22 years later I still think about and play Final Fantasy X. It's a plain masterpiece, nothing more to say. Even as a kid back then, seeing that Auron was dead, made me cry. What a plot twist.
There really was nothing like Final Fantasy back in the day. They were at the forefront of graphics and videogame music at the time. You knew when an FF game was released that you were going to get quality and were in for an experience unlike any other. Truly masters at the time

Am I the only one seeing some existential esoteric symbolism here? This scene always makes me think about my place in this reality, where I came from, and where I am going.
So iconic now and totally mind blowing in 2001. At the time you were thinking that this was true greatness from Square and that their talent was endless. Unfortunately they were on the bring of collapsing and eventually did two years later when they were absorbed by Enix.
Seeing this scene for first time was the first time I ever got scared for game characters. Sin sucking up and destroying everything to the point there was no where left to run was wild.
This is how you do foreshadowing well. This is the first scene where the player gets the sense of how nuts this game is going to get. But it also does two additional things: 1) sets up the future A plot and lays some subtle crumbs for Auron's connection to Sin and Tidus's truth, and 2) it makes the second playthrough of the game more interesting cos you realise the stuff that is revealed later in the game was already alluded to early on. Finally, the music scales upward both in pitch and jazziness. I always feel like this is the moment when I've become fully transported into the world.
This line means to much to me, as someone looking to go into the field of psychology and learning about how the mind "tells itself a story," how Zanarkand was just a dream (and the psychology of dream analysis/people waking up from dreams being analogous to Tidus waking up to the "real" Spira. Reflecting back on it from childhood, I don't think I really understood how powerful some of the ideas in FFX could be to inspire real life goals.
Wow tidus and auron are hella heavy. They're staying in place as buildings are being sucked around them lol 🤦♂️. Best game I ever played though. A true masterpiece
Ps2 greatest system ever. I feel conpanies and developers rushed put too many games for the ps2 its library was massive compared to ps3/ps4. They could of released some of the greats on later consoles with better effects and immersion but still i dont regret one bit experiencing them at the time especially in my teens years
Actually, the lore states that Tidus never actually lived in Zanarkand. There are two different Zanarkands. There's the real Zanarkand, and then there's the dream Zanarkand. Tidus, his mother, and Jecht are all citizens of the dream and never actually existed in history. This is why Tidus disappears at the end, because the dream ends. We know that the dream Zanarkand exists on the ocean, near the Baaj Temple. Only Sin knows where it is, since Sin is Yu Yevon. Tidus didn't actually travel 1,000 years through time. He probably traveled a few hours and was left at the Baaj Temple.
@@brandonprows then that would mean sin destroyed dream zanarkand again and again since everyone in real zanarkand say that sin destroyed the city zanarkand 1,000 years ago. I know it's a dream but why would jecht invade a dream to pull a made up being to destroy him and repeat the process?
@@jrno93 I don't know where you are getting the idea that Sin has destroyed Dream Zanarkand before. The dream was created by Yu Yevon in order to preserve Zanarkand. The only reason it was destroyed was because Jecht, controlling Sin, went to dream Zanarkand to pick up Tidus. Sin reacts to machina, so when it saw all the machina, Yu Yevon unknowingly destroyed his original creation.
