I honestly shed a tear or two for a time I left behind without much notice or fuss. Here I sit frail of body with only the memories of a child out of time and place to console me. Never will my legs carry me to the great heights, nor the water of the deep tarns will I swim again, but I did once, time and time again. All my children born here and all my kin rest here, there was no reason to go anywhere else. My last hurrah was several years ago on a Triumph motorcycle and even though the changes had taken their toll, the beauty and memories still stood their time.
I must go back one more time. Hawkshead/Newby Bridge et al. It's been a long, long time. Being the Issue of a Barrow lass ( is Marsh Street still there?) .... it's in the DNA. Lancashire ~ God's own County
@WeirdWackyWonderfool: According to the FORL website: "In 1974 the Government at that time stated that the "new counties" were administrative areas only and that the boundaries of traditional counties such as Lancashire had not been changed. Unfortunately, the media refer to these administrative areas all too frequently and ignore the fact that places such as Barrow-in-Furness, Liverpool, Manchester, Warrington, etc. are still in Lancashire." From the "Friends of Real Lancashire" (FORL) website.
