight and I want to get him this cane. His height is 180 cm; could you please recommend me a suitable cane height for him? The WeWalk cane can be either 129 cm, 137 cm, or 149 cm. He has never used a cane so I have no idea which height could be comfortable. And would you recommend this cane or the No-Jab cane that you're using? Thank you so much for your efforts on the channel! :)

    • @theblindlife
      @theblindlife  2 года назад

      The WeWALK cane may be more than your uncle needs at first. Will he be using all of the technology built in? You may want to try a normal cane first until he gets familiar with it. As far as the cane height, a good rule of thumb is to measure from the arm pit or the collar bone.

    Hi Sam,
    Nice video. Just a few quick questions... Firstly, were you using the smart cane you mentioned to work along with the app, or could you use a regular cane and be just as fine using the app as a standalone product?
    Secondly, how does the app do in terms of if you're traveling in the car with a family member or friend, and you want to see where you're at or where you're going, similar to Google maps turn by turn directions?
    And lastly, when you were doing the outside demonstration, what sort of equipment do you use as far as recording software and microphone?
    Thanks.

    • @theblindlife
      @theblindlife  3 года назад +1

      Of course, the app is designed to work The bestwith the smart cane however, it works great as a standalone app as well. I actually haven’t tried it while riding in a car so can’t comment on that. The video of me walking around was just done with my main camera on a tripod. I used a Sarah Monic lapel microphone. The video of the phone screen was just done with the normal built-in screen recorder on my iPhone. It records the screen and any audio coming from the phone.

    • @theblindlife
      @theblindlife  3 года назад

      No, I was all by myself. I would set up the camera on a tripod pointing at a section of sidewalk. Then I would walk down the sidewalk, turn around and walk back towards the camera while it was recording. Then I would edit out the parts I didn’t want. There was one shot where I held the tripod out in front of me with the camera pointed back at me. Then I recorded while I was walking. The shot might look like someone else was recording me but they weren’t, it was just me.

I looked up the Wii walk cane and it is $600, they can update the app all they want but for blind and visually impaired people living on a fixed income we will never be able to afford this product, why don’t you talk to these people about making a less expensive really economic cane for me? Why do all these products for the visually impaired and blind cost so much, I got a braille note touch that took me back for years at, $6000, there is no local program that will help me, they say I’m just blind and I don’t need the assistance
