I appreciate you actually taking a stance and saying it's bad, not only because I agree but because too often people fall back on, "but it's all your own opinion." No, sometimes it's bad.

For those who just know there's always something behind this stuff, the red colour theme was a dead giveaway already but if the MON-arch control butterfly wasn't enough stitch two of the paintings on horizontal mirroring where butterfly remains at the extremes and say hi to their beloved ruler...

I think King Charles was trying to get out of the way of the falling curtain, not reacting to what the portrait looked liked-which was said he saw four times before the official unveiling-because those things can be heavy.

When I zoomed the potrait, I realize the pyramid symbol, in gold, on the ceiling. That, combined with the potrait of the King who painted all red like a demon lord.
I mean, it's hard not to think all of those conspiracy theories when I look at it.

The face looks dirty and like it's been photoshopped in. His oversized hands give a Game of Thrones white walker Night King vibes. And the red background gives the impressthe artist got tired of the job and just went ahh bugger it and splashed a shitload of red to save time trying to fill in a detailed believable background. A very strange painting

Gratuitous Historical Contextualization > Any Substantial Analysis; this video is yapping for yapping's sake.
If you don't understand the piece or its political context, just say that. The decision on the part of this content creator to quickly and unceremoniously present the 'possibility' of subversion instead of providing a historically contextualized analysis of what is one of the most overtly, cuttingly, subversive pieces of portraiture in pop-history, is genuinely baffling.
The artist had a clear vision and he knew exactly what message he wanted to send. Everything from the fleshy, blood-pink wash, to the ghastly impression of the king's likeness; the stylization of the butterfly, the choice of attire, the smarmy smirk, all these choices were made with great intention and are exemplary displays of the artist's dedication to his purpose. This portrait is stunning, maybe not in the eyes of the savage rulers who commissioned it or to those who have stayed ignorant to their genocides, but certainly to any who have realized their cruelty.
Those dusty degrees wont do anything for your credability when this is the quality of content you create. All the money and time you poured into your education and and the best you can do is "i don't like it"? Maybe instead of getting a degree in art history, you should've taken a beginners course in critical thinking.
Anyways, I saw a comment that said this painting would come to be known as 'The Last Monarch,' someday. They ate.

It is more pink than red. Also in person the painting is translucent. There is light to it but, the overall effect comes on as red.

I think it's ugly and I'm not afraid to say that it's ugly. Yes the face looks like King Charles, but the rest of it is just plain weird! It's too bad that he isn't allowed to comment publicly about what he really thinks. I'm sure he thought it was pretty ugly too based on his body language when he unveiled it.

The whole point of art is to get a reaction from people. Using different shades of red to paint his uniform and body is the real part of the art. Imagine not using any other color to paint a portrait other than the face.
