As someone who just recently hopped onto the 5AM train, I’m really glad to see this video from you Alan. I’m a senior in my last year of becoming a Doctor, and I’ve found that moving my workout routines to the early morning have benefitted overall health and temperament greatly. Excuses? Tiredness? Too much effort? All that anxious stuff flew out the window once I committed. Cuz it wasn’t about pursuing ‘gains’, but structuring my life that would be the most beneficial and satisfying long term. Doesn’t matter if I have clinical procedures all day, 8-6/7, I get my workout in first thing, I feel like I can tackle the rest. Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts and experiences Alan, appreciated as always.
I love training early in the morning or late at night, at the edges of the gym's opening times. Less people, less banter, less distractions. I cherish every session I can get to, having to have missed three months of gym training due to the human malware. People need to stop overthinking things and get it done. Also, listen to more Death. Power to you, Alan Thrall. Power to you and your amazing beard.
Alan, it’s very cool to know that you ride your bike to the gym. So few people seem to understand how fun, healthy, and easy it can be to commute by bike. And for anyone going to the gym, it’s a great warm, and gets some cardio out of the way.
Alan, thank you for the best fitness channel on RUclips! I appreciate the practical, real world information and the healthy dose of humor you bring as well! I know you have a lot going on, so I appreciate you taking the time to share with the rest of us!
I trained at 5AM for years and was awesome. Eventually though my training demanded too much out of me that when I got to my desk after training I had nothing left in me for work. Had to switch to afternoons to make sure my work performance stayed high.
Outstanding. Every point you made are the same things I say to every one about my training schedule. It’s good hear people have the same mindset. Your doing good work Alan, thanks.
I like this post. I started working out in the morning at 5 am about three months ago. I love it. Im more focused and consistent. I put my headphones on and I just get it done. This video validated what Im experiencing. Good job untamed guy.
Hell yeah man that’s the real time to train, anytime is better then no time, but when you do for you first your able to serve your day and others better.
I am in the military and we start our morning brief at 0700. I have been going to the gym at 0400 for years now. Since COVID impacted my base's gym hours i haven't been able to work out before work. I have definitely noticed a difference in my workouts, as well as my mood . I cant wait to get back to a normal schedule with my lifting.
Man, I watched so many of your videos during my last deployment but ever since I got back just haven't been on youtube as often. Forgot how awesome your channel is. Good part is, I got a whole bunch of videos to catch up on now. Keep at it and thank you!
I honestly needed to watch this video. This was a great wake up call and put things back into perspective for me as life has been normalizing and I'm back working the 9-5 grind and it's been so easy to make excuses for my training taking a backseat once again. You're the god damn man, Alan. Really appreciate the wise words.
Alan Thrall you are the best man. Great work ethic, great attitude and just all around great person you are..Appreciate all you do my man...Keep it up!
Alan: *shows footage of him training in a deliciously empty gym that he owns with tons of equipment* People losing their gains because of COVID: *Why must you torture us so?*
Well he built it so must you haha I just recently launched my business using my own equipment I've bought and made over the past 3-4 years just get a bar and some plates!!!!
Exactly what I do and why I do it. I’m naturally an early riser and instead of 1) risking procrastination with my session, 2) risking life throwing wrenches in my plans, 3) spending too much time stressing about “if you don’t sleep 9 hours a night you will never get gains and die 10 year early” or “if you train before 3 pm you are 50% weaker” - I hop on my bike and show up in a mostly empty gym before sunrise, get my session in, and feel like I’ve already accomplished honest work when most are just starting to wake up...so yeah, being a member of the morning crew works wonders for me!
So i've noticed there are no mirrors in your gym. I wonder why is that the case, do you want to put emphasis on the fact that it is a powerlifting gym and not a bodybuilding one? I'm legit curious because mirrors have been of help to me especially on my squat and deadlift form.
YES this is what I was gonna be doing next week for the exact same reasons. Procrastination is an issue for me. Perfect timing. Nice one, Mount Thrall.
For me personally i feel like I need to be doing something important after going to the gym first thing in the morning in order for me to do it consistently and enjoy it. I used to wake up at 4am (sometimes 3:30am) to be at the gym at around 5am and get in my training, breakfest, shower etc. before school at 8am. I did this consistently for months and at the time it wasn't even hard. It felt good and became a habit. Now I've graduated high school and I currently don't really have a consistent schedule consisting of work, studying etc. I've found that I have absolutely zero motivation/desire to go to the gym early now and I think it's because once I'm done I can technically just go home and chill/sleep so why even bother... Long story short I feel like you need to fit your gym sessions into a schedule sort of like work that you can't call in sick to whenever you feel like it, in order for it to become a true habit that you just never skip. There needs to be a greater purpose for waking up early and getting it done first thing in the morning and me not feeling any desire to do that atm is also a sign that I've got too much time on my hands and need to get my fingers out my ass...
Yep i kind of feel the same I dont feel much motivation any more im kind of losing it. I used to wake up at 5am and workout before school for months too but i stopped after school ended and that habit ended cause i didnt have school.
It is majestic it’s the military in you man it did the same to me plus it’s nice to get it out of the way in the day. I love that refreshing feeling when you are done with the workout too.
I commute to the bay daily for work, so the early morning is all I’ve got. I beat the traffic, go for a ride or run, then hit the gym as they open. Stay Hard!
I will never wake up at 4-5AM, I usually go to sleep on those hours. I prefer the night training. Everyone should focus on their best times and way of life. Alan is right about that, that it doesn't matter. The fact is, if you do what is possible for you to go to the gym and lift, get stronger and have fun, you won. Thanks for inspiring us and giving us tons of knowledge Alan!
I'm the exact same dude, 5AM training for the past year although I do struggle with getting to bed early for my 8 hours of shut eye, how much sleep you getting?
Not going to lie, i've been doing this for a long time and even earlier before. It's neat to hear someone else who does it, and get someone else's perspective and tips of what they do! I like it cause I can get in, get out, without having to work over people. It's my early morning escape!
Another great video Alan, your videos are a wealth of information mate. The music in the background also deserves a mention, it's brilliant, I'd love to see your training playlist. Thanks for the great content mate, cheers.
I really like this video, that is so true. Until the Coronavirus spread here in Germany and we had restrictions, I was training after work. That wasn‘t easy, we have lots of projects and I am a voluteer firefighter, so my day was often ruled by long hours at work and appointments after work. For long years I did not make many progress because i switched or canceled the training on many days. With the restrictions I began to train more constantly again. I was able to train whenever I wanted, so i chose to train first in the morning. Starting with an novice plan, but three months ago I switched to a variation of the brazilian method. When the restrictions were loosened up, I stayed to this training at the morning and do it until today strict before driving to work, that is about at 5.00AM. That was one of the best decisions of my life! Adherence is much more easy and that changes my feeling. To start the day with a workout is really a manifestation.
If you fall asleep straight when you hit the pillow that's a sign of too few sleep in the recent time. There's enough studies that show 7-9 hours is essential
Optimal* "Essential" implies that an organism is incapable of maintaining life without it. Also, the 7-9 hours is true for most people, however, some people are able to maintain normal physiological processes on less sleep. It depends on the person. Keep in mind: studies =/= law. Studies only add support for a hypothesis/theory. If you can continuously support a habit (like getting 6 hours of sleep) without diminishing quality of life, then go for it. If you need 7-9 hours, go for it.

I get up at 3:00 and I'm at work at 5:30 to start painting the inside of industrial fuel tanks. But I don't know if I could workout at 5:00 everyday so big respect🔥🎸🔥
Also I really dig the direction of this channel.

Pretty similar to you.
I eat my breakfast at 6 am and I go to work ( wood cutter )
I eat lunch
6pm training
Dinner and sleep
That part at the end about hopefully the iron has taught you something and you’re stronger than you think and tougher than your demons spoke to me man
At night, Alan's soul drifts out of his body and watches over all of us 'tren untemmers' while we sleep.
Thank you Alan!
Needed this, have found 5/6am workout the time I'm most consistent.
Loved the video and the format Alan, your channel just gets better and better!
Loving this upload schedule!
There is soooo much practical knowledge and advice on this one video...great stuff Alan
Tool playing in the background 💪🏼
I like this post. I started working out in the morning at 5 am about three months ago. I love it. Im more focused and consistent. I put my headphones on and I just get it done. This video validated what Im experiencing. Good job untamed guy.
The fact that even someone like Alan is subject to the occasional temptation of procrastination gives me hope.
im more into bodybuilding but i like their videos. you seem more humble in the recent year. you are a very intelligent man Alan!
One of the reasons I click on these videos is because his form is so satisfying to watch
Alan is a very wise young person. Kudos to him and thanks for sharing your wisdom.
Make a collab video with Eric Bugenhagen!

and on opposite sides of the personality spectrum

@Liu Kang calling him a life coach shows you havent listened to him in depth or thoroughly.
@Liu Kang Yes
nice.
Hell yeah man that’s the real time to train, anytime is better then no time, but when you do for you first your able to serve your day and others better.
Everyone now comes to Alans gym at 5 am. All Alans reasons for going at 5am... gone.
Interesting. When I was in the Army we did reveille at 0600 in our PT clothes and went straight to running after.

Man, I watched so many of your videos during my last deployment but ever since I got back just haven't been on youtube as often. Forgot how awesome your channel is. Good part is, I got a whole bunch of videos to catch up on now. Keep at it and thank you!
Disappointed that a Pantera warm up didn’t have farmers WALK.
Nearly all of the experienced Natty guys are the best sources for quality information. Alan, your a legend!!
I love the gym smell in the morning.
This video is inspirational. I keep coming back to rewatch.
My local gym opens up at 6AM and I love it when I come in first, and the gym is completely empty. But sadly now my gym is closed :(
100% agreed.. reason why i choose to train 1st thing in the morning in my homegym.. loving it
I would pay extra for my membership if they played Tool. Hands down.
My kinda girl
Most gyms don’t allow white music Bc it’s racist

Ditto
I honestly needed to watch this video. This was a great wake up call and put things back into perspective for me as life has been normalizing and I'm back working the 9-5 grind and it's been so easy to make excuses for my training taking a backseat once again. You're the god damn man, Alan. Really appreciate the wise words.
I train at 1am to 3am but its not called early, its called late.
you are so awesome Alan. I love the advice you provide. Needed this exact info now as gyms are opening in ireland. thank you
Pantera at 5am. Secret training tip.
Joden C Pantera at anytime 🤘🏻
@@jaredw5059 I agree
Alan Thrall you are the best man. Great work ethic, great attitude and just all around great person you are..Appreciate all you do my man...Keep it up!
Alan: *shows footage of him training in a deliciously empty gym that he owns with tons of equipment*
People losing their gains because of COVID: *Why must you torture us so?*
ELLO WELCUM TO NATURAL EYE-PER-BRUH-PHY.
Unless you literally are in a hospital bed.... it ain't the virus that's keeping you from making progress
Your not listening. The gym isn’t a magical place. You could have been training 5 or ten K running time. You wouldn’t be so sloppy now.
No mirrors at competition.
Dont do compound lifts with mirrors, they fuck you up
@@stoycho9776 How so?

tldr its best to feel the movement without looking at yourself in the mirror, recording is good
@@stoycho9776 Very interesting! Thanks for the reply man.
10:07 dude the mothership has come to take you home
Well he was talking about visiting another planet right before...
The answer to when should I train is simple. Train when you want and what time is best for you.
I worked out at 5 AM once. And then I stopped. I think I'll just let Alan do it instead.
I commute to the bay daily for work, so the early morning is all I’ve got. I beat the traffic, go for a ride or run, then hit the gym as they open. Stay Hard!
I feel bad for the people living nearby, hearing heavy metal at 4 am LOL
Me too,and I'm a diehard metalhead! :P
I love the 5am workout. It’s my own uninterrupted time.I feel like I can concentrate a lot more
I truly appreciate the information you share in your videos Alan. There's always a good mix of great info and good humor.
I'm the exact same dude, 5AM training for the past year although I do struggle with getting to bed early for my 8 hours of shut eye, how much sleep you getting?
My bad commented to early haha...
Not going to lie, i've been doing this for a long time and even earlier before. It's neat to hear someone else who does it, and get someone else's perspective and tips of what they do! I like it cause I can get in, get out, without having to work over people. It's my early morning escape!
You know who else works out at 5 am...MY MOM!!!
Damm u must be some kind of muscle man.
Dill J WHOOOOOO!!!!!!!

Another great video Alan, your videos are a wealth of information mate. The music in the background also deserves a mention, it's brilliant, I'd love to see your training playlist. Thanks for the great content mate, cheers.
There's a 5 AM now?
Always has been
I just love the metal that plays in background
Working out at 5am?
So just before going to sleep?
Sounds like a good idea! I always sleep better after a hard working out session.
3am every morning. I love the quiet, no traffic, lights change and breakfast after. Great way to start the day
what time do you go to bed
@@JamesSmith-cm7sg around 8. 5 to 6 hours of sleep
