@@SpaceShip933ah sorry 😬 I unfortunately do not remember the exact type of fabric, but it was definitely a non-stretch fabric with a checker pattern. Any non-stretch fabric will work for this dress.
Thank you for this great tutorial! My mother gave me Pima cotton sheets that she doesn’t use anymore, and I wanted to make a simple, casual dress like this. This is helpful for making a pattern that I can reuse. Thank you!
Thank you! When you are done please share the finished dress with me on Instagram @its.rikke. I’d love to see it☺️ also, let me know if you have any questions, and I’ll be sure to help.
It is possible if you use stretchy fabric instead or put in a zipper maybe in the side seam. After drawing the line from the armhole to the bottom of the dress find the place on the line where the waist would go, probably 3-5 inches from the armhole and then take it in depending on how tight you want it. And draw a new line that curves like a body around the waist.
Thank you for this excellent and simple to follow video! It's my go-to model for practicing sewing. It's so simple yet wearable and you explain everything. My question is, can you use viscose (rayon) for this dress? And can I add pockets without weighing it down? Ty!
Thank you 😊 sure you can use viscose and add pockets. But if the fabric is lightweight I am not sure you can put stuff in the pockets as it will pull too much on the dress for it to look good. But you can try 😅
Very helpful. going to try this. For the armhole… what If I want my armhole a little more cut-in than the 1/2” mark given? How much more do I mark in and draw the armhole curve?
Thank you ☺️ I am not sure I understand what you wish to achieve. You can make the line longer, which will make the armhole smaller, or you can make it shorter to make it bigger. However better ways to do this would be to change the position of the line that is drawn 1” above the bust line. So, if you draw 2 inches above the bust line it will make the armhole smaller, and if you draw it on the bust line it will make the armhole bigger. Hope that helps, if not let me know 😁
If you want to show more of your back, I would lower the neckline in the back 😊 Or I would make the straps more narrow, so they don’t go all the way out to the shoulders. But, if you have an idea of what to do with armhole curve you can always try it out in cheap fabric first to see if it works. Hope that helps, even though I still feel I misunderstand 😅
So Im pretty confused on the neckline. Can you tell me, like Im in kindergarten, how to cut it and sew it again? I’ve watched the video several times and I still can’t figure it out.
I can try 😁 You should basically just make a thin strip of around 1-2 inches that has the exact same shape as the neckline of the dress. So when the dress pattern is laying flat, you can draw around (copy) the neckline and then draw that same line 1 inch underneath, so you get that neckline shape in what is called neckline facing. And once you have that you can sew it on right sides together and then turn it over and then topstitch it down. I hope that helps, otherwise let me know any specific questions. It might be easier to explain then 😊
Hi! I am a total beginner and have been following along with this tutorial. I'm finding it very helpful so far! I've created the dress pattern and went to the fabric store this morning to pick out a nice lightweight linen fabric. I got home with it and pulled it out of the bag, only to realize it's quite sheer when light passes through it. I didn't notice this at all when it was on the bolt at the store. I'm thinking I will need to add a lining to the dress. Any tips for how I can do that and salvage the fabric purchase I made this morning?
Great to hear it 😊 and sure, there are two things you can do in terms of adding lining. I found this tutorial on how to add lining to a sleeveless shirt, which is the exact same way you would add lining to this dress. Just make the lining an inch or two shorter than the actual fabric, and hem the lining before attaching it. m.ruclips.net/video/6CS4ckhqT0E/видео.html&vl=en However, if that’s too complicated, you could just cut out lining pieces the same size as the main dress pattern, skip the facing pattern piece, and use the lining instead following the same steps. Only difference would be to baste around the armhole to make the lining and main fabric into “one” fabric. Then the rest of the dress can be completed the same way as in the video. Just make sure when sewing the layers together that they lay flat and are the exact same size. Those would be my suggestions 😊 let me know if you have further questions!
@@Itsrikke Hi again! I decided it would be best for me to keep things simple since this is my first garment project, so I went back to the store to get a different fabric for this dress. I've gotten to the step where you fold in and sew the arm holes, but I'm not sure how to get the fabric to fold in nicely without clipping the seam allowance. Did you clip yours?
I understand ☺️ I did not clip mine, but I don’t see a problem in doing so. Also, I don’t know what your seam allowance is, but if it’s on the wider side, this could be why it is difficult. You could try turning in a smaller amount of fabric.
@@Itsrikke That makes sense! I will try it again with a smaller seam allowance, and if it's still too unruly for me, I'll try clipping. Thanks again for all of your help! 😊
For me I tend to overmeasure my shoulder width, so it will probably be fine to just make the shoulder width smaller. Otherwise extend the bust line and shorten the shoulder width by the same amount to compensate in both places 😊
Hey, can I get your own measurements and your height coz I will just write in my assessment in Fashion. Thank you I hope you see this I just really need it
Sure 😊 I’ll give them in centimeters, I hope you can convert yourself if necessary. Height: 183 cm Bust: 90 cm Waist: 75 cm Hips: 105 cm Do you need more?
My local fabric store mostly, but sometimes from European online fabric stores as well as AliExpress (mostly for special kinds of fabric that I cannot find online or in my country) 😊
Also what do you mean with the 12 inch bottom width? Is that the very bottom edge? And if so by width do you mean that the circumference would come to be 24 inches?
They won’t necessarily change, but instead of making a straight line between shoulder and neck, it should be more rounded. You might want to raise the point on the middle to make it less deep. But make a mock up and see if you like it 😊 12 inches is a 4th of the circumference, so the circumference will be 48” in total. Hope that helps 😁
Never sewn before and I cut the pattern into the fabric only to realize I lined it backwards so the neck is the armhole 😭 I'll have to just seam it down the back and the front I guess

Finally a good sewing tutorial with A voice! I like to hear what you're doing thx u!! 😄
Thank you 😄
Thank you. Such a beautiful dress and great tutorial. I made a dress following your tutorial, I love it and will be making another for work.
Lovely 🥰 thanks for the kind words
Thank you for this great tutorial. I've been wanting to make a dress, but it seemed intimidating. You make it seem so much easier!
Give it a try ☺️I’m sure it will turn out great!

like it VERY much. Gorgeous. Though I would make the neck-line roundish, not V-ish. Would that be a problem?? Think rather not??
Nope, it won’t be a problem 😊 same methods apply. Good luck!

It would be really handy if we could know whether you are working with woven or knit fabrics.
For this dress I was using woven fabric but knit will work as well 😊
Lovely dress! Is there no front or back, just put it on?
That’s correct 😁 unless you change the front or back neckline, it is just to put it on.

@@Itsrikkeand is this circumference the hip circumference or the bust circumference?
Thank you for the tutorial.
The hip circumference 😊 you’re welcome!
Beautiful dress. But the armhole is a bit bigger. Just wondering how to make it a smaller.
You can make it smaller by starting the armhole curve higher above the bust line 😊
Wish the video instructions were slower and little more clearer. Already manage to cut it on a paper.
Never sewn before and I cut the pattern into the fabric only to realize I lined it backwards so the neck is the armhole 😭 I'll have to just seam it down the back and the front I guess

Hi, how tall are you please
Around 183 cm (6 feet) 😊
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
How much seam allowance did you take for the pattern pieces and the facing?
I usually do 1 cm 😊
