- Опубликовано: 19 апр 2022
- From April 28, 1988 - Cast members of the 1960s Batman TV Show reunite for interviews on FOX's The Late Show hosted by Ross Shafer. Adam West, Burt Ward, Frank Gorshin, Julie Newmar, Eartha Kitt, Cesar Romero, Yvonne Craig, and Alan Napier tell stories interspersed with clips from original Batman TV shows. Taped off FOX's New York affiliate WNYC Channel 5. I left in all the original commercials.
Rest Eternal Peace to all 1960 era Batman and characters of the show.
Burt Ward, Julie Newmar, Lee Meriwether, John Astin, and more than a few others are still with us. In fact, Burt reprised the role of Dick Grayson for the big "Crisis on Infinite Earths" storyline that ran through all of the CW DC superhero shows.

Hits hard to realize is has been 35 years since this reunion which in turn is remembering the show from 20 years prior
Adam West's voice...just brings back so many memories
Frank Gorshin and Cesar Romero were the best Riddler and Joker !
They both had awesome laughs.
Did you guys know that Cesar Romero was the grandson of the most important Cuban of all times? José Martí! Wow!
Riddler yes. Joker: not really. depends on what version of Joker you need. A ledger-esque joker would not have fitted in the campy 60's Batman. Nor would the darker Nicholson Joker from 1989.
@@Pieter-ns5nvNicholson’s laugh was good
Absolutely!!
Burgess Meredith was still part of the cast in the show. He should have been invited. Mr. Meredith is awwsome
Definitely would have been invited. Clearly, for whatever reason, he couldn’t make it.
He really hated his time as the Penguin, I'd always heard.
People from my past life..Love them all. They made my childhood happy beeing a kid.

☹💔
You forgot Burgess Meredith as the Penguin (November 16, 1907 - September 9, 1997)
Julie Newmar is still with us...
RIP Vincent Price ( May 27, 1911 - October 25, 1993) , aged 82
I believe Burt Ward, Julie Newmar and John Astin (who played The Riddler when Frank Gorshin was holding out for more money) are the only 3 original cast members still alive
Trivia: Frank Gorshin plays the director of the mental instiution were Bruce Willis is comitted in Terry Gilliams 12 Monkeys. And he did it really well.
He was also in the classic Star Trek episode Let That Be Your Last Battlefield, as Commissioner Bele in pursuit of a wanted fugitive, Loki from planet Sharon.
@@musicman201047 Yes, Im sure he did other things than 12 monkeys.
Brad Pit played Jeffrey right??
Frank was also a great impressionist
Apparently Alan Napier was annoyed that Ross Shafer only asked him few stupid question and cut him off. They should've let Alfred to tell his stories!
Yvonne backed that and said it was "overbooked". I have to agree, it seemed like they were trying to cram too much into 1 hour, they could have easily stretched this for 3 or 4 shows. I don't think Ross was trying to be rude to Mr. Napier they just ran out of time and unfortunately he had to cut him off.
Alfred did an amazing job of keeping the Bat Cave and the Wayne mansion spotless. Napier should have been how he managed that.
According to Wikipedia (fwiw), Alan had a stroke about a year before this and passed away about 4 months after this taping. RIP Alan.
Cesar Romero- The Great One!
Am I the only one getting a kick out of the commercials? And having flashbacks 🤣🤣
Hey Vern, before he did all the "Ernest goes to" movies and Beverly Hillbillies
Back when pizza hut made great pizzas... that's a life time ago now!!.😞🍕🍕
OMG....the original Batman TV show is one of my favorite programs of ALL time. never knew this existed. thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So indicative of the 60s counterculture, fashion, etc. This show was really hip, many of the shows went right over my head, watching it as a kid.
Frank Gorshin died of lung cancer 15 years after this show in 2005 at age 72, he was 5 years younger then Adam West who died in 2017 age 88. Alfred the Butler Alan Napier born in 1903 died Aug 8, 1988, 3 months after this show was taped.
The Riddler is one of my favorite Batman villains.
probably the most iconic villain of that show :)
@@davidlow862 They were all good. The main villains.
Remember, that part was also played by actor John Astin
My distant cousin. RIP
The Riddler is the best villain. Love reading his comics. The Riddle factory is really good. They worked it into the Gotham show
I loved this. Seeing most of my favourite cast members. This is TV Gold imo.
I just wish they'd had a little more time with Mr. Napier! He had recovered from a stroke, but was still so suave and funny.
He was a serious actor who had an incredible career, probably more than anyone on Batman except for Vincent Price.
@@thefantasyreview8709 They were both in _The Invisible Man Returns._ 🙂
Sadly, Alan passed away only 4 months after this aired. Always loved Alfred.
@@BarryH1701 I remember. Despite the comedic provenance of the show, so many of its cast's performances remain the definitive portrayals of their characters, and none more so than his.
One thing I hated back then when i had a VCR was recording commercials..now I wished I recorded them😄
Well well, thats like walking down Memory Lane, and there are sadly not many Cast-Members left today 35 Years later in 2023, but thank you very much for putting this Late-Show on. Greetings from Munich, Germany.
Sorry Jim Carrey. You were good in ''BATMAN PART 3'' but even in death, Frank Gorshin will ALWAYS have you beat.
It was really good to see most of the original cast of the 1960’s “Batman” series.A real nice trip down memory lane!…Holy Thowbacks!!!…Karl Schumaker 🎉
This was when most of the”Batman”cast(including Adam West) was still alive. Now,only 5 players (Burt Ward,Julie Newmar,Lee Meriwether,Joan Collins and John Astin)are the only ones that are still alive. But,when any cast from either a television series or film has the opportunity to reunite, it really is worth it.May this show’s cast always make memories…”Same Bat Time…Same Bat Channel”!!!…Karl Schumaker ❤️
There may not be a lot of the cast around anymore, but looking back at this,it’s probably the very best that anyone can do…”Holy Batcast reunion Batman!!!”…Karl Schumaker 🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇
@@karlschumaker If we're talking about featured players, maybe, but a lot of other people who worked on that show are still with us, like Linda Gaye Scott, who played Moth, and Judy Strangis, who was a groupie when Chad and Jeremy (the latter of whom is also still alive) guest starred on the show.
even in 1988 Burt Ward was still in great shape
now he hides behind dogs.
@@mst3kpimp He's 78. You'll be hiding behind dogs when you're 78, too.
Alas, he has since gained a lot of weight but still a great guy.
Bob Rivers’s Christmas parodies are the greatest! It’s my family tradition to play them every Christmas!
It’s amazing to hear their voices. They’re exactly the same from when the show aired back in the days! Uncanny. I could recognize each person with the character they played just by listening to them talk during that Late Night talk show.
Funny, I was just thinking the opposite for Burt. But that might be the highpitched microphones they used back then.
@@Pieter-ns5nv His voice has either not changed or he';s able to do his teen voice at the drop of a hat, as he proved in the two animated "Batman" movies he did with Adam and Julie, not to mention his cameo in "Crisis on Infinite Earths."
ruclips.net/video/207WP4bU4y0/видео.html
Frank is absolutely baked!
Frank is the best Riddler ever
Jim Carry war the second best Riddler
Just curious if you noticed how The Riddler and Joker are pretty similar in terms of their laugh
Don’t know if the commercials or the reunion are more nostalgic
I just bought the complete season and I’m glad I did. In really dark and gritty times in real life and entertainment, watching this is refreshing.
22 years since the show first aired when this reunion aired and now 35 years since this reunion aired😭
I had to look this up, but Alan Napier passed away only 4 months after this appearance. He had a stroke in 1987 and was hospitalized 2 months after this appearance. Always loved Alfred.
What a treat to see so many of them together! I actually wish Ross had let Frank finish his story... but let's face it, there's no upstaging Julie Newmar.
Victor Bueno as "King Tut" and Wally Cox as "Bookworm"...
didn't Roddy McDowall play the Bookworm? :)
@@furryfriend43 Yes, he did.
Yep!
Wally Cox voiced "Underdog."
Thanks for sharing this.
Wow, I never saw this reunion until now. Thank you for sharing. As a kid, I watched every Batman episode when the show was first run, from the very first episode until the last one.
Looking back at these clips from the series.. It really is amazing how well it was remastered for Blu Ray/DVD box sets!.. The quality is amazing..
Are you kidding? The audio here sucks.
@@MetFan37 He means how the show itself looks on DVD/Blu-ray.
@@cammy85 Exactly! Thank you :)
Adam West and Burt Ward never were able to escape being type cast as Batman and Robin. The most notable non-Batman related thing Adam did years after the show went off the air was voicing Family Guy character Mayor West. Burt basically went back to the private sector. If he has acting credits after the Batman series, I have no clue what they are other than him voicing Robin in two Batman animated movies released in the 2010s. That doesn't count because those movies are an extension of the live action series.
Batman and Robin
The Villains: The Riddler, Joker, Catwomen (Julie Newmar and Eartha Kitt)
Batwomen and Alfred
Only one year later and Michael Keaton would go on to say: "I'm Batman"
Wonderful to have them all together, although so strange watching back old shows now where every minute they seem to throw over to a commercial break and barely leaves any time for each guest to actually speak in the rush to keep wheeling on the next one between the long advertisements! Bit of a missed opportunity, but seeing it now, it's nice that there was a chance to get them all together in the same room. Thanks for the upload :)
the tv show host was quite a dick to the actors, especially Napier and Gorshin.
@@haroldfarthington7492 yes he was quite rude and dismissive, in his rush to cut to the next guest or commercial break. Karma is that I don't know the name of the host but I do know the names of each of the guests he was mocking or dismissing.
@@iangrant3615 how he treated alan napier was really disgusting. him making fun of gorshin and not letting him finish his story was sad. but atleast frank got a better interview on conan in the 90s
Frank suffered from COPD (emphysema) and died from lung cancer and pneumonia in 2005. The COPD is pretty evident during this appearance. And he was still smoking. :(
I saw Frank in Vegas, he put on a great show. Julie's restaurant on Fairfax was Eata Pita and the food was wonderful. Julie would be there every Sunday. My pals and I would show up every week and she'd mingle with the customers. She was lovely.
Had the pleasure of meeting both Adam West and Frank Gorshin back in the late 90s. Loved seeing them all together, but they should have just had them all come out at once at the beginning and share stories. I wish they could have gotten Burgess Meredith on there too, kind of disappointed that there was no mention of him. I also didn't like the way he would cut them off mid story.
Thank you for keeping the commercials, so awesome to see them
you must be one that's why you like kfc
I hope you are being sarcastic. This whole thing could have been wrapped up in 10 minutes if not for the commercials. Which in itself is why this was a shit show. Could have had each person walk on, shake hands and walk off stage right for the amount of time they were given. Shy of the singing cat woman act. Must've paid the show some $ to let that suck up 5 minutes.
Those commercials can also help estimate the date of a tv show. The KFC commercial at 53:51 shows a date May 22, 1988.
I was lucky in 2016 to have met Adam & Burt at FanExpo in Toronto. RIP Adam "Mayor" West 🙏🕊🦇
Am I the only one who enjoyed the commercials too?
Before going to school I would watch Batman and Robin while eating my Captain Crunch.
My favorite superhero was the GREEN LANTERN. In fact anyone from my generation will definitely remember the underoos and I of course had the Green Lantern.
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You sooooo much for this video and transporting ALL of us back in time to our childhood. 🥣 🙏 📺
Batman tv show makes remember good times , and i really enjoy this guys
seeing the 80's commercials took me back to when I was 19,
Frank Gorshin as the Riddler was the best !!!!!!
Jim Carry was the second best Riddler
What a great cast. Those tv commercials can also help at times to estimate the date or the year of a tv show. 53:51 shows a good through date of May 22, 1988.
man the audio needs to be scrubbed and cleaned ouch that screech is not cool
Best JOKER laugh !😁👍🏻
11 bucks for a bucket of chicken and sides those were the days. Every place is so greedy now
such a great show. And obviously full of love behind the scenes
This brings back so many good memories when i was young ,i loved the series,i have the episodes and movie on dvd
Loved it as man and boy timeless😊
Yvonne Craig was such a babe❤
I loved Batman…..a great show. I watched it every week.
Julie Newmar steals the show, but great to see most of the cast of that great show!
That’s because she has the sweetest nectar straight from her honey hole
Julie would steal any show!
I had a black cat named Eartha Kitty.
The Batman show is from the 60s, but I watched it as a kid in the 80s. Probably around the time this reunion took place.
I love the commercials from the 1980s lol
It would have been fun if they had also had the third Catwoman actress from the TV movie episode of the series and Burgess Meredith and Cesar Romero. Also would have been fun to see the actors that played Commissioner Gordon, Chief O'Hara, Batgirl, Alfred and Robin (dick graceson's) aunt. The whole principal cast reunite would have been great fun! But this was great too!!
Neil Hamilton (who played Commissioner Gordon) passed away in 1984 and Stafford Repp (Chief O'Hara) died in 1973
They only did this because the Tim Burton BATMAN movie with Michael Keaton was premiering the next year.
@@bufnyfan1 aww rip guys.
Batgirl and Alfred were there.... You didn't see them?.......
It's so sad Alan Napier passed that year.
Those were the good old day's the 1960's. I loved that era.
Great post!
Great show I still watch it and I bought the box set that includes the movie and signed script by Adam West he was on an infomercial selling it but not long after about a year or so past away. I'm sorry only Burt Ward and John Astin And Julie Newmar are still with us
I think Dame Joan Collins is still around.
JULIE NEWMAR is the last female villain alive from the original series, 90-years old. Burt Ward is still alive today at 79.
The host cut of Alan Napier in the middle of his story, which was really rude and annoyed Napier (Napier had previously had a stroke so his speech may have been a bit slow). Out of all these guys, Napier was the one who was a serious Movie actor, and he had starred in some very famous movies from the 1930s to the 1960s.
Robin always figured out the riddles.😊
Burt went into real estate and business. He also has a pet food product line.
I remember this like it was yesterday. I was 8 yrs old and fell in love with the OG Batman show! Wonder Woman will always be the BEST, but they can have 2nd place lol
The Riddler was my favorite villain back then.
Long videoª!!!! But I enjoyed every minute of it.
What I remember the most about this was everyone but the host cringing at the way Alan was brought out and the way the questions were asked of him.
This is priceless!!
In 1967 the Batmobile was on tour in west Phoenix at the Maryvale Mall; I got to sit in it! I was 6 years old and Always Sat Too Close!
Loved that phone.Still Do!
Poor Frank!
Needs more commercials.
I grew up during the 1960's watching Batman as a child.. Frank Gorshin's entrance here - Priceless !!! LOL ! 🤖 ? FYI, Alfred ROCKS ! 🎸🎸
Greatest moment is meeting Adam West at a con in Dallas, tx.
Ross Shafer lacked some important interviewing skills. He kept cutting off his guests and the audience just wanted to hear them talk. I'm sure he was just following cues from producers, but it was not a classy move for a variety show host. The Batman cast deserved a better interview. That said, this brought back some great memories... and the commercials made me smile.
"Loved that show!"
Hollywood will never find actors better than the actors on the TV show to play the characters.
Julie Newmar was STUNNING doing that dance ❤❤
According to the description, it’s WNYW-TV (channel 5), not WNYC-TV. WNYC-TV was on channel 31 back in the day.
Wow the commercials
Ertha Kitt was so hot! Its funny, the thing i remember most, besides her purring, is her dinging the song Santa Baby. One my favorite Christmas songs, her verdion is by far the best, no taking anything from The Material Girl.
Those adverts were amazing, ha ha ha ha!
HOLY early bird pillow feathers. I loved Batman & Robin on TV
Amazing how much Letterman 'borrowed' in order to sound like Ross Shafer.
1988 saw alot of Superman, too. It was the 50th anniversary of Superman's 1st comic-book magazine appearance.
Man, I haven't heard the name A&S in years. Most locations became Macys after the company sold.
The Ads are hilarious!
I miss the 80s
Childhood memories 😊
Ironic with him saying that he has writers who aren't on strike when there's a literal strike happening in Hollywood right now lol
I love how the video is cropped just on her. I wish every episode was like that. Sorry Dave😂
I see a lot of Ernest T. Bass in Gorshin's depiction of The Riddler
Julie Newmar is just divine ❤
