I just tried to duplicate your results, with SRA-brand, TT-21G Tip Tinning Paste, on a Sainsmart TS100 -type, digitally adjustable soldering pencil, that was properly calibrated. I found that a setting of 350C was way too hot, so that the waxy solid between the Tin particles, formed a defective residue on the tip. In the end, only a small region near the very point of the tip was tinned, the rest of my tip presumably phosphatized, so that I had no advantage over what I had before, which was, a tip-end silvered with the last-used solder, and the rest of the heating shaft clean. 😥 But, I was able to remove the dark-gray phosphate with a mere wire brush, meaning that only minor permanent damage happened to the tip-unit. 😀 After re-examining everything, I now conclude, that although the soldering pencil I named can be set to temperatures from 100C to 400C, it's not suitable for full use over that temperature range. And I think I've learned, that the TT-21G Tip-Tinning Paste is meant to be compatible, with high-temperature -type 'Silver-Sod' (which the pencil is not).
The one and only thing that I don't have! And I have some flight controllers to bring back to life! I NEED it!
