    Just saw it at Winn Dixie, it’s awesome! I saw you driving it earlier and it reminded me of the Mighty Car Mods WRX Ute.

    I had a rear end on my vw mk6 2014 jetta tdi, i would love to rebuild it to a ute, my first car bought 8 years ago and today i had someone hit my rear and it's pretty nasty to see but yeah the insurance thought is best to write it off, I'm thinking of a little modding, is there a kit for the mk6's

    • @hesty32
      @hesty32  Год назад +1

      Unfortunately no but the MK5 kit is very close and couple guys have modified it to fit on their MK 6s. But it does take some extra fabrication

    Really nice work but do yourself a favor and buy some "cleco's" and a pair of cleco pliers. It will add ease and accuracy to your work. It's really a thing for metal smiths/fabricators.

    • @hestermannmotorwerks
      @hestermannmotorwerks Год назад

      I find the the clecos don’t really help in this kit. I use them a lot in other metal fabrication and repair

  • @mrjuan74

    This is awesome! Once you built them do you sell? Where can I buy one? I don’t have the time to actually built one myself. I have an 82 VW caddy so I have a passion for this little cars!

    • @hesty32
      @hesty32  2 года назад +1

      The caddys are what brought me to these! Yes I do build and sell them but most of my builds are directly for a customers. Depends on a lot of things but it is usually about $6000 not including final paint. You can find built ones for sale every now and then. I just finished up a MK4 VR6 turbo that will be for sale pretty soon

    Nice build, but i noticed you left the spare tire in place, how do you get to that spare tire in case of a flat??I'm just wondering

    • @hesty32
      @hesty32  2 года назад

      as per the kit, you unbolt the floor to get to the spare. If you watch the video though, you will notice that I put a hinged bedfloor and some lockable latches in. Make a great storage area for hinge pin, tie downs, all that kind of stuff

    Two questions:
    What is the load capacity once assembled?
    Is the tailgate easily removable once installed?

    • @hestermannmotorwerks
      @hestermannmotorwerks 10 месяцев назад +1

      The capacity is same as the original car because the suspension/tires wheels brakes are the same. You lose about 150 lbs doing the kit so you could consider that an additional capacity in payload and gross. tailgate removes as easily an any pickup. Hinges and support cable are from Ford ranger so it removes the same as a Ford Ranger tail gate

    • @ethanmeatzie6179
      @ethanmeatzie6179 10 месяцев назад

      Are the bed length and width the same as a Ranger as well, or only the tailgate and its hardware?

    • @hesty32
      @hesty32  10 месяцев назад

      @@ethanmeatzie6179 the bed dimensions are different. Width is just shy of 50 inches at the rails. Can’t remember for sure but I think length is 70 inches

  • @carlosmartoral6268
    @carlosmartoral6268 3 года назад

    What is the length of the bed and will there be any leaks at the seams/ joints?

    • @hesty32
      @hesty32  3 года назад

      the bed is 6 feet long. A 4x8 sheet will fit on top of the wheel wells, and sit on top of the tailgate. Works pretty well. The floor of the bed drains down to the cavity below and out through the drains there. You do have to seal the front bed wall well to ensure it doesn't leak into the cab.

    How long did it take to do? Still have spare access?

    • @hesty32
      @hesty32  3 года назад +2

      I did a custom bed floor with a hinge and two latches so instead of having to unscrew 25 bolts, you just pop the two latches. Worked out pretty well. Probably have 120 hours in it but that includes a custom hitch, the bed floor, airlift helper springs and compressor and a few other goodies.

  • @nicknicolaus
    @nicknicolaus 3 года назад +1

    How do you access the spare?

    • @hesty32
      @hesty32  3 года назад

      Bed floor is hinged, pop the latches, lift the floor and there it is.

    • @hestermannmotorwerks

      Most of it is Sikaflex construction sealant but I also used tiger seal seam sealer, 3m seam sealer and urethane window adhesive in some spots
