Learn French | 10 common French words used in Marseille and the South of France

  • Hey everyone, in this video, I share 10 common French words used almost exclusively in Marseille and/or Provence. Le parler marseille refers to words used historically by the people of Marseille. I hope you enjoy and please be sure to like this video and subscribe!
    1. Péguer = coller ; to stick "ça pégue !"
    2. Moulon de = beaucoup de; a lot of "il y a un moulon de gens"
    3. Maronner = râler, rouspéter; to sulk, be upset "arrête de maronner comme ça !"
    4. Emboucaner = 1. puer; to smell 2. chercher la bagarre; to look for trouble with someone 1. "tu m'emboucanes avec ton fromage là !" 2. "il m'a emboucané 'çui là !"
    5. Dégun = personne; nobody/no one "il n'y a dégun ici !"
    6. Fada / fadade = une personne folle ; a crazy person eg. "il est fada 'çui' là !"
    7. Peuchère = le pauvre; poor thing (can be used sincerely and sarcastically) "ô peuchère, je suis vraiment désolé"
    8. (le) cagnard = le soleil; the sun; used especially in the phrase "en plein cagnard" meaning in the sun "on était en plein cagnard toute la journée"
    9. Gonfler = literally means to pump something up with air; in Marseille, it can be used to show irritation eg. "il me gonfle" meaning "he is really annoying me"
    10. ça va - used alternatively in Marseille/Southeast of France to confirm "d'accord" / "OK"
