This is a very great review of the device. As a blind person with no vision at all, I’m really questioning my decision if I want to purchase the Orcam in future since it is a very expensive device. Now I am aware that it won’t help me to be completely independent, but this device could be somewhat useful to help me accomplish some tasks such as reading recipes, reading texts without me having to open my computer to scan document and especially, it can help me around by identifying products in my kitchen. Now I am not saying that visually impaired individuals are not independent, there are other efficient solutions that we use to perform our daily tasks, but The evolution of technology and this device could be very helpful. :)
I had high hopes for it. I’d dearly love to be able to hold a book while it’s being read. But the cost of this device is astronomical for me. On sale right now for 3600.00. No way I could ever afford that.
I bought one of these and I’m very happy with it. I’m still getting used to everything it can do but I have freedom that I never had before. It’s expensive but worth it for me. I’m totally blind and live by myself so it’s very very helpful.
I applied for one of these through out NDIS program here in Australia. Waiting, waiting, waiting for the good news! If it’s approved it means life can be soooooo much better! I miss reading books and text on paper. When I had my demo we even tried it with hand written text and it gave it a really good shot at reading it! I was very impressed.
Hi Penny, I noticed you have applied for this Device through your NDIS fund I'm interested to know if it has been approved ?. I know someone who can benefit from it too. Many thanks, J.
I love your videos, I wish there was more programs to make some of those devices more available for patients or even getting them approved with their medical insurance.

Hey Sam! I saw one of our fellow VIPs Ask about this product in a Facebook group. If no one had done a review they asked if I would. Thank God, you did! Technology reviews aren’t really my thing LOL. Will share this with the group! Thank you so much Sam
Hi Sam, I have the MyEye2. I really love my device as it has given me independence. I no longer have to wait for my family to read documents that are not in braille to me which means I can deal with my own afairs. This is why I feel this technology is very important and that more needs to be done to make it more affordable. I would love to upgrade to the new version, but I probably won't be able to afford it. given the fact that you have done several reviews of the product, I am surprised that Orcam haven't given you your own device or that they haven't tried to recruit you as an Orcam trainer which I think you would be good at.
Thanks very much for sharing your experience. I just spoke to an OrCam rep, who said that the device might not work outdoors, yet you were able to recognize and greet your neighbor.
OrCam MyEye is able to work outdoors, even in low light environments (with the built-in LED light). If you would like to clarify anything, please contact our customer support at 18007133741.
That's great. I was initially blown away thinking the little device attached to the glasses did all the work independently but it is still impressive and looks very useful for blind people. The facial recognition might be useful for people who can see but have face blindness. Depending on a smart phone makes the video/image processing far easier and should make the device less expensive.
You may have gotten the wrong idea from the video. The smart phone app is just a companion app. You don’t actually need it for the device, it’s just extra. The little device on the glasses does everything by itself.
@@theblindlife Nice! Is there a place to get more details on the internal hardware of it? It is so compact and must use so little electricity that I imagine it using similar components to high end smartwatches.
Love this amazing piece of technology. There’s only one complaint from me and it is that I wish it was more normal when it comes to looks. Growing up, I was always bullied for needing special equipment for my vision. And my best friend’s younger sister is also blind but she’s in middle school on her way to high school soon. I wouldn’t want her going through the same thing I had to go through just because we need help more than others. If they were to make it smaller and able to be built into the actual glasses frame, that would be even more better. Maybe if they made it so that you would need to control it from your phone that would be better because it would give them that capability to make it smaller because it has less components inside of that item.

Hello your channel is terrific and I'm so glad I found it. I just forwarded it to my friend who is blind, and will be watching your videos. I would like to make a couple recommendations to help the vision impaired out when they're watching your videos. If you could describe such as I'm standing outside with my glasses looking out XXX my friend will be able to understand better where you're at, but you're still doing an incredible job. Secondly I don't know if you've thought about taking your same video and just making it high contrast for the blind in black and white with only object recognition so when they watch your video they can see more things happening. You would be the first on RUclips to load those type of videos for vision impaired, such as when you say subscribe black and white across the whole screen nothing else flashes up important messages which might help them that we don't need to see. Thank you again for all the hard work, it's a nice channel to find.
I have a question. Can the My Eye Pro be accessible for blind people at a movie theater, bowling alley, or arcade? If so, what type of information can be spoken to you by the device?
I've been curious about OrCam MyEye for quite a while since the first OrCam video of yours I saw, and since your most recent one I've been rewatching your others. One thing that concerns me is that I've seen from other users' videos where the OrCam MyEye Pro actually performs much worse than the Seeing AI app. I know the MyEye Pro has extra features, but how do you feel the features that it and Seeing AI both have compare? I don't have the money to pay for the OrCam MyEye Pro . So I haven't gotten to test this for myself.
My husband has RP Usher Syndrome, a degenerative eye disease with nerve deafness. He depends on lip reading, which is impossible now due to vision loss, so the pitch of voice is very important vs volume. Most talking products don’t give this information out regarding selecting voice or adjustments in bass & treble, could you add that into your information or presentations. It’s a god send for us, I couldn’t tell you how many products we purchased only to be disappointed because he can’t understand what the voice says. This product looks exciting.

“Hi Sam, first of all, I congratulate you on such a great video. I have a question: I’m looking to update my OrCam 2.0 to version 9.21, but I can’t find it on the official website. I’m not sure how to proceed with the update. Could you please tell me how to do it? I would greatly appreciate your help.”
I would love to watch this video because I am visually impaired and very curious how this device could help me read actual books again but that PAIN CAUSING FLASH someone thought was a good idea makes it so I cannot watch it. Had to turn it off 30 seconds in after it started the eye pain and headaches that my photophobia causes. I hope no epileptic watches this and has a grand mal siezure. Let me know if you have a version without the constant flashing and I'll watch it.
All right, I think you’re exaggerating it a little bit. Very fast rapid flashing of lights has been known to cause seizures in a very small number of people. The flash transition that I use in my videos here and there isn’t enough to do any damage like that. I apologize if you’re extra sensitive to it. I have a few at the beginning of this video but don’t do it too often after that. You could always just listen to the video, I do a pretty good job of audio describing everything.
Will it work for playing cards or bridge? One of my parents can't play bridge anymore after 40 years. Definitely hit them hard. Would love if there was an orcam that could help

You don’t have to have glasses for this device, it actually comes with a pair of frames you can use. There’s also a handheld version that is a little cheaper. It’s called the or cam read.
I have enjoyed learning about this Orcam product as well as the one last week. However, they are super expensive. Is there a group or foundation out there that helps VIPs with financial support in purchasing one of these devices?
All of these devices are outrageously expensive but obviously, that’s Not Sam’s fault, his job is to bring us the latest tech and how it can help us and he does a great job. I’m told the reason for the cost is the small profit margins and number of potential consumers. What is needed is legislation information and ways to make these more affordable or have payment plans, rental agreements. As visually disabled/ blind people have an unemployment rate of about %70, these are priced out of the range of people who need it the most. I’m not sure if Sam has done a video about this ( please link below if you have) but it would be a worthy topic.
Financing options may be available for OrCam MyEye depending on where the intended user lives and the specifics of their situation. We also offer payment plans. If you would like to learn more, please share some basics with us and we’ll be happy to provide you with the information we have about your specific case: orcam.co/2Qh5kj7
Hey Bobby, here is a video where I talk about the reason why devices are so expensive and I give some options for finding the money to get them.ruclips.net/video/zNvzVJIQix4/видео.html
Mark, I can’t tell you how refreshing this comment is! Thank you so much! I get so many comments on these videos about devices being too expensive, usually negative comments. It’s really nice to hear someone acknowledge that it’s not my fault and I’m just providing information! Don’t kill the messenger, right? I appreciate Bobby’s comments because he/she acknowledged the fact that the device is expensive but thank me for bringing the information and ask about possible solutions. On that note, yes, I’ve made a video on this topic and even gave options for affording these devices .
One of my friend have 80% blindness so he faces problems. Can anyone pls confirm that Orcam is good product for him ..? Or suggest any other good product which can be like his eyes.
How much data does the companion app use on an iPhone A+? I have 64 GB on mine, and have used about 50 something of them so far. Also, is the app just named Or Cam my eye Pro?
I’m seriously considering these but the price is really high, anybody who has these what are the negatives about the device is there lag time, bugs, does it constantly need to be updated as far as software? Thanks for all the help
I would like to know, how far away will the device pick up print? For example if there is a menu on the screen behind a register that is lit up will see or Kim be able to pick up the text and read it to you?
I didn’t test a menu board at a fast food place, mainly because you can’t really go into those places right now. But, of the signs outside that I tested, the furthest away one was was about 30 feet. It read it with no problems.
For someone with macular degeneration,am finger motion in the right eye,LP in the left ,would the Or Cam Pro ,or Or Cam Read be the best device? Does the Or Cam Pro work on glasses?
Hi Susan. OrCam MyEye Pro mounts on glasses and is more suitable for someone who is blind or visually impaired. OrCam Read is more suited for mild to moderate visual impairment, as it is handheld, and the user would be required to point it at the specific text he or she is attempting to read.
Good afternoon sir Does it support Hindi, English and Tamil languages and what will be its cost if I need it in Bangalore (India). My daughter is visually impaired with low vision. Awaiting for your response.
Not those specifically, but binocular glasses have been around for quite a while. In fact, most of the bioptic glasses that are used for driving are just a type of binocular glasses. They work well for some people and not for others. For me, the field of view is just too small so it doesn’t work
@@theblindlife Yep, I ship them back to Amazon.. I’ve ordered some type of zoom glasses that have not arrived yet. I think the NuEyes would work. The process of learning someone’s face is definitely not something you can do incognito. The subject needs to stand there and slowly turn their face in several different positions while the camera snaps pictures.

I just found your channel and videos today, it's great. How is it reading from a monitor ? Especially Pdfs.
It works really well at reading any print a text, even on a computer or smart phone screen.

OrCam is there an upgrade option? I have the Orcam MyEye 2 and would love to upgrade to the pro. I live in the UK.
Can it only scan one page at a time or multiple pages
I don't think it can do batch scanning, but I'm not entirely sure.
How can I access this and at what cost?
Can you connect to your earbuds, for private listening?
Yes, it has Bluetooth
Can you tell me how I can pay for it
I’m legally blind and could use that big time
Very impressive technology! our AI is like magic.
About 30-40 centimeters for reading a book or computer screen.
How can I access this unit.
Good afternoon sir
Does it support Hindi, English and Tamil languages and what will be its cost if I need it in Bangalore (India). My daughter is visually impaired with low vision.
Awaiting for your response.
You’ll need to contact them directly to get answers to these questions.
Can this tell me which of my 3 dogs is in front of me or will it only tell me that a dog is in front of me?
I came across some glasses on Amazon called binoculars/opera glasses. I think the company is called Senmonus. Any experience with these?
Not those specifically, but binocular glasses have been around for quite a while. In fact, most of the bioptic glasses that are used for driving are just a type of binocular glasses. They work well for some people and not for others. For me, the field of view is just too small so it doesn’t work
@@theblindlife Yep, I ship them back to Amazon.. I’ve ordered some type of zoom glasses that have not arrived yet. I think the NuEyes would work. I’m awaiting an appointment at the Low Vision Center at Duke Eye Center in Durham, NC. Thank you for all you do. I really enjoy your channel. I really enjoyed your discussion of the emotional impact that losing your vision later in life can have. My vision took a nosedive in my mid-40s and I’m still struggling to accept it at 70 as the RP progresses. Your RUclips channel gives me hope
I would love to see your tutorial on how to teach the order came to recognize faces I own my own business and I have to interact with clients every day and with Covid a lot of my clients want to keep a certain amount of social distance which makes recognizing their face is difficult I’d love to know how obvious it is that you’re teaching your or cam someone’s face some of my clients are touchy and may not be too happy if I announce to them that I’m taking their picture once again this video is fabulous and this channel is life-changing thanks so much for reviewing these items and just helping us know that they out there
The process of learning someone’s face is definitely not something you can do incognito. The subject needs to stand there and slowly turn their face in several different positions while the camera snaps pictures.
that will really help me i have rp cool tool i say
